late to the party but Meleanor was so right... Malleus IS a bright star for Briar Valley 😭💚✨

I really love how this groovy was composed visually. It really highlights the difference of Diasomnia members in comparison to Malleus. About their strength and status initially

but In a way, this makes me feel like it also highlights their difference in lifespan.

Malleus at the brightest because he still has far too many candles to burn, he is the one with the most highlights and saturation to bring focus but also since he's so bright, it dwindles other people's "shine", symbolizing his power and magnificence as an enabler to his loneliness and separation from others. He's like a Like a sun in a way... Too bright so its better not to get close, thats why its so poignant for me that his highlights are yellow (even though I know they just chose that bcs it complements green lol)

Sebek and Silver have some highlights, signifying they're young and obviously have many years to live by in human standards.

But what really caught my attention was how "dull" Lilia's color pallette here... Even Sebek and Silver's eyes look more saturated but Lilia is just outright "dull" even though we know his red eyes are really striking... It makes me think of his "eventual end" (am back in the Farewell Lilia laments lol)

How his colors here isnt as saturated and bright like Silver, Sebek, and Malleus bcs unlike them, he has too few of candles to burn now, the only highlights we see here are on the corners of his cape or "the last part of his character design".

I also really like how Sebek, Silver, and Lilia are placed behind Malleus, I assumed they were in front of Malleus based on the visuals of their dorm card lineup but here they're positioned behind Malleus to interpret they're guarding him in the shadows, but also it makes me think that they're positioned like that bcs Malleus obviously has a longer way to go than them but their past ("shadows") are still in Malleus' life and how Malleus can look behind in his past and recall their memories if it ever gets lonely living forward "seperated" from the the other Diaso members.

There is a contrast between green lights and violet lights on the floor, and only Sebek, Silver, and Malleus are standing in the green light.

In the color wheel, violet/purple and green are contrasting colors. If you grayscale these colors, You'll see that violet/purple will look darker than green (grayscale-wise). It makes me tear up interpreting that only Lilia is placed on the purple side of the area because he's the character here who's "life is dimming to darkness".

Even so, despite the differences in their status lifespan personality etc, they look so complete and look good together... 😭✨ And Malleus has an evil expression here too but it has an undertone that he's just happy... There's no undertone of intimidation unlike in pre-groovy, (and also because his face is so round (that happens bcs the perspective is high lol) that he looks softer, XD #chubby cheeks Malleus back at it again lol) and Malleus actually "looks kind" bcs he's with his family lol

you sifted throughout the stacked records. your boyfriend, Johnnie, stood next to you, trying to find one of your favorite albums. there was a comfortable silence between the two of you.

he pulled out [album] and handed it to you with a sweet smile. "Look at what I found." he handed it to you and placed a soft kiss on the top of your head.

your jaw dropped as you looked at it in your hands. "you know ive been looking for this album forever! I can't believe you found it,"

"I was so fucking excited whenever I saw it, he responded, turning his attention back to the records.

you smiled, looking at him for a second more before you continued flipping through.

you and Johnnie had planned this date a month in advance. with his busy schedule, it was hard to find time to take you out on a real date. he made you feel loved nonetheless.

the whole afternoon, it'd just be the two of you. there was a picnic blanket in the car, along with a couple of canvases and paint.

Johnnie had been wanting to do the painting trend on tiktok; you switch canvases every 5 minutes or so, and now was finally the chance. excited energy radiated from the both of you. even though you and Johnnie had been dating for over a year now, the honeymoon stage never faded.

you made sure to wear Johnnies favorite outfit of yours. he adored everything you wore. he loved your style in general. he could watch you style outfits for hours, the colors you wore were always so mesmerizing. each time, his stares made you nervous.

you left the shop with two records in hand, which Johnnie had paid for despite your protests.

in the car, Johnnie turned on your shared playlist. it was always so bipolar with your contrasting music tastes, but it was enjoyable anyway. he sang the words to your favorite songs as you did his. you drove to a park right on the outskirts of town.

Johnnie jogged around the car to open the door for you. "thank you, kind sir." you giggled.

"you're welcome, sweetheart." he flashed you a toothy grin.

being 'cringe' with Johnnie was your guys' thing. he loved calling you all of those silly pet names, and you took pride in the fact that you two were the stereotypical 'love bird' couple.

the two of you collected all of the supplied and trudged out into the park.

"im so glad I'm here with you." Johnnie mentioned, holding your one free hand. "it feels like it's been forever since I've gotten to take you on a real date, something other than cuddling and watching a movie with takeout or some shit."

you sighed, taking a step closer to him. "I know. but, it's okay baby." you planted a kiss on his cheek, stumbling over your feet as you tried not to drop the things in your arm. "I love those dates, too."

you laid out the blanket and Johnnie piled all of the painting supplies on top.

Johnnie sat across from you, a love struck look in his eyes that never seemed to leave whenever you were around. he spoke to you about whatever was on his mind: his music, the new Star Wars game, how much he loved your smile. he always found it so easy to talk to you, and you felt the same.

as you squirmed some colors out onto the pallette, you quizzed him on his new music. you practically begged him to show you daily, but he always refused, claiming it'd 'ruin the surprise.' so, as your paintbrush moved gently over the canvas, you gathered whatever information you could about his album (which wasn't very much.) you groaned, making a joke about him cheating on you with his album. you changed the subject, filling him in on co-worker drama. you also asked about how getting his drivers license was going, which he seemed proud to talk about.

finally, the timer went off and you switched paintings. you had painted a night sky, and that was all you had. his beautiful blue eyes were the biggest distraction.

he had illustrated a large, lanky, dead tree. it resembled his shoulder tattoo. you began painting small fairies under the tree as he immediately got back to work, simultaneously talking more in depth about his license.

you updated him on how learning guitar, on his guitar, was going. he gushed about how proud he was, and how he couldn't wait for the two of you to be able to play together. the only reason you hadn't yet was because you wanted to get better before he heard. silence fell between the two of you once more. you listened intently as he hummed, his eyebrows furrowed with concentration. he looked like a painting himself.

you switched off paintings. in your night sky, he had painted a UFO. a goody smile formed on his face whenever he saw your fairies.

he brought up the idea of making a youtube video together. the internet knew you were together, but you kept your relationship private. you had filmed videos with the whol group before, but never just Johnnie. you immediately agreed. word vomit erupted as you told him how excited you were to have two new records for your collection.

you mutually agreed you were ready to go home, seeing as you both were pretty tired and ready to cuddle and watch a movie.

the final painting switch commenced. he had drawn houses in the tree for the fairies, along with where lights strung around it. you had added a cow wearing sunglasses and a tutu under the UFO. you planned to hang both of the paintings up as soon as they were dry.

Johnnie leaned in, placing a long, sensual kiss on your lips. "I love you," he muttered against them with a smile.

you couldn't wait to marry Johnnie someday.

Everything was perfect, if you could you would stay like this forever.

The sun high in the sky just slightly hidden by clouds. The birds chirping making soft sounds and songs. The wind blewing through your (h/c) hair and across your face. The soft grass that you sat on mildly damp from morning dew. Even the paint that so easily glided across the canvas you painted on as you sat behind your house in the woods not to far away was perfect.

It was easy to escape like this. No matter how much you loved the others sometimes they were a bit too much. They were loud, bright souls whom you loved deeply but sometimes the quiet just felt better. The others often tried their best to accommodate to you by trying their hardness not to be too loud or do too much and it always made you so happy. Though you needed some quiet and space which was why you sat out to paint. You had always loved painting, it helped calm you down and relax. The pretty colors, the ideas that filled your head, even the snell of paint all relaxed you, this time was no different. A small smile graced your lips as you heard the soft sound of the grass behind you start to move.

"How kind of you to join me." you called out to the figure behind you who was holding his easle along with a few brushes and canvas in his small arms obviously having a bit of difficulty but saying nothing about it. "I thought you might like some company, after all painting with someone else can offer new inspiration." Wally's soft voice rang through your ears as he made his way to you, sitting his things beside yours and getting his stuff organized. You noticed he brought no paints most likely opting to use yours instead which you didn't mind, you two had shared a paint pallette more than once so this made little difference. A small giggle left you at his statement your hand never once moving from the painting you started. "I guess so." with that there was comfortable silence aside from Wally settling in and the occasional movement of dipping paint brushes in paints or moving into better positions.

After a while Wally begun to hum, the sound easily cutting the silence filling it with a gentle sound. You recognized the song as one called "Beautiful Dreamer" a song Barnaby had taught you both albeit only the first verse. (E/c) eyes travelled from painting over to Wally who held a relaxed smile while he dragged his brush elegantly along his canvas. Turning your attention back to your own piece of art you begun to hum along with him, the sound of each of you humming mixing to make a gentle melody that laced the air around the two of you.

It seemed as if time moved slower when you were with Wally. The silence wasn't awkward or weird, it was comforting. The silence occasionally being cut with hums, small talk, and the occasional joke. It was nice, the entire atmosphere felt light and it made you happy knowing you had someone to share such a relaxing moment with. Soon enough the sun was beginning to set, the amber light from the sun glazing everything in a beautiful color. Luckly you were already finished with your painting and by the way Wally placed his brush aside it seemed he was finished aswell.

"How about we show each other what we painted on the count of three?" your suggested when you noticed Wally playing with the edge of his canvas as if he didn't wish to show his alone. With a curt nod you started to count. The moment you hit three you both turned your painting around to the other. Your painting contained (favorite thing) in (your art style). The contents of the painting making Wally smile. He had a feeling you would paint that, it was just like you too do something like that. As relaxed eyes stared at your painting, (e/c) eyes stared at the painting in front of you.

The painting had Home in the center with some of your friends but the thing that took you a bit by surprise was the main focus of the piece. Aside from that the base of the painting which was bright and colorful, your eyes were immediately drawn to the dark colors that laced the piece. There were black and red spirals along the piece, it was like Wally didn't like what he had painted and decided to change it last minute. You could feel Wally's eyes on you obviously excepting a comment on the painting he created. Closing your eyes you smiled warmly, a sight that made Wally's eyes widen and dilate.

"I think it's really cool!" you said, your voice happy and truthful making Wally's heart melt at the sweetness in the tone. Opening your eyes you saw Wally's wide eyed stare, the sight a bit creepy but ultimately looking rather cat like to you. Before you could speak Wally grabbed your hand placing a gentle kiss against the back of it then one against your cheek. As you stared at him shocked, confused and flustered he smiled at you with the same warmth you smiled at him with, causing warmth to spread across your cheeks and nose. "I'm glad you like it." his voice was warm, and soothing almost like it was coated in honey. "It's getting late, let's go back to Home and get some rest." he offered, his hand squeezing your firmly as you nodded happy to go along with him.

"That's fine by me." with a few more soft words exchanged you both gathering your things, you even grabbed some of Wally's stuff to help him out despite his protest. You both walked side by side, chatting away about what you should do once you got to Home. You were so caught up in the conversation that you missed the sets of eyes that followed you both as you made your way out of the woods, however Wally didn't but he said nothing deciding it was best to let the others have their moment while you both had yours. After all he could just confront Barnaby about it later.

"I knew it! See I told you Frank, Wally and (Y/N) are in love!" Julie's voice rang through the now empty woods. The male in question sighing, his hand covering his face as his bright eyed friend gushed about seeing how Wally treated you. "Julie it wasn't that hard to figure out. I mean really, do you see the way Wally looks at them?" Frank responded straightforwardly. It wasn't hard for anyone to see how Wally favorited you over the rest so it was easy to tell that their short friend might had been developing a crush on you.

"Calm down Frank, atleast now we know the feeling is mutual between them two." Barnaby butted in placing a hand on Frank's shoulder as he thought back to the sweet conversations you and Wally had shared. Eddie nodded along to Barnaby's words, his own hand reaching and cupping Frank's. "I agree with Barnaby, its good to know." Frank couldn't help but sigh and relax a bit as he looked at the path you and Wally took to leave the woods. A small smile pushed it's way onto his face no matter how hard he tried to hide it. "I guess your right." his voice low as he spoke, in a way he was happy for you more than anyone else. He understood your struggles when it came to noise and how energetic and outgoing everyone else was so seeing you enjoying yourself in your natural state made him happy even if it was with Wally of all people. "I guess your right."

Finally, I am not the only one who noticed how rushed Paisley's redemption arc was. I know PBS Kids is ment to be for kids, but even children would notice how rushed some things are. First Stella, from Ready Jet Go: Space Camp, had a rushed character arc. Now Paisley, who didn't have much screen time as a villain might I add, immediately becomes an advocate for protecting nature. They could've at least have her rethink through her actions before changing sides.

I can tell that the show is already losing its taste. On the other hand, there are some positive things coming from the show, like Jimmy finally getting the spotlight, or fixing that annoying bright color pallette that I hated so much because it white washed Aviva at one point. But then there's the odd pacing and the cycle of plot holes and stupid stories like in No Name Dream. And I believe this is due to the fact a different studio is working on these recent seasons rather than the previous one that worked on the earlier ones.

Hell, I'm having more entertainment from the fandom's fanfictions than the actual show, especially since I've been seeing great talent and beautiful artwork from the best on Tumblr, Instagram, and Tik Tok. (Shout out to the Reprogrammed AU and Krattrastopic creators!) The fanfictions were more aware and accurate with the lore than the show itself.

But why am I complaining? I still liked the Blue and Green World special and still love the show itself. Just wished PBS Kids also cared about quality like they did in the past. If Bluey can impress all age ranges, then any kid show can. And hey, I actually wanted to see how Paisley being a good person would work in the franchise, even before the special came out.

Joel sat at the kitchen counter, nursing his morning coffee. It was a clear day, the heat of summer dwindling now that October was approaching. He relished these quiet moments in the mornings, just him and his world inside that house, safe and sound.

Even after 15 years though, the silence never lasted long. He was glad for it - he dreaded to think how quickly the days of silence would come and how much he would long for the noise.

As expected, footsteps thundered down the stairs.

One day that kid's goin' to bring this fuckin' house down.

"Hey Dad," Sarah says breathlessly as she sidles up to Joel. She's hiding something behind her back, and Joel well knows that look on her face by know. She's been up to something.

"Mornin' kid," he smiles. Whatever she's up to he doesn't care, seeing the best thing he ever did every morning always put a smile on his face. "What you got there?"

"I got something to show you," she bites her lip. "I made it."

Joel's heart wants to burst out of his chest. As a kid, he was always being gifted little drawings and creations - pictures of them in their house, a deranged looking cat with too many legs (a sign from Sarah that she really wanted a pet kitty - he wishes he could've said yes to her, but his allergies would never let it happen), a paper mache lump of something she'd made and painted. He kept it, but he still didn't know what it was. My babies first abstract art he'd joked at the time. It had been years since she'd made anything for him, she was more into playing with friends and sports than arts and crafts with her old man these days.

"Alright then, let's see it," he turns to face his daughter as she pulls her laptop from behind her back. It was a birthday gift this summer, and she was rarely off the damn thing - she said it made homework easier than having to use the family desktop computer, but he still didn't quite believe she didn't just use to to talk to her friends until the early hours of the morning. Still, he could never say no or be mad at her for much of anything for too long.

"And you ain't takin' that to school."

Sarah rolls her eyes. "I'm not. Look."

She points to the screen.

"I was up all night making it for you - Happy Birthday, Dad!"

It's... well. It's something else. Pictures of him (he recognized one as a picture she had taken 5 years ago) and the two of them together, all interspersed with a collection of other images he wasn't familiar with but somehow seemed to match. Joel's stomach dropped with it - if this is what his baby girl was into, maybe she'd changed more as a teen than he thought. Still, she'd made it for him. It was special.

"I... it's..." Joel was getting genuinely choked up. He didn't care what it was. He just loved that she made it for him.

"Don't you love it?" she prods his arm, grinning like a maniac.

"I do." And he did.

"The color pallette is so cute right, and this picture is my favorite." She points to a picture in the middle from a 4th of July last year - Her and Joel had gone to a neighbors house to celebrate. There'd been a bonfire. "I put filters on everything to make it more pink. It really gels it all together, don't you think?"

It was one of his favorites too. Even with... all the pink.

"It is uh, real pink, yeah," Joel says, scratching his neck. "It your new favorite color or somethin'? We need to paint your room again?"

Sarah's face drops. "I - I thought it was your favorite color, Dad." She looks devastated.

Joel is dumbstruck. What does he say. He flounders, stuttering, trying to find the words.

Suddenly, Sarah's face breaks into a shit eating grin big enough to rival Tommy's.

"I'm just fucking with you dad."

Joel's eyes snap to hers, a warning, and amusement, flashing across his face.

She holds her hands up in surrender. "Messing! I'm just messing with you."

"Well, I love it anyway. Even if you are just messin' with me," he kisses her temple and pushes her toward the door. "C'mon, lets get goin' or you're goin' to be late, and so am I."

Sarah rolls her eyes, gathers her school bag and heads for the door with Joel in tow. They both head for his truck, starting their day the same way they always do - together.

Joel stops before he reaches his truck, placing a large hand on the hood and looking over to his daughter. His - how did he get so lucky.

"Hey kid... can you send me that picture when you get home from school?"

Sarah smiles. It was a silly joke, but she's glad he loves it too. "Sure thing, Dad."

Heyyyya! So, first of all, I unfortunately don't use PSDs which is most likely what you've been seein everywhere. I'd suggest askin someone else about those bc I dunno 😭

BUT! I can show you how I color mine using photopea.

There's a search (magnifying glass) icon, and you search up "gradient map." For me there are two options, the correct one will gateway to this:

Then, just for practice, here's a color pallette to practice with. For me, it's easier to copy the lightest color first then the darkest one last because you start off with the darkest usually when putting them into the gradient map.

Hex codes for this: 400E2B A61439 018868 FE5C43 FEB17D

(Note: you can find lots of great color pallettes on Pinterest, and add as many colors as you want. It will just be easier with less!)

So now that you have your colors, you press on the gradient map. These two things circles are what you press, the square part of the gradient comes first and then the second thing circled will be accessible.

Once you press it, you can paste your hex code in here:

Then repeat this with the other colors, going down the gradient line as you do!

Here's what the gradient map should look like:

Ofc, when you aren't just practicing, you can order or however you want.

Again, I would ask someone abt PSDs because this isn't the most efficient 😔

Now, for tips on editing. I've gotten asked for a lotta tutorials but they're too hard for me to manage so I'll squeeze some answers into here.

1. For resources, there are a lot on Tumblr. However! You can search up "rentry resources" on Pinterest, and there will be pins that you can click that will take you to plenty of resources. However, if it says to credit when using a resource, obviously do that lmao 😭

2. When it comes to gif graphics, ezgif.com is a go-to. When it comes to putting already moving gifs into a frame and not wanting a background, I usually use the "remove background" feature that can be located after pressing "effects" on the home screen. Now, I wanna make this VERY clear before we continue: color in the background/around your frame before putting the gif behind it. Make sure!!! Make sure that the background is a UNIQUE color compared to the actual graphic. If it isn't, the background remover will remove parts of the actual graphic.

This is where you'll put the color of what you want to be REMOVED from the graphic. You might have to play around with it for a bit though.

As for making the gif graphic that goes into this, I use inshot personally. Since the canvas won't always fit and inshots default background is black, I say try to aim for a black background to remove. If not, make sure that the graphic will fit so that it covers the entire canvas.

4. You can always make differences if you dislike your graphic. It's okay to take a while and go back, and even restart. You'll see a lotta people here talk about how some ways are easier than others, but honestly just play around because you might find things better for yourself compared to others.

5. When starting out on Editblr, I'd suggest NOT immediately beginning with having requests open. It can make it start out as stressful and drive you away from it. Begin with just making graphics for yourself or of things YOU'RE passionate about. Editing should be more about your enjoyment than having something shiny to show off, y'know? (That was cheesy asf)

ANYWAYS! I HAAAATE EXPLAINING THINGS! (Because I'm bad at it lmao, not in general, you're all good dw❤ /p.) Even I can't decipher what I've said here, but to be fair I wrote this during a meltdown so I get an A for effort.

Not derailing this post which is having a very serious conversation about sex, sexnormativity, and such. There's a quote I want to talk about in that @curlicuecal in the conversation says and relate it to the culture surrounding the adoption of new media:

...if you spend some time talking to people with different experiences or learning about even one culture other than your own ... It just opens your eyes to perspectives and options you never even knew existed. And suddenly you have more colors to paint with.

I believe that the major success of homestuck and (unfortunately) harry potter as well as the major failure of Jame Cameron's Avatar, and minor failure of most YA dytopia novels wit harry potter houses correlate to this New Colors Principle: If you give people new colors to paint wit, they will paint with them.

let's skip over homestuck (we'll get back to it) and (unfortunately) talk about harry potter for a moment. The four houses are arguably the biggest part of potterhead culture, and that's more than just marketing. A lot of words have been written on how the houses function in canon, forming the basis for a bad positive feedback loop that ultimately radicalizes snape, voldemort, and other syltherins to bibotry; as well as other problems with their in canon implimentations. But, the thing that made harry potter so fucking popular, aside from the factors of success largely unrelated to the book itself, was that it gave people some fancy new astrology signs by way of the hogwarts houses. They were new colors to paint with, and its unfortunately what makes it so fucking difficult to kill too, because people don't want to lose access to those colors they found meaning in (I still internally identify wit a house, cringing as I do, because I painted myself with that color, and cutting that part of myself away, despite my acceptance of its necessity is a hard and painful process I'm probably never gonna completely manage.)

By contrast, the failure of James Cameron's Avatar to form a cultural splash is because He doesn't spend enough time really rexploring the blue people's culture in a way that's understandable to a human audience. A lot of the blue people's culture exists only as either a plot device or the mystical native trope, which kinda betrays his opinions on the real-life indiginous peoples his blue people are coded as. He had the opprotunity to create some truly fascinating colors, and had he done so by cooperating with the native people he believes are a "dead end society", and all he made was puce blue.

And now back to the other end of the spectrum, to quote myself, "Homestuck is a now concluded long running web comic series written by Andrew Hussie centering around the paradox inducing shenanagains of ten humans, twenty-four trolls, a number of cerebum, and several other species; as they all quest both for personal growth and to herald the birth of a new cosmic frog multiverse which the surviviors of the narative can settle into: It’s a glorious mess." That quote comes from an essay in which I use huusian troll romance to analysize the romantic-sexual attraction of a character from a completely unrelated media.

The popularity of homestuck stems, I argue here in part, from the absolutely unhinged pallette of new colors it created. You've got astrology^2 in the classpects; you've got the trolls with their lexusi, blood heirarchy, and romance quadrants; the leprechaun have their charms (which is itself taking the piss out of troll romance quadrants), the dichotomy of the prospit and derse dreaming, the cherbum, all the various ways to conceptualize the self brought about by shenanagains in paradox spacetime. Homestuck offers some 40+ new colors to fuck around painting wit, and cringe though the execution might have sometimes been, people did enfact fuck around and paint wit 'em.

People love having new colors to play with, and culture is driven by the desire to paint, but also to discover new colors to paint with. What an excellent metaphor, that I should note was made by a person who, at time of writing, has a homestuck icon.

How do you usually pick your color palettes? I love how vibrant your drawings are without been intense to the eyes

I went over a couple things in a previous ask. So I’ll include some different ones this time.

A big part is just having an archive of 'things' in your head that develops your intuition when choosing colors. Not necessarily other illustrations/characters, but also logos, buildings, irl stuff? They all give you not just color palette ideas, but also color distribution. You can simplify both trees and bushes as green/brown, but if you picture their colors in abstract, the distribution of each differs. And that helps a lot in recognizing areas where your colors seem lacking, or areas where they *should* be lacking (and thus not attention-grabbing).

In general though I look at a char and decide on a 'main idea'; usually a 2-3 color scheme based off the original design that everything needs to revolve around. Pink/Blues, Green/Orange, Black/Red, etc.

From there my first pass at colors is splitting the piece into different elements (hair, clothes, skin) and giving them a high-max brightness base color with arbitrary saturation, and the lineart a notably higher saturation (and maybe darker) version of the base, usually hue shifted a bit to the left or right (Note this often won't be enough).

Some elements won't fit cleanly in the 2-3 color palette, or would blend in too much with the surroundings (especially with stuff like accessories or clothing patterns). In those cases I mess with the saturation, or use one of the other hues I've limited myself to in order to make it pop out more (outlining the object or giving it a shadow with the opposing color, coloring the lineart surround it, removing the lineart, etc).

Basic shadow colors is usually higher saturated and hue shifted versions of the base color.

The limited pallette creates situations where I'll use pink to act as highlights on Miku's blue hair. Or the pink is used to create extra hair strands for more volume. Limitations force creativity kinda deal.

Trial and Error 🙃. Get used to putting sets of shadings on separate layers so you can lock transparency and change the whole color at once. Same for having a dozen layers clipped to the lineart. Clip has a 'take me to layer this is on' button under Operations that's quite nice for this.

Choose a base level of brightness (usually max for me) and don't deviate too much. Brightness is a powerful part in how your art 'reads' so making something notable darker/brighter than the rest should be a deliberate decision that you make several other choices around. On that note, when I do make something dark, I make sure the lineart around it feels bright and saturated against it.

A buddy told me this trick where you have a layer of pure black on top of everything else. Have the layer setting to "Color" and it gives you an alright idea of how well your brightness reads.

I've already explained the jist of it here and expanding on some defense/prosecutor duos I enjoy here

I am so excited to talk abt this!! Feel free to ask more questions! I'm using this ask as an excuse to talk abt design ideas regarding the lawyers!

Starting off with Gem, whose design I've already finished!! She has a similar silhouette to Apollo's angsty Dual Destinies design with her (green) jacket over her shoulders because of the shawl(?) In her hc10 skin and witch skin. I gave her a white button up with a yellow tie since a lot of her skins have yellow/gold accents. I also gave her a corset because of the corset for her empires skin (now sure what season, I haven't watched her empires u-u). I've given her a single glove as a reference to her hc10 skin and to Athena's single glove, since I think Athena and her share some fun similarities. Finally she has some grey pants (Capcom give these lawyer women pants!!) And brown dress boots.

Unfortunately, Gem's design was the easiest for me! I'm trying to keep the defense side relatively simple as you'll notice in aa they tend to be (rip Athena). I don't want everyone in a basic suit tho so I am trying to mix things up a bit. Would love some suggestions! As for the others, I have some ideas

Scott's S1 Empires skin is actually perfect! It's that multicolored tunic that could easily be depicted as a suit jacket with a white dress shirt underneath. Could be fun to mess around with what kind of shirt he's in or a neck accessory besides a tie. Other than that I haven't got much for him. Ace attorney lawyers also tend to be strongly color coded, so a multicolored suit may break that aa feel, but uh it's more fun <3. I may end up playing around with the colors anyway.

Mumbo's design is actually the easiest. I had more fun with Gem, hence why she was done first, but Mumbo is already wearing his ace attorney suit design lol. I kinda want to play around with it a bit more, but I may end up settling on his self imposed aa design.

Scar has an extremely unique problem for me where he actually has too many fun lawyer-adjacent skins. Particularly his hc8 and limited life skins. They are both very iconic to me but would be difficult to actually mesh into one deisgn. Additionally I ADORE the color pallette of his secret life skin (og, but red is good too) but I'm not sure if I could include it. Altogether Scar is the hardest!! If I pick one route I feel like I'm losing so many possibilities! And I don't want to just copy one skin of his, like Gem I want their to be numerous references to different skins. May have to study the aa wiki defense attorneys to get some better in-universe outfit ideas.

I've been having some trouble with Grian as I wanted to include his iconic sweater without breaking the prosecutor vibe. The prosecution tends to have more wild or whimsical (see Nahyuta) designs. However, I think Grian may end up on the more simple side of the prosecutor spectrum, Edgeworth is a more simple prosecutor anyway and Grian is Edgeworth-adjacent. Come to think of it tho, his poultry man skin looks stupidly similar to Gregory Edgeworth. Could do smth with that maybe hmmm.

Etho's design is actually pretty straightforward from his skin. And he only has one to work with haha. What I'm picturing looks a lot like Godot's outfit, he even has a mask on lol. I'm probably gonna try to make it pretty unique, but it is hard to resist the urge to just turn those sleeves into a button up and that green into a suit vest.

Joel is one I'm trying to play around with more. I've perused his skins and haven't had any stand out as super lawyer-y. His default is fun enough to work with tho! Gem's comment of his weird vest thing as a corset is making me consider giving him a corset (he and Gem can match!). I'm trying to distinguish him from Shrek as much as possible while still keeping recognizable elements from his default. All in all I think he'll be fun.

CLEO oh BOY am I excited for Cleo. I'm thinking a lot of Franziska's silhouette with Cleo, focussing on extravagant sleeves, particularly relating to that blue dress skin of Cleo's. I'm also thinking of Nahyuta's detailing. Cleo's skins, to me, give the perfect amount of inspo without spelling anything out. I'll probably stick to her usual color pallette, but playing around with her 80s skin colors could be fun! Cleo is very exciting for me!

Finally, Pearl. When it comes to Pearl's design, her top aa influence is Barok van Zieks. I adore his cape and would really like to use it as a reference to scarlet Pearl. I also really like his soldier-esc getup underneath it, and while I wouldn't go as heavy handed with it, I am tempted to take some bits. I also really like Lana Skye for Pearl as a design reference, but mostly for her sprites. Pearl will not be crazy corrupt like her, but I would like to draw some parallels

thank you so much!!! :") i've been actually been trying to get better with my palettes so i'm happy that they stand out!! i really don't think i'm a good resource for advice (self taught & mostly go off vibes) but i'll try

definitely look into color theory. i don't know if it's actually designed for what art i do but this was a good resource for me. you said you liked the zacharie pics so i'll use it as an example!!

i use different shades within each color but the general idea is that i'm using two complimentary pairings in one piece--red/green and then blue/orange. it makes the entire piece pop. purple/yellow is definitely one of my favorite palettes to do but i have a soft spot for red/green because it's always interesting trying to make really sure it doesn't start giving christmas vibes LMAO. it can get really fun playing around with different shades. color changes the tone of the piece so definitely consider what youre trying to convey when you pick the colors you want to use.

2. i think a level of restriction breeds innovation. you have to do more with what you have. for this piece i reused base colors as 'shading colors' a lot. the poliwag's base blue was also used as a shading color, for example. i think it ties the piece together if colors are repurposed in multiple spots. generally, i personally don't like having too many colors in one design or drawing. if i can reuse a color, i want to. for shading, for convenience, sometimes ill use multiply and overlay layers which increases the color count, but i've been trying to branch out from them more :). overlay can be very useful (as well as some of CSPs other modes) in coming up with very vibrant palettes that you can use as a jumping off point.

3. kinda going off my above point, but this is more about character palettes than palettes for a drawing. if you look at a lot of my oc designs i have a low amount of colors ill use in one character, as well. i do a lot of gijinkas which in a way can pick palettes 'for me' but im also talking about my oc designs outside of that (1) (2) (3) (4) if i have too many colors i almost feel like i start to lose focus. i use complimentary colors a lot. this is honestly a little of a personal preference in how i approach designs (i also don't like designs with too many tiny details so...lol) so i don't know how 'legitimate' it is as advice? but i thought i'd offer it

3. i was so afraid of using bright colors when i was younger because i didn't want things to clash, so a huge part of this is just getting more confidence in the process. i mess around with colors during my sketching process, and treat palette picking as a part of sketching. the zacharie drawing went through like 2 different constantly tweaked palettes. you have to be willing to just throw whatever down at the risk of it looking bad, erase it, and do it again. don't get too attached to anything. don't aim for perfectionism on the first go. i also have this same mentality for just sketching in general. playing it safe can destroy the expressiveness of the piece and the integrity of your vision. you wanna try out some obnoxious neon blue? ok, put it down and build around it. art is meant to express something!! be more confident in what you want to make. if it looks 'bad' nobody has to see it. just keep messing around until you like it, or throw it out completely and go again.

CHESTER

1. COLOR - yellow/magenta/dark turquoise

tbh there's not much color symbolism put to thought for my color picks for chester or for arcade they are just colors I picked because I associate these pallettes with them which is CRAZY because i LOVE COLOR SYMBOLISM!! THE CURTAINS ARE ALWAYS BLUE FOR A REASON!!! but I will put depth to them anyhow

yellow, representing joy and optimism reflects chesters outward feelings towards his life and his circumstances. he's a realist in the sense that he knows that things will probably not go his way/he might die but I'd wager that's a pretty common thought process across the post-apocalyptic united states. however he approaches situations with the idea that he can make things better or easier, or resolve things peacefully or with as little conflict as possible, and maintains a positive and upbeat attitude as often as he can manage

magenta is representative of balance, kindness, compassion, which is pretty true to chester's character. he doesnt approach any situation with a mind of violence, and only resorts to it when left with no other choice or pushed into a hard place. he enters every encounter with the idea that other people are human too, even when they're human and evil. he tries very hard to see and understand everything eye-to-eye even when the scenario is way over his head, i.e. pretty much everything about the struggle for power over the dam.

turquoise, on the positive side, has a lot of similar symbology to the other two colors, but on the negative side can represent stress & high alert, which, I mean, come on... I fear there's no couriers out there in the wide world of fnv ocs that aren't constantly unyieldingly stressed out ... darker shades of colors usually have a dour effect to them, seeming unsaturated & devoid of spirit, which I think plays well with chesters mental state throughout the game (and at times after it), a bright and cheerful color that has been stripped of its spark, suddenly looks sadder and has less joyful connotations

2. FLORA - dill

wellll according to the flower dictionary, dill represents power against evil. I am for sure not on flower language & can't speak 100% to the accuracy of random flower almanac online but for the sake of this post let's say it's real. I don't think I need to go into meticulous detail about why dill fits chester so well hashtagindependentvegas, but I think it's more than just him killing "the bad guys" and more his dedication to helping the individuals living in these conditions. his highest faction relationships are with goodsprings, novac, freeside & the followers. yes chester ends up being very powerful in that way that he takes out the biggest heads, but the strongest weapon against oppression and fascism is the simple act of caring about and for other people ,which is what turns out to be what chester does most and loves best

3. FAUNA - cow

cows symbolize generosity and nurturing, but I think I've already covered things similar to that with the previous couple of things so I want to focus more on the cow as an image of butchery and sacrifice, and in contest to the Legion using the bull as it's token symbol. I think chester is frequently in a position in which people are trying to use him and kill him, getting him out of the way so that some aspect of what he has can be useful, or sending him to his death or into danger for personal gain. need I even mention old world blues and being literally hacked apart . also I've never mentioned chester has legion lore but he was owned by the legion for several years as a child and I think it's quite interesting if he's represented by a cow, a softer and arguably more toothless vision of the same creature (I am aware all bovines are quite big and strong but I'm talking about representations here <3)

4. OBJECT - screwdriver

while in the legion his primary job was repairing and cleaning weapons and technology, and he grew a real hatred for mechanical upkeep after escaping, letting his own property (weapons, furniture, etc) go to waste because he couldn't bring himself to diddle with things anymore. i think the screwdriver kind of represents the apprehension to grow and heal from his own past (as opposed to running away from it + changing himself to ignore it). it sounds kind of silly when I write it out but it's okay 🥹

5. SONG - Life During Wartime - Talking Heads

I actually don't know what to say about this one for real because explaining how I relate my characters to music is like trying to say what a color tastes like it's so hard because it's very much about feelings and lyrics and lyrical analysis is a whole other beast for me BUT this is my excuse to post the chester playlist ;)

6. FEELING - enduring

Chester is experiencing a near sisyphean struggle day in and day out but he still makes it to the end of the fucking game BABYYYY. chester knows that the struggle in the mojave will never be over and he loves it anyway, chester knows there will always be someone trying to hurt others and he keeps trying to prevent it anyway. he will always be doing something in the face of adversity and will keep going anyway. maybe a bad explanation but idk! he just doesn't give up! indomitable chester

ARCADE

1. COLOR - off-white/light yellow/blue

for off white I was thinking of white being representative of purity & innocence & off white being kind of an off-kilter interpretation. arcade had such strong ideals and wants such cut, clear good things for the people of the wasteland. I agree with what he wants very much but I think in action, some of the things you have to do to achieve them have more complicated outcomes than is let on in theory sometimes!!! you have to kill a LOT of people in this game!!!

fun fact yellow is also a color that represents intelligence + clarity, things I think arcade has in spades, obviously . I chose light yellow because I like it for him more, it's a gentler color and i think arcade is a more gentle person than he gets credit for (am not calling him weak or anything, just tactful & cautious)

as for blue , I think the obvious call is that it is symbolic of sadness and melancholy, but i also find I like that blue can represent stagnation and boredom and loneliness, all things I think arcade vocally struggles with before becoming involved in the escapades of the courier (in my case chester of course). I think the dialogue he has when you ask him about his research in the old Mormon fort does not spell the story of a person that is happy where they are at, talking about how the research is boring and fruitless, and apologizing for rambling to you because he never has an outlet for his thoughts. not being a people person, being "stuck" with his research because he doesn't want to interact with others despite being a for serious doctor. I'm clutching my chest I'm so distressed by him

2. FLORA - rosemary

chester and arcade with their herb symbology. aren't they so special. apparently rosemary is symbolic for remembrance! Arcade's story is deeply steeped in themes of memory and the past, I think it is only suitable that he would have something likewise for this. he grapples strongly with how lovingly he remembers his family vs. the reality of what they participated in. most of his pertinent ambient dialogue is him reminiscing on things from his childhood, old world technology and science, politics, writing and history. arcade, before his growth, is living both in the past of his own life, and other peoples

3. FAUNA - elephant

you know the old adage about elephants having excellent memory is actually true and not an exaggeration but since I've already said my piece about arcade and memory I will instead say that elephants are one of the most nurturing animals on the planet and travel in family herds ! Male elephants do break off from the herd after some years but female elephants will stay forever. I often think about how arcade lost his father at a young age and then had his mother and Daisy to turn to most of all. the maternity of it all wounds me!!!!

4. OBJECT - scizzors

i fear the symbolism as scizzors as a means to cut ties/cut free makes me sick when I think about encouraging arcade to grow and become his own person outside of the enclave + his fathers' shadows. also scizzors medical utensil, finish of stitches, open wounds , et cetera. I feel so silly with these surface level explanations of things that's my bad

5. SONG - Runs in the Family - The Roches

6. FEELING - guilt

maybe a bit on the nose its in my opinion kind of that arcade feels like he has to make things up to the world based on his family's behavior... I think arcade does what he does for the right reasons of course but I also think it's so beautiful & telling that this guy is so passionate about knowledge, learning, and restoration, which are things the enclave had too, to some degree, but wants these things to be put to action in a way that aids and benefits the lowlifes that would've been put to death in an enclave-run mojave. poor drug addicts and land starved farmers, traders and prostitutes and more. the common person and all their flaws become just as worthy in arcades eyes than they would've been to others. I think there is a shadow of responsibility to be this better person hanging over his head that is made bolder by a genuine enthusiastic passion for medicine and research & an understanding of what would be actually useful to people in a world such as this. he wonders if this is what his father would've wanted him to be. I think I could've found a more apt word than guilt but to my defense I was at work when drawing this

So have you seen Hellraiser 2022? What are your thoughts?

Yes! I've finally seen hellraiser 2022 and the short of it is: I LOVED IT!

I loved the design for the Hell Priest. I liked the color pallette (reminded me of comic kirsty) and I loved the pin treatment (reminded me of the book.) The voice was haunting and beautiful. Everything I would expect out of a cenobite.

I loved Riley as a protag. As always the rule of "if the protag is a girl then the movie is good." I think she perfectly embodied the themes and meanings of hellraiser. She consistently chose life's pleasures over facing life's pains and realities. And she continues to do so up until the end of the film. That final moment with the hell Priest will stick with me forever. Riley saying she wants nothing, after doing all that for her brother. And the Priest outlining the regret and suffering that will come of these choice and then saying "so you choose lament." That was SO POWERFUL!! it felt so perfect.

The new additions to the Hellraiser lore were done well. It added new confinement and clearer rules when it came to the configurations, while also opening up for cooler concepts and questions. If someone were to choose Lore what would that look like? What would Love look like to a cenobite? Also my friend mentioned it was funny all the choices started with L. You literally are just taking your L.

I think it stayed true to the hellraiser roots in which pinhead will always be like "not arguing with a brunette with a perm. Whatever deal you want beautiful." I especially found it funny when a cenobite was killed as an offering and the Priest stood there quietly as if they were debating if that was even allowed.

I loved that they stuck to the formula of the Priest being a consequence to the antag. The loom of which he was strung on was an insane concept. And ofc his later wish of power through Leviathan was everything I wanted and expected.

I was SO HAPPY when I heard the original hellraiser OST being used in the end. That music is iconic, it really wrapped me in at the end like wow this IS a hellraiser movie. It was when that music started did the 2022 film really grounded itself as being up there as one of the most enjoyable hellraiser movies.

The way the cenobites opened and closed the dimensions between hell and earth were so creative. The car scene is so mind boggling and is exactly how I would love to see that concept get pushed with new technology.

That also includes the puzzle box. All the configurations and the sounds, the clicking and the moving felt great. We've really progressed beyond just rubbing our fingers on the box and hoping for the best. I thought it looked amazing.

I have very little criticisms of the film other than, even though the cenobite designs were so great. I really do miss the black and leather component of the cenobites. It makes them look like beings who make active choices rather than zombies. I would've liked more of the clothing aspect incorporated bc that was such an iconic look of cenobites. However the 2022 look was insanely creative and really pushed their body modifications.

So yeah! Those are most of my thoughts. Great movie over all. I wouldn't mind seeing more with this cast, but I also would be content if it stood alone. :>

It felt like it was made by people who enjoyed the source material. And that ALWAYS makes a better movie.

🥊- Bullet really enjoys building things - mostly engineering and crafting her own weapons, and she also has a thing for motorcycles too. In her time living in Alaska, she enjoyed selling or trading furs for money and taking care of her wolf-dogs.

🍀 - For Bullet, it was actually just randomly popped into my head one day and I just really wanted to draw it. I thought of making her resemble Jessie from ff7, but also having a warm color tone compared to Snake and her being his counterpart

✂️ - Probably her worst memory would have been when she lost V. She saw him as a father/uncle figure and losing him really fucked her up. It wasn't just V that she lost, though, because she lost the rest of her comrades and her first lover in Outer Heaven as well. She hated that memory so much that, in fact, she never mentions it and changes the subject whenever Snake or Otacon brings it up.

Miranda/Knife

🥊 - Knife really enjoys painting in her spare time. Some of the paintings that were hung up in Mantis' quarters were painted by her.

🍀 - I thought that maybe Bullet needed an enemy other than Liquid, so I thought, "Hey, what if I made a character with the opposite color pallette?" And so Knife was created. I thought her design was awesome, so I decided to make her a part of FOXHOUND and I don't regret it at all because I love her so much.

✂️ - Knife's worst memory would probably have been whenever Liquid left for the SAS because it was her 16th birthday that day and he left that night without a word, leaving her and Mantis behind and making her feel like he didn't need her anymore which triggered her into a depressive state for a time.

1. Thankyou for this question!! I LOVE colors and pretty color pallettes. I think its pretty obvious from my blog that my favorite color is definitely purple!!! It just makes me soo happy like I even have a whole pintrest board dedicated to purple images and it serves literally no purpose other than eye candy. It reminds me of space and the ocean and timelessness it just feels so deep and full of passion but also angelic and ahhh its just overall a beautiful color

Apart from that I love the color jade/emerald green. It just reminds me of being deep in a pine forest. (I love plants and greenery) And it also gives off amazing dark academia vibes that i am just here for. It just feels like a color so full of life and raw emotion. (Am I being dramatic?, sORRY moving on)

These are the two main colors im obsessed with! And what I love even more is that these are the colors of the ace and aro flags respectively (purple and green).
