it seems (from rough observation, not any surveys yet) that in general fandom culrure:

-a lot of characters that are commonly headcanoned as trans men are male in canon (ie the character transitioned years before canon)

-a lot of characters that are commonly headcanoned as trans women are... also male in canon (ie the character is still an egg/closeted)

and i think that raises a lot about 1: fandom's seeming inability to connect to characters that are female in canon 2: the differences in how people view trans men vs trans women and our transition processes

hi anon! so like first off ur not entirely wrong abt the british thing - i am romanian but ive been living in the uk for like 4 years now, u mightve seen a reference to that and assumed i was english. but bc ive been living there for a while i can quite confidently say that no, english people are not generally puritanical at all, much less than in america anyways. maybe theres more value put on decorum and politeness but i generally associate religiously-fuelled prudishness with american protestantism lmao. anyways

my thing is ive just come back from a vacation where i had no roaming so i genuinely have no idea whether ive missed smth major lmao. from what i could tell the thing ur talking abt is lando making dirty jokes on stream and ppl allegedly getting upset at that (??) which unless thats all been happening on twitter and i just havent seen it bc i deleted the app (god bless) (likely), the whole 'drama' seems to stem from one clickbait article by a clickbait sports news publication that seems to b based in india rather than the uk. was this abt the way landos (british) friends responded to him on stream? bc from what i could tell they were also participating in the moaning and calling themselves daddy activities. otherwise like what predominantly british public did u see upset? its quite odd as a thing to happen

i dont rly know how to address the whole life advice paragraph - i rly dont think lando talking abt a girl character in fortnite shooting cream out of her palms or propellers or smth is exactly life advice. lando specifically has quite a complicated relationship w his position as a role model and he often worries abt the 'advice' he gives ppl - smth thats also like, true, hes a v sheltered 23 year old who lacks a lot of normal life experiences bc his professional career basically started around age 7. idrk what to say abt the whole std thing bc like not only have i not heard lando talk actual details abt his potential promiscuity beyond a couple vague jokes, but also bc ive never had to think abt going into debt over chlamydia doamne pazeste. also like idk if i push someone nothing happens but if max verstappen does it on an international broadcast he has to do community service for it so ���🏻‍♀️ u win some u lose some. not rly sure of the point u wanted to make if im totally frank lol

ngl I'm testy about ppl (few I've seen, I haven't looked very far) who ignore 13's development into grumpy passive aggressive closed off about trauma in this episode, when - as I much love them - 10 and 11 got meta for literally every inflection. (extra bitter cos my god is cold moody dealing relatable, and I adore her for it)

I gave up looking at other peoples opinions abt 13′s mood right about the time i found out a whole lot of men thought her smile at the dalek in resolutions was  Friendly.  Ok, that’s a lie, i didn’t care to do that Before i found that out, but it was the final nail in the coffin. 

Honestly, every member of team tardis is getting short changed by a lot of people, not just 13. The Lack of a That Age white man to obsess over Always displays fandom bias in the most obvious way doesn’t it? People said 13 lacked depth throughout all of S11, yet a whole bunch of people and myself managed to get enough of a grip on her character that we’ve managed to predict a number of things that have now actually happened in s12 and we’re only 3 episodes in (idk about anybody else, but i didn’t watch the season a million times either), and tbh, a few of my other predictions look to be pretty on the money for happening soon, too.

This doesn’t even go into the rest of the cast who’re also getting shortchanged, for various reasons, I could Also write missives on Yaz’s facial expressions tbh??? Like, the sheer difference between Yaz’s sappy look at 13 back in s11 when she called her the best person she’s ever met contrasted with the sharp, loud anger when she confronted 13 about if she was lying? Incredible. Not to mention the utter Terror on her face at some moments in orphan 55, not sure if anybody’s giffed it yet but i will if they haven’t, but she was utterly terrified. What a Change. 

Honestly, i’ve just found a bunch of people in the fandom who Do notice these things and talk about them and stick around them, tbh, but i’m never gonna be surprised that when a fandom is given a complex performance by a woman that they entirely miss all the subtleties because they Don’t Actually Care, no matter how much they falsely claim it’s that they dislike or don’t care about female characters because they’re written shallowly (or like, anybody But a white man in a certain age group, to be fair). I just sit there going ‘sure jan’. 

It’s ironic though, I think Jodie’s performance as the doctor is the one who most Needs dissecting by fandom, because her doctor is actively Trying to take a strong hold of their own loud obnoxiousness and negative feelings and responses and suppress them, so you have to look harder to see it. The doctors before her who got micro analysed (ten-eleven) were often blatant more than subtle, and yet are the ones that get frame by frame dissections. 

*shrug emoji* i just stick to the edit tag, maybe a ship tag or two, and stick around the people whose opinions i respect tbh, and ur never gonna totally block out the crap, but i’ve successfully limited it?? But her descent into moody grumpiness and not being able to deal with her feelings is so interesting!!! and it’s sad ppl ignore it. She’s still the doctor. Y’all loved stuff like this before when it was tennant doing it.
