Thinking a lot about the ethics of the gaiman article.. I've seen some people say the way it's written is too much while others say the level of detail is necessary; for me I'm somewhere in between but am firmly against the inclusion of those photos of S.P. there is this very urgent want to be capital-s 'Seen' in a way that hits differently in your early 20s and doesn't have the life experience to temper it, and being homeless and having suffered rape, abuse, torture only makes the urgency worse, so I understand why she took selfies and I understand why she offered them up for publication in the piece; she was an adult when it happened and is an adult now so it's really not my business that she came to that decision and I don't get to have an opinion on it- but I Do get to be judgemental of the magazine for accepting the photos. And I am.
#I have no idea if she'll regret offering them later in life (hopefully she won't and it'll be fine!)#but imo the opportunity for her to submit them shouldn't have even been offered in the first place#(thank god they didn't include photos of his kid which is the other piece of journalism ethics I really disliked)#anyway it's been legit heartening to see so many people including fans take it seriously and also dismiss his statement#this really COULD be a career-ender#ngaiman
