Ok, y’all, I’m embarrassingly tech-illiterate, they never taught it to us in school and I never learned on my own. Does anyone know of a primer to understand such things more? I know that’s probably a big, vague question but I don’t even know exactly what I should be looking for so I’m open to suggestions lol, I just need to at least understand how to set up a wifi network and shit like that. I’m also very interested in learning more about federated/decentralized platforms and privacy-focused stuff like protonmail. Thanks for any help you offer!

i have to pay $8 a month just to play BG3 because of the space it takes up. and when the internet is slow the graphics decrease anyways. mind you that $8 a month only gets me 1080 res anyways and 30fps.

here are my biggest gaming hot takes:

- no game actually needs to run faster than 30 FPS

- no texture needs to be bigger than 2k, and most don’t need to be bigger than 1k (save for megatextures). A good chunk should actually be smaller than 1k

- lower poly counts > high poly counts

Once you pass a certain threshold, it doesn’t even affect the style of the game that much, and you’re just using exponentially more power to get exponentially smaller results

Like, for example, the original Skyrim was 4 GB. The remaster is 22 GB. That’s five-and-a-half times more space for the exact same content! The graphical improvements are honestly negligible, especially when you consider the massive leap in storage and RAM used.

These sorts of things just hit diminishing returns so quickly— My eyes can’t tell the difference between 1k and 4k textures.

We have so many fun ways to get the maximum mileage out of every pixel and every polygon. It’s sad to see those techniques slowly trickle away from big-budget games!

Even as storage space becomes less and less of a concern, there’s something satisfying about keeping everything as small and tidy as possible

I haven’t posted in a longgggg time. Mostly because I’ve been on the grind for some video games + money to buy a new saxophone because my girlie is LIVING on tape rn ;-;

Anyway, this is just…a random idea I’ve thought of. I don’t have big plans yet, but just a little something to get me back to writing again.

So this idea is inspired by both Monster High and Monsters University. And the thing that might make this a shitpost is acrually the heavy design inspo from Mike Wazowski…save me from my brain-

Tw: Drugging, Needles (very brief), no consent mini surgery (installment of a device), implied stalking

So, MC is at university doing whatever studies they wish. Of course, they get assigned to a dorm to make transportation easier.

(MC can be human or any creature you choose, I’m bullshitting here)

Upon first entrance, their roommate happens to be some cyclops dude trying to cut his hair. Just…casually cutting his hair. Miserably. The more he cuts, the more it looks like a bowlcut.

(Now, unlike Wazowski, he actually is tall and has a proper body and head. More similar to the Ancient Greek myth than Mike. However, minus the giant part.)

MC is kind of feeling awkward but tries to introduce themselves. But he’s just snipping away, while talking. He’s quite friendly, but more quiet.

It’s only until he’s about to chop off a huge chunk that MC offers to do his hair since it’s about to be a borderline disaster. He agrees.

So somehow MC is stuck with trimming hair while they get to know him better.

He talks of how he’s a computer engineering major. How he’s building some grand PC of his own to game on.

Then he mentions how his family immigrated from Cyprus and has been living in [country idfk] ever since. Then goes on a ramble how despite his family’s culture he is the biggest hater of olives. He mentions mother complains to him he is avoiding his true nature.

But then, he asks MC, “If you had to offer your heart to let someone survive, would you?”

Of course, MC is stunned and is confused why he’s asking such a question. But answers soon enough.

He smiles. His one eye squinting with happiness.

“I would. I absolutely would. Especially since it took me so long to find you.”

Before MC could question him, they feel his hand quickly grasp away the scissors. His agility is a mystery. He then gets some form of spray can bottlefrom his hoodie pocket and sprays their face.

A suspicious, cheap looking can. MC starts freaking out: the chemical smell, his strange statement and question, and even his facial expression creeping them out too.

But then, they start feeling woozy. Weak. Extreme weakness you could call it. Having to settle themselves on the nearby seat. Their mind shutting down quickly.

And in moments slump over the backrest of the chair like they’re sleeping.

The cyclops just continues to smile. Before reaching to pet their hair. “I lied. I never was a computer engineering major. I’m actually a chemical engineering major.” He swishes a hand through his hair. He then comments, “Not bad at the cut.”

Before he drags them to a different room. The room is already decorated with things they would tend to enjoy. The colours, furniture, and items.

He tucks them into bed. Before leaving the room briefly, getting a tiny device (like lady bug small) with a needle attached to it. He leans down and pricks their neck, installing the device. He settled it deep enough to hide, but not enough to cause permanent damage.

He finished the installment off with a bandaid. Giving one last pat to their head before leaving the room.

Similar to what I said before, this isn’t a fully established idea. Just something I thought of while doing random things.

Now, just a bit of explanation because that’s what I love doing. So, he has in fact been stalking MC before this event. I’m not sure how/when yet, but definitely for at least a year.

The suspicious can of chemicals he had is actually something he engineered himself. It’s just a chemical that can knock someone out for less than half an hour, while also having the side effect of losing their recent memory.

The device he installed is a tracker. A very detailed one.

I don’t have a name for him. And idk if I’ll ever will, but just know he is in fact evil Mike Wazowski. /j

I’m thinking to add other characters to this idea I have. Including more ladies because I realized I rarely ever write women. And we need some.

I’m trying to write an IF. It’s a huge undertaking, but it feels so good when you start building up the pages and adding flavor scenes *cries*

I’m still building my world rn, and I’m still planning to add at least 1 more RO (there are only 2 atm, one of them gender locked to PC’s gender bcos of plot reasons). Everything just feels so exciting!

Brief look into the IF:

You are a touch-averse MC trying to overcome your past, your trauma. Make new relationships with the main cast, or push away their attempts at friendship. Your trauma can either slowly heal or spiral. You can do good deeds… or become a menace to society with your new electric powers. How the MC deals with their trauma is entirely up to you! The main cast will also notice and react when you’re doing great, hiding your pain, or struggling pretty bad.

How they use their elemental powers in the IF is inspired by Avatar: The Legend of Aang

Hopefully I’ll be able to put out the full infos and demo soon and get some feedback,,,

What is the level of technology in the new AU, and is it more medieval, closer to what we have now, or some blend of magic and tech?

I’m still sort of figuring it out, but it really depends on the place

sorry for the rant, my worldbuilding brain be goin wild rn

there are Two main cities that people go to, Pilgrims Passage and, the main, big city, (unnamed), which is actually in the spot where the Lamb’s cult used to reside. Anura has been cut off due to the amount of menticide mushrooms there are, and the carnivorous plants, Anchordeep and Darkwood have been littered with small villages, Darkwoods more into medicine and science, while Anchordeep being more artistic and tech nerds in nature. And the Silk Cradle has become more of a popular tourist area due to the really well preserved architecture that resides in it

For the old Cult grounds, they’re like New York if they didn’t have cars and the buildings were trying not to look as shiny as they can. The tech is very much like the tech now, and there are quite a few river walks for the people not to feel like they’ve become a part of the very boring world around them. Lamb’s Cult still resides there, but just underground. There are quite a few entrances and exits through the riverwalks, and not a lot of people who live in the city know about it. The place is more built to try and conserve the history of the isle, due to there being more history there than in any other town, and have built a museum over the old cult grounds, where a surprisingly large amount of artifacts remain, such as Lamb’s Fleeces (big sad)

and no, I’m not drawing that, i don’t think my ADD brain can stay that focused :)

Pilgrims passage is kinda like those homes that you see in movies where the place looks really old, but on the inside it’s like a normal home. Their tech is more focused on fishing and sailing than anything else, but they have things that are more like now, though not many people in Pilgrims Passage have things like TV’s, and Pc’s don’t exist

Overall looks like this, not good at backgrounds like that tho, so :|

Uhhh Midas’s cave has basically become an active volcano that is constantly spewing liquid gold mixed with magma. Not a lot goin on there

spore grotto is basically used as a lab for scientists and researchers to try and figure out the history of the place( because they still have no idea what happened, like little dumb kindergarteners >:])

and Smugglers Sanctuary has basically become the main home for the Rival cult. They have their buildings built on the water, and the fish are dangerous

anyways that’s basically all I got now based on the technology :)

yeah, our campaign started as WDH and has just continued into homebrew so we've gone to Silverymoon (we've yet to meet Alustriel in person but she's a big part of the current arc) and oddly enough Jarlaxle wasn't our villain so he wasn't present for the actual WDH part but one of our party members sought him out later to build up a spy network. so he exists as like, our shady contact (my PC has only a vague idea that there's a contact, and no reason to meet him dierectly and it's killing me)

and then yeah bruenor got mentioned last week by Laurel as a 'possible ally' so like. ahaha. super normal. I suppose we will have to consult the timeline to see where Drizzt+co actually ARE rn LOLLL

but i feel u about being normal. we had a yochol appear (lots od drow and lolth fuckery in this arc too) and i knew what it was IMMEDIATELY and was losing my shit bestie

RN with streaming i’m really just trying to get my foot in the door and figure stuff out. I plan to really ramp up and be more consistent with a real schedule come July.

It’s a lil hard rn as I’m a full time nursing student and work another 20-30 hours on top of that. I have a lot of free time rn as it’s the end of the semester and I’m not in a hospital atm.

Straying January, I’m going to have to slow down streaming a lot as I start my practicum (working in a hospital for ~24-36 hours a week) on top of school and my regular job.

Come July, I’m actually moving to Spain! I plan on buying my own PC, having a set desk space for streaming and all that.

For now, I’m trying to have fun and build a small community and really figure out the whole streaming thing. It’s a long term goal, but I have lots of fun plans coming up!

the reason it’s taking me so long to post the fic is bc i want to be pretty much finished with at least the first arc before i post it so that i don’t lose motivation 😅 i have a problem with losing motivation for a project after i start to show it to people, so pushing myself to finish it before posting anything is helping me work on it!
