✦- INFO -✦ The boys all want to take advantage of Nanno, and the girls are jealous and cruel. They try to destroy her but Nanno always has the upper hand.

»»--⍟--«« Y/n's POV

I wake up, the sunlight from the window shining on my face as I'm laying on a bed I assume. I yawned, I looked around the room I'm in.

It seems like I'm in my bedroom? I lift the blanket off of me, and well I'm just wearing normal clothes that you would wear to bed.

I sit upright on my bed and then a headache came out of nowhere, what did I even do last night? Alcohol? Drugs?-

Oh wait...

Okay, I remember now, it wasn't drugs but it definitely felt like ecstasy, I get out of bed, went to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

After I'm done, I notice a piece of paper on my dresser, and I pick it up, and it reads:

I made breakfast for you before I did, I hoped you enjoyed it.

The handwriting looks like Nanno's handwriting, and there's a N at the bottom so I guess it is Nanno.

Honestly, that was kind of sweet of her, and the ink is red. I guess she used a red ball pen? But why red?

Oh yeah because demons like red and- okay yeah I get it.

I went downstairs, and saw no one in sight. Did my parents go to work early? Well, I guess I'll just eat the breakfast Nanno made for me.

I walk into the kitchen and saw a white plate with tissues covering what's on the plate.

Some of the oil was absorbed by the tissue, I take off them and it revealed-well it's just a basic egg and rice.

But hey, she did cook it for me before she left so that means she cares for me 💞.

Okay, I have to eat now since I'm basically home alone —by myself, in this house— with no one here.

Yeah, sounds about right. I get a spoon and began eating the egg and rice (on the table where you usually eat at, and not on the kitchen counter obviously.)

I eat it quite quick as if I haven't eaten in so long, and soon enough I finish it, and then I walked back to the kitchen with the dirty plate and spoon in hand, before putting them in the sink.

I'll wash them later, after all-I need to go to a new school.

As much as I hate school, there's no way I'm going back to the old one-if it's still going to be open.

All of us have heard countless apologies in this beautiful world.

If we make a mistake, we apologize.

And yet, we still make more mistakes.

Perhaps, our apology is actually meant for our next mistake.

I walked around in the hallways, and I could see jealous or "flirty" glares and stares from the students that were in the hallways and I could hear whispers and gossip about me even though I just joined, I didn't mind because this was gonna start my plan.

I eventually reached my classroom and took a deep breath before getting inside, the teacher greets me as usual and tells me to introduce myself to the class, I put a fake smile on my face before doing it.

' CLASSROOM B '

" Hello, I'm Nanno, I hope we can get along. " I happily spoke, the teacher points to my seat next to two people named Taew and I-Tim, they raised their hand so I could know who they were, and I slowly walked there, I put my bag on the table, and then put it beside me, I sat there comfortably and listened to the teacher.

I brought out my pen, and notebook to take note of what the teacher was teaching us about since I joined mid-semester, it was easy for me at least, I continued taking notes and nodding to the teacher.

I did have some conversations with my seatmates, and they looked friendly-almost too friendly.

It was good for a few minutes but then there were three boys outside the glass window, I looked at them, looking concerned and their reaction brightened up, I smiled at them, it was easy to make people fall for me, I looked back at the teacher to focus.

After a while, the teacher went outside to what was going on, it was a coach and the three boys that were staring at me, the coach was hitting them with a rolled-up paper, he was hitting them because they skipped practice for their competition.

" I-Tim, who were those three guys? " I asked I-Tim, who was beside me.

" They are 'The Three Points', They are our school's basketball players, They are funny. " I-Tim calmly spoke, smiling but then Vaew stepped into our conversation.

" They are troublemakers, Don't pay attention to them Nanno " Taew grumbled, I turned to look at her.

" Hm, Do you like them, I-Tim? " I spoke to I-Tim as I turned to look at her.

" They are handsome but they already have so many fans so I can't compete with all their fans. " I-Tim honestly stated, it was... cute? and then I turned to the teacher, getting tired as I continued to pay attention to the teacher.

»»--⍟--«« Nanno's POV ' THE QUAD '

" The Hainanese chicken rice was so good. " I-Tim spoke as we enter the quad where we both saw 'The Three Points' run around their coach that was standing behind a metal pole.

" Come on! I'm not tired yet! " The coach yelled at them, they try to keep up with their pace when running, you could tell that they running for a while. [ A/N: help that sounds wrong- ]

" Faster! Faster! " The coach yelled again, we walk near the three boys, one tried to talk to me but kept running and just look at me instead, I ignored them and walked with I-Tim and Vaew instead.

" Have you found out her name? " The coach spoke to 'The Three Points'.

" It's Nanno. " was what I said, turning back to look at them.

I was walking around the quad, trying to get to class before it starts but that's when I heard a familiar voice call out to me.

" I-Tim! " Hok called out, he handed me a box of chocolate-dipped sticks.

" Is this for me? " I asked him, and he nodded and said 'yes'.

" Yes! " He smiled at me, and I could feel something sparking joy inside me like I'd been noticed, and then he handed me another box but this time it was strawberry-dipped instead of chocolate.

" Are you giving me two boxes??- " I spoke in an excited tone.

" No, Don't be greedy. " He said, and I felt like my world was crumbling.

" You're good friends with Nanno, right? Give this to Nanno for me. " He spoke once again, and I cracked at that point, I just walked away without saying a word, he should've just asked Nanno himself instead of using someone.

" Wait! What's wrong, I-Tim? " He called as I walked away from him, and I began back on track to go to class to give Nanno this, I won't eat it anyway, It's not for me, It's for Nanno.

»»--⍟--«« Short Timeskip Because Why Not. Nanno's POV ' CLASSROOM B '

I was just chilling at my table but then I-Tim came in and placed two boxes, one that was red and one that was pink in front of me, putting it to the side of my table, I was surprised, to say the least, and she looked angry at me.

" Hok asked me to give this to you. " She grumbled as she sat on her seat, I look at her and then look at the boxes that were placed, and I smiled a bit.

" You can eat it, I don't like it. " I spoke in a calming matter, I already knew what's gonna happen.

" No, thanks. " She responded, looking down at her table, not trying to make eye contact with me.

" Don't argue with each other! Just share it, alright? alright? " Taew spoke, trying to cool down the situation.

" No, thanks, I don't wanna eat someone's leftovers. " I-Tim harshly spoke, I looked at her as her face gets filled with anger and also jealousy.

" I'll eat it then! " Vaew excitedly spoke, taking the two boxes, I slightly curve my lips.

" Actually, It's good that you're not eating it. " I said, looking down at my notes.

" Why? It looks delicious! " Taew stated, still keeping that high-pitched voice.

" You are chubby, You might wanna lose weight. " I spoke, was I too harsh? I usually never fat-shame anyone, they are perfect for who they are, and then I-Tim was on the verge of tears when she looked at me, I smiled a little.

We just stare at each other without blinking until she gets up from her seat to go somewhere, most probably the bathroom.

" I think she looks cute being chubby... " Taew declared, I slightly curve my parted lips again into a small smile.

»»--⍟--«« Y/n's POV ' THE QUAD '

I was just chilling and sitting around the quad, It's pretty loud but that's fine but then I overheard three boys trying to bribe two girls to bring... someone? I couldn't hear them since the quad was filled with loud ass conversations but I heard one name.

And that was Nanno, I finally found her again!!!

Oh, wait, they're talking again...

Are they going to make Nanno drunk??? Oh my!- Wait a minute, oh yeah.

I was starting to get a bit overprotective before I stopped myself because I knew this was her plan but really? That's so low- but then someone sat beside me as I think.

" Y/n? " I heard a familiar voice call out for me and that was Nanno.

" Oh, hey, Nanno! " I smiled at her with my voice being happy to see her once again, it's like my whole world lights up whenever she's with me.

" Why are you here? " She questioned as she tilt her head.

" The old school was on lockdown and my parents couldn't wait for them to open back up plus they heard what happened so there would be zero chance I'm going there again. " I explained as she smiled, and she looked at my lips for a while before looking back at me, and I noticed that.

I tried hiding my flustered face with my hands but it made Nanno softly laugh instead.

" Awhh, don't cover your pretty face, love. " Nanno teased and it makes me even more flustered.

" I missed you, Nanno," I said in a loving tone as she gives me one of her signature smirks.

" It only has been a day, do you love me that much? " She teased as I smile sheepishly, clearly a bit embarrassed and flustered already.

" I- ...guess so " I admitted shyly, and Nanno's smirk just grows more amused and mischievous, and I looked back at Taew, I-Tim, and whoever the three boys were.

" Don't worry that much. " Nanno spoke out of nowhere, was she reading my thoughts?

" Hm, Okay fine. " I told her that, and she slightly curves her parted lips in a small grin, I loved it when she does that, Taew and her friend, I-Tim rejected the tickets and fled the scene as the three boys try to bribe them more but it ends up not working.

" Come," Nanno said as she stood up, and I stood up too, and she holds my hand as I followed her through the hallways and past the classrooms and into the nearest bathroom, what was she gonna do in the bathroom, piss? shit? Actually, the real question is; Does she ever need to piss or shit?

She locks the both of us in a bathroom stall, I was... confused? Concerned?- but I also knew where this was going, she locks the bathroom door and lightly pushes me on the door, pinning me while kissing me roughly but trying to be quiet.

I squeaked at the sudden movement, and we continued to kiss, our lips fitting perfectly as if they were made for each other.

" I guess someone missed me a lot " I whispered, teasing her, she just ignores it and continued to kiss me harshly in a bathroom stall at some point I could feel her hands go under my skirt, squeezing and gripping my thigh.

She teases me by grinding slowly, our hips moving in sync as she kisses me rough, pinning me to the bathroom door more harshly.

Nanno was always rough and she always liked it rough — I'm pretty sure she mentioned it before, and we continued to kiss, matching our passion for each other.

Nanno pulls away so I could breathe, and I breathe a bit heavier and so does Nanno but more lighter.

Nanno chuckles. Gosh, her voice, her laugh, I couldn't think of anything better than that, I could listen to her all day.

We still are continuing to grind as it grows more faster, making me faintly moan as a reddish pink softly spreads across my cheeks.

But as we were getting to it, we were interrupted by a knock, Nanno didn't care and continued until the third knock.

Nanno stops what she was doing, and lets her hands go out of my skirt, unlocks the door, and opens it, she holds my hand and puts on a fake innocent smile as we leave the bathroom.

After we went to a place where only a few people were in (and they weren't listening to your conversation.)

" This is not over, got it? " She says, almost demandingly as she points to my upper chest in the middle while keeps eye contact at me.

" Yes, ma'am. " I jokingly spoke as she smirked once again, satisfied with my answer.

»»--⍟--«« The Next Day >-< Nanno's POV ' CLASSROOM B '

I walked into the classroom, and greet Taew and I-Tim as they greeted me back, I was about to sit on my seat but I realized there was a white rose on my table, I looked out of the window and saw one of the boys standing there.

He was pointing to the rose and me repeatedly, and at this point, I was getting tired of them, I dropped my bag on the white rose and he expressed a hurt emotion that I cared less about so I lightly smirked at it.

Finally, he waved goodbye with his fingers that I might cut off after this, I just have to be invited to their party, and watch my plan unfold, and maybe I should invite Y/n.

" It serves him right, He's finally gone. " Taew talked, I mentally smiled at it, I sat on my chair and then Vaew spoke once again.

" Nanno, Don't you like Hok at all? " She asked, as I put on a fake smile at her.

" How about you? Do you like anyone? " I asked Taew, she just blankly stare at me and then looks at something else instead before turning straight.

" I used to but not anymore, Guys aren't trustworthy " She stated, clearly had something happen in the past.

" I agree. " I spoke, Taew takes the rose, eyeing and studying it.

" What a waste though, the flower, You hit it so hard. " Taew talked, I smiled with parted lips once again.

" If you like, you can take it, I hate flowers, especially roses. " I offered her to take it and she just talked more.

" You hate them? Why? " Taew spoke, I was getting bored at this point.

" I don't know, I just hate them. " I just denied to answer furthermore, and I-Tim just rolls her eyes and sighs at me, and she thought I didn't see that.

Y/n's POV ' HOK'S HOUSE '

" Come on, Y/n! At least one sip! " Hok begged me to drink the alcohol that was in front of me, I still refuse. If I even drink a small sip of alcohol, I'd be drunk as fuck.

They still continued drinking alcohol until the whole bottle finished. Jeez, how much can their stomachs take?

" Bottoms up! " were heard in the dining room, I was getting tired not because of the smell of the alcohol, it didn't leave an effect on me but I probably will be throwing up after this, we all drank our cups.

("Why will they throw up after that?" Shhhhhh secret 😻).

" How can you drink so much, Nanno? " A boy slurred because of all of the alcohol they consumed, Taew and I-Tim looked at each other with worried looks on their face, they will drug Nanno and I know it.

" Come on, One more? " Hok spoke, opening the bottle once again to fill our cups, I just wanted to be dead right now, it would be better than this so-called party, and of course, Nanno shallowed it with no problem.

" I'm bored... " I whispered to Nanno.

" It's okay, It'll be over soon, just trust me. " She half-promises me as she whispers to me in a calm and almost motherly voice.

" Let's get some snacks! " Taew spoke to I-Tim, and they both got up to the kitchen counter saying that they'll be back, I saw that I-Tim had her mom's drugs in her hand, This was getting somewhere I didn't like, I'm pretty sure my stomach didn't like it too.

" S-sorry, I'll just- go to the bathroom," I said, standing up to go to the bathroom, I did eventually throw up — But don't worry I cleaned myself after, I got back to the table with random ass people I don't know.

I guess you could say I got back with the party, I don't know these people personally, I just joined this school a day ago — I think?

" Come on, Nanno! last one, please? " I-Tim begged Nanno to drink her cup, I guess she was waiting for me to come back, such a good girlfriend, I sat down and Nanno put her left hand on my thigh, gently squeezing it.

I drank my cup even though I could see the pills in Nanno's drink, and it still irritates me so much- should I tell them she's taken? — Actually, we didn't even make it official yet.

Nanno walked closer to the door, putting her hand there before laying her head on it, calling to I-Tim if she wanted to trade places with her, I-Tim just called for Hok to hurry up and fuck her, I was getting tired of them at this point.

" Hok questioned, looking frustrated by her actions, he tries to stop her by covering her mouth, and she still continued to laugh at him with her laughs muffled by his hands, and I honestly can't believe what I'm legit hearing through these walls — I mean I wanna go home already...

" You won't stop laughing? " He roared while Nanno maniacally laughs even more, I don't know if I should leave or just stay...

The dumbass decided to choke Nanno and of course, gets her unconscious but he assumes she's dead.

" Fuck... " Hok realized what he has done to Nanno while us is just confused why it's now silent...

But then I-Tim and Taew opened the door, and there's a "unconscious" Nanno on Hok's bed.

Everyone (except for Nanno and me) were panicking and getting worried that someone would find out, they would be suspended from school and even worse, brought into jail.

I crossed my arms, and I-Tim thought that it was goooood idea to bury her without checking for a pulse.

I just went along with it and they carried Nanno's body into the car where they drove into a park that was probably abandoned.

They got out the shovels and began doing what I-Tim suggested earlier, of course I didn't help.

" Y/n! Come help us! " Taew begged, I reacted to that with just nothing, a blank face before I rolled my eyes.

" I'm not helping you bury a body. " I spoke, clearly I don't want to partake in any of this.

" Please Y/n! " She begged once more, and I was getting even more tired, gosh, it's midnight already?

I sighed and agreed to help a little that is but then Nanno coughed out of nowhere (get it).

They quickly buried her without helping her get out which was a bad idea, I didn't help them, I was kinda just shook but I did expect that to happen.

The next day is gonna be crazy... I can already imagine the shock on their face and the fear in their eyes — Even if I'm a class away from them.

»»--⍟--«« I-Tim's POV ' SCHOOL: CLASSROOM B '

Me and Taew were in class, feeling guilty of what we did last night... Until someone came inside of the classroom, It was...

NANNO?!?

That's impossible, I thought we buried her alive! — Wait, that's kind of creepy but we still did it anyway.

Me and Taew were shocked to see Nanno alive and clean, not even a spec of dirt can be seen on her uniform...

" I'm sorry I'm late. " Nanno apologized, I was still in shock as my eyes widen, I couldn't believe it! Please tell it's all a dream, please, please, please!

" Come on in. " The teacher spoke, she didn't care if she was late, she told her to sit down and she walked over to us.

Holy shit.

The teacher said to take out our books but I was still frozen and Taew was probably feeling the same thing too.

" Taew, I-Tim, Why didn't you wake me up? " Nanno innocenly asked as if nothing ever happened.

We (Taew and me) just looked at each other... I give up at this point... I broke eye contact with her to look down but then looked at Nanno, she looks so life-like... This isn't Nanno, it's just someone else impersonating her... Right?

" Do you think she remembers last night? " I could hear faintly, I and Nanno walking towards Taew and I-Tim.

" I don't really know- " Taew got cut off by I-Tim as they scoot away from Nanno and me who was about to sit on the bench they were on.

" You want some? " Nanno asked politely, holding out strawberry-flavored Pocky (or whatever Thai brand it is, man idk) to them, they refused to make eye contact with her.

" You look so pale..." Nanno spoke, at this point I don't wanna just listen to their conversation, ahh but I can't just talk out of nowhere, right?

" Must've gotten too drunk, I guess. " Nanno spoke and smiled at them, they were gonna shiver at this point.

" Who the heck are you? " Taew questioned Nanno, finally they spoke up, and I can feel my stomach sink.

" Did you forget me already Taew? I'm Nanno, Maybe you have Alzheimer's. " Nanno says with that smile yet I could sense some kind of mischievousness.

" You are not Nanno... " Taew spoke with fear in her voice, almost trembling.

" If I'm not Nanno... Then who am I? " Nanno replied to them then she turns to me, giving me that 'It's starting~' look.

" But you're not Nanno..." I-Tim spoke out of nowhere making Nanno turn back to them.

" What? I-Tim, that is crazy, Hey, you look kind of sick today... Let me give you a check up, Come on, give me your hand. " Nanno forcefully grabbed Taew's left hand which had a bandage wrapped around it.

Nanno put two fingers below Taew's thumb to check her pulse and left it there for a while to study her pace.

" It looks like your pulse is strong... " Nanno spoke, Taew glanced at Nanno and looked at the ground frantically.

Nanno touched Taew's cheek to check her temperature but Taew moved away a little but then Nanno touched the other.

" Your temperature is fine, too..." Nanno said as Taew and I-Tim get nervous and uncomfortable...

" You guys are probably not sick... " Nanno said with her focused and almost chilling stare...

"And... This wound on your hand... Is so ugly... " Nanno spoke in a cold and almost menacing voice, the air starts to be cold and thick...

" It looks like you did some digging. " Nanno spoke, getting close to Taew's face, staring at her eyes intently...

I-Tim immediately pulls Taew to run and get away from Nanno before she could say anything else.

" Listen! The party last night was so fun! Don't forget to invite me next time!" Nanno spoke, mocking them at this point, she takes a bite of the strawberry-covered stick before looking back to me and looking up at the boys who were saying on her.

Nanno turned back to me, a small grin growing on her face as her eyes focus on me.

Me and Nanno walked to class silently - painfully quiet, and Nanno noticed how quiet I was being.

Why you ask? Simply because of last night — Look- I was not mentally nor physically prepared to hear Nanno getting fucked for the second time-

After some classes and whatnot, it was recess, and I mostly did tasks for the juniors to avoid Nanno.

Some of the tasks were easy, some were hard, and some were just downright stupid (Not like I'll name any.)

There was one junior that was outside of a classroom, they look a tad bit scared - They said to me that the classroom Infront of us suddenly became pitch black as if there was no light at all.

The junior - of course - has a fear of the dark, and they kind of have some stuff that they left behind because they were so scared that they just instantly ran out of the door.

I sighed at the student, and agreed to get whatever they left behind - Although, it's still confusing how it could be pitch black when there's windows?

I went inside, closing the door behind - And they weren't kidding that it was pitch black.

I almost can't see a single thing, and I try to find a light switch on the side of the wall near to the classroom door.

My hand is just hovering on the wall, desperate to find a switch - But then, I bumped into someone.

Of course, I couldn't see them... But just one smell of their scent... A smell like blood yet the smell of beautiful soft roses...

Yeah it's definitely Nanno in front of me.

" Are you trying to find... This? " Nanno says in her usual playful tone, and I could almost hear that she's saying it while smirking - As she speaks, she gently grabs my wrist and put it on the light switch.

I was in shock that I almost forgot to flip the switch — I did it, and there's Nanno, towering over me with that big stupid smirk of hers.

" ... What do you want? " I say, but it comes out a bit harsh (which was not my intention but I'm still mad at her).

" My my... I just wanted to know why you're being so quiet today?~ " She spoke, as her right hand lightly grips my chin to force me to look at her.

" ... It's nothing... " I lied — I very obviously lied — Nanno's smirk just widens even more.

" Nothing, you say? " Nanno says, her grip on my chin faintly tightens, and I could feel myself getting nervous — In a good way.

" Yes- now leave me alone- " I spoke quite quickly, eager to just take the stuff and go, and not see Nanno right now.

I try to get away but Nanno suddenly picks me up bridal-style, and I make a surprised sound.

" What the- Let me go! " I exclaimed, trying to get out of Nanno's grasp but she was holding me tight.

" Shh... We don't want anyone to hear us now, don't we? " Nanno says with her low yet flirtatious voice.

I stop trying to get out, and I realize what's gonna happen, a reddish pink faintly spreads across my cheeks.

I try to say something but what am I supposed to say? Nanno just looks at me with her cold eyes and her devilish smirk and that smug ass expression... I just want to wipe it off her face.

Nanno puts me on the Teacher's desk, and I sit up right, and then Nanno began kissing me hungrily like there's no tomorrow.

Her rough and deeply passionate kisses just makes me want to faintly moan, and Nanno smirks in the kiss when she heard it.

Nanno pulls away, and I breathe heavily and Nanno does too but just more lighter.

After a while, Nanno pulls us back into another kiss, and I could feel her hands go down to my thighs, caressing them.

What a tease.

Nanno kept kissing me before moving on to my jaw then on my neck, her lips felt so soft on my skin...

Nanno continued to put her lips gently on my neck before nibbling a little bit, making me whimper slightly.

" We'll continue this later. " Nanno says with her smirk on her face, I just narrowed my eyes at her before rolling my eyes in annoyance, I get off of the table, and went to get that poor junior's stuff.

Me and Nanno are in my house, yippee !! We're both in my bedroom, I was just on the bed, sitting upright, pressing my back against the bedframe, And on my phone.

Nanno's just sitting at the edge in my bed, probably spacing off or whatever... Not like I can see — Even though I could just move my phone away.

I was just peacefully scrolling on social media, y'know? Just seeing what's up today.

But then I received a text message from I-Tim.

I thought what to type for a while — I mean, how'd they get my number?

Y/n: Hi?

I-Tim: I was wondering if you would like to come with me and Taew? We're just gonna hang out since I haven't talked to you! Like a welcome!

As if... I definitely don't want to see them ever again but maybe it's apart of Nanno's plan — But then again I should ask-

" You can go. " Nanno says out of nowhere like she was reading my thoughts.

" I didn't say- " I got cut off by Nanno.

" It's okay, you can go. " Nanno says as she turns her head to look at me before smirking slightly, just slightly.

" Fine... " I spoke, I really want to say no but if Nanno wants me to then fine, I guess.

Y/n: Okay.

Though I can't help but think if we're —Me and Nanno— official or not, I mean we made out multiple times? But I don't actually know what's our relationship. Friendship? Romantic Relationship? Situationship? Something something ship?

It's what I've been thinking about all day —kind of, most of my thinking were focusing on Nanno more— and I can't help myself to ask her.

Suddenly, my phone gets snatched out of my hands —gently?— it was Nanno, she puts my phone on the coffee table next to my bed.

Nanno gets closer to me, her hands on my thigh as her finger slightly glide to my inner thighs, slowly caressing it.

I felt my face burning up, Nanno was getting closer and closer by time. Our noses were touching each other, our lips slightly brushing against each other but not really kissing.

Nanno was like staring into my soul, her eyes felt like an endless void. At this point, Nanno was in between my legs.

Nanno finally closed her eyes and smashed our lips together into a passionate kiss, I flutter my eyes shut as we enjoy the moment right now.

After a few seconds, Nanno pulled away although our lips were still touching each other.

Nanno pulled away, our lips break apart, her lips curling into a soft grin, a grin that was genuine. I'm probably the first seeing and making her like that.

" I know what you're thinking, you know? " Nanno spoke, her voice was to die for. Her eyes narrowed in a way that makes anyone fold.

" What do you want us to be? " She asked, I was still completely red because of the kiss and how close Nanno is.

" I... " I didn't know what to say, I was shocked, flustered even. Nanno chuckles softly —like a human— Nanno loved making me feel vulnerable like this.

" Oh, I know. You want us to be together like a real relationship? Is that what you want, darling? " She says, her grin turning into a small smirk.

I nodded at Nanno's question, I did want her and I to be in a relationship, I wanted her.

" If that's what you want then I'll do it... But are you sure you can handle me? " Nanno teased, she winks at me. I felt my body warming up, somehow this woman is making me feel these things and I'm not complaining.

I nodded again, Nanno's smirk widens. Nanno's eyes travel to my body, I can Nanno biting her inner lip as she does so.

I arrive at his house with I-Tim and Taew, and I-Tim knocked on the door and Hok opens it.

We three go inside of his house, it seems like the other two boys were here already.

We all are in the kitchen, discussing on the incident that they caused, I don't even know why I'm here in the first place.

" So this means that she didn't disappear, are we out of trouble now?- " One boy spoke, he seems to be calm in this situation.

" Are you crazy? Do you think this girl posing as Nanno has no objectives? " Taew harshly interrupted him.

" What do you want us to do? Kill another person? " The green shirt boy said, getting mad at Taew.

" You should really think before you ask anything. " I spoke as I cross my arms.

" That's right, Y/n. She knows all of us, she knows this place, and she knows about the party last night! " Taew said, clearly annoyed and angry by the tine of her harsh voice.

" And she even knows that we were digging! " I-Tim said in a mad voice also.

" And she said that she wanted to party here again. " Taew spoke in a bit more calming tone but the anger in still in her voice.

The green shirt boy sighed, he seems like he doesn't know what to do - I mean it was really his fault that this started.

" ... Is it her twin? " Hok said, desperate to know the answer to his question about this Nanno.

" She said she was Nanno. " I-Tim said, almost like she was this close to snapping.

It's silent, the air is thick as the tension builds. They have so many questions yet little that are answered.

" I don't want to be involved in this anymore, if you want to kill one more person, then go ahead. " The boy with a white shirt that's close to Taew.

" Isn't your father a teacher? "

" Stop!- " " Don't get my father involved in this. " The boy gripped the collar of Taew's shirt, his anger visible in his voice.

" I don't want to. But if anyone finds out, you're going down. Your father will go down with you. " Taew snapped, her gaze on the boy never breaks.

Ding dong!

The doorbell goes off, I wonder who it is? I mean, I hope it's Nanno so I can get out of this mess.

Hok went to the front door, confused on who's knocking at this late hour. He approached the door and opened it a bit quickly.

It was Nanno! She looks at Hok with her growing smirk.

" What are you doing here? " Hok said in a cold voice, Nanno just laughs softly - Not like manically, no, not yet.

" Don't sound so distant like that. " Nanno spoke as she takes a step into the house.

" Did you forget about last night? " Nanno spoke, looking at Hok, maintaining eye contact.

I-Tim, Taew, Me, and the two other boys went closer to the front door, just near to it.

" Hello. Everyone is here - Even Y/n.. But you didn't invite me? " Nanno says in a sad pouty tone.

" You guys are mean. " Nanno spoke, still with that tone.

Nanno chuckles like she likes how no one is talking and is just radio silent.

" I'm kidding, I just forgot my phone. " Nanno said before playing with her as she thinks.

" It's probably in Hok's bedroom. " Nano spoke out of nowhere (get it?) before she immediately walks to the staircase.

" Fuck- " Hok said, his breath almost shaking as he follows Nanno, trying to stop her.

Nanno doesn't give a fuck though, she just carries on walking up the stairs. The rest of us just follows Nanno upstairs.

She looks down and stares at us coldly with her netural expression when she reached the second pair of stairs.

We eventually got to Hok's bedroom and we see Nanno laying down on the bed, she seems to like the mattress or something.

" The bed is so soft... It's too bad I only spent a short time on it. " Nano says looking up at the ceiling before turning to the door where we are.

" Do you want to join me? Let's relive some history. " Nanno says, her smirk starts to appear on her face once again but it turns into a slight grin.

" Don't you love me anymore? " Nanno says, raising her eyebrows a little bit as the people just stay silent.

" Were you gonna dump me after? " ... It's just silence, the tension building up again.

" I found it. " Nanno says, pulling out her phone from under her pillow.

" There are some great videos here. Do you want to watch them with me? " Nanno said, her smirk widening.

" Oh- me! " I say, happily walking to the bed, almost skipping to it before I sit on the bed too. Nanno's smirk just grows wider.

" Nevermind, I'll watch them with Y/n. " Nanno says as I scoot a bit closer to her, our gazes turned to her phone.

H- " Can I have sex with you? I-I love you. " - N- " Taew, Are you that mad at me that you won't let me out? T- " You can only come out after they're done having sex with you! " - I-T- " Hok! Hurry and do what you need to do! " - H-FRIEND1- " Hok, let me go first if you're not hard yet. " - H-FRIEND2- " I haven't done anything! " T- " Weren't you next in line? " Taew is really speechless — Actually everyone is (except me and Nanno).

- I look at Hok as his body is in shock. H- " What... What should we do? " Nanno's gaze turns to I-Tim once again. I-T- " We need to bury her body "

The videos ended there, Nanno clapped at their very very very very very good performance and very very very very very very good actions.

And just by that, they all pounced on Nanno, making Nanno suffocate with the pillow and probably going to bury her again for the 100th time.

And I was right.

They all get unconscious Nanno out of the car, and quickly dug up a hole in a matter of seconds.

They push Nanno into the hole they dug and they dig up the dirt back so it could cover her.

Of course, I still did not help at all, whatsoever. Clearly still not partaking in any digging at all...

But then, Nanno's phone goes off. The videos play once again and everyone was confused.

" What? Is it her phone? " Taew said, tilting her head slightly as her expression is confusion.

" Hok, get it! " I-Tim demanded to Hok, Hok goes and crawls on top of Nanno who is half buried — All of a sudden, Nanno grabs Hok's neck and laughed manically, her eyes wide as she stares into Hok's fearful eyes.

The laugh ringing in the squad's ears, Hok tries to get away but Nanno wouldn't budge, her grip is tight.

Everyone is panicking, Taew is on the brink of tears as the rest were just shocked and taken aback by Nanno's sudden movements.

Hok was hitting Nanno with a goddamn shovel, I didn't know what to do honestly. I just witnessed the whole thing.

Nanno is "dead" again — But then another Nanno appeared right in front of them, just a few feet away.

" Aren't you guys tired? " Nanno spoke as she crosses her arms, every one of them backed up as their expressions looked fearful.

Hok then decided to smack Nanno with the shovel for like the second time, no one stops Hok though for some reason.

They panicked. They immediately ran to the car, struggling to get in as Hok tries to find his keys — Meanwhile another clone of Nanno was just introducing herself again, she looked excited as she said they wanted to hang out again.

Hok still couldn't find his keys, Nanno came right behind him with keys dangling in her hand.

" Were you looking for this? " Nanno spoke with a soft innocent little smile but it definitely was hiding something underneath.

Hok hesitated but he took the car keys away from Nanno, he looked afraid of Nanno just like everyone else.

" Get home safe, love! " Nanno said in a tone that makes you warm and fuzzy yet uneasy. Nanno pecked her lips onto Hok's cheek, everyone —Except Nanno and I— wanted to escape so badly.

When the car made a noise —indicating that it was unlocked— Everyone rushed inside of the car, Hook hurriedly drove away from Nanno.

Nanno smirked before turning back to me. She walked closer to me, and gently pulled me closer by my waist. She buries her head into my neck, slightly kissing my neck.

" C'mon, let's go. " Nanno says in a soft and kind tone that sounds somewhat genuine.

hey i saw your post abt 911 and i want to say that the show does get better. i probably really liked s3 the most or around then. but as far as season one goes, it does become more like a family but the difference with lone star is that it wasn’t created immediately so watching that first definitely shows you show slow it goes in og. (idk if you want info on the buck/abby thing but spoilery so i won’t say anything unless you ask) i hope that this is a little reassuring!

Yeah, I probably made the mistake of watching lone star first - curse my mam and her love for rob lowe🤣 but i'm going to get myself through s1 because there must be something about the show that has so many people enjoying it and coming back every week. I've heard s2 brings in new characters that help it out a lot. I do know she leaves after s1 but that's it. That is helping me continue, knowing she won't be there for much longer so the relationship probably can't go anywhere. It's not that she's a horrible person or anything, just the whole situation and relationship gives me the ick. but tbh all relationships with large age gaps - where one could parent the other - always gives me the ick. -the archive is a super funky place that studies all sorts of weird shit. important characters from it include head archivist jon sims, his merry band of helpers martin, sasha and tim, and sexy boss elias.

-gertrude robinson was jon's predecesor, the last head archivist. apparently she was a bit disorganized, but maybe she was just Fun. elias says she disappeared but found a lot of blood on her office, so they considered her dead. turns out martin found her in the tunnels during the prentiss attack, dead from gunshots, sitting in a little room full of tapes. also interesting: in the burnt remains episode, that ritual place had her photograph inside all the bottles. the guy from ep 11 dreamer wrote to gertrude, telling her she was in danger. in the growing dark episode they mention she had been near the weird church place before she died. or smth.

-another important (?) character is michael saland fingers. he appears normal but is kinda like that salad fingers dude, and probably speaks like a wavy meme from all the distortion. i think he did something to sasha, cause she was acting weird, but i'm not sure.

-there's the whole jurgen leitner thing, a norwegian dude who had a big collection of creepy books. his books appear in ep 4, with the guy who was friends with mike crew (lightning boy), then in 17 with the boneturner's tale, where we learn about some jared hopworth or smth dude, who's got funny bones. i think he had something to do with the schwartzwald episode, with the tomb and the books found there? and also in the old passages episode.

-speaking of leitner, there are two characters connected to him: mary and gerard key (i still don't know how you spell that). mary had a shaved head and her skin was all tattooed, she appeared in ep4 but was actually dead i think, so i'm not sure about her. then we have gerard, her son, who's like a metalhead looking kinda dude, and he's always trying to...burn? get rid of? the leitner books? in ep 12, first aid, he is at a hospital being treated because of his burns, and has a bunch of tattoos of eyes on his body.

-peter lukas is also a character. i don't know why he's important, but fandom tells me he's elias' husband divorced for the 5th time, so he must be. he's a seacaptain, has or worls for a company called solace shipping, and may be connected to the lukas family from ep 13, alone, the creepy ones from the funeral. also, the lukases finance the magnus institute.

-also there's a jonah magnus, the dude from schwartzwald wrote to him once. that's all i have for now.

-melanie is a tv person, and there's a georgie who's a youtuber. idk, man.

-random connections from random episodes!: the coffin from ep 2 do not open was delivered by the same company that delivered the yellow stole to the priest in 19/20

hello! loved your tbb meta posts (10/10 analyses of the batch and their respective characterizations), but since it wasn't explicitly mentioned -- did you catch the post-s1 interview with jennifer corbett (head writer) and brad rau (exec producer)? their answers about crosshair's chip being out were Interesting (tm) but fairly definitive-sounding, so I'm wondering what your thoughts on it might've been.

Hey there, anon! Thank you—I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed them :D

I’ve heard this info second-hand and ran into one written interview on the topic (idk if it’s the same one you’re thinking of), but my first response is… arguably a reach lol. Not to start off with a tin hat on, but it’s always possible that the writers are lying. Which yes, yes, we have a knee-jerk reaction against the idea of anyone lying for any reason, but in this case, it would be in service of both the writer’s plans and the audience’s enjoyment. Let’s say for the sake of argument that Crosshair’s chip is definitely still in and the entire point of this setup is a double twist: first the reveal that his chip is gone, then the real reveal that it’s actually still in and Crosshair was lied to (among other possibilities). How can the writers discuss him during hiatus without revealing that twist? By playing the current knowledge straight, despite the fact that they know otherwise. Yup, Crosshair’s chip is out. Yup, he chose this 100% willingly. Nothing else to see here, folks! To do otherwise would be to reveal the twist way too early. Even refusing to answer the question, dodging it, would give it all away. Imagine if during a season finale we’re meant to believe that a character is dead and then during hiatus an interviewer asks how the cast will mourn them. If the writer refuses to answer, every fan will realize that Something Is Up and what’s the main possibility here? That they’re not actually dead! Twist spoiled… unless the writer pretends that what the audience currently knows is definitely the truth here.

Taking my tin hat off now, these interviews are one of the main reasons why I’m worried about the writing moving forward. Because despite the paragraph above, I’m by no means convinced that the writers are skillfully keeping up a lie to avoid spoilers. It’s not outside the realm of possibility, but it’s not necessarily likely either. Which leaves us taking their words at face value and that’s… a problem. Because as so many fans have already pointed out, the writing is setting up a twist that, according to these interviews, doesn’t exist. That doesn’t say good things about their intentions for the show vs. what actually ends up on screen and that kind of disconnect becomes frustrating for viewers very quickly. Take the headaches, for example. I’ve seen a couple of fans explain Crosshair’s away using the engine accident: “His face got burned up, of course his head still hurts. You’re reading too much into this.” But imagine for a moment if I’d tried to do the same thing for Wrecker prior to “Battle Scars”: “He gets thrown around and hits his head nearly every episode, of course it hurts. You’re reading too much into this.” Other fans would have—quite rightfully—explained to me how television works and that this repetitive problem is functioning as foreshadowing of a larger problem. With a side of the fact that this is an action show where the characters consistently shrug off their injuries. We’re not supposed to take Wrecker getting thrown around seriously. He’s the brawn of the group, meant to withstand a lot of damage, with any injuries being presented as either #cool (Wrecker shrugs off Fennec’s hits to go after Omega, yeah!) or #funny (Wrecker treats Crosshair shooting him like a badge of honor lol), not something he’s going to have to grapple with in a serious manner. So the audience recognizes the question, what’s more likely? That Wrecker’s headaches are a deliberate visual cue on the part of the writers to tell us that something important is happening, or that suddenly how the genre treats injuries has drastically changed?

It's precisely the same with Crosshair. He’s not the brawn like Wrecker is, but he’s still the action (anti)hero who shrugs off injuries because this is a show interested in more fun, explosive plot, not a deep dive into recovery. (See also: the story doing nothing with Echo’s trauma.) When Crosshair is injured, he’s immediately fighting to get back into a ship and when we next see him he’s passed the recovery stage entirely. There’s only a scar to show that this happened at all. We don’t watch him getting bacta skin grafts, or worrying about his eyesight, or struggling to eat, etc. The point is that he was injured for the purposes of that episode and now he’s not. So why would we think his headaches are a long-term symptom when the show is otherwise not at all interested in writing long-term symptoms? What’s more likely, that this familiar visual cue is being repeated to tell us that this is the chip, just like it was with Wrecker, or that the story is randomly interested in something it never was interested in before?

The audience is right to think that there’s more going on because the show has been written to say, "Something more is going on." The headaches, Crosshair’s refusal to give concrete information, the group conveniently not using Tech’s scanner, the burn scar hiding where the chip’s scar would be, a lack of motivation for the Empire removing the chip, not seeing its removal when the show did include its power being amplified… all of these are deliberate writing choices to set up another reveal. But, if we take the interview at face value and learn that these weren’t deliberate details… then what? The writers are making mistakes? Throwing in “clues” for the hell of it that they never intend to cache in on? Unless there’s some amazing answer here that allows for both these inconsistencies' explanations and the writers’ hard stance—something I personally can’t think up—then we’re left with is a pretty serious flaw in the show. A flaw that’s going to undermine the audience’s trust in everything we get from here on out. The next time we see something that feels like a cool setup/reveal, half the fandom will be going, “Yes! It totally means that ___ is going to happen!!” while the other half will be going, “… does it? Because we thought things were happening with Crosshair and that went nowhere.” Writers have to tackle the implications of what they’ve put on screen. Otherwise, the story falls apart.

So yeah, I’m aware of those hard “His chip is out and this is his choice” statements and, frankly, they make me nervous for season two. Because what the show needs is to engage with what we actually got in the finale: an ambiguous state of Crosshair’s chip, a number of hints that it might still be in there, and an ethical dilemma that, so far, hasn’t acknowledged how much of an influence the group’s decisions have had on Crosshair’s. I tackled most of this in the first analysis, but something I didn’t unpack there was the “choice” of not leaving with them. I mean yes, by all exact definitions—and if we accept that the chip really isn’t there—then Crosshair absolutely had free will in that moment to do as he pleased. But life is way more complicated than that. Imagine for a moment that I put two candy bars in front of you. “You can have whichever one you’d like,” I say. You reach for the one on the left and I glare, hard. I scoff at you. I mutter about your choices, your personality, your flaws, and your mistakes. So you reach for the one on the right instead and I’m… neutral. Okay then. Right candy bar it is. “They could have chosen the one on the left” someone watching claims. “Nothing was stopping them. No one put a gun to their head!” And yeah, the concept of “stopping them” was never that extreme… but the more compassionate, nuanced look acknowledge that some measure of “stopping them” did exist. Insults. Cruelty. A clear indication that one choice was wrong and the other was right. That’s one hell of an influence, even if it's not as formidable as a gun or a chip.

And that’s what Crosshair is dealing with. Yes, joining the Empire is clearly wrong and yes, a non-chipped Crosshair has free will to walk away from it… but walking towards TBB was never presented as a real option for him. He saw that through their inaction when they never came back for him. Then in Hunter’s refusal to admit that they’d made a mistake in leaving him behind. Wrecker putting all responsibility on his shoulders, despite knowing what the chip does to someone. Tech backing him up and framing this situation as stemming solely from Crosshair’s base personality—“severe and unyielding.” It’s seen in the always-loving Omega walking away from him in the barracks, in Crosshair’s hesitation to follow them to safer ground (and boy oh boy, do I have sad headcanons about that), and most especially, in their reactions to him saving Omega. What Crosshair learns in that moment is that they honestly believe that he, not the Empire's chip, but he would shoot Hunter and that saving their little sister is not a point in his favor. It's met only with glares and a need to disarm himself. They don’t trust him and actions that should produce trust are outright ignored, so… where can they go from here? Nowhere, according to TBB’s actions. They’re not giving Crosshair any wiggle room, any hope that these relationships can be repaired, or any acknowledgement that they had a hand in things getting this bad. So when they offer to let Crosshair come with them—which is very significantly presented as an obligation, not something they want—he knows that offer is BS. Whatever their real feelings might be (because the found family show obviously wants us to believe that everyone loves each other), their actions have said loud and clear that they don’t want him. That yes, he could technically walk onto that ship… but that it would be the “wrong” decision accompanied by more insults, scoffs, and pressure to do otherwise. That once he's there, he'll be treated only as a threat with any good deeds ignored. It's an awful offer outside of it being the morally correct decision when it comes to leaving the Empire... so Crosshair reaches for the right candy bar instead.

That very long tangent out of the way, THIS is what season two has to grapple with, along with all that ambiguity and the existence of these "The chip is still here" hints. But the interviews don’t seem to acknowledge that all of this exists, instead framing things as if we’d ended the finale knowing for sure that the chip is out and had watched a season where Crosshair is 100% responsible for everything that’s happened, no Empire or TBB influence involved. The way the interviews frame things doesn’t match up with the text, so I can only hope this is an example of bad communication, or the writers keeping a spoiler under wraps, because otherwise… season two might be frustrating to watch, with fans continually going, “Why are you ignoring that this happened? Why are you pretending that all of this is simpler than it actually is?”

Season 1 was SO musically superior! Like imma be honest, there are very few songs I remember or liked from season 2. I think in hell I’ll be in good company, golden brown, and major Tom are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Season 1's soundtrack is iconic. Phantom of the opera? I think we're alone now? The Walker? Shingaling? Kill of the night, hazy shade of winter, happy together, run boy run, picture book, don’t stop me now... they’re all so good! No mistakes were made XD

YES. YES. YES. 

ok this is going to be an extremely long answer and... 

Necessary disclaimer: these are just all my personal opinions (pls don’t attack me)

Season 1 was a musical masterpiece. The OST and the pop music worked really well together. But I... wasn’t impressed with the music in S2. There’s lots of reasons why.

But what you’re talking about... honestly same. I just looked through a playlist of the pop music in S2 and I didn’t remember most of them? Couldn’t even guess what scenes they might play in? That’s... an immediate failing. If you put a song in a show, it needs to be a deliberate choice and it needs to mean something or else why would you bother including that song?

Music in cinema is really... weird. Even more so when you introduce pop music. 

Ok, let’s go from the beginning... a good musical scoring is supposed to reflect what is happening on your screen. It’s meant to support but not overwhelm. A good musical scoring will implicitly tell you more about the story than what you are visually given... but it’s incredibly subtle. You’re not meant to realize that you’re getting some extra info because that would distract you from what’s actually happening on the screen. Some background processing of info, if you get what I mean. (more to come in my OST analysis, should it ever be finished I guess lol)

This isn’t the case with pop music. This can’t be the case with pop music. 

Remember, the OST is original composition. Written specifically for this show. Only introduced to you in the context of this show.

Popular music, by definition, exists outside the context of this show. 

So there’s a really subtle balance that needs to be kept here when introducing pop music because you risk taking your audience out of the moment and making them think of other memories they already associate with that song. 

How do you combat that? Well, diagetic music (music built into the show, like “I Think We’re Alone Now”) tends to be more easily digested and accepted as part of the show material, since the characters are obviously hearing this music as well and interacting/reacting to the music. You have visual confirmation that this music is part of the show as well as auditory stimulation, so brain is less likely to wander off on its own journey. 

But the more clever way? Have an incredibly meaningful scene tied with it, something that fits in all the right ways and allows it to work like the score, giving you additional information without you even knowing it. Something that overpowers your brain’s tendency to get distracted by whatever other context you may associate with that pop song. Something that will grab your brain and be like “Sorry, brain. This song is officially a TUA song.”

This obviously works best if you have very little memories associated with the song, so the more obscure the song the better. But if you’re an absolute mad genius with your music and your cinematic timing, you can overpower any association with any song, no matter how popular it is. (... ever wonder why every song in Shrek became an immediate Shrek song? yeah lol)

You also have to recognize that the pop music in TUA or in any other piece of cinema that includes pop music? It does not exist in auditory isolation. There’s a running stream of background music and sounds and noises. Clever sound production will make the jump between music as smooth as possible. Clever scoring will think about how to weave a narrative, while keeping in mind the pop music that will be inserted as well. Make everything as subtle and smooth as possible. Your job is to not take the audience away from the narrative of the screen.

Ok, that was a lot of background info. You may be asking, “LOL BEAN WHAT’S YOUR MAIN POINT?”

Alright, so here it is.

The pop music in season 2 was pretty much doomed to be less effective from the get-go. 

The original score of TUA is composed by the lovely Jeff Russo. From my understanding, he knew what pop music was already planned for season 1 before he even got to scoring. This is important. Because he could make choices about the score and the motifs, while keeping the pop music in mind. He could make a more cohesive sound and music experience. And it worked.

There were deliberate choices made with the pop music. They prioritized and made sure you heard them in the right contexts. I will tell you now that there may be some pop music in season 1 that you completely forgot about. That’s OK. You weren’t necessarily supposed to remember them that much. You can’t be expected to pick up on everything. But the ones that played during the most important scenes? “Run Boy Run,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” “The Walker,” “Never Tear Us Apart”? You know them. They played them longer and they took the time for your ears to appreciate the music and recognize its context in the show. None of this works if your ears and your brain don’t have enough time to process and form the associations of this song with what is happening on the screen. And they resonated with you the most because they reflected what was happening in the show the strongest. These are the important scenes you were supposed to care about and will play in your mind now whenever you hear those songs. 

But an even stronger testament to the integrity of pop music in S1: The other songs you forgot about and can’t name off the top of your head? You can listen to them again and maybe even make a good guess at when they were playing in the show. They... fit the show somehow, even if you can’t exactly place it. 

And this all makes sense if they chose these songs even before they started filming. Even before they started most of the scoring. 

In season 1, choices were made because of the pop music. 

... not so much the case for season 2. 

I’ve spent less time on the music for season 2 and honestly I don’t plan to spend much more ahaha... But here’s my two cents:

The music in season 2... is incredibly confused. You no longer have this cohesive sound experience that showed up in season 1. The OST is stuck with motifs that were developed with pop music from s1 in mind. Also, Russo played really hard into the fact that Vanya played the violin in season 1 and now there’s no violin at all on-screen, but he’s stuck with an excess amount of violin in the scoring, so there’s already less of a connection there. Not only that, but Russo is no longer the sole score composer, was working on other projects while scoring this one, so there’s less time from him dedicated to make this score work, but also a slightly different sound being introduced from another composer.

Now, add in the messiness of time travel to the 1960′s. The OST is not the 1960's. Not even the new tracks introduced. So the 1960′s sound is... trying to come from the pop music. The pop music that doesn’t blend in with your OST because your OST was developed for a time set in the present. 

But wait! Your S1 soundtrack got really popular because of its prime pop music choices... music that fit really well with your scenes. Let’s do that... but even more. Let’s use really popular music !! Backstreet boys, maybe some covers of Billie Eilish, and Adele. Everyone knows these songs !! They’ll see how clever we are and it’ll make them laugh !! 

(Notably, this kinda ruins the charm that they were hoping to replicate from S1? Honestly, several times while I was watching S2, I literally shook my head and closed my eyes, thinking.... “of course, they would play this.” Took me completely out of the show. Yeah, it can be really fun, but idk if you are thinking about the people behind cinematic decisions during your first watch of a show, those people probably messed up at their job?)

But wait, I thought you were using your pop music to establish the 1960′s theme? Now some of your music is directly clashing with that and the environmental setting? You’re confused. What are you supposed to be taking away from the pop music now?

And here’s something even more messy: the pop music in S1 was so incredibly important in establishing the musical identity of your characters, since they were played during some of the most defining character moments. Consciously or not, you have some musical expectations already for each of the characters. Not only that, but you’re expecting this pop music to be telling you more things about your characters than what you’re seeing on the screen. What happens when those expectations are not met? There’s some cognitive dissonance. You’re mentally taken out of the show, thinking about other things. Confused about what you’re supposed to take away from this music. Bad. Musical. Decisions.

So... what does that leave you with for the music in season 2?

A mess of 1960′s music and clunky ‘on-the-nose’ music choices, which may or may not clash with the established musical identities of the characters and all clumsily tied together with a struggling OST for the musically confused ears of the audience.

Tldr; Season 1 was a musical masterpiece. The Season 2 music never even had a chance.

Riven x Musa

Ok, so I keep seeing posts everywhere that basically badmouth S8 and after seeing ten seconds of the trailer (YIKES to the animation, what’s wrong with the industry that they are making everything anime? Powerpuff Gen Z, I’m looking at you – obs: I didn’t watch it fully yet) I can see where some of the criticism is coming from but anyways…

My favorite Winx!couple EVER has always been Musa x Riven since I was kid and first watched the show (Netflix is not helping ‘cause I ship them even there).

I remember yawning at Bloom/Sky, rolling my eyes at Stella/Brandom and making a completely incredulous expression that I could literally feel forming on my face at Helia/Flora (can anyone say ‘unrealistic’?). Timmy/Tecna are a second favorite.

And why my Winx OTP are Riven x Musa followed after Timmy x Tecna? Because it reflects real life. In real life you’re not gonna stumble into people whose real and deep relationship problems are solved in twenty four minutes (not even that considering that some episodes present the “problem” half-way through said 24 minute-episode).

The breakup between Riven and Musa in S6 (spoilers everywhere after all) was one of the most mature breakups in the history of breakups with the hope for the future (yes, I’m completely ignoring S7, sue me, the whole thing was one huge filler anyways). And, after reading a lot of opinions on both ends (defending Musa/attacking Riven and defending Riven/attacking Musa) and watching the episodes in question (reuniting through reconciling) I think I can give my own analysis.

Since Musa AND Riven (individually and as couple) are my favorite characters in Winx, I think I CAN give a fairly unbiased view (hopefully).

*clears throat*

Ok, keep in mind that I’m defending BOTH of them, because I ship them too hard not to.

Musa Being OC (sometimes being called ‘brat’): C'mon, people! Musa and Tecna are OC since S4 anyways, where are the tomboy and the nerd? With the sneakers, T-shirt and comfortable-looking clothes? Noooo, now they all need neat skirts and hot pink high heels and long, glamorous hair. Do they look good? Of course, but and I would totally be less pissed if there was ANY indication on the reason for the change. Are they just maturing? Expressing themselves differently? Crowd mentality? Tune and Stella finally broke Musa down and Tecna followed soon after? Was it just to please Riven and Timmy? ANYTHING (even the 'pleasing a boy’ would at least be A reason - a ridiculous one that would piss me off, but A reason none the less), was just a sudden impulse that took?

Sure, we can talk about “character growth” until we are blue in the face, but the matter of the fact is that there was none.

The changes we see in Musa and Tecna are basically the creators making them more like the rest of the Winx (I’m including Aisha in this too, where is the sporty girl that matched the boy’s interest in extreme sports? C'mon! Even Bloom and her Girl Next Door looks are replaced with Bratz and Clueless-level of outfits).

Is anyone really going to look me in the eye and say Stella wasn’t a shallow (if friendly and good-natured) Mean Girl? She got better, but as I re-watch the show (currently in S3, meaning almost half-way through the content), Stella still worries more about her hair than anything else even while under literal fire.

More and more, Musa, Tecna and Aisha are losing their identities and what made them, IMO, the more badass Winx.

How did the two on the left went from this…

… to this:

Yeah, yeah, Musa still sings, Tecna still technobabble and Aisha is still a Warrior Princess but Aisha was the first one to go Bloom and Stella on us with Musa and then Tecna following soon after. It’s not just their clothing style, it’s the way they carried themselves too.

Right now? The only thing keeping them apart is their BF blues (different kind of blues) and some personal interests (singing, shopping, tech, the whole drama with Domino/Sparks, etc). But that’s IT, their personalities are going down the drain!

Sorry for the long-winded text, but the reason I’m expressing my disappointment at their change is because Musa’s reaction fits it. S6 we have such an AMAZING breakup (didn’t even think that was possible, WTH, right? Amazing breakup?) only for her to be mad as hell at Riven at S8? Bad writing, that has been dragging her (and the rest of the Winx) down to becoming just one unilateral, shallow character (the Specialists are also falling into that pit, what in the world did they do Helia in S8? He sounds like Thor telling about his “brave exploits” there, yikes). And continuity what? What continuity? Do they even remember how the breakup was written?

But ok, let’s put the Audience View aside for a moment and focus only on the In-Universe terms.

S6: You’ll always be my hero.

S8: What on EARTH are you doing here. 

I laughed a bit, the contrast just got to me but instead of getting mad at one or the other like most of the fandom, I laughed.

Musa followed that by saying that Riven has not maintained contact and just in that I would be beyond pissed as well and giving my support to Musa. WTH, Riven? I think that each season is more less six months to a year? Sort of? Still, zero contact for so long even after ending on amicable terms and wanting to stay friends? And he went off on his own! A text now going, “I’m not dead” would be the bare basics for Musa not to worry herself bald!

BUT then I also read comments about how this was a two-way street, why didn’t Musa call either? That’s unfortunately something that I very much doubt will ever be explained. One of those: did it or didn’t it? Musa could have called and went straight to voicemail with no signs of life from Riven or she might not have called and just expected him to call as if feminism were dead and all initiative must come from the guy (which doesn’t even fit because they parted as friends).

Since we have no info on the above, I put it on both of them. It’s not fair to say, “HE should have called!” or “Why didn’t SHE call?” because we don’t have fricking context. So the only thing we can take is: no contact.

BECAUSE I put the lack of contact on both of them, Musa’s reaction was a little too much, however, Riven shows up all smirks and leaning against a tree with his arms crossed and I would have flashbacks to S1 if it wasn’t for the animation style that made all the guys look like girls. Dude! Not the time for that kind of posture. Not saying that he should be all sheepish and rubbing his arm as if he had done something horrible (again: we don’t have context on the no contact) but a more neutral approach was warranted here. Nobody does themselves any favors with that kind of attitude no matter what how high of a horse they may be (rightly or not) riding on, if anything I would react like Musa solely on that one.

Next episode we have that Riven convinced the guys to follow the girls in some mission and Musa was angry. Again: I would be too. WTH? Yes, yes, they helped and if it wasn’t for them, the Winx would gotten seriously injured but Musa did have a point saying that this demonstrated that they had no trust in them and need their hand held, it was no sanctioned mission like on Earth after all. BUT, Riven does something that I would never expect from in S1-4: he explains, he reasons it, he puts it in all the words that he does trust Musa and co and that he only wanted to show that he’d be there for her (you know? One of the main issues in S6 that made them breakup in the first place? His inability to conciliate Specialist work with supporting his girlfriend and ultimately failing or feeling like failing in both?) and Musa still pouts, crosses her arms, and turns around. Geez. I expected that one from Stella, not Musa. I think the closest Musa has ever come to THIS was back in S2 when Jared explains that Riven was the one to recommend that he interview Musa and yada yada yada and she got mad and stomped off on the poor guy that didn’t even understand what was going on (only to immediately apologize to Jared and recognizing that it wasn’t him that she was mad at… like I said: what character growth?).

Riven then goes to show that he indeed grew when he asked for advice from Sky and Brandon (WTH, right? Can we picture that happening back in S1-3? He very grudgingly would LISTEN to UNSOLICITED advice from Nabu and Helia in S4-6). And does a very, very goofy and embarrassing show of affection. Yeah… again… I can picture Stella loving the light show with her face for IDK how many people to see but not Musa (although can we really blame the guy after the series went out of its way to make Musa all Stella-like? Clothes, attitude, the only thing missing is making Riven carry her shopping bags around and call him “Shnookums” (although the mental image is already enough for me to fall over laughing, just for the face Riven would make). Still, I have to count that one against Riven if only because (as much as the show gives only lip service to it) Musa isn’t Stella.

Riven being mind controlled (again) aside, those two are back together. And on the overall? Riven showed more growth than any other character in the show COMBINED (he is the Zuko of the show), that doesn’t go to say that he didn’t make mistakes since coming back in S8 (but that was more a guy trying to win back a girl than… betraying his friends for a pair of nice legs or… IDEK like in S1 – where, mind control or not the show itself made sure to make it clear that he had free will) or that he is now the one out of Musa’s league. I think that NOW it can actually work… if the show allows him to keep the progress, Musa is the next to see her flaws and work on them (which she showed to be able to do since S2) and put effort in the relationship. The difference between them is that Musa can actually work on herself and the relationship at the same time. That’s not me saying she is better than Riven in any way, everybody has their own pace and their own way to cope, to improve and to self-reflect.

I still root for them.

PS-IDK why, but I read posts about how Riven changed so much and posts about how all his progress disappeared and he is now back to his S1 attitude and I’m just cofused. Yeah, different of opinions and so on, but such opposite opinions on the subject of a guy whose relationship was focused on three episodes?

Top 10 Favorite Female Characters

Happy International Women’s Day everyone! For many years now, there have been a lot of strides made in women’s rights. It’s still far, FAR from perfect, but we’ve still made many strides and fiction is no exception. So I thought, in celebration of today, I’d talk about some of my favorite female characters of all time. I had a LOT of options and narrowing it down was tough, but I think I made a pretty good list. So let's get on with it~

10. Kimberly Hart/The Pink Ranger (Power Rangers)

I don’t talk about Power Rangers a lot on here, but let me tell you all. Kimberly is one of the first female superheroes I ever saw, and I love her so much. She begins as a one-dimensional valley girl type, though still a good-hearted person. She’s the token girly-girl while Trini was more of the token tomboy. But Kimberly over time developed form being the least willing to be a Ranger, to devoting herself full-heartedly to her duties. She could kick just as much ass as her fellow rangers, and look pretty while she did so.

Kim was a fantastic character, especially in a boy-aimed tokusatsu adaptation. There have been many other great Pink Rangers since her time. Heck my actual favorite Pink Ranger of all time is Jen from Time Force. But the reason Kim is on here and not here? Kim is the one who started it all. She and Trini defined kickass female Rangers and none of the ones we have now would have existed without the original ladies. And as much as I also liked Trini.. well... I think that Kim is the clear stand-out among most female rangers, especially since she lasted so long. I was so sad when she left and especially how Zeo screwed her character over with that stupid Dear John letter to Tommy as well as how the 2017 movie wrote her because it just made her incredibly unsympathetic and unlikeable. But she left one Hell of a legacy and I love her.

9. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)

Despite my feelings about the author in recent years, Harry Potter is still a series I grew up on and love. Albeit I’m one of the few who got into the films more than the books, but still. The one thing that got me into the series? Hermione. She begins as a bit of a snooty know-it-all, always rubbing her knowledge int he faces of others and coming off as kind of a brat. But we soon see that she really doesn't know how to make friends and is a serious student and good person. Once Harry and Ron befriend her, we see how much of a brave, loyal, and determined girl she is, using her brains and talent in academics to get all the info they need. They would have died multiple times without this girl.

Hermione is someone we grow up with and kind of the representative of young girls. We watch her as she struggles with her status as a Muggle-born witch, how her pursuit of knowledge can overwhelm her, and of course what happens when she realizes her feelings for Ron. I... am not a huge fan of the pairing for many reasons, but her frustration and struggle feel very real. She makes mistakes, some more called out than others, but she does genuinely strive to do good And through it all, she is loyal to Harry and to the fight against Voldemort, growing to be proud of who she is and of her heritage as a ‘mudblood’. Even n the final book, where she’s forced to erase her parents memories to protect them, Ron abandoning her and Harry, and getting tortured by Bellatrix, none of it stops her from fighting for what she believes in.

Looking back now, Hermione has her problems both in the books and the films. Some of Ron's better moments got lost because the writer favored her which I can see whyt hat annoyed many people (I’m not one of them, but still), and the whole House Elf plot in the book has some... not great implications. But it doesn't stop Hermione from being a strong female character who is intelligent, brave, and Emma Watson’s strong performance really helped bring her to life. She ain’t perfect, but I still grew up watching her and I will always be grateful for that fact.

8. April O’Neil (TMNT 2012)

Screw the people who hated on her, April is awesome!

Really April in any incarnation of the Turtles is awesome. 2k3, Rise, the films. heck despite her being kidnapped every episode, even OT April was determined as Hell and you wouldn’t get in her way! But since I’m only picking one here, I gotta go with her 2k12 self. Her 2k3 self is also a close contender, but this was the version I spent the most time watching and for any of you who have follow me long enough knows, I spent a LOOOOT of time defending her from ship haters.

Looking back now, yeah there are some problems. Her limited screentime in S1, some of the Kraang stuff got rushed/crammed in, her missing mom story went nowhere, her being Donnie’s love interest. there’s plenty of problems. But those are more story issues than actual character issues. The last one especially si more an issue with Donnie’s character than April since she herself was NEVER defined by the ‘love interest’ card. She never existed for that purpose, and it shows especially by the end.

April began as a helpless, but very determined girl hoping to save her father after their abduction in which only she got saved. She spends most of her time getting intel for the Turtles while undergoing training from Splinter. She slowly, but gradually, grows into a capable kunoichi who can hold her own and gradually becomes an equal to her reptilian companions. She’s friendly, takes shit from no one, and she is probably the biggest Determinator in the entire series where ven when utterly helpless, she will STILL be defiant until the bitter end. he goes through Hell, and every single time she finds a way to pull herself together and forge on.

Despite how I fell off the series by the end, I was very happy with where April ended. From a girl just wanting her life back, to accepting her reality and making it her own. She trains herself in both ninjutsu and her new psychic abilities and becomes a kunoichi in her own right with them. She was even able to hold her own against Shredder! This girl became a badass and while there are issues here and there, I think she by far had some of the best development in the series. She remains my favorite character in 2012, y favorite April, and she has more than earned her spot on this list.

7. Avatar Korra (The Legend of Korra)

Another character who got unnecessary hate! Oh wait, that happens to every female character ever. Silly me!

Korra is what made LoK so great to me. She is a bull-headed, somewhat arrogant girl who has devoted her entire life to being the Avatar. She is the anti-Aang, so much so that she is terrible at Air Bending. But she’s also a very determined girl and went to Republic City to make Tenzin train her. Over the course of the series, we see how despite her arrogance, she is a good person who is truly devoted to her duty and genuinely wants to protect everyone. But she’s faced with her own vulnerabilities and flaws as a person as she has to learn to allow others to help/guide her and learn from her mistakes. And HO BOY does she make MANY mistakes.

Over four seasons, we watch Korra grow.  She’s faced with the fact that she is vulnerable in S1 and while she doesn't fully overcome it, she does so enough to face Amon despite knowing what’ll happen to her. In S2, she faces the worse of herself but in doign so, truly improves herself and puts things right while letting go of most of her arrogance. S3 has her a much more well-rounded person trying to do what’s right, but it ended in her torture, poisoning, and she is just broken by the end. S4 has her slow recovery both physically and mentally and the road is long, hard, and just painful. But by the end, she accepts what happened and is able to find the balance to restore her power, return to her duties, and save the world from utter calamity.

I related so uch to Korra, moreso than I did Aang. She got a lot fo hate for her attitude and... well, not being Aang. But she grew so much and I loved how much of a badass and fully layered character she was. Yeah, she wasn’t Aang, that was a good thing. I loved her form the beginning, and I loved her even more by the end. She’s a great example of a female protagonist and shows that yes, a female action heroine CAN work. The Avatar franchise has many outstanding female characters (Katara, Toph, Suki, Azula, Asami, Jinora, Kuvira) but to me, Korra beats them all and I love her.

6. Wonder Woman

Well I couldn’t leave off the most well-known female superhero of all time now, could I?

Wondy is awesome. I first saw her on Superfriends back when Cartoon Network reran it. While it is a super campy show, Wondy was a true hero who stood equal to her male companions and was just as capable of saving the day as them. She was pretty much the only main female, so of course she was the one I was drawn to and I loved seeing her in action. But she could fall into the Damsel in Distress role cause... well, girl and lie I said, Superfriends is super campy. But I took what I could get int hose days!

Fortunately, Wondy has had much better media rep since... and in fact before with the Lynda Carter series. I hadn’t seent hat when I was a kid and while it’s cheesy, Wondy was still a badass there who easily held her own. Her Justice League DCAU self was when I really fell in love with her. Kind, beautiful, righteous, and an utter powerhouse. Seriously, I think she kicked more ass than anyone in both the original and Unlimited series. She has two animated DC films, which are both pretty dang good. Bloody, but good!

But of course, we have the Gal Gadot film. This was the film that arguably has saved the DC Cinematic Universe, and for good reason. While I’m not a big fan of Wondy being a demigod, she still showed why he’s so good. She’s a true hero wanting to do good, and in a setting like World War One, that is hard to find. She’s caring, devoted, strong, and is just a shining example of a true hero. She inspires hope in a cinematic universe that thrived off of grittiness, and Thank God we have her. I can only hope that the sequel holds the same quality, but nothing will take this away.

Wonder Woman is awesome. They screw her up sometimes, both ina nd out of comics. But there is no doubt that she earned her spot as a beloved feminist icon, as well as her spot here on this list.

#5. Kim Possible

You do not know how obsessed with this show I used to be. It is probably my all-time favorite Disney animated series of all time. Why? Because of it’s clever writing, fun humor, great action, and of course it’s characters. Kim especially.

She is the girl who can do anything, and she lives up to that claim. She’s a cheerleader by day, crime fighter by night, and she handles those worlds flawlessly... for the most part. She’s tough, smart, and a badass who uses her cheerleading skills to aid in her crime-fighting. She faces mad scientists, monsters, and everything in between and she ALWAYS comes out on top. 

She’s now flawless, mind you. She’s bossy, smug, and can over-react when she faces things that she can’t do such as cooking or.. really anything normal/standard teen problems. She’s especially bad at maintaining dates. But whenever she faces a problem, she finds a way tog et through it whether it be with help from Ron, or finding her own way in solving it. She doesn't cry or mope about things like... well, the live-action film has her do. No, she gets up and finds solutions while still saving the day in the process. That is what makes her great, she’s a character before she’s a girl. Hence why she is a great female protagonist 

Kim is someone I strived to be like when I got that age... with varying success. But hey, it just proves that Kim Possible can indeed do anything. Call her, beep her if you wanna reach her, and she’ll be there. just like how she’s here for this spot.

4. Ruby Rose (RWBY)

MY DAUGHTER!

When I first got into RWBY, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the first character I fell in love with? Little Red here! I adore this girl to pieces. She gets a lot of flack form some for being ‘flat’ and ‘underdeveloped’ and I don’t have time to go into every reason why that’s not true. You can read this for some examples of why shes awesome. But let me summarize the gist of it as best as I can.

Ruby is a teenaged girl striving to be a Huntress like her mother, wanting to do good in the world like the heroes in her storybooks. Over time, as he overcomes her own flaws and the burdens of leadership, she learns how colossal of a task doing good truly is in a world that is harsh and cruel. She loses friends, her school gets broken apart, and the world seems to become more and more divided. And she’s right int he middle of it. So what does she do?

She gets up and continues on.

She decides to fight because she wants to help. She wants to make the world a better place because that is what a Huntress is supposed to do. She puts aside her own feelings in hopes that she can help do something. Even as she is pulled more and more into the true realities of her world, she stands firm and continues on. And when everyone else seems broken and on the verge of quitting? She grabs the reigns and pushes everyone forward herself.

Ruby may be a somewhat standard protagonist, but her determination and quirkiness help her stand out. She’s goofy, naive, and a socially awkward klutz. But she’s still a good-hearted person who always tries and in a world full fo monsters that thrive on despair, this is a very admirable trait. She’s gone from a girl afraid of being viewed as special, to taking the lead int he war against Salem all because it is her duty as a Huntress to protect everyone. She inspires those around her and also inspires me. She’s what got me to stay with this show, and I have yet to regret it.

RWBY has MANY great female characters. Weiss, Blake, Yang, Maria, Nora, Penny, Winter, and many others. But Ruby was always going to be my first pick. What can I say? I adore this girl~

3. Blossom (The Powerpuff Girls)

The Powerpuff girls was, and remains, my favorite cartoon of all time It was funny, action-packed, great characters, and great animation. I adore all three of the girls. Bubbles is cute but certianly no pushover, and Buttercup can be a jerk but she kicks a LOT of ass. But the one who I always loved the most was the commander and leader of the group, Blossom.

Blossom is the most mature of the girls, being very intelligent for her age. She’s smart, confident, and a natural leader. She’s also rather bossy, full of herself, and can be obnoxious at times with her egg-headed nature. From what I can tell, she was the leat liked... which sucks for me. I loved Blossom because of how smart she was and because of how good of a leader she was. Sure she had the occasional slip, but she was usually fairly reasonable, strategic, and always tried to look after her sisters and break up their spats.

I still remember the episode that made me love her. It was Princess’ introductory episode. In it, Blossom tried her best to be as reasonable with her as she could, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt since she was new and probably didn’t know how to make friends. It especially makes since if you’ve seen the movie and know how much the girls themselves struggled. But once it became clear that Princess really was a despicable little brat and she pounded her sisters, Blossom was pissed but still calm unlike the other two. Due to this, she easily thrashed Princess, destroyed her power suit, and gave her the mother of all The Reason You Suck speeches, telling her what being a hero truly means and how she’s nothing but a spoiled brat. It remains of my favorite PPG moments ever and after how much Blossom tried to give her a chance, it was very deserved.

Sadly, Blossom hasn’t gotten the best rep in other incarnations. Her PPGZ self while fine... wasn’t Blossom. Like... at all. And the less said about the 2016 series the better. Still, I remember how much I looked up to the original Blossom and enjoyed seeing her kick butt every Friday. I even still have one of my old dolls that I cherish to this day. Allt he Powerpuffs are great, and I will love them forever.

2. Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)

Speaking of childhood heroines!

Ah Sailor Moon, We’ve had a long history, you and I. The first show I ever kept up with. The first fandom I ever got into. The first anime I ever got into. nd of course, the first heroine I ever truly loved.

Usagi (well... Serena when I was a kid, as the 90′s) is someone I still hold close to my heart. She is a klutz, crybaby, and far from an ideal heroine. She can be rather immature and at times selfish, preferring to sleep or eat sweets than worry about her Sailor Senshi duties. But as he grows, we see that through it all, she is a pure, caring young girl. I think the manga/Crystal anime did a MUCH better job at portraying that side to her, though the 90′s anime presented her more heroic side as well. They just sometimes forgot that he was past being a crybaby...

Usagi loves everyone. Her lover Mamoru, her fellow Senshi, just everyone. She doesn’t like fighting, but she will if she has to. She goes from crying in the middle of fights to being able to face God-like entities with just a magic crystal. Despite not having wanted to be a Senshi to begin with, she accepts her destiny and tries to save everyone, even her enemies. It just shows how despite her flaws as a person, she is a true hero who can always be relied on.

Sailor Moon did a lot when it came out. it helped revolutionize the Magical Girl genre, helped give anime a standing in America, and showed how femininity is not a weakness. There’s many other great female characters (Ami, Rei, Makoto, Minako) and all are their own character. But Usagi has always been the one I loved most and so she claims the Number Two spot.

1. Mulan

Yeah, this probably shocks no one. I’ve talked about Mulan like... a billion times by now. But there was no other option for me.

Mulan is my favorite movie of all time, and the title character is my favorite character of all time. She’s a young woman who wants to bring her family honor, but struggles to do so in the ways she’s expected. She goes to war in her father’s place to save his life, and she struggles even more. She’s someone who doubts and is ashamed of herself, but over time she decides that she’s done hating her refection and tries to prove her worth. She not only becomes a better soldier and earns the respect of everyone around her, but even after she’s unmasked, she goes on to save all of freakin’ China! The whole country, including the freakin’ Emperor, bows before her because of this. You do not get more respect than that.

I’ve only grown to love and relate more to this story as I’ve grown older. I’ve learned to not define myself by society expectations, but just as who I am. Mulan struggles with expectations, family, warn, and most of all her own insecurities. She wants to see something worthwhile when she looks into the mirror, but she always just feels shame. But by the end, she puts it aside and becomes the best version of herself. She returns home with more than enough to honor her family... and her father tosses it aside to hug her. He’s just grateful to have her home, the greatest girl and honor. She’s someone who we watch grow and her journey hold sup even today. Argubaly even moreso.

Mulan was a film that changed me. Shaped my beliefs and values into what they are now. Even today, I see it as a flawless movie, and Mulan a flawless heroine. he’s a perfect example of a female protagonist, or heck just a protagonist in general. I love her and because of how much she shaped my five-year-old self into who I am now, se is my favorite female character of all time.

Clip 1 - Silvia spills the beans

Skam Italia being educational, kinda! I’m going to try out this headache technique. 

According to the subs I found, Sana’s janitor told her about it? … her housekeeper? That’s probably closer to what it was but I just like the idea of Sana going around striking up conversations with janitors.

But another version of the subs didn’t have that part at all so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dear Lord, Silvia, chill the hell out. Someone sitting in someone else’s car doesn’t mean they’re dating. Although lmao, Eva and Noora could have stood to learn that in season 2.

Actually, I do get how Silvia would be upset? She’s really jumping the gun but Edoardo just treated her like crap in front of people. I would probably be a little hurt that my friend was maybe hanging out with someone who hurt me. The problem with Silvia is that her motivation is less, “Eva, how could you associate with someone who’s treated me like garbage?” and more, “Eva, what were you doing with my mans???”

Evaaaaa, why did you trade that completely obvious look with Eleonora??? Just make it seem the most suspicious you can. I mean, if you don’t want to spill the whole truth about Edoardo digging for info on Eleonora, you can literally say “I studied for my exam in the car and he asked me about it” and technically that’s not a lie.

The flashbacks with Eva and Laura were pretty cute. Aesthetic hair-braiding!

I do like Sana immediately being like “lol why would you trust Laura” and bringing up the water throwing incident as a sort of logical evidence why Laura isn’t the greatest, as opposed to Vilde/Silvia saying something dumb and Islamophobic and Sana having to mention the water incident as proof of her loyalty.  Also Silvia looks humbled by Sana mentioning she was defending Silvia’s honor. 

Sana asking Silvia whether she has to meet her mother was a nice way of calming the situation for Eva’s sake while getting Silvia to leave before the problem can escalate. It was thoughtful for Silvia, too, as it gave her a chance to escape instead of digging the hole deeper.

I'm glad that the Edoardo lift had more plot relevance than just ship teasing (multi-tasking is A+) and I think that it’s good to illustrate how much it would break Eva is to lose a friend again. Her offering to let Silvia listen to the message she left Martino as proof is rather heartbreaking in its desperation. On the other hand, I don’t know how I feel about the emotional impact of this scene having to be more about poor Eva weeping and having to beg Silvia for forgiveness over something that was ultimately trivial and meant nothing, and that we as the audience know meant nothing, rather than Eva dealing with the guilt that she’s been carrying around for months over destroying her relationship with her best friend. That is the Big Secret Eva has been hiding from both her new friends and the audience so it probably needs more focus (which to be fair, is elaborated on in the bathroom scene later).

I saw some talk of how people thought it was an improvement that Silvia didn’t call Eva a slut, and while of course it’s nice that she didn’t do so, I don’t get why it’s better for Silvia not to call Eva a slut in this version since Noora directly confronts Vilde about it in the moment, it’s not like it was this casual misogyny in the show that went unaddressed. That was the point, it was a teachable moment. It’s certainly not worse that the moment wasn’t there, I just think it’s more about how it’s handled than anything else. (Also, I mean … Vilde being a jerk was specifically a tip off that something was going on with her.) 

Clip 2 - Eva talks to a friendly serpent

Martino knows all the school drama and social scene. It is pretty damn shady of him to be like oh yeah, they didn’t invite you because that girl whose boyfriend you kissed, her friend is organizing it, when he is responsible for the apparent non-invite in the first place, or so he would think. But he’s so casual about it. Not much guilt when he tells her that. Maaaaybe a little more when she starts to tell him about what she’s dealing with at school? IDK.

Eva sounds less angry or frustrated, more defeated.

I’m still wondering what her arc is going to be? Because there isn’t that pressing question of “who are you?” and her not having her own identity, it’s like … I guess she’s questioning whether she’s become a bad person? Sort of? She has Silvia making assumptions about her being a bad person, Laura thinks she is a bad person based on events that really happened, and Gio is questioning why she hangs around with bad people. That could be an area to explore in terms of her relationship with Laura but I’m not all that sure how it would play regarding her and Gio since Gio has made many of the same mistakes she has, he can’t exactly talk.

Martino trying to pull some reverse psychology is cute because he can’t quite keep a straight face. 

Sucks that this friendship is about to go down the toilet!

Clip 3 - Eva and the older girls

Heh, this angsty song gets cut off as soon as we establish that Maria does not give a crap who Eva is.

I always enjoy this scene and this advice. It’s one of the most underrated parts of season 1. These girls didn’t seem as invested as giving Eva some friendly advice but again, love that they get interested in their own sexual exploits rather than Eva’s and she ends up just walking away.

It’s nice that there was a totally logical, boring reason they didn’t get invites though how were they planning to invite everyone else once they stopped on Facebook? Word of mouth?

Mmm, I don’t know if I totally buy that Alice’s BFF doesn’t give a shit at all who Eva is? Of course her maturity is nice, and I can certainly buy that she doesn’t care enough to keep Eva from being invited to the party, but Alice got in a physical fight with this girl because she was that upset. . Like who were those girls accompanying Alice in the fight if not her friends? (At first they seemed like they wanted to hold Alice back but by the end it seemed like they were fighting as well.)

I think I’d have preferred if Maria was like, “Just between you and me, Federico is a fuckboy and I’m glad Alice can see the truth now,” or “I don’t like that my best friend was hurt, but I’m not petty enough to keep you off the list” or “I love Alice but she overreacts to everything and makes a lot of drama.” Or just some explanation for her total lack of fucks. The older Norwegian girls weren’t like, Iben’s best friends, correct? They weren’t even in the same grade? Maria has her BFF involved.

Clip 4 - Hippogriff

Fede, teach me your ways of absorbing information just as Sana showed us how to get rid of headaches.

Sana having an uncharacteristically soft moment and trying to deny it. She’s been really blunt with Silvia but their relationship has been all about helping Silvia with no apparent gain for Sana, except friendship.

Also she’s very reluctant to spread rumors, like this Sana goes from hard to soft pretty fast.

Federico and Laura leaving the men’s bathroom together sure adds a layer to Edoardo’s comment about Silvia hanging around the boy’s bathroom! That is just a thing these characters do, hook up in bathrooms. In S3 Martino can just wander into any men’s bathroom and find a girl to pretend to like.

Clip 5 - Eva and Laura and Alice

Nice use of music with the tense beat going as Eva drags off Laura, then it cuts off abruptly as Eva is about to get real and vulnerable.

This is easily the best acting Italian Eva has done so far. There have been a few “emotional” scenes where I thought she seemed too theatrical and not natural for the material but this was very good. I almost wanted them to stretch it out longer, as in the original, so we could get more of this performance.

And I’m pretty sure Laura was crying too by the end, which is very touching. I do think it’s one of S1’s best aspects how the Ingrid/Laura is not the villain, is actually the wronged party, but that she and Eva are able to come to a peaceful resolution.

It’s pretty sad that Eva made that little attempt at a wave back in the first clip. She really missed Laura.

Ha, I didn’t care for that Alice intro, though! Seeing her come up in the hallway definitely distracted from this intense, emotional acting between Eva and Laura. Especially because the moving music keeps going as she’s spying on them, and only cuts off when she throws her books down. I think it would’ve been more effective to keep the Eva-Laura shots going and keep us really engrossed in their dialogue, and then when Laura mentions Fede, suddenly cut to Alice standing like right there in the doorway and cut off the music, for a true jolt and change in the scene’s energy.

Alice’s actress looks so defeated as she realizes what a piece of shit her boyfriend is. And it’s nice that she apologizes and asks how Eva is doing. You know, before she inadvertently reveals Eva has been betrayed by a good friend.

“He looks like he cares about you” does that mean Martino looked pained when he told Alice about Eva and Fede? Boyyyy, why did you do such a stupid thing? (I know why, it’s still stupid.)

General Comments:

This has been a solid remake and overall they’re handling Eva’s emotional turmoil well. The point I’m wondering about is what Eva’s ultimate conclusion/personal statement is going to be since they’ve left out a lot of the questioning of her identity and insinuations that she is a follower not making her own choices. Season one’s strength lay a lot in that finale so I hope they have something cohesive for her character.

Let’s answer this

If someone asked me RIGHT NOW “Where are you in terms of UtaPri and the fandom?” That is arguably the most complicated question I would ever have to answer...and I took World Culture in High School!

Okay let’s be serious UtaPri is legit one of the few franchises that tests me mentally in the sense of Figuring out Broccoli’s next move with Merch What they could do gamewise What is going to happen with the Anime Information on other projects (Shining Masterpiece/Theater ,DVDs ,Stage shows etc.) What the next step in the universe would be as a whole with the different units and COULD THEY CREATE MORE...I never discussed this one but its something I had been thinking about Its also one of the few that has allowed me to mess with the Canon and treat groups that might not have been treated fairly and write them in ways that I enjoy...matter of fact SPOILER TIME but one of the next fic works coming this month is my yearly Birthday concert but with a twist that you’ll see for the first time when the birthday comes up. It HAS also been one of the more frustrating fandoms lately that I have been in/dealt with and I’m not going to bullshit it anymore. History Lesson So back in 2013 (and more specifically near the end of it I discovered a gif of one of the characters from the series...at the time I had no idea who it was and ,if you remember, Tumblr made an update that hid the tags unless you went in the post on a person’s blog (generally the OP) and found out what it was.  In this case it was Ren Jingugji of STARISH whom I found out was voiced by Junichi Suwabe.  That name sounded familiar and I discovered he was in BroCon as the brother Kaname whom was a Monk (and also a womanizer...there’s a comho) (Also if I got the occupation for Kaname wrong I apologize.  I could have sworn that was his occupation but its been a while since I watched the series so forgive me on the mistake if there was one) Well after this discovery about UtaPri I went and looked it up on my favorite website (okay second...ANN is first anymore) in Wikipedia and I discovered it was a Otome/Visual Novel game and that intrigued me...what intrigued me more was researching some of the characters and at the time legit five intrigued me Natsuki Shinomiya of STARISH and the whole of QN QN was interesting because ,since I was just discovering UtaPri at this point, I knew jack about them...but I wanted to see what I could learn about them from observation/  Legit the ONLY SPOILER I retained at the time was that Ai was programmed with the memory of Aine or something of that effect...again its been a good while. Season 1 I watched through DVD and if you go through this blog you will see that I did two different blogs on that and Season 2.  When I did Season 2 that was through the site crunchyroll and I remember at the time I was talking with someone using the “Fan Mail” option (hey tumblr staff bring that back will ya...I actually liked that option) and before I got to Season 2 someone had told me about Camus.  The reason for this was because I mentioned (at the time) I despised Ren’s character for being a womanizing playboy that didn’t give a s**t about being an idol.  Now yes that was actually wrong but it was the thing I remembered from my first watch through (which was when the conversation with the tumblr user occurred). Before we discuss Season 2 you have to know this.  Because I knew at the time info would be readily available on the “initial 6″ (Cecil wasn’t in STARISH yet) legit the only one I remembered reading about was Natsuki and originally I thought I was going to enjoy his character...matter of fact for anyone that wants to know that doesn’t from S1 the “Best Boy” spot was something like this Tokiya (before Cecil has {BEEEEP]) Cecil And once the Season was rewatched it was Ren after realizing the crap he not only went through in Season 1 but then later in Season 2 HOWEVER Once Season 2 came about and QN was introduced anyone that knows me knows that my faves showed up in Ai and Camus (and also Ran)...Reiji I never could really embrace and I have TRIED!  Something about him I just can’t get with. (I know I know...I can’t deal with him but I have no issue with Myu right?  Yeah I’ve been working on that one for over 4 years and it ain’t easy) So Season 2 was ON FIRE! Legit all of the songs I could kind of embrace (I legit replayed Crystal Time all day for like 3 weeks straight if I remember...might have been shorter but it was a murderous loop trust me) and the story (for the most part) was a very light and funny tone from what I remembered.  Yeah there were the “heavy” moments but you didn’t want to have a nervous breakdown after the episodes ended...that was me in Season 4 when Episode 11 happened BUT ANYWAYS Season 2 was ALSO the introduction of the “Renegade Princes” in HEAVENS and around this time they were just a trio (June 6th would be the airdate and the “official” birthday of HEAVENS I guess?  I think some use the 27th of June so its funny) and I was like most people.  I wanted them to fall on their ass and never be seen again so we could get to the STARISH/QN part of the story (cos I legit watched the SSX OVA like 50 times and can damn near recite that fucker word for word if I remember scenes hard enough...I think it was the first time I saw Myu with glasses too!) Now here was the thing about HEAVENS AT FIRST I was like the fandom like “Look at these jackasses.  All they want to do is start shit and cause problems for STARISH so they need their ass beat” and well they did lose and I think I remember the first time being REALLY HAPPY about it but I think around the second time I THINK (and I would have to go back through my notes) I was less harsh on them.  I know by the time I got to their debut episode (and I finished it) a THIRD TIME I had no issues with them left...then again this might have been during the space between Season 3 and 4. Actually...yeah the third watch was between Season 3 and 4 cos I wanted to see how the “Original Trio” acted and then I would compare that with the “new boys” later.  If I remember right (cos I am trying to NOT rewrite history) when I first saw the “Fully Powered” HEAVENS The one I probably took the most issue with was Van (sorry @baku5ds) but it was because he reminded me of Ren from Season 1 and I wanted to deck his ass...still kind of want to punch him then for acting like a knob but he’s aight now! Season 4 was going to be an interesting time for me See before Season 4 started I remember asking people how they thought the season was going to go and they thought it would go like this HEAVENS would lose (well they were initially DQ’d so kind of right) and then it would be down to STARISH and QN with HEAVENS as background characters (which is what they were in Season 3 cos we didn’t see them again till the new 7 showed up). When we found out it was going to be duets between STARISH and HEAVENS it became interesting for me because remember this:  Because I watched legit the initial debut for the Trio (and their subsequent loss) twice a part of me wanted to see what Broc would do FOR THEM because I personally had kind of “been there/done that” with STARISH and I learned as much as I could for three seasons and dealing with their personalities...nothing wrong with that but after a while you need to interject new characters to freshen up a series. One thing I remember being asked was basically this “How can you like HEAVENS when you don’t know about them?” (That’s not the question verbatim but considering this question was on skype legit now over 2 years old I dunno if I can find it again) We have to remember that around the time of Season 2 (when I watched it) I legit only remembered Ai’s part of the wikipedia entry so...why should I have liked QN? I really DIDN’T read the STARISH part of the wikipedia entry so why have liked them? See the way I work as a fan is through observation and I see what I see and then make my judgements based on that.  I STILL think that the School staff was borderline antagonistic (all of them and that includes Shining) and when STARISH officially got to debut with Nanami as the composer I smiled cos in the end the “bad guys” (even if they really weren’t) “got theirs” What I got legit curious about was this during Season 4 Even if my opinion and a STARISH fan’s opinion on HEAVENS never matched up could we have that civil discussion to say “okay you don’t like them that’s cool but please respect that I do” We all know about the “3 weeks of hell” and I won’t relive those but those were the WORST 3 weeks of my life.  I legit think I damn near had a headache that lasted that entire stretch I was that annoyed cos I could legit see the story in front of me but everyone else was like “Nah fam...that ain’t true” then HEAVENS lost in the Triple S after their perseverance of dealing with “Daddy’s bulls**t” and I don’t know if I was more annoyed about that or the prior weeks with the “EiiOto Mess” and the rest of the duet project cos in my head I knew one part of the fandom would be THRILLED while the other would be annoyed...I think anyone that knows me knows where i was to the point someone made a stalk account on twitter to try and get on me...didn’t work cos I know how to block people! ANYWHO! I’m going to try and keep the rest of this brief af...I say try so we won’t go over 6th stage (and how I thought that was a trainwrck...maybe I was too harsh back then to be honest) but I do want to discuss this Whenever I hear (and others I know) that “HEAVENS’ role is only to make STARISH better” I half ass chuckle because if we are talking about groups to make STARISH BETTER well...there was QN and then STARISH was again kind of like “Nah fam” and we know what happened. I dunno that I am annoyed with the fanbase...matter of fact I can almost tell you flat out I’m not but if I had a gripe with the “Western/International” base it felt more like at times y’all didn’t want there TO BE fans of the “Renegade Princes” because I know a friend of mine made a VERY INNOCENT post when it came to Shining Live and HEAVENS and they asked “What would the HEAVENS fans want in Shining Live for them” and I remember the Anons and how they were kind of rude...not a good way to grow a fanbase kids. Let’s be clear on this and I’m going to try and make this brief I don’t hate STARISH nor their fans I don’t hate QN or their fans (obviously I am one) I’m more frustrated because you see when you are someone like me who IRL dealt with a lot of s**t and was an underdog his whole life I always root for them...I want to see that upset! I think I would have enjoyed STARISH’s story a bit more IF they showed that they could “take it on the chin” one time and then go “Okay we lost that round...let’s give it hell next time!” I know they technically COULDN’T do that with the story they were telling but don’t you think that Suwabe right?  He worked on KnB and he could have said “Well look...in this series my school beat the main school (Seirin) and then they came back eventually and beat us...couldn’t we do something like that?” Irony before anyone says anything is he ,SuzuKen ,Kishow ,OnoD ,to a lesser extent Shimono and Tatsun (might have been more...I think Toriumi was on Suwabe’s team) all knew what happened but I think because of certain issues they HAD to write UtaPri where STARISH was basically unstoppable...best guess It gets frustrating sometimes to be a fan of the series (less so for me now that I play on the JP account more full-time now) and you want...really all of the groups to do well but you know you really want your group to do well.  It also somewhat gets upsetting when you ask people “Would you watch a season that was just HEAVENS?” and then they tell you they would skip it...never mind that you watched effectively 2 full seasons of the “main group” but EYYY I dunno I think I get agitated and I know there are others that do too.  I would NEVER just turn my back on the franchise because I love it but I think I just wish that HEAVENS got repped well on this site and even facebook better than I feel like they do.  I think sometimes they will never get this “stigma” of being an “antagonist” off of them and that sucks...but for some people the “first impression is the one that lasts” so I can’t fault that anymore I guess In closing I don’t think I could ever leave UtaPri behind but all I want is what is best for my boys and hopefully their day is coming very soon Au Revoir!
