please please PLEASE can people stop making the distinction "generative AI is bad, analytical AI is fine and good"

the same analytical AI that is being used to identify cancer cells or interpret handwriting or whatever entirely reasonable use you want to bring up is ALSO being used to try to identify protestors in surveillance footage or to make robotic weapons platforms or to deny insurance claims or job applicants or whatever

it is never about the technology itself! it is always about the conditions that allow someone to unilaterally abuse that technology. you will never find the distinction between things that are fine and good and things that are ontologically evil, PLEASE stop trying

#generative AI systems of many kinds have the potential to advance our understanding important things about intelligence and communication #but if we DID have “general AI” tomorrow (lol) then this would be objectively horrible because the people in power would enslave it #just like they already constantly do or try to do with the intelligent beings they already have power over!#and I really would like a world where if that DID happen then everyone would go “you shouldn't be permitted to enslave anyone??”#not “ugh I hate those soulless robots that are ruining everything”
