Loscar Drabble - A birthday wish

or a drabble about F3/F2 Loscar on Logan's birthday.

When the clock struck 12 on the night of his 19th birthday Logan remembered sitting on the balcony of his room, eyes cast out to the Atlantic Ocean, thinking he could see the light from Moore’s island from where he sat, that’s how Oscar found him. The house was quiet, everyone was asleep along with the city of Fort Lauderdale, so Oscar spoke to him in hushed whispers. 

“Logan!!” Logan can hear the excitement in his voice even as he whispers softly against the winds, “Happy Birthday!!” 

“Thank you!!” he grins, ear to ear, admiring his friend who was trying his best to shield the flickering candle from the breeze. 

“Quick, make a wish,” prompts Oscar, Logan closes his eyes and thinks, they sit in silence for a few seconds before he opens his eyes again and blows out the candle. They shared the small chocolate cupcake Oscar had gotten from the corner store. It tasted like canned frosting and melted wax, but Logan would argue that it was the best birthday cake he had ever had. “So, what’d you wish for?” Oscar asks after their fingers are licked clean and the cupcake is gone, 

“Couldn’t think of anything actually,” their backs leaned against the glass door, and dressed in their matching prema hoodie, Oscar had shifted over to look at Logan. 

“Nothing?” Oscar asks, “Already know what you want from life then?” Logan pondered it for a moment, he glanced behind them into his bedroom, his replica trophies from throughout the years sat on their shelves, and his parents and brother slept soundly in their rooms, then he turned back to Oscar, watching his friend for an instant before he answered. 

“You, I think,” did Logan imagine the dust of pink on Oscar’s cheeks, he wondered. “Will you be there? For the rest of my life?” Oscar sat unspoken for a few minutes then he nodded, 

“Yeah, I can do that,”

There's a flavor of whump I'm always craving that I don't see very often, I think because the possibilities are so context-specific. You can do some things in some universes that you can't in others! You can do certain things with non-human characters that you can't with others!

But hear me out:

Whumper making physiological changes to Whumpee's body.

Could be through programming for robot characters, dedicated brainwashing for humans, magic for fantasy settings, weird biology for aliens...

A few examples off the top of my head:

Alien species that instinctively responds to neck squeezing by going limp like a scruffed kitten, because this helped them survive encounters with predators. Delicious all on its own -- now throw in a quick surgery to permanently clamp the nerve responsible. Whumpee wakes up in a permanent state of relaxed submission and can't even show how terrified they are.

Obedience programming/training that's wired directly into a character's brain. When the system detects unwanted thoughts, it applies pain. Even after rescue, Whumpee can't think of themselves as an autonomous being because their mind is desperately protecting itself.

Characters with magic having their magic corrupted or bound so it either hurts them to use, or it can only be used to serve Whumper's purposes. Bonus points if Whumper has full control over their magic AND the use of it hurts them.

Characters given a brain implant or parasite that stimulates the reward center of the brain, which would be great, except they can't turn it off. They're kept in a constant state of bleary euphoria... with just enough sense of self left to know they want it to stop.

Characters being spelled or programmed so they physically cannot function independently. Characters who very literally NEED to be given permission to do things like relax or take a walk or even use the bathroom. Not being given this permission leaves them in a state of locked stasis -- fully aware of the time passing. Bonus: Caretaker can't reverse it, so they just HAVE to navigate All Of This.

Alien species that will a develop chronic physical illness if deprived of touch for too long. Said illness can only be treated through regular physical touch. Defiant Whumpees will often be locked in solitary confinement and fed through a slot in the bars until symptoms start to manifest. Sometimes they'll be left even longer, to make sure they end up a severe case. And now, oopsie, the only way to ease this horrible pain is by letting your captors put their hands on you!

Just. Physiological whump. The horror of someone else controlling your body or your mind. Betrayal of body. Etc. Do you understand.

So, we all know what cats are like when they like someone, right?? Just, following them around constantly. They don't want pets, they don't want to get picked up, they just want to watch you from a distance of five to twenty feet. Anyway, that's Damian!

He's in love with you, he needs you, he wants to keep you, but he has his pride!! Well, for a while at least. He's clingy, of course but he just... pretends he isn't?? It doesn't really work after the first few times. Pressing kisses to your forehead and holding your hand. And he'll do it while he's glaring at you.

Now, if you break up with him or reject him, you are going to see true brattiness. Monstrously bratty. How dare you? How dare you think you can leave him, reject him? He's the heir to the Al Ghul and Wayne dynasties. He gives you everything. And you don't accept it?

...Okay, you thought he'd stomp off after that. He's not leaving?? He's just... sitting outside your house...?? Why the hell is he glaring at you through your window???? It's not your fault????? Damian, however, is absolutely certain it is your fault. He will sit there through rain and snow, deliver you gifts and takeout, and wait sadly and grumpily till you take him back. And I thought he was impatient!

Unfortunately, while you saw him as a cat, he thought the same with you. While you see him as tame, he thinks of you as some wild alley cat that needs to be caught for it's own good. He just needs to slowly acclimate you to him and you guys will be right as rain. Maybe some treats will make you like him more? He'll figure it out, that he's confident of. Don't tell him he's being silly, you will just make things worse.
