Send me two names among the following 12 and I’ll write a short analysis post about them:
Taichi Yagami | Yamato Ishida | Sora Takenouchi | Koushirou Izumi | Mimi Tachikawa | Jyou Kidou | Takeru Takaishi | Hikari Yagami | Daisuke Motomiya | Miyako Inoue | Iori Hida | Ken Ichijouji
Whether canon provides input on them or not.
If there is one thing fandom - usually - unanimously agrees on, it's that Sora and Jyou are the mom and the dad of the squad. The responsible ones, the voices of reason to keep all the bickering, danger-seeking kids on their toes while having a piece of advice for all of them... Unfortunately, while they are naturally responsible, caring and kind people, their urge to take care of others used to be fueled by familial trauma and the idea that they simply HAVE to act out of obligation. It's a theme for both of them that gets handled in different yet similar ways - but I'm already getting ahead of myself.
Despite their parental status, Jyou and Sora unfortunately do not share a lot of screen time together. When thinking of them, there are usually three to four key moments that come to mind; most famously, there is their Bakemon adventure in which Sora tries to encourage Jyou to be the leader he thinks he has to be after being asked to do so by Gomamon - it's one of their first key scenes, because Jyou's persistence is what gets them out of a pinch eventually. And even though Sora was a little bit wary of Jyou's capabilities at first, her kindness, her belief in him get them that far in the first place. It's all mostly played for comic relief reasons - and so do a lot of their interactions in Adventure, oftentimes joined by Mimi, as the girls simply love to come together to tease Jyou at various points in the series.
So what we can tell - despite their presumably "adult" status in the group, they have a rather light-hearted bond that also allows them to be a little silly at times. On the other hand, we also learn that their sense of obligation is what drives them both towards their darkest moments... Jyou struggles with his sense of leadership and doesn't know his place at first, living to study to become a doctor to please his father - as opposed to Sora, who tries to rebel against her mother, not wanting to be reduced to become an iemoto, thinking that she's not even as kind as everyone assumes her to be. She feels responsible to save the world and is afraid of failure - just like Jyou is until he realizes that there are things only he can do. Even if he may not be the leader he thought he should be, even if becoming a doctor seems like a struggle, he understands that he has a choice to support in the best way he can - and it's this realization that helps him to become the senpai that Sora needed and, alongside Yamato, to pull Sora out of her own darkness. At least temporarily.
Because while Jyou does have his setbacks, he keeps pursuing to become a doctor, finding his own path alongside being a Chosen Child and senpai for everyone - despite having the reputation of always being busy. Meanwhile, Sora has various ups and downs on her way to figure herself out and struggles A LOT HARDER to juggle everything: her sense of femininity, whether she wants to maintain her group-mom status or pull herself back from everyone, whether she needs to abandon her self as a Chosen Child completely, whom she really loves, while also figuring out whether eventually becoming an iemoto was the right choice after all...
One cannot help but wonder: Maybe it would have helped Sora to stay in touch with Jyou more after all. In Tri, we still saw Jyou - as depicted above - being rather (physically) protective of Sora (once again, alongside Mimi), whereas Sora was the one texting Jyou about Gomamon while he was not around, thus still displaying the mutual care. But, at the point of Kizuna/The Beginning, we don't even know when they talked the last time...
Whether I think why and how they’d work.
I actually believe Jyou is among the most plausible partners for Sora - potentially at least. I really do believe that their personalities would match incredibly well once they've settled down a little - meaning, once Jyou has settled into his work-life for a while and Sora is at least a little bit closer to figuring out that she likes designing clothes more than arranging flowers. In sum - once they started to CHILL OUT a little bit more into adulthood, I feel like their mutually caring attitudes could result in a very loving, understanding relationship. Yes, they can both be stingy and pedantic and one might argue that they're actually too similar in this regard to really play off of each other romantically, to keep things exciting - but I still think that they need a lot of stability and assurance in their lives. Knowing that there is someone they can always rely on. Plus, they both tend to just naturally give advice and may be capable of, subconsciously, telling the other exactly what they need to hear in order to snap out of more negative tendencies.
Jyou in particular develops more healthy approaches towards his own limitations, he DOES become more relaxed and calm - and Sora seems to need a lot more validation than she was ever capable of admitting. And... Admittedly, even if they may only date for a while, I feel like that period alone could be incredibly assuring for both of them, feeling that mutual love and appreciation, still being wanted and needed. And even if they broke up at some point - I cannot ever see bad blood remaining between them. They would always, ALWAYS remain on friendly terms, because in my opinion, their natural kindness towards each other was NEVER out of obligation.
Whether I’d prefer them as platonic or romantic ship.
Generally, I'm thinking very fondly of Jyoura, they give a somewhat fuzzy, comfy feeling, even if their lack of interaction really bothers me. Initially, Sora used to be a character who had a bond with nearly EVERY Chosen Child, and her being slowly but steadily removed from the team really makes it hard to estimate her level of closeness to everyone. I do believe that they can be incredibly good for each other and I like to joke about them being in a little poly bond with Mimi, because at this point, I feel like Mimi is the connective element between them that could make a lot of things right. She is the extroverted force to their introverted tendencies and since they all adore each other a lot... Why shouldn't that work? That aside, I simply appreciate Jyoura as a dynamic, even though I don't actively ship them, I will always support anyone who does depict them, because it's usually in very loving, mutually supportive ways.

Kim Possible - Polish translation
Recently I started rewatching Kim Possible and I noticed a couple of differences in the translation.
First of all, the pun names:
Kim Possible - Kim Kolwiek (kimkolwiek means whoever/anybody) The original evokes a heroin that can do anything. The Polish translation implies that Kim is just an ordinary person and that anybody can do what she does. It goes very nicely with her attitude that all her awesome missions are just normal acts of human service like holding a door open for somebody. In the Polish version of the theme song, it gives a double meaning ''Daj mi znak, Kim Kolwiek''. It keeps the original meaning of calling her for help but it can also mean ''Daj mi znak, kimkolwiek'' as in, anybody can call for Kim in your name.
Ron Stoppable - Ross Rabiaka ( rozrabiaka means someone mischievous, doing naughty and funny jokes. It can be used to describe anybody but most often it's used to describe misbehaving boys at school. ) The original name implies that Ron is an unstoppable badass which is funny when he's being clumsy, and fitting when he does something cool. The Polish version focuses on his role as a comic relief.
Shego - Strzyga ( Strzyga is a Slavic monster. A Woman with bird-like claws who drinks blood. ) There's very little to say. Shego and Strzyga sound familiar. Shego is the bad guy and she looks as if she had claws.
Brick - Byk ( byk means bull ) Nothing special, a big strong animal that fits his jock archetype, starts with B and is short like the original.
Steve Barkin - Steve Pilnik ( pilnik means file) His original name Barkin, refers to him barking orders. Pilnik in Polish means file, as in the tool used to cut bars in a prison cell (at least in cartoons). There is also a Polish phrase ''piłować kogoś'' - ''file somebody'' which means that somebody, usually a teacher, is reprimanding somebody.
Monkey Fist - Małpi Pysk (Małpi Pysk means Monkey Face) Fist and pysk rhyme. Also, pysk is a derogatory way to say face. Pysk is used to refer to animal faces, like snout or muzzle.
Gil Moss/Gill - Lech/Leszcz ( Lech is an old Slavic/Polish name. Leszcz means bream, a type of fish. ) Fun fact, the most famous Lech is the legendary Prince who founded Gniezno, and by proxy the whole country of Poland. Ironically, leszcz is an insult used to refer to somebody who's bad at sports and is weak. Meanwhile, Gill even as a child was great at swimming, while Ron was the weak loser.
P.S. Gill is a cool character, with a great design, powers, and connection to Ron. It's too bad he was only in 2 episodes.
I'm watching now episode 12 Pain King vs Cleopatra.
Kim and Monique are talking in the cafeteria. In English, Kim talks about how the back of her skirt was caught in her underwear but in Polish, she talks about how her pants split. In English, she says she was saving a ''desert prince'' from a death squad but in Polish, she says was saving an Arab prince from terrorist attackers.
Ron comes in and offers Monique a thing called a Bear Claw? In the Polish version, they changed the bear claw into murzynek. Murzynek is a chocolate cake but it also means black boy.
Polish dubbers don't give a fuck! I don't know if it would fly today.
I Googled what bear claw (food) is and this is what I found.
In Polish the vacation plans change from spending time with wife and kids to going out fishing for a month. And the other wrestler says ''Take something for the mosquitos.'' instead ''That's charming.''.
The spell used to turn into a jackal monster is now Anubis, protector of every grave, make my hands and legs more powerful. (It rhymes in Polish.)
I wonder what translations from other countries are like.

ES Journeys Main Cast: Crystal the Vaporeon
Hello again everyone. I'm back again to talk about another one of the main cast of ES Journeys which for this post will be about Crystal.
Remember that the main thing you should know about my version of the cast is that they are supposed to be as closely accurate to how they were in the comic in terms of personality and backstory as possible while also changing things to improve them by adding, removing, or expanding things about them.
Now without further ado, here's Journeys Crystal.
(Note: Not everything is fully fleshed out. These are just the main ideas I have and am currently trying to flesh out)
Crystal Ah so now we're on Crystal the Vaporeon. She's known for many things like breaking the 4th wall, her dynamic with Silvia and Lazuli, shipped with Trace or Silvia (They're both fine, I'm fine with either), being the middle child in her family who has absolutely nothing to do with the Beserker Virus or the timeline junk, and just having literally nothing or doing anything to make her important.
Now I wanna go back to the last thing I listed for her as that bothered me and this doesn't just apply to her since others also barely did anything. As one of the 9 main characters in the comic you'd think she'd be relevant in someway seeing as she's 1) One of the main characters and 2) The sister to Speed and Flare who both have such significant roles because they're tied to the complex BS lores but guess what? She got nothing and is nothing more than comedic relief and a background character. I plan on changing that for ES Journeys.
Personality Crystal in ES Journeys has basically the same personality as her comic self. She's jolly, optimistic, and likes to be playful and pull pranks that are usually harmless but would get her and the team into trouble.
Crystal is considered to be the heart of the Eeveelution Squad team as she's the one who keeps everyone together with her positive attitude. Whenever the team is feeling down she's the one who cheers everyone up by either making them laugh or giving them encouragement. When the Eeveelution Squad began adding new members to the team she's always the one to help them feel welcomed and settled into the team.
While Crystal is usually happy being on the team, there are times where she gets questions her placement on it as she feels she's either holding the team back or isn't as special as the others, specifically Speed and Flare.
Crystal is sensitive when it comes to the topic of evolution due to her causing her younger brother, Flare to evolve into a Flareon by accident.
When it comes to doing battling and Contest, Crystal at first didn't take them seriously but after some time she started to get serious for different reasons for both sports (Which'll be explained later in the post). Crystal likes both sports a lot but likes Contest just a bit more.
Crystal likes to dance and draw.
Moves, Ability, and Battle Style Obviously Crystal in this AU is stronger than her comic self since this one actually fights while the other never did. As a Vaporeon she's a really good swimmer so she has an advantage if the arena is a body of water.
Crystal has a pretty generic battle style and she does some light taunting while in battle. While Speed focuses on strategy when it comes to battling, Crystal is all about unpredictability. The way she fights is she thinks outside of the box on how she can use her abilities in a way where her opponents or even her teammates don't understand what she's trying to do. Crystal sometimes implements dancing into her battles as a way to constantly keep moving around and dodge attacks or pull off the Countershield technique (Look it up, it's from the anime). Out of all the members of the Eeveelution Squad team, Crystal likes to Dynamax the most.
Crystal has a wide array of Water-Type moves as well as other Type moves. Her movelist and when they're learned: -Water Gun (TB) -Acid Armor (TB) -Tackle (TB) -Tail Whip (TB) -Body Slam (TB) -Bubble Beam (OI) -Hydro Pump (OI) -Whirlpool (GS) -Aqua Tail (RS) -Aqua Jet (DP) -Aurora Beam (DP) -Attract (XY) -Rain Dance (MJ) -Hydro Vortex (SM; Z-Move) -Acid Downpour (SM; Z-Move) -Max Strike (SWSH; Dynamax) -Max Geyser (SWSH; Dynamax) -Max Hailstorm (SWSH; Dynamax) -Max Ooze (SWSH; Dynamax)
Unlike her brothers, Speed and Flare who have their special Coastal abilities, Crystal sadly doesn't have one and has one of the two Vaporeon species abilities, Water Absorb. When Crystal has her body absorb the water around her she replenishes her energy so that she can keep fighting and using moves. Crystal can't use water that she's used for her moves to replenish her energy.
Crystal's Backstory Crystal hatched on February 15, 2000 and she hatched an hour after Speed did. She was brought into Sunny Town and lived in an orphanage with him and her unborn sibling. While she lived in the orphanage she played with the other kids and got along with everyone well while also getting herself into trouble with the mother occasionally. When Crystal reached the age of 3, the age of being able to attend school she wanted to go but Speed was against it so she got homeschooled which made her upset but she got over it.
Years go by as she grew up in the orphanage. During those years, Crystal has rarely left the orphanage due to Speed not wanting her or Flare going out because of Shade being around. Whenever Speed came back to the orphanage injured and was questioned about them he would assure everyone that it was nothing to worry about but Crystal would pester him about it as she thought he was hiding something but never got the truth out of him. One day, Flare had a sugar rush after eating too much chocolate and overwhelmed Speed and Crystal with his hyperness and ever since then, Crystal gets scared whenever she sees Flare eat chocolate. At some point she meets Trace when he came over to the orphanage and he instantly had a crush on her. She rarely saw him after that due to him meeting with Speed outside of the orphanage and when he is at the orphanage he drags him away from her.
In 2010, Speed tells her and Flare that their parents were dead after Trace told him which saddened them. A few months later she along with Speed and Flare watched a battle from the Indigo Plateau Conference on TV and when the mother explained what a competitive battling team is and does, Crystal thought it sounded cool and wanted to do it to which later when the three were in their room Speed said they'll do it when they're all old enough to be a team which gets her excited while Flare was hesitant but she manages to pressure him to come along.
In 2011, one day Speed and Crystal were in their room with the now Jolteon getting ready to leave and head over to Professor Robert's lab. Before he left he told Crystal not to open a small box that contains Evolution Stones that he's been collecting for Professor Robert. As soon as he left the orphanage she opened the box to see all the Evolution Stones and touched the Water Stone that was in it since she always wanted to become a Vaporeon after learning about her evolved forms while homeschooled. After evolving she thought of pranking Flare by scaring him that she's gonna make him evolve into a Flareon so she grabbed the Fire Stone in the box and left the room to find him. When Crystal found Flare outside the orphanage, she threatened to evolve him to which he started running away in fear and Crystal gave chase. After chasing him around the orphanage for a bit she found him hiding in a closet with cleaning items and he begged for her not to evolve to which she tells him it was just a prank. She tried to help him out of the closet but trips over an item and falls on him with the Fire Stone landing on him and making him evolve into a Flareon. Crystal realizing what she has done asked if he was alright but saw that his eyes were glowing red and he looked mad as she gets blasted out of the closet from a powerful Ember. Once Flare stepped out of the closet, Crystal began to run while he chased her. During the chase, Flare parts of the orphanage on fire and soon Crystal was cornered but Speed arrived and tried to calm to him down but he didn't listen and used Ember on the both of them, blasting them through the wall and have them lying outside of the building. Before Flare could use another attack on her and Speed he faints from using up his energy.
After Flare woke up and was released from being tied up, Speed grounded Crystal for a week and Flare didn't talk to her at all and wouldn't do so for a week as well. During the week, Crystal snuck out to follow Speed to Professor Robert's lab because she wanted to asked the professor if there was a way to devolve a Pokemon to which the professor tells her it's not possible right now but maybe sometime in the future. A week later and Flare still hasn't said a word to her which causes her to cry as she tearfully apologizes to Flare for what she's done and is thankfully forgiven by him.
On May 30, she along with Speed and Flare went out for a walk through the forest around Sunny Town and during it they found a rundown house. Crystal is the one who went in to check it out and was also the one to find an egg in it The egg would hatch and an Eevee who they would name, Sunshine later would come from it to which the three took her back to the orphanage and the mother let her stay with them in their room. They wondered why her egg was all alone in the abandoned house and when Speed learns from Trace that two Eeveelutions were killed around the area of the house that the egg was in and tells her and Flare about it, they decided not to say anything about it to her for now but know they'll have to eventually.
In 2014 sometimes after Flare turned 13, Speed filled out the paperwork to create their competitive battling team. When Speed needed to fill out their team's name, after throwing around some name ideas, Crystal came up with the team name "Eeveelution Squad" which both Speed and Flare liked. She also provided a drawing of their team logo. After submitting the paperwork the three siblings would talk about how exciting and nervous it was gonna be for them to go out traveling and as they talked about this Sunshine overheard them. Sunshine asked them about what they were talking about and Speed tells her they'll be going away for a long time soon which in response she asks if she can come with them and while he was against it at first he hesitantly lets her tag along after being convinced by Crystal. A few days later a letter came for the three siblings and when they opened it a form was in it that approved the creation of their team and that they're officially one now. They decided to wait till April to begin their journey.
On April 1, 2014, Speed, Crystal, and Flare begin their journey as a competitive battling team.
Crystal's Journey In The Beginning, Crystal loses most of her battles due to not taking it seriously. Even though Crystal met Trace before they began their journey, she never has once said his actual name. When she learned Trace is the son of Professor Robert she kept calling him the "son of a professor" or something similar and as she continued doing that, Trace got more and more annoyed as he doesn't like being called those things and being connected to his dad. Eventually he blows up on her and apologizing shortly after as he then explains why he doesn't like being talked about regarding his dad (I'll explain in a post about Trace, maybe). She apologizes and she eventually begins to call him by his name.
In Adventures in the Orange islands, Crystal looks back on her performance during the Indigo League and realizes she barely did anything to help as it was Speed who mostly battled and even Flare got a win. She questions her place on the team and asks her brothers if she's holding them back to which they assure her she's not. Crystal learns to take battling seriously so that she helps carry the team instead of just being dead weight.
In Gold and Silver, Crystal was the one who brings up the subject of adding someone new to the team. When Speed tells Pearl about the thing involving their mom, Crystal gets suspicious because she could tell that he was hiding something from her and tries to get him to spit out to her and Flare.
In Ruby and Sapphire, Crystal was the one who was most interested in doing Contest however when she did her first ever one she failed badly. Despite the failure she was determined to get better at it. She would get her own set of Contest rivals while being the leader of the Eeveelution Squad Contest team. Unlike Speed who tries to be a leader and have the team do things his way, Crystal is more open as a leader as she trusts the others with their abilities and comes up with ways they can use their abilities in the best way possible for Contest. Also Speed would learn from her about being a leader.
In Diamond and Pearl, when Leaf and Lazuli join the team she develops a bond with them. With Leaf, she and her would get along well as she influenced Leaf a little with her playful personality much to Lazuli's dismay. With Lazuli, Speed told Crystal to go help her feel comfortable while on the team to which the two would form a bond and become best friends with Crystal learning Aurora Beam as a sign of their friendship. As for Black, she helps him not take everything so seriously and try to make him relax and have fun. She would drag him to do things with the rest of the team and help him smile a bit.
In Black & White, Crystal was the reason why Flare developed a crush on Leaf as she teased him about liking her which planted the idea into his head. With the team's burst in popularity, Crystal let that get to her head for a bit but eventually gets overwhelmed by it and humbles herself.
In Battle Frontier, Crystal has the team return to doing Contest and with the return of Contest rivals from both Hoenn and Sinnoh she is more determined than ever to win this year's Contest Grand Festival.
In XY, Crystal along with the rest of the team offer their hand to Silvia to help her with doing the Pokemon Showcase sport since they have some experience due to the sport despite being different from Contest has some similarities to it. When Speed learns about his Turbo ability and tries to master it as well as Flare trying to master his Blaze ability, Crystal feels insecure as she feels she's not as special or strong like her brothers again but this time it was because she didn't have a Coastal ability. When she expresses this feeling to the team, Speed and Flare assure her she's strong in her own way and she doesn't need a special ability like them as they remind her of her accomplishments that she's made without having a Coastal ability.
In Sun & Moon, Crystal learns to appreciate life as well as the Pokemon around her which is her team who she starts to see as family. She also gets to meet her dad and uncle thanks to Tapu Fini and gets closure with them. Before the Alola journey, Crystal along with Speed and Flare realized that Mollie is their mom after spending time with her during vacation and after seeing their DNA samples matched, they tell her that they're her children and the family is reunited.
In Sword & Shield, Crystal is the one who is the most experienced with Dynamax out of all the members of the Eeveelution Squad. Whenever the Eeveelution Squad battles she is eager to Dynamax and everyone lets her do it unless the team is losing or at a disadvantage and needs someone else on the team to do it which while upset about not being able to Dynamax she understands. Crystal has a rivalry with Klara.
In Master Journeys, when Speed tells the team that they're gonna split up for a few months to train on their own, Crystal is one of the members who was against this but eventually gets convinced that it's for the best of the team if they wish to get through the Ultra Class in the World Championship Series.
And that's Journeys Crystal. What do you think of her? Leave your thoughts for me to read. Next post will be on Journeys Flare's and his post will happen soon. Until then, bye!

I'm baaaaack
Okay, so it's no secret that my kdrama love comes in bursts. I watch like 20 in one month and then none for half a year. So I know it's been a while. But now that I'm on winter break from school (one more semester til graduation!), I thought I'd use my spare time to watch some old favorites and give new dramas a shot. I watched several dramas in December, but I didn't feel like doing a full review for any of them. So here's a rapid-fire breakdown of my recent viewings.
Cheer Up (2022): This is the drama that brought me back into the kdrama fold and it was such a good one to start my streak with. I think it got mixed reviews and the MDL score is only a 7.5 but I absolutely adored this one. The vibes were just immaculate. All the cinematography was gorgeous. And as an American, this type of cheer squad is entirely new to me, but I loved every second of it. The ridiculous costumes, the repetitive dance moves, the hardcore training-- it was so campy and fun. I love that it cuts from intense boot camp to everyone dressed up like ABBA singing and waving their arms around. I also really liked the romance in this one, even though it got delayed for way too long. All the characters were great and I loved that everyone got a little bit of focus, not just the main couple. I will say the tone was all over the place. One second we're having a fun romp through college and the next we're being hunted by a madman intent on killing our female lead because... reasons? But I actually kind of liked how jarring it was. It was hilarious. I don't know if that was the goal, but it made me laugh every time. This one got a very rare 10/10.
Love to Hate You (2023): This is a short 10-episode drama on Netflix and it kind of feels like a filler show. You can watch it over two days when you have nothing else you're focused on. That's not to say it's bad. It's got some great moments and it turns some tropes on their head. For example, when you meet a female lead's ex-boyfriend in episode one, he usually becomes a villain (and sometimes he loses his mind and tries to kill someone. Something In The Rain, I'm looking at you). But here he became one of my favorite characters, serving as both a surprise hero and comic relief. And all her male co-workers seem like they look down on women at first, but they end up being super loyal and sweet. But the male lead was confusing for me. He starts out as an incredibly misogynistic jerk, but then they get together and his justification is basically "most women are evil, but I really like you." I didn't feel like he actually learned. And the pacing was super weird. It's hard to tell when they actually start liking each other vs. when they're trying to seduce each other competitively (that may only make sense if you've seen it). Then the last two episodes feel like they ran out of conflict and pulled something out of thin air because the main couple was already together and that's not compelling anymore. Idk, I didn't hate it but it wasn't amazing either. 7/10 because the ex-boyfriend was so fun and the co-workers were stars. Jeon Shin Hwan and Joo Jong Hyuk carried this show on their backs.
Hotel del Luna (2019): This may come as a shock, but I had never seen this one before. It's one of the most popular dramas online and I'd been meaning to get around to it, but it took longer than I expected. I won't spend too long on it because you probably all watched it like 4 years ago. Basically, I had fun and IU absolutely kills it, but by the end, the whole thing felt like it was trying to hard too make me cry. I also wasn't as into the main couple as I think I was supposed to be. They were fine, I just preferred her as mean and vindictive as opposed to sweet and lovey. Plus I have absolutely no idea when they started liking each other or when they started dating. It was very vague. But the side characters were absolutely amazing. 7/10.
Summer Strike (2022): This was a strange one. I think I would have enjoyed it more if my expectations weren't so off. I thought it was going to be a fun, slice-of-life, hijinks of the week type show. Like she moves to a little island and meets the quirky locals and finds inner peace. Boy was I wrong. It's actually like half that, half murder mystery? Why? I thought I was going to get "no plot, just vibes" and instead I got "oh you like that character? well they're dead now." Very strange. But maybe if I'd known what it was going in, I would have enjoyed the mystery more. It's like I expected apple juice and got root beer. Not necessarily the root beer's fault, but it wasn't what I wanted and kinda soured the experience. But I do have to brag that I predicted the reveal in the first few episodes. I guessed who the killer was. I just got a weird vibe and I was like "oh it's them." Lo and behold, I was RIGHT. Very proud of that. 7/10.
Castaway Diva (2023): I just finished this one and once again, it was not the vibe I thought it was going to be. But this one actually felt very inconsistent. With a premise like "she was stranded on an island for 15 years," I think you either have to make it silly and funny or very dark and realistic. This drama tried to have both. It seemed like it was only interested in unpacking the male leads' traumas, but not our female lead. It was picking and choosing what to take seriously. Like yeah, we're gonna explore the lifelong ramifications of escaping an abuser, but this girl that lived in total solitude for over a decade? She's totally fine. Besides, she was also abused, but it is almost never brought up again after the pilot. She doesn't have lasting trauma or even any significant feelings about it. At least none that are shared with the audience. Also, was Ki-ho's identity supposed to be a mystery? Was I supposed to be unsure of who it was? Because I knew immediately. 6/10.
I'm currently deciding what to watch next, so if you have a suggestion, please send it my way! So glad to be back.

I may just be being a scrooge but personally I never like the little goon squad group of comic relief besties in bls. These types of characters are usually in the more chill, strangers to lovers, school, office, coffee shop type settings, and stakes aren't really that high. You know the ones that I'm talking about, like friend #3,4 and 5. It's usually 2-3 supporting cast characters that aren't in any of the couples main or supporting (occasionally they are). And they're job is to just be silly, 'ooo' and 'ahh' about the couples, make observations about the couples that the audience is making, and you usually get them confused on who's who even with your group of friends who are all watching the show. And they'll have like a whole 5-minute scene where they ponder about whether or the mc's like each other once the mc's have left the scene themselves.
I could honestly do without. Let the series show this rather than having these characters tell me. These scenes are kinda 'cut the fat' for me.
My mind is blanking on the characters names from past bls so I'll use a current one. For example, North and Sonic in Pit Babe, oof ngl I could do without those two and their scenes with just them. I wish they had more purpose as far as a job in the XHunter crew. Cause as far as I know they aren't even like the official individuals in charge of social media for the team, unless I just wasn't paying attention when they established that. Like Babe actively said stop using me for your channel lmao. They just fuck around in the background but somehow are a part of official team meetings and stuff. Make them mechanics or something so I can justify their presence.
But anywhore, just a thought I had, and it could just be me being a negative nancy. If these are the types of characters you live for and they make you laugh, then great and pls enjoy. I've just never been a fan. Lemme know ur thoughts.

Just finished Heartstopper season 2 and I really enjoyed it! This won't be as in-depth as my usual TV show reviews (I say that like I haven't just started doing little reviews lmao). Spoilers!!
My favourite part of the season was probably Tao and Elle's relationship. Seeing Elle thriving like that was the best, and seeing Tao's growth was really satisfying.
The thing I was most excited to see from the comics was the teachers. Mr Farouk is funny as fuck, and I'm hoping to see more of him and Mr Ajayi next season too.
Also, I loved Isaac's subplot. I'm asexual and I'm pretty sure I'm arospec too, so seeing that storyline really meant a lot to me. I've been aware of my asexuality for at least five years now, and I know younger-me would have really liked to see something like this. I think it was really important to have that storyline specifically in this show, which focuses so much on queer romance and joy, so I'm hoping next season will give Isaac some more of the joy stuff, instead of the panicking that something's wrong with him thing.
Tara and Darcy were really cute this season, too. I like how Darcy's character was 'humanised' if that makes sense. I think previously she's been more used for comic relief and as a support for Tara in her coming out and stuff, so I liked seeing her in a more three-dimensional way.
I haven't got much to say about Nick and Charlie other than that they were really lovely together. I really liked Nick's coming out journey, and I'm interested to see if the show follows the same direction as the comics in terms of Charlie's mental health storyline.
Tori was phenomenal as always. I loved seeing her stand up to Nick's brother.
Sahar was a nice addition to the show. I liked seeing her get a more developed personality in the show compared to the comics, and I got the idea that maybe the show was hinting at a relationship between her and Imogen when Sahar was playing guitar at the prom. I can't blame her of course; I too would be gay for a guitar playing bisexual girl as pretty as Sahar.
Speaking of Imogen, she was so cute this season. Her friendship with the Paris Squad was so wholesome and lovely, and I was so relieved when she dumped Ben.
If I come up with any actual intelligent things to say about this show, I'll make a separate post.

Seeing as we've apparently reached the end of his story, what are your opinions/thoughts on Jack?
That is a good question, actually. What do I think about him?
I suppose... I expected to learn more about him. Because, he's mostly just been there, just as a lot of the captains to be fair. We've seen them fight, and we've seen them contribute, but mostly they've just been there.
But it's... Jack is one of the characters who has a large, supposedly magical, marking on his face, and I expected to learn more about it. Where did it come from? What's the symbolic meaning behind it? Because I do believe that there are meanings behind all of the symbols, and not just those that are on the Fire Vermillions (which I think are the only ones explained, despite a lot of the characters having a mark of some kind).
Though we did get a backstory for him, it somehow... felt incomplete to me. I can't really put my finger on it, what it is about the story that feels left unsaid, or if I just didn't read carefully enough when it was told. Because we haven't gotten all of the backstories of the captains, I expected that he'd be... more meaningful to the story? I mean, we know far less about Kaiser than we know about Jack. If there was a captain that was most expendable, it'd be him. Not Jack. Though I supposed the Purple Orcas suffering the loss of 2 captains in a couple of years might start rumours of the squad being cursed or something.
I also expected him to be a hybrid, just like Charmy, though I can't say where this idea came from. Perhaps from him having a ... freaky look about him? Though partly I thought that to be a part of his aesthetic. And there's something about his ... determination to be able to slice through anything and everything that feels very Black Clover to me. Because he's focused on "his thing", being the dude who can cut anything and he's striving, pushing forth with that. It's almost like a bull mentality. In that aspect Jack isn't a complex character, but I do think that there is something about him that is very Black Clover.
I've mainly seen him as a comic relief, especially while placed in the same room with Yami, but it's just that... Why is Jack having these flashbacks about Morgen? There is something about it that bugs me (pun intended).
The easy explanation is that Tabs needed someone to make the mistake, and Jack was there. Jack would have hung around Yami, as they were both commoners, and have been friends for quite some time, and thus is sensible to have witnessed Morgen and Yami teaming up. But even then keeping it as one side comment, aside of having all these flashbacks as Jack is dying, makes it seem... almost unnecessary. This isn't the first time we've had flashbacks in canon, and there has, I think more often than not, been a good reason to show them.
I can't say that his death... wouldn't make sense, because it does. But it feels almost... too convenient to have him have all these memories and flashbacks, and then just kill him off. Out of concealing something more. Again, usually when we've had flashbacks or stories, there has been something more to them. And I'm waiting for Tabs to connect all the dots for us in a brilliant finale. But that's more about BC as a whole than just about Jack.
I just... expected more. I expected him to have more of a role, I suppose. Again, we know about him more than about Kaiser. We've gotten his backstory, unlike Kaiser's or even Dorothy's. (Though Dorothy's is deducible to an extent.)
But... if nothing else, at least Jack got one last slice, at life. And his death isn't meaningless
Thank you for the question ^^

'The Drill'
Ah, I really love this episode. The drill itself is just such an amazing and ominous piece of machinery and it looks absolutely fantastic.
I love that Azula has these little extra seats next to her center seat on the throne for Mai and Ty Lee. That's more than likely custom made. Would Azula request something like that if she didn't consider Mai and Ty Lee her friends? Also, let's not forget about the moment when Mai just plainly refuses to jump into the slurry pipeline. Mai knows she's not going to face any actual punishment. I think Ty Lee is simply someone who is much more eager to please, while Mai is not. And maybe Ty Lee still remembers the way she was recruited. ;)
I think the arrogant attitudes of the Earth Kingdom generals are very realistic. Their city has stood unconquered for 100 years. It's understandable for it to create a myth of invincibility. They never planned for someone like Azula, though.
Ty Lee taking out a platoon of elite earthbenders is a glorious moment. I really need to remember that this girl can be vicious. And come on, Ty Lee flirting with Sokka when they catch up inside the drill... that's just so cute. I totally should include this ship in one of my future stories.
It's the 13th episode of the season and finally Sokka is being asked to stop being a comic relief and come up with a plan. He gets the idea from Katara, but fair enough, he does develop it into an actual working plan. The plan also works, so Sokka is 1/1 for Book 2. I do love that moment inside the drill when Sokka tells Katara and Aang to work faster, and Katara just gets so pissed she comes within an inch of waterbending at Sokka. <3
More Jetko stuff this episode and oh boy, is Jet chasing Zuko hard. <3 But Zuko is playing hard to get :( Iroh warming his tea with firebending and giving himself away. It's like Zuko says, for a supposedly wise old man it was a stupid move. I'll be honest - Iroh does so many stupid things that it's becoming very hard for me to reconcile it with the idea that he is in any way smart.
Poor Ty Lee probably really regretted jumping into that slurry pipeline though. It was pretty mean of Katara to trap her in that disgusting sludge lol. Katara calling her 'circus freak' was a bit weird, though. She doesn't know Ty Lee has anything to do with circus, and circus would be a fairly alien concept to Katara, so I think this was a writing goof. Sokka telling Katara to 'just bend the water, woman!'... yeah, I'm not going to give him Jerk Points for that. Katara took care of him perfectly herself <3
I love the rare occasions where Azula and Aang get to fight. Aang was usually handling Zuko or any other firebender without much issue. Azula destroys Aang in this fight. Aang just gets cleanly knocked out. I'll be honest - on my original watch of the show, this was the first episode where I was rooting for Azula to win against Aang. She had already won, and I felt like her victory was cheaply and unfairly stolen.
I love the different and telling reactions from the dangerous ladies at the end. Ty Lee is just grossed out by all the sludge, while Azula shows absolutely no reaction to it or to anything else. She is already calculating her next move. Mai's gloomy 'we lost' comment is just so her.
Sokka's ideas about the team nickname... honestly, they should have gone with the boomerang squad, but only spelling it as 'Boomer Aang Squad'. I mean, Aang is 112... total boomer. ;)
No Jerk Points to hand out this chapter. Nobody annoyed me for once. <3

Hi! What do you think of Hange? I'm curious about your opinion since your analysis are always interesting! I hope that you're doing well 🤗
Thank you so much for your ask. I’m happy to talk about Hange since she is one of my favorite characters in Attack on Titan and even though I still really enjoy the manga, I really think she is one of the characters which was done dirty by Yams, like she did not need to die like that…. AT ALL.
Anyway, I love Hange it isn't obvious and she is really one of my favorite characters in AoT particularly because of her intelligence.
I think we all agree that Hange is a genius. She ranked 11/10 in intelligence and she ranks high up there with Erwin and Armin in terms of her planning skills. For some reason though, in the anime, they tend to put in the spotlight Erwin and Armins genius in particular because Erwin for one is a brilliant strategist and Armin is incredibly detail oriented and brilliant strategist and I don't think I have to point these out because they've been proven time and time again in canon.
Hange’s a different type of genius. She has a special kind of genius which tends to be really overlooked. It's a subtler type than what we see with Armin and Erwin.
Sure, she has the mad scientist and the research vibe but I don't think these tropes encompass her genius as a whole. Hange is not necessarily a genius as a scientist or a researcher. In fact her skill as a researcher is only an extension of her actual genius.
She’s a genius at logistics and plan execution.
The thing is, most of Hange's intelligence is only subtly shown in her sheer mastery of logistics.
Her section in general is in charge of logistics and research which is INCREDIBLY important. She's literally logistics royalty but logistics is so underrated even in real life that her genius is so glossed over in most of canon. and she ends up reduced to a mad scientist comic relief character.
It's understandable because the complexity of logistics is so subtle that we tend to ignore it in our everyday life.
It's not obvious in canon but the details are there in the type of work Hange does, the mission planning. In fact, it’s not shown in detail in the anime since they only ever showed us one full expedition. It’s been confirmed in the video game , the survey corps generally did a lot of base building and creating supply chains where they could refill gas. Although Erwin gives the final say on the overall strategy, who do you think considers the logistics on what bases should go where? What weapons to bring? The sound bombs, the flash bombs? What weapons to put where? Where to put the bases? What types of bases to build?
Who do you think considered the boring details like transportation and equipment? Who considers the small "hows?" in the grand scheme of messages.
Hange.
A lot of the shit which Hange actually did in the first season was pretty much glossed over in exchange for fighting scenes. We get the mini arc about her capturing titans and showing them to Eren. Who figured out the plan with the exploding barrels and arrows to capture titans?
Hange.
Erwin plans the big "how's" and Hange has always planned the smaller "how's."
Just think of the 57th Expedition. Literally no one cares about the logistics which Hange so carefully planned out. I had actual friends who even forgot that Hange was there in the 57th expedition. Even when she was the one who loaded all the barrels and prepared them in the forest when they were to capture the female titan. She’s the one who plans where the refilling stations are too.
We get major exposition on Erwin’s plans then get major exposition on Levi’s fighting skills but we don’t get much exposition on the refilling stations or the barrels because really who wants to know about that.
(They show more of this in the video game tbh.)
So, although Erwin is the mastermind behind plans. Hange plays a huge part in execution by deciding which tools or which weapons should go where in the execution of plans. Tbh, I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if Hange was the one who modified the colored guns for the long range scouting formation Erwin planned out.
Proof in Canon aside from the 57th expedition
During the female titan arc, she had the logistics heavy idea of the barrel cannons set up around the Stohess district. It didn’t work in the end but a lot of thought came into placing the cannons there and Hange still managed to trap the female titan for a while.
This is a small detail but who do you think decided how to transport crystallized Annie? Hange’s squad, possibly Hange made the final call.
When the titans appeared in Wall Rose, who tries to figure out how they got in? It was mostly Hange because Hange knows how shit works, Hange knows what logistics could go into infiltrating a wall, what logistics go into transporting. The reason why Hänge actually comes back with all the theories because she is familiar with the minute details in executing plans. Erwin plans on a large scale, Hange plans the small details that go into the execution.
That was also the reason why she guessed probably that Reiner and the others were going to go to the forest and stay overnight. Hange generally plans boring things it was only natural that she would be able to predict their plan to stay the night in the forest better than Erwin.
In the uprising arc, Hange didn’t do much war strategy or fighting. Where did her skills go? Into PR issues, into she did know how to get a town together without fighting and how to get them to cooperate. The boring part but still very important part of the uprising.
We were faced with a situation on how to fight the armored titan and the logistics? Who answers that "how" by making the thunder spears?
HANGE.
TBH, I honestly think that Hänge as commander was more fitting towards season 4 because with the building of ports and the development needed for Paradis, they needed someone who knew how things work by the small details because by then, everything was run by technology. They needed someone who mastered transportation, schedules and engineering designs to make things work, not someone who can lead. I think Hange probably could have done a better job than Erwin. I can't even think of anyone who could have done a better job than Hange in leading the survey corps post Season 3.
Hange's works aren't grand but they're important, necessary but they're not flashy and that's why I don't think she gets the praise she deserves. Although it’s complex and requires a special type of genius to plan and figure out, it’s takes a certain perspective to appreciate.
She is the master of logistics, the master of literally every conventionally boring yet necessary thing in life. The equivalent of this in real life would probably be like how she doesn't plan the grand parts of events like the program of an event, or the nitty gritty content or the marketing. She'll be planning the food, the number of tables and chairs, the invitations. She'll hold everything together by the small details people take for granted.
In a company, she probably wouldn't lead a marketing team, HR, CEO which are the stuff people usually consider. She would probably head the supply chain or the manufacturing plant which actually makes the goods people market but most people tend to consider stuff quality by the marketing more than anything.
Logistics and small details when it comes to execution are not flashy and even when writing fiction they tend to be glossed over. And I guess, this is the reason why Hange never got the recognition she deserved.
Because really, in real life, who praises the person who plans the supply chain? Who praises the person who plans the execution after the leader announces the big plan? Who praises the person who thinks up transportation options? Who thinks up furniture? Food in events?
And that's the beauty in logistics it's a subtly complex part of life that looks so simple and boring yet requires a certain type of genius to execute perfectly.
That's why I consider Hange --- who has been shown in canon to have mastered it--- a special type of genius, a more subtle genius, and a more subtle brains and I love her for it.

Do you have any friend group ocs? What is the group dynamic and who plays what role
Unsure if i understood the question 100% right but
Three is technically a group so yeah
Djinn is definitely the comic relief. He's also the planner, though his plans usually work out only halfway through at most and then it's time to improvise. And he was the flirt before Jindra came around. Drama queen too
Jindra is the therapist. God knows the two need one. She's the chill one most of the time. When not, she's the big intimidating one (even though she's a head shorter than the other two
Stefan is the glue. He's the one holding the group together.
And all three are the mom friend in some way
There's also the Original Squad, that is Victor, Henry, Elizabeth, Justine though I'm not sure who has which role. And later another one forms with Ernest, Robert and Margaret (and Ferret). The crew could technically count as a friend group but they aren't that close. Margaret and Corbin take turns being the mom(dad) friend. Soulier, Jack and Thomas are the comic relief. Fintan is the baby. Fritz is the local grumpy man. Louis is the big brother friend with the biggest heart. Ernest is the antisocial loner for the first part of the voyage, then sorta switches places with Harcourt. When not captaining, Robert is the chill one.
