Having been in the Vo/tron fandom from very shortly after S1 first aired and having stayed at least adjacent to it for the whole long slog up to present day is a curse for many reasons but also because it means most every time I see people try to explain the origin of the anti movement I have to cringe at all the things they are confidently getting wrong

And I’m not going to say anything, I did not save receipts or document this whole stupid phenomenon because it gave me a headache then and it gives me a headache now and I am simply not interested in being your discourse historian

But I am just standing in a corner like

#personal #I witnessed this whole shitshow close up #I was there for ‘sha/ad1ns don’t reblog’ the grandfather of the dni lists #I remember the fucking needle cookies good christ #I don’t think understanding how it Technically Started matters all that much compared to understanding why it’s persisted #which is a lot more to do with wider spread purity culture and consumerist activism #and other societal trends #and truly has nothing to do with Vo/tron Specifically anymore #because like. look. say whatever the fuck you want about that show truly #but if it hadn’t been vo/tron it WOULD have been something else #part of this story is that Star Wars was having a similar parallel ship war discourse with the ethics of shipping rey/o #vo/tron did not have some unique superpower to melt the internet’s collective brain #it’s not WHY this happened it was just the proximate catalyst
