I genuinely don't understand why people are being so dramatic about the Little Mermaid movie. I mean, this movie's target audience may be the people who have grown up with the original cartoon too but, just like every single Disney movie, it's mostly for children. Said children couldn't care less about Ariel's appearance. All the people who on the other hand are stomping their feet on the ground about it are definitely not children, since they seem to always be older that fifteen and younger than fifty, therefore they shouldn't be this pressed about this movie's casting choices as it wasn't intended for them

I get the nostalgia and all that but dear heavens grow up

#i've seen someone say that people would have been angry even if disney had casted a blonde white actress to play ariel and yeah. maybe #but for some reason people are never as unhappy with this kind of change #as they are when a black person gets casted to play a character who was previously described as white #like. i haven't seen anyone yell about how the blue fairy from pinocchio wasn't blonde nor actually an adult woman in the original tale #and instead was a shapeshifting creature who could choose any age and any appearance she wanted #(as she appeared for the first time as a little girl with blue hair and kept reappearing later in various forms)#(but ALWAYS with blue hair which pinocchio used to recognize her)#but i have seen people throw a tantrum about not only ariel but also annabeth chase from pjo being played by black actresses #curious thing. i wonder why #the little mermaid #lonely thoughts
