I'm not the best at serious posts, but that article up there reminded me of how important it is that people like you stand up for us. So hold on while I try to get this out of my mushy end-of-work-day brain.

We could fight this fight ourselves for decades trying to reach the equal laws, gender affirming trans healthcare that doesn't have a 2-5+ soul-eating years of waiting time, medical care with equal knowledge of lgbtqia+ bodies, and, what is often forgotten, inclusion in the little everyday areas of life like our way of speaking or things being set up or designed with the existence of queer people in mind.

But you joining in could get us there so much faster.

The power you have as a hetero cis person is that you set the standard for what is seen as the average way of treating us among other hetero cis people. You have been given the power of deciding what's "normal" and I'm begging you to use it.

Richard Green is a great example of to what extent your actions can help our situation, and smaller ways of support still add up to a great impact on society, and could make the days of the queer people you interact with.

Cuz like, no way she would go out of her way to make it THIS bad!? It's almost like because she set up this album as being pure "tortured poetry" she HAD to rely on every tried heartbroken victim trope and Taylorism platitude that she could wrangle. But the result is BEYOND childish and fails to deliver in every regard. It honestly is a very difficult listen, not because it tugs at the heart too much, but because the lyrics are just plain bad and her mediocre voice doesn't make it any better

Yet her audience eats it up because they believe her when she says it's poetry and full of hidden meaning but really it's because every time they hear it they cosplay as her which makes her specific type of torture (and a few universal 1 liners) so relatable to them and their hurt. But like, it's so juvenile. Like she would be the type to rhyme jumprope with misanthrope, but in her hands linking those 2 words in a stanza is straining and the build up is half assed/non existent

It's a vain passion project being sold as an authentic peak into her soul. Destined to sell but requires mass marketing to reach everyone everywhere. A sick joke tbh

i think part of the problem is that taylor swift is running out of taylor-isms and has to either keep inventing new ones or become a good writer so all of the ones that actually worked have already been taken and she's just digging the stupid hole deeper. like all of her writing is Like That to a degree but at least on her very early albums she had that veneer of cutesy country-isms and youth to back them up and on 1989 they actually worked (i actually like a fair bit of that album, i think it's her best by far, and i will also go to bat for seven as an Actually Good Song, Taylor-isms Be Damned this isn't coming from a place of pure haterism as much as i like to posture) but it's getting to the point where it's just like okay are you doing this on purpose. to be evil. because it seems like they're engulfing her writing to the point where it almost feels like engagement bait like these aren't lyrics this is Poasting (TM)

the first day of my hand drafting class in my senior year of college, after the prof taught us how to frame up on the drafting table and went over how to use the tools we'd bought, he had us all take our pencils and make a mark on the top right corner of the vellum. then he walked us through the setup steps - the border, the title block, etc.

and he told us to erase the mark.

when someone - rosie, i think - asked what the mark was for he smiled.

"if you give a novice student an expensive, blank piece of paper, they panic. they think if i start using that i will ruin it. so the first thing i want all of you to do, any time you stare at a blank piece of paper, is to ruin it a little and take the pressure off yourself. pencil erases. anxiety has to be managed."

i hated that man for a myriad of reasons, but that was some of the best advice i've ever been given.
