the pokedex is literally just the pokemon world's iNaturalist. it gets handed out to various 10 year olds and theyre sent to document pokemon because thats just what its like when youre 10 and have The Beasts type autism

#source: my own childhood #literally at age 10 on trips my dad would just give me a field guide of birds or local wildlife #and that was it i was set i was occupied i would have run off into the savannah if adults didnt stop me bc i would have been trampled #but if i had like a tame kudu next to me im confident that they would have just let me go free and look at animal #pokemon #made this post cause i saw a post abt the professors getting all thier research from kids and it ended up irritating me like its such an #annoyance of course they arent using 10 year olds for research its just data collection bitch #gives children who are interested in a field an opportunity to participate from a young age plus its ofc just a necessary gameplay mechanic
