MILK YOU DRY - THANOS
pairing: thanos x top male reader
synopsis: This is why you never accept things from people you don't know.
content warnings: 18+, bottom thanos, drug usage, riding, cockwarming, semi-public sex
word count: 0.4k (this is short as fuck lolol)
It all started with one little pill.
"Come on, man. It'll take the edge off," Thanos had said, pressing the tiny thing into your palm with that signature smug smirk. "Consider it a gift. Or an investment."
You had hesitated for all of three seconds before shrugging and dry-swallowing it. Bad decision? Maybe. But you were already knee-deep in the nightmare that was the death game you were currently stuck participating in, so what was one more risk? Plus, Thanos had this way of talking that made everything sound like a good idea, even the objectively stupid ones.
Fast forward fifteen minutes later, and you were absolutely wrecked.
"You're so—you're so soft," you slurred, hands gripping Thanos' waist as he straddled your lap inside a bathroom stall, your cock happily burrowed in his ass. The world was spinning in a fun way, your limbs felt light, and Thanos smelled like cigarette smoke and…vanilla?
"You’re so gone," he snickered, arms slung around your shoulders, his fingers playing with the back of your hair. "Damn, you really can't handle your stuff."
"I can handle you just fine," you shot back, half-lidded eyes locking onto his. That seemed to be the magic phrase because Thanos grinned, leaned in, and kissed you, as he slowly bounced on your cock– the overstimulation and the effects of the pill making your brain go mushy.
It was messy. It was uncoordinated. It was hands roaming where they shouldn’t and teeth clashing because neither of you had enough patience to slow down. Thanos was warm in your lap, your cock in his tight ass grounding you just enough to keep your head from floating off entirely.
"You're kinda hot when you're like this," he murmured against your lips before biting down—hard enough to make you hiss.
"You're kinda a menace," you shot back, fingers digging into his hips, dragging him back onto your length.
The sound of the bathroom door creaking open barely registered at first. But then, a very familiar and exasperated voice filled the stall.
"You have got to be kidding me."
Both of you froze.
Slowly—very slowly—you turned your head. And there, standing in the doorway with an expression of pure disbelief, was Nam-gyu.
Thanos, the absolute menace that he was, didn't even look fazed. If anything, his grin widened as he leaned back, still comfortably perched on your lap. "Hey, Nam-gyu. We were just—"
"I can see what you were just." Nam-gyu pinched the bridge of his nose. "I leave you alone for twenty minutes, and this is what happens?"
You opened your mouth to come up with some kind of excuse, but all that came out was an unhelpful, "Uh."
Nam-gyu exhaled, shaking his head before stepping inside and shutting the stall door behind him. The last thing you saw before exhaustion came over you was the absolutely devilish smirk spreading across his face.
Well. This was gonna be interesting.

me, on the phone with my dad: so dad i actually watched the Super Bowl
my dad, not a sports person remotely: *laughing* how did that go
me: well i watched it for free on tubi and the quality was shit and we were really watching it for the halftime show but then the chiefs were epically losing and it was funny
my dad, acting as if he has no idea this was in fact the outcome of the game: interesting
me: but yeah i watched it and i was like oh now when someone at work asks me about this i can be like not totally lost. and then no one asked me about it!
my mom, from somewhere in the background: you could have brought it up to them!
me: yeah but that creates expectations. i have no idea what happened other than they played football, the chiefs miserably lost and kendrick lamar killed it. i didnt even know it was in new orleans until like 2 days ago
my dad: wait it was in new orleans????

Pairing: Paige Bueckers x OC
Genre: competition for dominance, long overdue desire, uconn royalties, angst, enemies to lovers, mad in love but denial paige, happy ending yayy
Authors Note: Hi guys, so this is a one - shot but I think it's too long to be called that. I wrote this in one sitting afraid I'll lose the plot if I chose to post it in chapters. Enjoy!
Present Day
The bass pulsed through the walls of The Tavern, a heartbeat that thrummed beneath the floorboards. Paige had barely stepped inside when she spotted her friend, Taylor, waving her over from a booth packed with soccer players.
"Finally, you made it! Where’s your teammates?" Taylor greeted, tipping her beer toward Paige. "C’mon, meet my squad."
Paige approached, her six-foot frame moving effortlessly through the crowd. She had barely scanned the faces when she spotted her.
Xena.
Legs crossed, draped over the couch like she owned the place, a sly smile playing on her lips as she leaned toward a wide-eyed brunette, some fan hanging onto her every word. Xena’s fingers twirled a loose strand of the girl's hair, her voice low and smooth.
Something twisted in Paige’s chest. Annoyance? Interest? She wasn’t sure, but it was enough to make her jaw clench.
“Xen, stop corrupting the fans,” Taylor joked, nudging the girl playfully. "Paige, meet the legend herself—Xena. Team’s best striker."
Xena’s head lifted slowly, her dark gaze locking onto Paige’s. A slow, knowing smile curled her lips, like she’d been expecting this moment.
"Paige." Xena’s voice was honeyed, edged with something unspoken.
Paige’s brows lifted slightly. "You know me?"
Xena hummed, sipping her drink. "Who doesn’t know the pride of UConn basketball?" Her tone was casual, but there was something beneath it. Something pointed.
Paige smirked, tilting her head. "And yet, I don’t know you." She lied.
A flicker. Barely there, but Paige caught it—the briefest shadow of something in Xena’s eyes before she covered it up with a laugh. "Guess I’m not that memorable."
The air between them thickened. The team chatted around them, but the moment belonged to just them—silent, taut. Then, as if breaking a spell, Xena turned back to her fan, dismissing Paige with an easy flick of her attention.
Paige exhaled sharply, tearing her gaze away. What the hell was that?
The night bled on, filled with cheap liquor, stolen glances, and conversations Paige wasn’t listening to. Xena had disappeared at some point, but Paige hadn’t missed the way she’d moved through the club—fluid, confident, untouchable.
When Paige finally spotted her again, she was slipping through the back door, a hand running through her hair, her head tilting back as she inhaled the cold night air. Paige’s fingers twitched against her glass. Go.
She didn’t think—just acted.
The moment she stepped outside, the door swinging shut behind her, Xena was already turning back toward the entrance.
They collided.
Hands—Xena’s at Paige’s waist, steadying. Paige’s at Xena’s back, pressing. The contact was electric, an unspoken challenge sparking between them.
Xena’s breath hitched first.
“Following me, UConn?” Xena’s voice was soft but taunting, her fingers tightening just a fraction at Paige’s hip.
Paige scoffed, but she didn’t step away. "I don’t chase."
Xena’s lips parted slightly, just for a second, before she smirked. "Good. Because you’d never catch me."
Paige’s grip on her back flexed, just enough to let Xena feel the strength beneath her fingertips. "That so?"
Xena’s thumb traced over the hem of Paige’s shirt, barely noticeable. Barely innocent. "Mm," she murmured, eyes flickering between Paige’s lips and her gaze. "You don’t strike me as the kind to play fair."
Paige swallowed, her mind clouding with heat, confusion, and something deeply dangerous. "Depends on the game."
Xena exhaled a soft laugh, shaking her head. "You have no idea what you just walked into."
Paige tilted her head, eyes darkening. "Then show me."
For a moment, it felt like something was going to break.
Then—Xena stepped back.
Not a retreat. A warning.
"Careful what you wish for, UConn."
Then she was gone, slipping past Paige, leaving behind only the ghost of her touch and a storm in Paige’s chest.
Paige stood there, fists clenching and unclenching, lips tingling with words she didn’t say.
This wasn’t over. Not even close.
1 Year Ago, The Tavern
The music was different that night—slower, sultrier, drowning in red neon haze. Paige wasn’t supposed to be there. It was offseason, and she had workouts early, but something about the buzz in her veins had made her reckless.
She had been waiting for her drink at the bar when she felt it—someone moving close, just close enough to set her nerves on fire.
"Didn’t take you for the type to party on a Tuesday," a voice murmured at her ear, smooth, familiar.
Paige turned her head slightly, enough to catch dark eyes, a teasing smirk, and the scent of something warm and intoxicating. She knew this girl—Xena. Some soccer player, quick on her feet and sharper with her words.
"Didn’t take you for the type to be watching me," Paige shot back.
Xena chuckled, resting a casual elbow on the bar beside her. "Hard not to when you walk in like you own the place."
Paige smirked. "I usually do."
The bartender slid Paige’s drink across the bar, and before she could reach for it, Xena was there, fingers brushing against hers as she stole the glass.
Paige raised a brow. "That mine?"
Xena took a slow sip, tongue flicking out to taste the rim before handing it back. "Now it is."
Heat coiled low in Paige’s stomach, something dangerous curling in her chest. She took the glass back, mirroring Xena’s movement, deliberately placing her lips where hers had just been. Xena watched, eyes dark and full of something unspoken.
That night had blurred after that. A challenge in the way they danced—Xena pressing close, Paige pulling back, both of them waiting for the other to break. And then outside, against the alley wall, lips hovering but never touching, breaths tangled between them.
Paige had wanted it. Fuck, she had wanted it.
But Xena had just smirked, fingers ghosting over the pulse at Paige’s throat.
"Not tonight, UConn."
And then she had walked away. No explanation. No promise of later. Just gone.
Paige had stood there, burning, furious, confused.
She had told herself she forgot about it. But now, standing outside The Tavern with Xena’s voice still lingering in her ears, she knew that was a lie.
Paige pushed off the wall, exhaling hard.
Careful what you wish for, UConn.
She turned and walked back inside, shoulders rolling with tension. The night went on, drinks passed between hands, conversations shallow and meaningless. But Paige felt it—the weight of Xena’s presence still lingering, even though she was nowhere in sight.
When she finally left, she told herself it meant nothing.
The week that followed, Paige drowned herself in the familiar rhythm of morning workouts and late-night shooting drills. She let Nika and the rest of her teammates pull her into study sessions and casual nights out.
But every now and then, when she wasn’t paying attention, she found herself looking. Searching.
Xena didn’t show.
On the other side of campus, Xena pretended she didn’t care.
She went about her days the same way—practices, classes, the occasional night out with her teammates. But in the quiet moments, she found herself gripping her phone too tightly, resisting the urge to check if Paige had posted something, if their paths would cross again.
She told herself it was nothing. That Paige was nothing.
But she had always been a bad liar.
Three Years Ago
Xena had always been protective of her little brother, Leo. He was only twelve at the time, still in that reckless stage where he thought he was invincible. Their family had come to visit UConn that weekend, walking through campus while their parents gushed over her scholarship and upcoming freshman season.
Xena had been distracted, half-listening, her cleats slung over her shoulder, when it happened.
Leo had been messing around, running ahead, pretending the sidewalk was a balance beam. Then, in a split second, he tripped.
Straight into the street.
Xena’s heart shot to her throat, her feet frozen. She tried to scream, to lunge forward, but before she could move, someone else did.
A tall girl in a UConn basketball hoodie—blonde ponytail swinging, reflexes sharp as a blade—had stepped off the curb without hesitation. One second, Leo was in danger. The next, he was yanked back by the scruff of his hoodie, landing hard against the girl’s chest as a car sped past, missing him by inches.
Leo gasped, his hands fisting in the stranger’s sweatshirt.
"Hey, you good?" her voice had been firm, steady, like she’d done this a hundred times.
Leo nodded frantically, eyes wide as saucers.
Xena’s parents rushed forward, thanking the girl, fussing over Leo, but Xena… she just stood there.
She should’ve spoken. Should’ve said something, anything.
But she didn’t.
She just watched as the girl gave Leo a reassuring pat on the back, smiled faintly, then walked away before Xena could even catch her name.
Later that night, when her parents kept talking about how grateful they were, how it was a miracle, Xena found herself searching online. UConn women’s basketball—blonde, tall, fast reflexes.
That’s when she found her.
Paige.
From that day forward, she kept tabs. Not obsessively, not in a way she’d admit, but enough. Enough to see the articles, the highlight reels, the moments where Paige Bueckers owned the court like she was born for it.
Enough to wonder what it would’ve been like to say thank you.
The first time she saw Paige in person again was at The Tavern.
She hadn’t expected it. Hadn’t planned it. But the moment she spotted her at the bar, standing under the red glow of neon lights, it was like something in her tilted.
She hadn’t even thought.
She moved toward her, pulse thrumming, intentions clear. Say thank you. Make it quick.
But when Paige turned, locking eyes with her, everything shifted.
Up close, she was more. More intense, more magnetic, more everything.
Xena’s throat went dry. Fuck.
"Didn’t take you for the type to party on a Tuesday," she murmured instead.
It wasn’t what she had meant to say. But it was what came out.
Paige arched a brow, unimpressed. "Didn’t take you for the type to be watching me."
Xena almost laughed, almost said, I’ve been watching you for three years.
Instead, she leaned closer, let herself feel the heat rolling off Paige’s skin. "Hard not to when you walk in like you own the place."
Paige smirked. "I usually do."
Xena wanted to say something smart. Witty. Playful.
But all she could think about was that day—Paige’s hand gripping Leo’s hoodie, pulling him to safety. How effortless it had been for her to save him.
The words tangled in her throat.
Before she could stop herself, she reached for Paige’s drink, fingers brushing hers as she lifted it to her lips.
"That mine?" Paige asked, voice edged with challenge.
Xena held her gaze, lips parting just slightly as she took a slow sip. Fuck, she tastes good. "Now it is."
Something dark flickered in Paige’s eyes, something hot and unfamiliar. Xena should’ve backed off, should’ve turned the conversation back to what she had meant to say.
But instead, the moment spiraled—dancing, touches that lingered too long, breathless almost-kisses.
Xena had gotten so close, felt the warmth of Paige’s body pressing against hers, so fucking close.
She wanted it. God, she wanted it.
But her throat tightened with something that felt too much like guilt. This hadn’t started as a game.
So she did the only thing she knew how to do when things got too real.
She pulled back.
"Not tonight, UConn." And she walked away.
Paige had stared after her, something raw in her expression, and Xena had clenched her fists, forcing herself not to turn back.
Later that night, she had stared at her ceiling, cursing herself. Why didn’t you just say thank you?
Present Day
The stadium was packed. Paige thrived under the pressure, under the roar of the crowd, the weight of expectation. She moved like she always did—smooth, lethal, untouchable.
Until she saw them.
A cluster of soccer players just a few rows back from the court. And at the center of them—Xena, sprawled out like she had all the time in the world, watching her.
Paige nearly faltered mid-dribble.
Kk noticed. "You good?"
"Fine," Paige muttered, setting her jaw.
The game resumed, but Xena wasn’t done.
Every time Paige glanced up, there was something new—a mocking little wave, a slow, exaggerated clap when she scored, a smirk around the straw of her drink.
When the final buzzer rang, Paige had barely stepped off the court when she heard it.
"Nice work, UConn."
She turned, her pulse still thrumming from the game, sweat cooling against her skin.
Xena was waiting just outside the tunnel, leaning against the wall like she had all the time in the world.
Paige rolled her eyes, yanking at the towel around her neck. "What, here to recruit me for your fan club?"
Xena grinned. "You’d look good in our colors."
Paige scoffed. "Don’t need the distraction."
Xena’s gaze flickered over her, slow and deliberate. "Funny, ‘cause you looked pretty distracted back there."
Paige took a step closer, ignoring the way her skin tingled with every inch that closed between them. "If you think you got in my head, you’re delusional."
Xena tilted her head, smug and infuriating. "That so?"
Paige’s fingers twitched. She wanted—fuck, she didn’t even know what she wanted. To shut Xena up? To wipe that smirk off her face? Or to do something else entirely?
Xena must have seen it. Because she leaned in, voice dropping just enough to make Paige’s breath hitch.
"Tell me, UConn," she murmured, lips almost brushing her ear. "Are you mad ‘cause I was watching… or ‘cause I know you liked it that I’m here?"
Paige’s stomach dropped.
She opened her mouth, but Xena was already stepping back, a satisfied little smirk on her lips.
"See you around," she said, like it was inevitable.
And maybe it was.
The moment Xena stepped into the basketball arena, she knew she was playing with fire. But that was the point, wasn’t it?
If she couldn’t have Paige’s attention one way, she’d get it another.
So she leaned back, smirking, making sure Paige saw her. The little waves, the slow claps—it was all intentional.
And it worked.
Paige’s movements were sharp but just a little off. The thought sent a thrill through Xena’s chest.
And when the game was over, when Paige finally stormed toward the tunnel, Xena was already waiting.
"Nice work, UConn."
Paige barely slowed, wiping sweat from her face. "What, here to recruit me for your fan club?"
Xena grinned. "You’d look good in our colors."
Paige scoffed, but Xena saw the way her shoulders tensed. "Don’t need the distraction."
Xena tilted her head, drinking in the sight of her—messy hair, flushed skin, sharp edges softened just slightly by exhaustion. She wanted to touch her.
Instead, she let her words do the damage. "Funny, ‘cause you looked pretty distracted back there."
Paige’s jaw tightened.
Xena stepped closer, lowering her voice. "Tell me, UConn. Are you mad ‘cause I was watching… or ‘cause I know you liked it that I’m here?"
She felt it, the shift in Paige’s breathing. The way she sucked in a sharp inhale, her composure cracking for just a second. Xena had expected a sharp retort, a push back. Instead, Paige just stared at her, something unreadable in her expression.
For the first time, Xena felt uneasy.
Then Paige scoffed, rolling her eyes, and the moment passed.
"See you around," Xena teased, flashing her signature smirk before turning to walk away.
But as she disappeared into the crowd, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she had just fucked up.
Because for the first time, Paige actually looked lost.
And Xena doesn’t know what to do with that.
So she walked away, again.
Days after, she tried to push it from her mind. The way Paige had held her gaze like she wanted to rip her apart and pull her closer all at once. The way Xena had almost expected her to chase after her in the tunnel, to demand an answer, to call her out for whatever the hell was happening between them.
But Paige hadn’t chased her.
She had just watched.
And that was somehow worse.
Xena wasn’t expecting to see her again so soon.
The week had been normal, or as normal as things could be. Soccer practice, classes, casual flirting with girls she didn’t care about. She had almost convinced herself that the tension at the game had been nothing. That Paige wasn’t actually affecting her.
But then—fate, or maybe just bad luck.
Xena was heading out of the student center, earbuds in, mind half-focused on her phone when—
A solid, unmoving force. A warm body against hers. Hands catching her waist.
Paige Bueckers.
The realization hit Xena half a second after impact, but by then, her hands had already found purchase on Paige’s hoodie, gripping the fabric out of instinct.
Paige had caught her. Held her steady.
For a beat, neither of them moved.
Xena’s breath stalled in her chest, the proximity too much, too sudden. The smell of Paige—something clean, something faintly like sweat and mint—wrapped around her like a noose.
Then Paige’s hands flexed against her waist, just a little, before she let go.
Xena forced herself to step back, straightening, masking the split-second of unbalance with a smirk. "You should watch where you’re going, Bueckers."
Paige raised a brow. "Funny. I was thinking the same thing."
Her voice was calm, unreadable, but there was something in the way she looked at Xena—something new. The frustration from the tunnel? Gone. Replaced by something smoother, more deliberate.
Xena tilted her head, studying her. "So, what, you just happen to run into me? You following me now?"
Paige exhaled a quiet laugh, shaking her head. "Not everything’s about you, Xena Blackwood."
That shouldn’t have affected Xena. It shouldn’t have sent a sharp thrill through her spine.
But the way Paige said it—so effortlessly dismissive, so unbothered. Fucking hell.
Xena wasn’t used to that.
She stepped closer, testing the space between them. "You sure? You seemed pretty locked in on me back at the game."
Paige’s smirk didn’t falter. She just hummed, tilting her head slightly. "Did I?"
Xena opened her mouth, ready to push, ready to find the crack in Paige’s armor.
But Paige? Paige moved first.
Not away. Not back. But forward.
The shift was so subtle, so precise that Xena almost didn’t register it until she felt the whisper of Paige’s breath near her jaw.
She stilled.
And Paige fucking knew it.
"You talk a lot," Paige murmured, her voice so low Xena barely caught it. "Always trying to get under my skin. Wonder why that is."
Xena swallowed. "Maybe I just like seeing you flustered."
Paige huffed a quiet laugh, one that vibrated in Xena’s chest. Then, just as quickly as she had closed the space, she pulled back.
And that—that control, that command of the moment—left Xena pissed.
She should have been the one leading this push-and-pull. She should have had Paige stumbling, not the other way around.
But Paige just patted Xena’s shoulder, fucking patted her, before stepping around her like this was nothing more than a casual run-in.
"See you around," Paige said over her shoulder, voice laced with quiet amusement.
Xena turned, watching her go, jaw clenched.
Paige had played the game differently this time. And for the first time in a long time, Xena wasn’t sure if she was winning.
Paige almost didn’t go.
She had excuses lined up, perfectly reasonable ones. Practice had been brutal. She had an assignment due. She didn’t care about soccer.
But then Nika had grabbed her wrist and dragged her out of the dorm before she could finish a sentence.
"Come on, twin," Nika had grinned. "You need to touch grass. Literally."
So now she was here, sitting in the stands with half the basketball team, watching UConn’s women’s soccer squad take the field.
And then she saw her.
Xena.
The sight of her sent a sharp jolt through Paige’s stomach—unexpected, unwelcome.
She wasn’t even doing anything special. Just standing there, one hand on her hip, eyes locked ahead, but fuck. She looked different out here.
Paige was used to seeing her in dimly lit clubs, draped over some girl with a smirk that dared you to want her.
But here, under the bright stadium lights, hair tied back, uniform clinging to her body, expression sharp with focus—this was a different Xena.
Paige leaned forward, elbows on her knees, watching as the game started.
She hadn’t realized how physical soccer was.
Basketball was fast-paced, sure, but this? This was relentless. A nonstop fight for possession, bodies colliding, elbows flying. The stamina alone was insane.
And Xena?
She was fucking electric.
Paige tracked her movements without meaning to. The way she cut through defenders like they weren’t even there. The way she anticipated plays before they happened. The sheer force of her presence.
This is what she looks like when she’s serious.
Paige had seen glimpses of it before—the sharpness in Xena’s eyes when she was taunting her, the edge in her voice when she was trying to get under her skin.
But now, this version of Xena wasn’t playing games.
And Paige felt it.
She hated that she felt it.
Hated that it made something tighten in her chest.
She hated it even more when things started to go wrong.
It started small.
A late tackle here, an extra shove there. The other team was losing, and frustration was creeping into their movements.
Xena was still controlling the game, but Paige could see the shift—the rising tension, the way the opposing players were getting reckless.
And then it happened.
A loose ball. A collision.
Xena went down hard.
Paige barely had time to register it before a second impact came—a knee to the ribs, a cleat clipping against her thigh. The whistle blew, but it was too late, and the damage was done.
Xena didn’t get up.
She rolled onto her side, a sharp, pained gasp slipping from her lips, one hand clutching her ribs.
And then Paige saw the blood.
Her brain barely kept up with her body.
One second, she was sitting in the stands, and the next, she was moving.
Nika shouted after her, but Paige didn’t stop.
She was on the field before she could think twice, shoving past staff, past trainers, past everyone, until she was right there—right in front of Xena.
Xena was trying to push herself up, but she barely made it an inch before her body gave up.
"Fuck," she hissed, dropping her head back onto the grass. "That hurt."
Paige stared, frozen.
Xena’s lip was split. A bruise was already forming along her cheekbone. Blood smeared down the side of her thigh where the cleat had caught her.
She looked wrecked.
And for some reason, Paige couldn’t fucking breathe.
"Goddamn it, Xena," she managed, voice tight.
Xena blinked up at her, dazed. Then—because of course she fucking would—she smirked.
"Didn’t know you cared, Bueckers."
Paige’s jaw clenched. "Shut up."
She dropped to her knees beside her, hands hovering uselessly. What the fuck was she supposed to do?
Xena winced as she shifted, sucking in a sharp breath. "I’m fine."
"You’re bleeding," Paige snapped.
Xena’s smirk didn’t fade. If anything, it deepened, eyes flickering over Paige’s face like she was committing every second of this to memory.
"You’re mad," she murmured.
Paige exhaled sharply, shaking her head. "No, I’m—" She stopped, grinding her teeth. "Fuck, Xena, yeah. Yeah, I’m mad."
Xena hummed, head tilting slightly. "Why?"
Paige opened her mouth, then shut it.
Because she didn’t know.
Because this was supposed to be Xena’s thing—getting under her skin, making her feel off-balance.
But now Paige was the one sitting here, angry and scared over someone she had sworn she wasn’t supposed to care about.
The medical team finally pushed through, kneeling beside her.
Paige started to move back, but -
A hand wrapped around her wrist.
She looked down.
Xena’s grip was weak but intentional.
"Paige," she murmured.
And for the first time, there was no teasing in her voice. No smirk. No walls.
Just her.
Paige swallowed hard. "Yeah?"
Xena’s fingers tightened slightly.
Then, so quietly Paige almost didn’t catch it—
"You came."
Paige felt those words.
A lump rose in her throat, and she wanted to look away, wanted to not feel the way Xena’s voice had softened just for her.
But she couldn’t.
So she just curled her fingers around Xena’s hand—just for a second, just long enough to anchor them both.
Then she let go.
Xena’s eyes tracked her as the medics lifted her onto a stretcher, the connection breaking as they started moving.
Paige sat there, in the middle of the field, hands curling into fists.
She had no idea what the fuck had just happened.
But she knew one thing.
She wasn’t walking away from this the same.
The moment Paige stepped off the field, the questions started.
First, from her teammates. Nika was the loudest, of course. "What the fuck was that, Paige? Since when do you care about soccer?"
Paige ignored her, pushing past them, heading straight home.
Then came the media.
She saw her name already trending on Twitter before she even left the stadium. “Paige Bueckers rushes onto the soccer field—concern or controversy?”
Clips were circulating. People were asking why she —a basketball player, someone who had no business in that game—had reacted like that.
And Paige didn’t have an answer. Because she didn’t know either.
Paige couldn’t sleep. She had tried. She had laid in bed, stared at the ceiling, turned her phone on Do Not Disturb.
But every time she closed her eyes, she saw Xena.
On the ground. Bleeding.
The look in her eyes when she had reached for Paige’s wrist. You came.
Paige exhaled sharply, rolling onto her side, clenching her jaw. Why the fuck did it bother her this much? Why did she feel like she had taken a hit just watching Xena go down?
Frustrated, she grabbed her phone, unlocking it without thinking.
Her fingers hovered over Instagram.
She had never searched Xena before. Not once. But now?
Now she was pulling up her profile before she could talk herself out of it.
And fuck, she hated how easy it was to find her. Hated how her username popped up immediately like Paige had been meant to do this.
Her page was a mix of game clips, candid locker room moments, and too many fucking thirst traps.
Paige scrolled mindlessly, stopping on a video from last season.
The caption was simple: “One of my best games.”
Paige clicked it.
The clip played.
Xena—fucking hell, Xena was dominant.
Paige had watched her play earlier, had seen how good she was, but watching it now—raw, unfiltered, no distractions—was different.
She was fast. Calculated. Ruthless.
Paige clenched her jaw.
She had known Xena was good. But this? This was something else.
And that made the anger creep in again.
Because this was the girl who had been knocked to the ground tonight. This was the girl who had been targeted.
Paige scrolled back up to the top of Xena’s page, biting the inside of her cheek.
Then she saw it.
A recent post. A photo dump.
Most of it was random—locker room pictures, city views—but the last slide caught her attention.
A spread of food. A simple caption: “My favorites.”
Paige stared at it.
An idea started forming before she could stop it.
She sat up, rubbing a hand over her face. What the fuck are you doing, Paige?
She didn’t know.
She didn’t want to know.
But somehow, she was already grabbing her jacket, slipping on sneakers, and heading for the door.
Paige didn’t ask where Xena was.
Not directly.
Instead, she messaged someone she knew from the soccer team, throwing in a casual, “Hey, is Xena okay?”
The response came back fast.
“She’s fine. Got stitched up. Why?”
Paige hesitated. Then—
"Just wondering. Heard she got hit bad."
The reply came almost immediately.
"You could just ask her yourself, you know."
Paige ignored that.
Instead, she sent a quick, “Where is she staying?”
There was a pause. Then—
"…Why?"
Paige clenched her jaw. Then, before she could overthink it, she typed,
"Coach asked me to check in."
A lie. A stupid, unnecessary lie.
But it worked.
A minute later, she had an address. And before she could think, before she could stop herself—Paige was already on her way.
The apartment door looked normal. Paige had no idea what she had expected. She stood there for a second, bag in hand, shifting her weight.
Then she knocked.
A few seconds passed.
Then—
The door opened, and there she was.
Xena.
Freshly stitched, bandaged, but still looking at Paige like she was the biggest surprise of the night.
Paige stared.
Xena arched a brow. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
Paige clenched her jaw, lifting the bag. "Brought food."
Xena’s eyes flickered to it, then back to Paige.
For a beat, she said nothing.
Then—slow, taunting, amused—she leaned against the doorframe.
"You stalked my Instagram, didn’t you?"
Paige hated how hot her face felt.
"Shut up," she muttered, shoving the bag into Xena’s hands.
Xena took it, still watching her, still smirking.
Then she opened the bag.
Paige saw the exact moment she recognized the food.
The smirk faded. And for the first time tonight, Xena looked at her softly.
Paige’s stomach twisted.
She hated it. Hated it because she didn’t know why she had done this. Didn’t know why Xena’s face, battered and bruised, made her want to do something, anything to fix it.
Xena studied her for a second longer.
Then she sighed, stepping back, opening the door wider.
"You coming in or what?"
Paige hesitated.
Then—before she could change her mind—she stepped inside.
The first thing Paige noticed about Xena’s room was the smell. It was clean. Not in a clinical way, but fresh—like vanilla and something warm she couldn’t place.
The second thing she noticed?
It was small. Smaller than she expected, considering how big Xena’s presence always felt.
And the third thing? Xena was struggling.
She had the bag of food clutched in one hand while the other pressed against her ribs as she limped toward her bed.
Paige rolled her eyes, stepping forward before she could stop herself. "Jesus, just sit down."
Xena let out a breathy chuckle, plopping onto the mattress with an exaggerated wince. "Damn, Bueckers. Didn’t know you were so bossy."
Paige ignored the way that sent heat down her spine.
"Didn’t know you were so bad at getting your ass kicked," she shot back.
Xena smirked up at her, eyes sharp despite the bruises forming along her jaw. "It's soccer. Shit happens. "
Paige crossed her arms. "Who was the one who tackled you?"
Xena waved a hand, tearing open the takeout container. "Some frustrated defender. It happens."
Paige frowned. "Yeah, well, it shouldn’t happen."
Xena arched a brow. "What, you gonna fight them for me, Bueckers?"
Paige scowled. "Maybe."
The smirk on Xena's lips deepened, and Paige immediately regretted saying anything.
Xena balanced the food container on her lap, shifting slightly—only to wince when the movement pulled at her ribs.
Paige sighed, stepping forward without thinking.
"Here, idiot." She grabbed the container before Xena could drop it, sitting down at the edge of the bed and placing it on the nightstand instead.
Xena blinked at her.
Paige blinked back.
And suddenly, the space between them felt very small. Too small.
Paige’s pulse hammered against her ribs, but she kept her face neutral.
Xena, on the other hand? She knew.
Paige could see it in her eyes—the slow realization, the way her lips curled up like she was about to say something dangerous.
Paige needed to change the subject. Fast.
"So, when can you play again?"
Xena leaned back on her elbows, smirk still intact. "Couple weeks. Maybe less if I can sneak past the trainers."
Paige rolled her eyes. "Yeah, ‘cause that’s a smart idea."
Xena shrugged. "Gotta do what I gotta do."
Paige narrowed her eyes. "You’re an idiot."
"And yet," Xena mused, gaze dropping—slowly, deliberately—to Paige’s mouth. "You’re here."
Paige swallowed.
Her brain short-circuited for a full three seconds before she forced herself to look away.
Bad idea.
Her eyes landed on Xena’s thigh—bruised, but still strong, still—fuck.
She shot to her feet, clearing her throat. "I should go."
Xena tilted her head, amused. "Already?"
"Yeah," Paige muttered, suddenly needing distance. "You need to rest."
Xena didn’t look convinced. "You sure you don’t wanna stay?"
The words were innocent enough, but the look in her eyes?
Not so much.
Paige clenched her jaw.
She wanted to. God, did she want to.
But Xena was injured, and Paige was too wired, too restless, too fucking tempted.
She needed to leave before she does something stupid.
So instead, she dug her phone out of her pocket and handed it to Xena. "Here."
She raised a brow. "What’s this for?"
"Your number," Paige said flatly. "In case you need anything."
She hummed, taking the phone. "So thoughtful, Bueckers."
Paige ignored her and waited as she typed, fingers moving lazily across the screen. After a moment, she handed the phone back.
Paige glanced at the contact name.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star
Paige huffed, shoving her phone into her pocket. "Really?"
Xena grinned. "Accurate, though."
Paige rolled her eyes and made her way to the door, pausing with her hand on the handle. For a second, she considered saying something else—something normal, like rest up or see you later.
But she didn’t trust her mouth not to betray her. So she just nodded and walked out.
Paige barely made it back to her dorm before her phone vibrated. She pulled it out, expecting Nika or one of her teammates.
But instead—
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Appreciate the food, Bueckers. Didn't know you had a soft side.
Paige stared at the screen, thumb hovering over the keyboard.
For a moment, she considered ignoring it.
But then—
Paige: Don’t get used to it.
A beat passed.
Then—
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: No promises.
Paige groaned, flopping onto her bed.
This was a bad idea. A really bad idea. So why the fuck did she already want to see her again?
Paige hadn’t seen Xena in two weeks. Not on campus. Not at the gym. Nowhere. But the texts? Those hadn’t stopped.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Do you always take care of your enemies like this? Or am I special?
Paige: Enemies? You flatter yourself.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: I tend to have that effect on people.
Paige: Delusional.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Are you thinking about me right now?
Paige: No.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Liar.
Paige had stared at her screen way too long after that one.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Send me a pic.
Paige: Of what?
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Of you. What else?
Paige had scoffed, rolling her eyes. Not happening. But the heat crawling up her neck had been undeniable.
Paige: Why do you even have my number?
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: You gave it to me.
Paige: Biggest mistake of my life.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: But you’re still texting me.
Paige had shut her phone off after that one.
Two Weeks Later
Paige was leaving class, one hand adjusting the strap of her bag, the other pulling out her phone.
And then—
It started ringing. She frowned at the screen.
Xena.
She hesitated, then swiped to answer. "What—"
"Look right."
Paige froze. Her head turned instinctively.
And there she was.
Leaning against the wall, phone in one hand, a smug fucking smirk playing on her lips.
Paige’s breath hitched.
Because Xena wasn’t just here—she's fine now.
No limping. No injuries. Just standing there, grinning like she hadn’t just made Paige’s heart nearly combust.
"You’re—" Paige started, words failing. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
Xena pushed off the wall, pocketing her phone. "Came to see you, obviously."
Paige narrowed her eyes. "Why?"
Xena stepped closer. "Because I owe you dinner."
Paige blinked. "What?"
"For last week." Xena shrugged. "Consider it a thank-you."
Paige crossed her arms. "You don’t owe me anything."
Xena tilted her head, eyes flickering down Paige’s body slowly, deliberately. "Let me take you out, Bueckers."
Paige swallowed. "You’re impossible."
Xena grinned. "And you like it."
Paige hated how true that was.
Xena drove them to some lowkey spot just outside campus—a hole-in-the-wall diner with neon lights and a too-good smell wafting through the air.
Paige raised a brow. "This is where you’re taking me?"
Xena smirked. "What, you too fancy for greasy food?"
Paige rolled her eyes. "I just didn’t take you for the type."
"And what type am I?" Xena challenged, opening the door for her.
Paige stepped inside, glancing at her. "Annoying."
Xena chuckled. "You say that like it’s a bad thing."
They sat in a booth, menus in hand. Xena didn’t even look at hers. "You should get the cheeseburger."
Paige raised a brow. "And why’s that?"
"Because it’s the best thing here," she said simply. "And you look like someone who needs to be impressed."
Paige rolled her eyes. "Cocky."
"Accurate."
"Fine." Paige sighed, closing the menu. "But if it’s shit, I’m never listening to you again."
Xena grinned. "Deal."
Food came fast. Conversation flowed faster.
Somewhere between bites of what was, unfortunately, the best cheeseburger Paige had ever had, and Xena's teasing remarks about how she should "listen to her more," something shifted.
It wasn’t just banter anymore. It was easy.
It was Xena asking about her upcoming game and actually listening when Paige answered.
It was Paige asking about Xena's s recovery, about how she really felt after the injury.
It was Xena admitting, after a beat of hesitation, "It fucked me up, Bueckers."
And Paige, without thinking, reaching across the table, thumb brushing over Xena’s wrist. "You’ll be back."
Xena holding her gaze, softer than ever. "You think so?"
Paige nodding. "I know so."
And then—
The moment broke.
Xena smirked, pulling her hand back. "Careful, Bueckers. You’re starting to sound like you care."
Paige rolled her eyes, heat creeping up her neck. "Shut up and eat your food."
The drive back in the car was quiet. Not awkward. Just charged.
Xena drummed her fingers on the steering wheel, throwing her a glance. "Did you have fun?"
Paige sighed dramatically. "Shockingly, yes."
She grinned. "Knew it."
They pulled up outside Paige’s dorm.
Paige unbuckled, hesitating. "Guess I’ll see you around."
Xena smirked. "You will."
Paige went to open the door. But then—
"Wait."
She turned back. "What—"
Xena leaned over, voice dropping. "What if I don’t wanna wait another two weeks?"
Paige’s breath hitched.
Xena’s gaze flickered to her lips—brief, intentional, dangerous.
Paige’s pulse spiked. "Then don’t."
Xena exhaled sharply, fingers tapping against the wheel. "Fuck, Bueckers."
Paige smirked. "Goodnight, Xena."
And with that, she stepped out, closing the door behind her.
Her phone buzzed before she even reached the door.
Xena - Hot Soccer Star: Goodnight, Paige.
It had been a week.
A whole week since that night at the diner. Since the teasing, the eye contact, and the electricity humming between them.
A whole week since Paige had last heard from Xena.
At first, she ignored the nagging feeling in her chest. Maybe Xena was busy. Maybe practice was brutal. Maybe—
But then, nothing. No texts. No calls.
Paige had tried.
Paige: Yo, ghosting me already?
Paige: Xena?
Paige: Seriously, what’s up?
Paige: Fine. Fuck this.
She wasn’t one to chase. And she sure as hell wasn’t about to start now. But then she saw her.
Paige was walking past towards the athlete's center when her breath hitched.
There, standing against the glass windows, was Xena.
And she wasn’t alone.
Some girl stood close—too close—smiling up at her.
Paige watched as the girl reached out, fingers trailing along Xena’s wrist before moving up to touch her cheek.
Xena just stood there, smiling softly, nodding at whatever the girl was saying.
Something inside Paige snapped.
Before she could stop herself, she walked inside, straight past them.
"Paige—"
Xena’s voice cut through the air, sharp, urgent. But Paige didn’t stop.
Didn’t look.
Didn’t care.
Not when her chest was burning. Not when her throat felt tight. Not when she knew damn well that she had no right to feel like this but couldn’t help it.
She stormed into their locker room, hands bracing against the cool metal, taking deep breaths.
Get it together.
She wasn’t yours.
Xena could do whatever the fuck she wanted.
Paige clenched her fists, swallowing hard.
So why the hell did it feel like she’d just been punched in the gut?
Her teammates noticed. Nika nudged her as they laced up. "You good, dude?"
Paige forced a smirk. "Always."
Azzi shot her a look. "You’ve been weird all practice."
"I’m fine," Paige snapped, harsher than she meant to.
Her teammates shared glances but didn’t push.
After practice, as they packed up, Nika tossed an arm over Paige’s shoulder. "We’re hitting the Tavern tonight. You in?"
Paige barely hesitated. "Fuck yeah."
She wasn’t about to sit in her dorm thinking about Xena.
She needed a distraction.
And if that distraction came in the form of loud music and shots of tequila, so be it.
The Tavern
The energy hit her the moment they stepped inside.
Music thrummed through the air, bodies swaying, laughter echoing across the dimly lit space.
Paige let herself relax, let the atmosphere dull the sharp edges of her thoughts—until she saw her.
Xena was sitting in a booth, with her teammates.
A drink in hand, eyes distant, lost in thought.
No girl.
No soft smiles.
Just her.
Paige’s stomach twisted.
She wanted to go to her.
She wanted to demand an explanation, to yell at her, to—
No.
She reminded herself of what she saw earlier. Instead, she headed for the bar. She had barely ordered when—
"Déjà vu, huh?"
Paige stiffened.
That voice. Low. Amused. Fucking dangerous.
She turned her head.
Xena had slid onto the stool beside her, close enough that Paige could feel the heat radiating off her.
Paige narrowed her eyes ahead. "What do you want?"
Xena answers softly. "To talk."
Paige didn’t turn. "Not in the mood."
Xena tilted her head, studying her. "You sure? Because I think you’re always in the mood to fight with me."
Paige finally looked at her, and fuck, there was fire in her eyes. Not that she can help it at this point. "You think this is a game?"
Xena sighed, leaning in. "No. But I think you miss me."
Paige’s jaw clenched. "You disappeared."
Xena sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Paige—"
"Don’t fucking Paige me!" she snapped, turning in her seat. "You disappear for a week. No texts, no calls. And then I see you, all smiles, letting some girl fucking touch you I —" and Paige stopped herself, exhaling hard. "It doesn’t fucking matter."
Paige was willing herself to cool the fuck down because people are already staring.
"Can you let me explain?" Xena was trying to hold her arm but Paige kept swatting it away.
"Fuck off, Xena." Paige was hurt, though she had no right. But still, she thought they are on the same page. She felt betrayed.
Xena stilled, maybe she felt herself on the verge of also losing it. She stand beside Paige, who's still sitting.
"Come outside. Let's talk." Xena wasn't about to make them a spectacle in front of their schoolmates.
"Oh, so now you want to talk?" Paige bit back hard. She wasn't about to lose to this godforsaken woman who's making her absolutely mad.
Xena sighed deeply, and loudly before looking at her eyes again. The lights passed through it, and although it was just a moment, Paige clearly saw the look on Xena's eyes.
Red-rimmed, troubled, hurt, lost, almost pleading eyes.
So before she says something stupid again, she stands up, grabbed Xena by the hand towards the back of the pub.
"Now what? I'm giving you two minutes to talk and then I'm done here." Paige deadpanned.
Xena hesitated, jaw clenching. "I lost my phone."
Paige frowned. "What?"
"Someone took it at the gym. Or I misplaced it. I don’t fucking know." Xena looked away, exhaling sharply. "And between training, school, and therapy, I just—I didn’t have time to explain."
Xena continues, eyes glassy, frustrated. "And then I see you today, and you just walk past me like I meant nothing."
Paige was about to crumble, but the thing that ticked her off still lingers. "You were happily smiling with some girl — "
"She’s my fucking therapist."
Paige stopped.
Her heart pounded. "What?"
Xena exhaled sharply, running her hands through her hair. "She’s my therapist. She was checking in on me, okay? My stitches, my wrist, my fucking cheekbones. She was happy my bruises are gone, that I’m good now."
Paige swallowed hard.
Her throat burned. Her anger cracked, giving way to new emotions.
Guilt.
Shame.
Fucking everything at once.
Paige exhaled, voice softer now. "I’m sorry."
Xena scoffed. "Yeah? Didn’t fucking seem like it when you were out here losing your shit on me."
Paige clenched her jaw. "I thought—" She cut herself off, hands balling into fists. "Fuck, Xena."
Xena looked at her, deeply, daring her to do much worse. "You're so hot when you're jealous, did you know that?"
And suddenly, there wasn’t any space between them anymore.
Paige surged forward.
Their lips crashed together, months of tension exploding between them.
Xena groaned, fingers tangling in Paige’s hoodie, pulling her in harder.
Paige pushed her against the wall, deepening the kiss, teeth scraping, hands gripping hips—fuck, fuck, fuck.
It was all heat, all fire, all fucking want.
People started filtering out of the bar, their voices pulling them apart, but Xena wasn’t done.
She grabbed Paige’s wrist, pulling her toward the parking lot.
"Come with me."
Paige didn’t hesitate.
They reached Xena’s car, and the moment the doors shut—
They were on each other again.
Xena straddled Paige in the passenger’s seat, hands in her hair, kissing her senseless.
Paige groaned into her mouth, nails digging into Xena’s thighs. "Fuck, you drive me insane."
Xena panted, lips swollen. "Right back at you."
Paige’s hands wandered, Xena’s breath hitched—
But then—
A voice outside.
They both froze.
Laughter.
People walking past.
Paige swallowed hard, forehead resting against Xena’s. "We should stop."
Xena exhaled sharply, hands still gripping her waist. "Yeah."
Neither of them moved.
Xena smirked. "You’re not letting me go."
Paige chuckled, eyes dark. "Not a chance."
"Come back with me," Xena offered, voice low, edged with something undeniable.
Paige stared at her.
This wasn’t a question. It was a challenge. A dare.
Her body screamed yes.
Her mind? Dangerous. Stupid.
Xena smirked, reading her hesitation. "Scared?"
Paige’s jaw ticked. "Drive."
Xena’s grin was pure fucking sin.
The second the door shut behind them, it was over.
Paige shoved Xena against it, her mouth crashing onto hers, hands tangling in her hoodie, hungry.
Xena groaned, pulling her in, her grip rough, her touch possessive.
The air was thick, charged, fucking unbearable.
Paige barely registered the room, only that the back of her legs hit the bed, and then they were falling into it.
Xena pinned her down, lips trailing down her neck, teeth grazing, teasing.
Paige sucked in a sharp breath, gripping Xena’s waist, pulling her closer, needing more, needing everything—
A pause.
Xena hovered above her, breathless, eyes scanning Paige’s face.
A silent question.
Paige swallowed, heartbeat hammering against her ribs.
Then she reached up, fingers curling into Xena’s shirt, pulling her back down.
"Shut up and keep going."
Xena’s grin was the last thing Paige saw before she stopped thinking entirely.
Paige had spent too much time fighting this.
Fighting Xena.
Fighting herself.
But there were only so many nights she could lie awake, replaying every look, every touch, every fucking feeling that Xena made her feel.
So, standing outside the athlete dorms, hands stuffed in her hoodie pocket, heart pounding like a goddamn drum, Paige inhaled deeply and knocked.
It only took three seconds for the door to swing open.
Xena stood there in sweats and a cropped UConn soccer tee, hair damp like she’d just showered, eyes widening at the sight of her.
"Paige?"
No teasing. No smirking. Just genuine surprise.
Paige swallowed. "Can I come in?"
Xena hesitated for a second before stepping aside. "Yeah, of course."
Paige walked in, pacing once before stopping, turning to face her. "Okay, look."
Xena crossed her arms, leaning against the door. "Should I be worried?"
Paige exhaled sharply, shaking her head. "No. I mean—fuck, I don’t know." She ran a hand through her hair, huffing. "This is—"
"Spit it out, P," Xena said softly.
Paige locked eyes with her. "Be mine."
Xena’s breath hitched.
Silence hung between them—thick, heavy, waiting to crack.
"Paige—"
"No, listen," Paige interrupted, stepping closer, voice firm now. "I don’t want anyone else. I don’t want the games, or the push and pull. I don’t want to spend another fucking second pretending like I don’t think about you all the time. I just want you."
Xena just stared at her, like she wasn’t sure if this was real.
"So be mine," Paige repeated, softer this time.
Xena let out a small, breathless laugh, running a hand through her hair. "You make it sound so easy."
Paige tilted her head. "Isn’t it?"
Xena looked at her, searching, feeling.
And then she was closing the distance, grabbing Paige’s hoodie, pulling her in until their lips met, slow and deep, nothing like before—
This wasn’t fire or recklessness or anger.
This was certainty.
This was everything Paige had been waiting for.
Xena pulled back just enough to whisper, "Yeah. Okay. I’m yours."
Paige grinned, feeling light, victorious, complete.
"Damn right you are."
The world didn't change overnight.
But they did. And maybe that was enough.
The days passed, filled with stolen kisses in hallways, late-night talks in Xena’s dorm, meeting both their families. Imagine Paige's surprise when she finally learns about Leo, and how Xena has been plotting about her. Damn, the butterflies on Paige's stomach were indescribable.
Paige sat front row at Xena’s next game, arms crossed, locked in.
When Xena scored, she ran past the stands, pointing at Paige with a cocky smirk.
Paige only shook her head, smirking right back.
Xena came to every basketball game she could, watching Paige dominate.
One night after a win, Paige found Xena waiting by the locker room doors, arms crossed.
"You were a little off in the third quarter," Xena teased.
Paige rolled her eyes. "Shut up."
Xena leaned in, lips brushing her ear. "Come over tonight?"
Paige smirked. "You don’t even have to ask."
They weren’t perfect.
They bickered. They teased. They pushed each other’s buttons.
But they also made each other better.
Stronger. Happier.
And maybe they didn’t have it all figured out yet—
But Paige knew one thing for sure.
Whatever this was?
She wasn’t letting go.
Not now.
Not ever.

Maxis Lost & Found and Default Replacement List | Resources: Sims 2 | Improving the Look of the Game
Here is a resource list of the Default Replacements I use to improve the look of my game, as well as "Maxis Lost & Found items" to add a little more variety.
I play a mostly CC-free game but I've also included a list of the tiny amount of "Maxis match" CC that I use, so if you download my lots and you have these things installed the houses should look like they do in the previews.
Can you believe the Sims 2 is over 20 years old!? It will look like it's hardly aged a day after you put these defaults in. 🤭 I also recommend Reshade for a truly up-to-date experience.

one of the most freeing things you can do in ttrpgs is let go of the idea that your player characters should be/are morally good. Once you've accepted that your characters might be bad people or do bad things, the possibility space of what your characters can do opens up wide. Plus, you no longer have to contort your setting into bizarre and problematic shapes to make sure your player characters are always in the right.
a good example of this is combat. The normal approach is:
violence is what our characters will do. therefore we must make it so it is good for them to do violence. therefore their enemies must deserve it. therefore we will create a class of being for them to fight that is inherently evil and deserving of violence.
Which, needless to say, veers into extremely racist territory extremely easily.
Whereas once you no longer need player characters to be in the right, you can instead get:
violence is what our characters will do. killing people is bad, and when our characters kill people they're doing a bad thing.
which is actually a far less fucked up set of ideas to express!
like, okay, a concrete example. Right now, I'm playing in a Vampire the Masquerade game. My character, Molly, follows the Path of the Feral Heart and is in the blurry border between the Anarchs and the Sabbat. What this means in practice is that she's totally abandonned any pretences of being human and instead embraces being a monstrous predator, with no qualms about killing to survive and get what she wants, and who is essentially a Vampire Terrorist who cheerfully murders, sets bombs and massacres humans in order to destabilise the vampire government.
Molly is not a good person. She is, in fact, a terrifying monster! You aren't meant to agree with the things she does and says! And, sure, when she explains her backstory, you can see how she got like this, but that doesn't make it okay, her ending up like this is meant to be itself tragic, because in a better world she wouldn't be like this.
The story becomes more interesting because I can, in fact, play a character who does horrible things and let them be horrible. Playing a sabbat-sympathising path-follower would be entirely meaningless if the game contorted itself so nothing she did was ever actually horrific.

Jegus, it's been so long since I've gotten to talk about Ultimate Chaos. Okay, so before pokemon and mtg conquered the ccg market, there used to be hundreds of ccgs. For a brief time in the 90s you could get a ccg of the x-files, or highlander, or of boris valejo art with little cardboard cones you had to fold out of cards to play. There were some great games too, battletech and legend of the five rings and doomtrooper and vampire the masquerade and on the edge and netrunner and call of cthulhu. Okay, so there were magazines that just covered shit in the CCG scene, and one April Fools edition of, I don't remember, Scry or Wizard or something, published the rules for Ultimate Chaos. (It was InQuest) Ultimate Chaos is a CCG game you can play with cards from any CCG, mixed together. And not just deck v deck, you could shuffle a bunch of starwars cards into your pokemon deck and spash some marvel cards in there for good measure, and it would do...something...against your friends green/black/illuminati: new world order deck. I LOVED Ultimate Chaos, and I collected the weirdest CCGS I could find to make weirder theme decks for it. Eventually I made a TTRPG inspired by it, and that eventually turned into a webseries I'm working on right fucking now. And I found a digital copy of the rules online, so long ago it was on a dial-up modem. And I still have them, because...well autism I guess? Because I'm serious about data storage? Full rules under the cut. Too large to be put under a cut? I don't know man.

Ultimate Chaos
Return To DavidASpitzley.org (Must be where I found it?)
Back in the early days of Collectible Card Games, InQuest magazine came up with something called "Ultimate Chaos", where each player played a different card game. They played every game on the market against each other, and it sounded like a lot of fun. Inspired by those articles, my playing group tried it several times, and based on those experiences, I came up with the following rules (or perhaps "guidelines" would be a better word) to make the game work more smoothly. They are based around the pretense that the game is a conflict between entities of Chaos who are more interested in amusement than actual victory. The heart of the rules are 1) a set of guidelines for figuring out how to apply cards from one game to another, 2) a victory point mechanic that gives points for doing interesting things as well as successful things, and 3) a mechanism for getting cards from each game into the hands of other players to improve the odds of amusing interactions. I guess you can judge for yourself whether this worked or not. You'll note that the examples focus on On the Edge, Feng Shui, Illuminati, and Star Wars. Not surprisingly, those were the games we played most often.
Rules of Engagement for Lords of Chaos, by Priority
I. Ignorance: Ignorance of another player’s rules is the ultimate defense, at least once or twice. Any move which would have been stupid if the appropriate rules were known may be retracted, at least until the other players get annoyed.
II. Variation: No player will be restricted in a current game to a rules arrangement decided upon in a previous game. Alternate arguments may always be advanced.
III. Roles: Players are players, cards are cards. Any effect which targets cards in its native game does so under any other rules, and any effect which targets players in its native game does so in any other rules.
IV. Specificity: Any effect which uses a specific Rules Term (defined as a concept defined within the rulebooks for the game) applies against any matching specific Rules Term under other rules. Matching requires that the Term be used as the same part of speech; i.e. Turn as a unit of time does not match Turn as something which is done to cards.
V. Attack Flexibility: The active player may make attacks under his choice of any rules sets directly involved in the attack.
VI. Homology: Effects by game A on game B should be resolved using the closest possible game mechanic in game B VII. Reality Bubbles: Cards and players are affected by combat and global effects under their own rules, applying Specificity and Homology independently of other cards and players.
VIII. Filling Holes: When there is no appropriate matching point between two games, attempt to use the mechanic from the acting game as directly as possible in the subject game.
IX. Suspension of Disbelief: A combination of events should still be allowed even if it seems silly (such as a foot soldier attacking a space ship) if there is no rule which can be raised against it.
Examples Alter-Edge (On the Edge) reads “all non-Astrals suffer -2 Power”. Reality Bubbles says that the effect on each card must be considered separately. By Specificity, a Star Destroyer (Star Wars) suffers a -2 Power, but does not suffer a reduction in Armor, even though by Homology Armor would be considered as DP by the On the Edge player. Shadowfist, on the other hand, has a Specific term “Power”, but since that is a player characteristic, and Alter-Edge affects cards, we drop back to Homology, and Shadowfist characters suffer -2 Fighting, since Fighting is the closest match to Power. Again using Homology, however, any Shadowfist Magic character would count as Astral, and would not suffer the penalty.
Star Wars wants to play Presence of the Force, which adds one force icon to each side of a location, against Illuminati, which has Japan, the Boy Sprouts, and the central Illuminati card in play (UFOs, for the sake of argument). Based on Homology, Star Wars can only play the card on Japan, since a Place is the closest match to a “location”. However, Illuminati doesn’t have a Homologue for Activating Force so by Filling Holes Illuminati activates Force as identified in the Star Wars rules, and may use it as appropriate, including picking up the card at the end of each turn, Using it to activate captured Star Wars cards, etc. Shadowfist, on the other hand, has the concept of generating Power, and Homology would suggest using those rules for activating Force.
On the Edge declares an attack against a Star Wars Star Destroyer. While under Star Wars rules the attacking character should have to be at the same location, On the Edge invokes Attack Flexibility and uses his own targeting rules. This means that the Star Destroyer, which is guarding Tatooine, is a first rank card, and may be attacked (any passengers would probably be second rank). Shadowfist indicates a desire to send along aid; since On the Edge doesn’t have rules for this, Filling Holes declares it legal under Shadowfist rules. Each attacker sends one character (though Shadowfist could send more).
Under Reality Bubbles: Star Wars is faced by two attackers. Under its rules, she (by Homology) adds the Shadowfist character’s Fighting to the On the Edge character’s Attack Power and compares the total to the Star Destroyer’s Power. If the attacking total is greater, the difference is suffered as Battle Damage normally (i.e. Forfeit or Force loss).
By Homology, On the Edge is involved in a Gang Up attack. This doesn’t mean much, but does place the assistance in context. Under the On the Edge rules, he (by Homology) compares his character’s Attack Power with the Star Destroyer’s Armor. If the Armor is greater or equal, the attacking character is killed. The Shadowfist character takes damage equal to (by Homology) the Power of the Star Destroyer.
Were the Star Wars player able to draw Destiny, the attacking side would be faced with the problem of Attrition. This would fall under a combination of Filling Holes and Homology: since On the Edge has no rules for Attrition-type damage (only On the Edge matters by the first consideration), apply the Star Wars rules as closely as possible; since the subject of Attrition determines what gets whacked, On the Edge argues that by Homology, the number in the lower left of the card is the Attrition value, and applies the Attrition to the Shadowfist character. Shadowfist points out that the character isn’t worth enough Attrition to cover the loss, so On the Edge, the original attacker, is forced to discard (Homologous to Lose) enough cards to cover the remaining Attrition loss.
Shadowfist uses his White Disciple to do 2 points of damage to the same Star Destroyer listed above. Since Star Wars has no Homologue for ongoing damage, Filling Holes argues that the Star Destroyer gains two damage counters, handled as indicated in the Shadowfist rules. However, since damage in Shadowfist reduces Fighting, not Power, the Star Destroyer will be unaffected, except when fighting a Shadowfist card, in which case (by Reality Bubbles) the Shadowfist card will treat the Star Destroyer’s Power as Fighting, and thus the damage counters will apply in that circumstance. At no point could the Star Destroyer be destroyed by these damage counters, however.
Scoring for Ultimate Chaos There are several ways to score points in a game of Ultimate Chaos.
1. Nomination: Any player may receive a point if another player nominates them and it is seconded by a third player. Nomination is encouraged for suitably twisted applications of game logic, witty card play, and general elegance in the midst of anarchy.
2. Eliminating the Competition: A player receives 2 points for knocking another player out of the game. In addition, a player receives 1 point for being the last player in the game.
3. Achieving Native Victory Conditions: There are several categories of Victory Conditions: Isolated victory conditions are those which can be achieved without interacting with other players, such as accumulating Influence (On the Edge), controlling 13 Groups (Illuminati), or swaying 10 Population markers (Kult). A player fulfilling an isolated victory condition receive 3 points. These points may only be received once for each victory condition. Conquest/survival victory conditions are those which require the player be the last one standing, either by conquering all of the others or being the last one not destroyed by some other means. A player with conquest/survival victory conditions receives 1 point every time a player is eliminated by any means. Theft/Bodycount victory conditions are those which require a player to achieve smaller victories against opponents without necessarily removing them from play, such as killing 25 points worth of opponents’ warriors (Doomtrooper) or stealing 7 Agenda points from your opponent (Runner victory conditions from Netrunner). Each time a player meets a Theft/Bodycount victory condition, they receive 2 points. These points may be received multiple times. In the event a game used in Ultimate Chaos does not have victory conditions which fall into one of these categories, the player must submit to the other players an alternate system for scoring points.
4. Achieving Adopted Victory Conditions: Under some circumstances (generally involving Filling Holes), a player may be able to meet the victory conditions of another game. This is worth 1 bonus point plus the listed value in section 3, and may often be grounds for Nomination.
5. The Power of Chaos
5A. In all the Confusion...: Whenever a player takes an action which significantly but amusingly confuses things, they may nominate themselves for 1 point.
5B. The Jumpin’ Jesus Phenomenon: Whenever three or more players become involved in a single sequence of actions, every player involved receives 1 point. (If 6 or more Lords should be insane enough to play at once, this should be changed to "more than three players") If all players agree before the game, a player may “borrow” some portion of another player’s rules at any time, but must pay one point to the “lending” player
The Eye of Chaos
An optional amusement which may be introduced into Ultimate Chaos is the Eye of Chaos. The Eye increases the volume of card exchanges within the game, improving the odds of unusual card combinations, and generally raising the confusion level.
Forming the Eye of Chaos: After all Lords and Ladies of Chaos have performed the setup for their respective games, each draws two cards at random from their decks. These cards, plus a standard playing card Joker, are then shuffled together to form the Eye. Players with games that use two or more decks may choose cards for the Eye from whichever deck or decks they desire. Basic Use of the Eye: On each player’s turn, he must place one card from his hand at the bottom of the Eye and replace it with the top card of the Eye. This may be done at any time during the turn. The Joker : When a player draws the Joker, he may exchange it at any time for a single card from his own deck or discard pile, or from the discard pile of any other player. When used, or at the end of the turn if it is not used, the Joker must be shuffled back into the Eye.
Other Options: Any time a player discards a card he may choose to place it at the bottom of the Eye. Cards which are “removed from the game” may not be placed in the Eye. If multiple cards are sent to the Eye at the same time, shuffle them before placing them under the Eye. At any time during his turn, a player may choose to shuffle his hand into the Eye, and draw a full starting hand of cards from his own deck. This may only be done once each turn. Any action a player may take which would affect another player’s deck or discard pile may be applied to the Eye. Players may not examine the cards in the Eye without an excuse. Any time a player is able to exchange cards in play or cards from his hand for cards from his own deck or discard pile, he may choose to draw the replacement cards from the Eye. Ex: a Lord playing Magic: the Gathering casting Transmute Artifact may substitute an artifact he has in play for an “artifact” from the Eye, rather than one from his deck.
Note that drawing cards directly from the Eye (rather than trading them in) is discouraged under these rules in order to prevent games such as Battletech and Star Wars from using the Eye to increase the supply of Force they have available. However, when a player does something which is supposed to have that effect (such as recovering Lost Force), use of the Eye should be allowed.
<eof>
i don’t play any trading card games, but…
wouldn’t it be possible for a MtG and a Pokemon deck to duke it out? I mean, they both use numerical values to determine damage and health, right? The Pokemon player could do Pokemon shit on their turn, and the MtG player could do MtG shit on their turn, then plug in the resulting values into the opposing card, right?
I’d like to see someone try, at least

the bass from downstairs was still thumping through the walls, but you barely heard it over the sound of your own irritation.
you weren't even supposed to be here tonight. you told yourself that every time—every time karina batted her lashes at you and you showed up anyway, standing on the sidelines, playing the role of her personal support system when you weren't even hers to claim.
and yet, there you were again, nursing a drink that was long since finished, watching as some frat guy leaned in a little too close, grinning like he actually had a chance. karina wasn't exactly entertaining him, but she wasn't shutting him down either. just smiling, letting him talk, letting him think.
you clenched your jaw, rolling your empty cup between your fingers.
the party had dragged on longer than you wanted, but you stayed—because you always did. because karina wanted you there, and for some reason, that was enough.
you hadn't said anything when she let those frat guys linger a little too close, hadn't reacted when she flashed them that signature smile. you just watched, jaw tight, fingers curled around your empty cup, telling yourself it didn't matter.
but now, the night was winding down, and somehow, as always, you ended up here.
karina's room was quiet, muffling the heavy bass still shaking the walls downstairs. you barely acknowledged her as you dropped into the chair by her desk, pulling out your phone, pretending to be more interested in your screen than the way she moved around the room.
she hummed softly as she unzipped her dress, letting it slip off her shoulders, pooling on the floor. the sound of her humming was the only noise between the two of you, and it filled you with an uncomfortable warmth. "you were really quiet tonight," she mused, stepping out of it, now left in just a tank top and shorts.
you didn't answer. just kept scrolling.
karina turned, watching you for a moment before making her way over. she didn't hesitate before settling onto your lap, straddling you, one hand resting on your shoulder while the other tugged at your phone.
your gripped tightened, eyes still glued to the screen. "don't want to talk about it," you murmured, turning your head to avoid her lips.
a small smile slipped onto her lips, and her hand came up, brushing back a strand of your hair. "c'mon, don't be mad at me," she said, a hint of amusement in her tone, pressing a kiss to your cheek.
you rolled your eyes.
karina clicked her tongue, fingers curling around your jaw, forcing you to meet her gaze. "don't pout, puppy" she cooed. "let's have some fun."
"i'm not in the mood."
"not even for me?" she pressed her hips forward, grinding down on you.
your expression darkened, jaw clenching. "karina—"
karina huffed, her grip on your jaw tightening just slightly. "you're being difficult," she muttered, leaning in, brushing her lips against yours. "thought you liked it when i gave you attention."
"not in the mood," you repeated, pushing her back.
"what, did the guys downstairs upset you?" she said, a knowing smirk slipping onto her face.
Karina stared at your expression for a long moment, waiting for your resounding silence to confirm what she already knew. She chuckled, running a finger along your jaw, leaning in, voice low as she spoke. "are you jealous, puppy?"
your expression hardened.
"shut up," you muttered, grabbing her wrist, releasing her hold on your face. "do you get off being a slut or something?"
karina blinked, eyes widening, her breath hitching slightly. her usual confidence wavered, the teasing expression on her face faltering as a faint blush rose to her cheeks. she opened her mouth like she wanted to say something, but nothing came out.
her wrist flexed slightly in your grip, not in an attempt to pull away, but more like she was unsure of what to do with herself now. for once, she wasn't in control.
"i asked you a question," you murmured, tightening your hold just enough to make her shiver.
karina swallowed hard, lips parting as she stared up at you, the pink blush on her face growing darker. her tongue darted out, wetting her bottom lip, eyes darkening.
"yes," she whispered, a slight whine in her voice.
"what was that?"
she inhaled shakily, her hips shifting against yours. "y-yes, i get off being a slut," she admitted, a soft moan escaping her.
"that's what i thought," you said, voice low, your free hand dropping to her waist. you squeezed her hip, drawing a sharp gasp from her, your hand drifting lower, squeezing her ass. "you're so fucking annoying," you breathed, leaning in, pressing your lips to her jaw.
"oh, fuck," she gasped, hips pressing forward, hands dropping to your chest. "i'm sorry," she mumbled, fingers curling into the fabric of your shirt, clinging onto you as you nipped and sucked at her skin.
you hummed, kissing your way up her neck. "are you?"
karina let out a whimper, her hips grinding down against yours.
"you're the only one i want," she whispered, turning her head, catching your lips in a messy kiss. "the only one who can make me feel this good."
you groaned, the sound muffled against her mouth, your hand gripping her hip, tugging her closer. karina's arms came up, wrapping around your neck, fingers tangling into your hair, moaning against your mouth.
you pulled back, just enough to breathe. "so annoying," you repeated, the words lost to the press of your lips.
karina smiled against your mouth. "i know."
it was all too easy to give in to her. to give her exactly what she wanted. you knew she had you wrapped around her finger, and she didn't hesitate to use it to her advantage.
you hated her, and loved her, and everything in between.
she kissed like a dream, the faint taste of strawberry chapstick lingering on her lips, her tongue hot and eager against yours. a soft moan escaped her as her fingers tangled into your hair, nails grazing your scalp, her hips rolling against you, a breathy whine slipping past her lips.
your grip tightened around her waist before you lifted her effortlessly, turning to drop her onto the bed. she grinned, hands reaching for your shirt, trying to pull you down with her. but you pushed her back, pressing her into the mattress, guiding her onto her stomach, her legs hanging over the edge.
she glanced over her shoulder at you, a teasing glint in her eyes as she let out a soft laugh.
"really? from behind?" she mused, lips forming the slightest pout.
you exhaled sharply, rolling your eyes before gripping her hips, pulling her back until her ass was raised. with one swift motion, you tugged down her shorts and underwear, leaving her bare beneath you.
karina bit her lip, a soft moan escaping her at the cool air.
"you wanted to be fucked, didn't you?" you asked, hand coming down to her ass, a loud slap echoing through the room.
karina jolted forward with a cry, the pain only causing her arousal to grow. "f-fuck," she whimpered, pressing back into your hand, desperate for more. you spanked her again and again, leaving her skin red and warm. karina's cries grew louder, her grip tightening on the sheets, her back arching beautifully.
"please," she moaned, eyes fluttering closed.
you spanked her once more, harder this time, the sound of your hand against her skin ringing in your ears.
"please what?" you murmured, dropping to your knees behind her, pressing a soft kiss to her skin.
"want you," she breathed, a quiet whine escaping her. "wanna be fucked. please, wanna be fucked."
"yeah?"
"fuck me," she pleaded, voice cracking as your belt jingled. karina sighed at the sound, anticipation building, her legs spreading, her hips rocking back and forth, desperate for friction. you could hear her ragged breaths, and you could practically see the way her hands were fisted into the sheets, the way her eyes were squeezed shut, the way she was biting her lip in anticipation.
you pushed down your pants, just enough to release your cock, taking yourself in hand. karina moaned as you lined up, a shiver running through her, the head of your cock teasing her entrance.
"you're gonna be a good girl for me, right?" you asked, hand trailing up her back, tugging at her hair.
karina's response was a high-pitched whimper, her hips pressing back against you. you pulled harder, tugging her head back, forcing a moan from her throat.
"use your words, baby."
"yes!" she gasped, her hips pressing back, desperately trying to find purchase. "yes, yes, i'll be good. i'll be a good girl. just fuck me. please, please fuck me. i need it. i need you. please."
"good girl."
karina cried out, fingers curling into the sheets as you sank into her. her mouth fell open, head tipping back, her eyes squeezing shut as her jaw fell open. she was so wet and hot and tight, and it felt so good, and she looked so perfect, and you were going to ruin her. you groaned, sinking deeper and deeper into her until your hips were pressed flush against hers.
"oh, fuck," she whined, her back arching.
you let go of her hair, letting her fall forward, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. you grabbed her hips, digging your fingers into her skin hard enough to leave bruises, and started to move. karina moaned, fingers scrabbling at the sheets, desperate to find something to hold onto, as you fucked her into the mattress.
your pace was quick, a mix of shallow thrusts and deep ones, never letting up, never giving her a chance to recover. her voice cracked as her moans grew louder, her body shuddering, the pressure building in her core.
"you like being fucked like a little slut?"
"y-yes!" she gasped, nodding, her eyes rolling back as your cock hit the perfect spot. "f-fuck, fuck, fuck. so fucking good, feels so good, god, i'm gonna cum. don't stop. i'm so close. fuck, i'm gonna—!"
"not yet."
"p-please!" she cried, voice cracking, her hips stuttering.
"hold it," you warned, voice low, a dangerous edge to your tone.
she sobbed, shaking her head. you gripped her hips tighter, controlling the pace as she whimpered in frustration, on the brink of release.
she cried out as you slapped her ass, a harsh sting spreading through her. you gripped her hair, tugging her head back, forcing her back to arch. she moaned, the new angle hitting deeper, her voice cracking, her walls tightening around you.
"are you going to cum?"
"yes!"
"say it."
"i'm gonna cum, i'm gonna cum, please let me cum," she whimpered, a desperate sob escaping her. "p-please. please, i'm so close, please let me cum, fuck, please."
you growled, a low, possessive sound, and you reached for her chin, pulling her head back even further. "cum for me, rina."
the moment the words left your mouth, karina's body jerked forward with a scream. her thighs shook, her hips bucked, and her body shuddered as she came, the pleasure crashing over her in waves. she was beautiful, her voice ringing through the room, her hair sticking to her forehead, her eyes screwed shut, her lips parted in a silent cry.
you released her hair, letting her collapse against the mattress, her body going limp as her orgasm faded. her hips rolled against yours, the small movements pushing her through her aftershocks, her voice a quiet whimper, her fingers curling into the sheets, her back rising and falling with her shallow breaths.
"so beautiful," you murmured, stroking her back.
she was gorgeous, flushed and breathless, and completely spent. you ran your fingers along her spine, up and down, up and down, letting her come down from her high. she hummed, her eyes fluttering closed, her body relaxing.
"how are you feeling, baby?" you asked, brushing her hair out of her face.
"'m good," she mumbled, her lips curving into a lazy smile. "feel good."
you nodded, leaning down, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek. "that's good. can you take some more?"
she let out a quiet hum, a soft moan escaping her. "more?"
you gave a gentle nod, and karina's lips curled into a sly grin.
"fuck me."
karina gasped as you moved her, your hands gripping her, manhandling her, positioning her. she was pliant, her body moving willingly under your touch, and a small whine escaped her as you pulled her to you. you sat on your knees, karina on her back in front of you, legs spread, head tilted back, exposing the smooth column of her throat.
you sat on your knees, karina on her back in front of you, legs spread, head tilted back, exposing the smooth column of her throat.
you couldn't resist leaning down, pressing your lips to her neck, your tongue tracing the skin there, tasting her. she let out a soft moan, her hands coming up to rest on your shoulders, nails digging into your flesh. you bit down, leaving a mark on her skin, before sucking on the spot, eliciting a sharp cry from her.
you pulled back, staring down at her, and she stared back, eyes heavy, her lips parted, a faint blush rising to her cheeks.
"beautiful," you murmured, hand trailing down her body, stopping at her breast, squeezing her under her tank top. karina whimpered, hips rocking against yours, a breathy moan escaping her as you pinched her nipple. "you're so perfect, karina. such a pretty little thing."
she flushed, biting her lip.
you chuckled, leaning down, catching her lips in a kiss. "don't act shy now."
"m'not," she mumbled, her hands trailing up your back, tangling into your hair.
"no?" you asked, pressing kisses to her cheek, down her jaw, and her neck. you could feel the warmth radiating off her, her pulse quickening under your lips, her skin flushing, and it was all too easy to imagine her face. her eyes screwed shut, bottom lip caught between her teeth, her cheeks painted with a dark blush, her expression so perfectly sweet.
you leaned back, your gaze dropping to where you were still buried inside her. your cock was glistening, slick with her arousal, and you licked your lips. karina inhaled sharply, watching you with wide eyes, a soft whine escaping her.
"you want me to make you cum again, baby?" you asked, slowly dragging yourself out of her. she nodded eagerly, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she balled up your shirt, half confused why you were still wearing it but too deep in the moment to question it.
"want it so bad," she said, the words slipping past her lips before she could think. you chuckled, pushing back into her with one quick thrust, forcing a moan from her. you stilled your hips, just for a moment, looking at the bulge in her stomach, her skin stretched around your cock, and a shiver ran through you.
"god, look at that," you whispered, your voice thick with lust, a hand pressing down on her stomach. "you take my cock so well, karina."
she whimpered, her head falling back against the pillow, her eyes fluttering closed. her walls fluttered around you, clenching and unclenching, her body craving more, wanting you deeper. she moaned, her hips moving, trying to get you to move, but you stayed still, your eyes glued to her stomach.
"fuck, you're so big," she mumbled, a shaky breath escaping her, her thighs trembling.
"yeah?" you murmured, grinding into her just slightly. "feels good, baby?"
"yeah," she whined, nodding, her fingers tightening their grip on your shirt. "you feel so good. love how deep you are."
a groan rumbled in your chest, and you leaned down, pressing a kiss to her lips, a soft whimper escaping her.
"gonna make you feel even better, baby."
karina's eyes snapped open as you started moving, her head falling back with a moan. her arms wrapped around your neck, holding onto you tightly, her legs hooking around your waist. you groaned, a low, guttural sound, her head turning to the side as you quickened your pace, her breath coming in short gasps.
"so good," she whined, her voice cracking, her grip tightening around you. "oh, god. y-you're gonna make me cum again."
"already?"
"mhm," she hummed, biting her lip, a desperate whimper escaping her. "f-fuck. oh, shit. feels s-so good. please, please. fuck, don't stop. gonna make me cum, gonna make me cum."
"such a slut," you murmured, lips pressing to her cheek, your hand slipping between your bodies, thumb circling her clit. "so sensitive."
karina jolted with a cry, her hips jerking up against yours, her back arching, her mouth falling open in a silent moan. she was a wreck, and you loved it. her eyes were screwed shut, her face scrunched up in pleasure, her walls clenching around you, and the sight had you throbbing.
"you're so fucking sexy, rina," you breathed, nipping at her neck, your thrusts getting rougher, losing any sense of rhythm. "i could do this forever. fucking ruin you, make you scream my name."
karina was beyond words. all she could do was moan and gasp and whine, her body rocking beneath yours.
"cum for me," you murmured, your lips trailing across her jaw, nipping at her earlobe.
she cried out, her hips stuttering, her walls clamping down around you, her head thrown back as she came, the pleasure coursing through her. her body trembled, and you fucked her through her orgasm, her moans and cries echoing off the walls.
"fuck, i'm gonna cum," you muttered, burying your face in her neck.
"please," she whimpered, the word muffled against your skin, her voice cracking. "please, wanna be filled. wanna be yours. cum for me, cum for me. please."
you moaned, the sound rumbling in your chest, as you slammed into her, burying yourself to the hilt. karina cried out as you came, your cock throbbing, filling her. you shuddered, your body going slack, a low groan escaping you, your grip on her hips loosening.
she hummed, her fingers trailing up and down your back, a soft, sated sound, as she held you. she was warm and pliant and perfect, and for a moment, all you could think about was her.
your breaths were ragged, chests heaving, as you both tried to catch your breath. your lips brushed against hers, soft and sweet, and you could feel her smile.
"was that good?"
"yes," she breathed, nodding. "it was amazing. thank you, puppy."
you hummed, your thumb trailing along her hip.
"can you stay tonight?" she asked, a slight pleading tone to her voice.
you couldn't help the smile that slipped onto your face, pressing another kiss to her cheek.
"yeah, rina. i'll stay."
she grinned, the sight making your chest tight, and pressed a soft kiss to the tip of your nose.

What do you think of Fighting Game character designs, in how their appeal functions to people when selecting characters?
Very broad question - not sure there's a single answer, honestly. One thing I will say is that "appeal" seems to often still mean something much more interesting in fighting game design than it does in, just picking a random example out of a hat for no particular reason, gacha games.
In gacha (broadly speaking, of course there are exceptions) "appeal" in design is largely constructed along lines of beauty. So a very limited range of bodies, a very limited range of facial and physical features, and generally a high focus on elaborate costuming, flashiness, sleekness, "coolness," cuteness, etc. The commercial foundation of the genre, the need to induce the players to roll extensively for a new character, creates a design pressure to reach for lowest common denominators of appeal in order to produce "successful" designs within its metric of measurement.
In fighting games, more commonly, "appeal" is understood to take a much broader range of forms. There is the appeal of the beautiful and the sexy for sure, and in fact I think fighting games often do some of the best horny, sexy, thirsty, kinky character designs in gaming. But there is also the appeal of the monstrous, of the fucked-up and the weird. I think of Dr. Faust who is one of the few characters from Guilty Gear that I know, for example, or characters like Dhalsim and Blanka from Street Fighter, or Double and Painwheel from Skullgirls. Fighting games, generally, get more benefit from having a broad and varied roster with high diversity of character shapes and sizes, and can often dip into caricature and exaggeration in a way that things calculated for broader appeal just can't. They are more likely to let you play as a fucked up ugly weirdo, and also to revel in their fucked-up ugliness and weirdness, to enjoy it rather than play it for abjection and disgust.
Fighting games tend to go hard on strength and power fantasies, obviously (although not always - hello Dan from Street Fighter), which creates its own set of constraining genre limitations on its design space, but broadly speaking when I see character design from fighting games, I tend to see a much broader and more interesting range of ideas on display than I see in a lot of other mainstream and especially triple-A gaming.
That being said, with the major caveat that I am not a fighting game expert or deeply dialed in to the genre, I feel that fighting game rosters in more recent years have felt more and more like they, too, are bowing to the pressure of the gacha design wave, and more and more prioritize beautiful/cool characters wearing elaborate costumes over other, more interesting ideas, and fall more and more into the same narrow ideas of sex appeal.
That's just a vibe, though, not a serious criticism of the genre, I might be entirely off base with that.

Good news/bad news sort of situation here. :)
The good news - this is 'just' reading comprehension. A particular specific case of it, but really this is asking "How do I tell what a text says? What does it mean?" And this means that a lot of people have done a lot of work to figure out how to help you with this.
The "bad" news - this is what every English (insert your primary language here)/literature studies class you've ever had is trying to teach you, and so you're going to have to do all of the things they (should) have been having you do to learn this, too. On the plus side, it's much easier when you're interested and motivated - going into it with subjects you're excited about will make it something you can enjoy.
So what _do_ you need to do? Well, more good news, you've already done the first important step, which is recognizing that a text (a game, in this case) can have something to say built into it, and asking questions about what it is. Now you just need to keep doing that, and read... a lot. And ask yourself every so often, about what you think it meant.
Read your favorite game. Read a game you've never heard of before. Read a game you'd like to try playing. And think about what is different between them, and what is the same, and ask what sort of things might happen because of it.
Also, read what other people have to say about these games. Find some reviews. Find some books of game theory. Find some people who talk about their experiences with the game. Ask your friends what they think about the games. Any sort of discussions can give you a new perspective on what people get out of games.
Another very nice thing about doing this with games, too, is that you can take an experimental approach! Sit down and play them! And think about what sort of game you ended up playing - was it the game you thought it was going to be when you started? What surprised you about how you interacted with the rules? Were there things you _wanted_ but didn't have the rules for? Or rules that you ignored (or wanted to ignore) because you didn't like how it made play happen?
You don't even have to do this yourself - it's a great time for Actual Play, podcasts or video, where you can see other people playing too. Try watching several different groups playing the same system, and see what is the same about the sorts of stories they end up telling. Watch them play different systems, and see how the same people tell a different story - and how much of it is the game, and how much of it is just them telling a new story? Think about it, look at the game, and ask how well it worked for them. Or have you read another game that would have made things happen differently?
And remember that it's a learning process - which means that you'll always be improving as you go, and that no one is going to have 'the answer.' You can definitely learn from what other people have said, but eventually you'll start to learn enough to disagree with some of them, and that's great! But as you go, you'll also learn more of what _you_ are interested in, and what sorts of games will get you there.
So go out there and read more games, and have a great time!
You've talked before about how "generic" ttrpg systems still contain hidden assumptions about genre, story, playstyle, etc. (e.g. gurps and military scifi/fantasy) how do you figure out what those assumptions are? what should you look for in the rules to find them?
That's a fairly involved question for which a full answer is beyond the scope of a Tumblr post (even my notoriously long-winded ones!), but I find that a good place to start is with the "who gives a shit?" principle.
For example, suppose that the first piece of mechanically significant information on a game's character sheet is a statistic called "Strength", rated on a scale from one to ten.
Who gives a shit?
That is, why do we care how strong player characters are? Why do we care about having a definite, codified answer at our fingertips to the question of which characters are stronger than other characters, to a fair degree of precision? Why does any of this matter? What assumptions are we making about the nature of the conflicts that will be present within the game's narrative?
That's a fairly trivial case, but the principle can be extended to more fundamental features of a game's rules. Let's consider the classic Dungeons & Dragons style skill check, for example: roll a die, add a stat, compare to a target number, pass or fail. What assumptions are we encoding about the nature of conflict in this game?
Well, for a start, these assumptions might include:
The assumption that generating binary pass/fail outcomes for performing discrete physical, mental and social tasks is how most conflicts will be resolved;
The assumption that your game will benefit from these outcomes having a high degree of player-facing uncertainty;
The assumption that your game will benefit from this uncertainty containing a relatively high likelihood of complete failure;
The assumption that your game will benefit from the principal determinant of that likelihood of failure being some intrinsic and objectively measurable attribute of the acting character;
... and so forth.
If you're only familiar with Dungeons & Dragons and its very close imitators, these may seem like things you have to assume in order to have a functioning game, but there are a fairly specific set of conventions being expressed here. Why do we care about any of these things? Who gives a shit?
Even the first bullet point can easily be knocked down: one can imagine, for example, a game which simply assumes players can always choose to have their characters succeed at anything it's within the realm of possibility for them to do, and whose rules instead focus on providing a codified game-mechanical answer to the question of what that success will cost them, with the only uncertainty being whether the player is willing to pay that cost.
It's clear that a game which approaches conflict resolution in this way is expressing a strong set of genre assumptions. The trick is recognising that the industry-standard alternative (i.e., the D&D-style skill check) is equally laser-focused on a specific set of genre assumptions, in a way that's often rendered invisible by how common it is.
All of which is a very long-winded way of saying there isn't a simple checklist you can go down to identify a game's genre assumptions. But then, I warned you way up in the opening sentence that this would be the case – I hope I've at least given you a place to start!

Rafe Cameron x Reader Series
Series Masterlist Here
Summary: You see your ex with a new girl wrapped around him after he told you “wasn’t ready for a relationship” after you had slowly started to fall for him. The betrayal stings. Rafe Cameron is dealing with his own issue—Amelia, a girl who refuses to take the hint that he’s not interested. One night you impulsively pretend to be Rafe’s girlfriend to get her to back off. To your surprise, it works. You also notice Alex looking pissed. This starts to become an unspoken routine between you when either Alex or Amelia are around. Simple right? However, longer this goes on, the more the lines blur between what’s real and what’s not.
••••••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••
Part 3- An Unspoken Routine
The plan—if you could even call it that—hadn’t been discussed, hadn’t been put into words. But somehow, it had started to fall into place on its own.
The morning after Topper’s party, you half-expected to wake up with regret, wondering if you’d taken things too far by roping Rafe into your little act. But instead, you woke up to a text from him.
Rafe: Hope I was a good fake boyfriend last night. 10/10 performance, if I say so myself.
You snorted, shaking your head. Of course he’d find a way to be cocky about it.
You: Solid effort. But I’d give you an 8.5. You could’ve committed more.
A minute later, your phone vibrated again.
Rafe: Committed? I had my arm around you all night, babe. That’s Oscar-worthy.
You: Mm. A real method actor. Next time, try harder.
You hadn’t meant for there to be a next time. It was supposed to be a one-off thing—a moment of convenience, of mutual gain. But by the time another party rolled around a few days later, you and Rafe had already slipped into an unspoken rhythm.
Kelce’s house was packed, the music loud enough to make the walls vibrate, the air humid with the heat of too many bodies crammed into one space. You weren’t sure why you had come—maybe out of habit, maybe because you didn’t want Alex to think you were avoiding him. Either way, you found yourself sipping a drink by the pool, watching as groups of people played drunken games and swayed to the beat of whatever song was blasting through the speakers.
And then, like clockwork, Rafe appeared at your side.
“Your favourite person is here,” he murmured, nodding toward the patio entrance.
You followed his gaze, and sure enough—Alex had just walked in. And he wasn’t alone. The same girl from the last party clung to his arm, her manicured fingers gripping his bicep like she was staking a claim.
You swallowed down the brief sting in your chest and turned back to Rafe. “Great.”
He studied you for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with the same easy confidence he always carried, he leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. “Wanna piss him off?”
The answer should’ve been no. You should’ve just ignored Alex, let it roll off your shoulders, walked away and proven to yourself that you didn’t care.
But instead, you smirked.
“Obviously.”
Rafe’s eyes gleamed with something sharp and amused, and before you had time to overthink, he took your drink from your hand, setting it aside. Then, his fingers brushed against yours, his hand trailing up to your wrist before curling gently around it.
“Come on,” he murmured, tugging you toward the crowd.
You barely had time to process before he pulled you straight into the middle of the patio which had turned into a makeshift dance floor. People were already pressed together, moving to the beat, lost in the music and the warmth of the night. The moment you were in the crowd, Rafe’s hands found your waist, pulling you closer until your bodies were nearly flush.
It was dizzying—how easily he did this. Like he didn’t have to think twice about it, like it was the most natural thing in the world. And maybe it should’ve been weird, the way his grip on you tightened, the way your hands found his shoulders without hesitation. But it wasn’t.
It felt… easy.
“You sure about this?” he asked, his lips close to your ear, his voice low enough that it sent a shiver down your spine.
You nodded, fingers tightening slightly against the fabric of his shirt. “Go big or go home, right?”
Rafe chuckled, his breath warm against your skin. “That’s the spirit.”
And then, he moved.
The bass pulsed beneath your feet as you followed his lead, letting yourself sink into the rhythm. Rafe’s hands didn’t leave your waist, and when he guided you, it wasn’t hesitant—it was confident, smooth, like he knew exactly what he was doing. The distance between you shrank, and before long, there wasn’t any left at all.
You weren’t sure how much time passed before you felt a familiar gaze burning into you. You didn’t even have to look to know Alex was watching.
But you looked anyway.
And there he was, standing near the bar, his expression dark as his eyes locked onto the two of you. His jaw was clenched, his hand gripping the cup in his hand a little too tightly. The girl next to him was still talking, oblivious, but Alex wasn’t paying attention to her anymore.
A small, victorious smirk tugged at your lips.
And as if he could sense the shift, Rafe leaned down slightly, his voice just above a whisper. “Is he looking?”
You glanced up at him, ignoring the way your stomach flipped at the proximity. “Oh yeah.”
Rafe hummed, amused. “Good.”
Then, without warning, he dipped his head lower, brushing his nose against your temple before pressing a slow, lingering kiss just below your ear.
It was barely anything—a light, teasing touch. But it sent a jolt through you, your fingers instinctively tightening on his shoulders. You felt his lips curve into a smirk before he pulled back, and when you caught your breath and turned toward Alex again, you could practically see the irritation simmering beneath his carefully blank expression.
Rafe chuckled, clearly pleased with himself. “I think that did the trick.”
You exhaled, still a little breathless. “Yeah,” you muttered. “I think it did.”
After the song ended, you and Rafe finally pulled apart, and you made your way back to your friends, grabbing a drink on the way.
Brooke, Mia, and Paige wasted no time swarming you.
Brooke smirked. “So…what exactly is going on with you two?”
Mia leaned in, eyes narrowed. “Because that didn’t look fake to me.”
Paige sipped her drink, grinning. “Yeah, babe. That was convincing.”
You simply raised an eyebrow, smirking as you took a sip. “Wasn’t it?
Brooke gave you a look. “You’re having fun with this, aren’t you?
You smirked, shrugging. “Maybe.”
Mia gasped dramatically. “Oh my God. You like this.”
You rolled your eyes, setting your drink down. “It’s just a bit of fun.”
Brooke exchanged glances with the other girls before shaking her head. “Mm-hmm. We’ll see about that.”
You just laughed, shaking off their knowing stares.
Because right now, you were just having fun.
Later that night, after the party had died down and people had started to trickle out, you found yourself sitting on the front steps of Kelce’s house, nursing a fresh drink. Rafe was next to you, arms draped lazily over his knees as he stared out at the dark sky.
Neither of you had acknowledged what had happened inside. There was no need to.
Instead, Rafe took a sip of his beer before speaking. “You know… we could keep this up.”
You glanced at him. “What?”
“This,” he said, gesturing vaguely between you. “It works. You get what you want, I get Amelia off my back… everybody wins.”
You hesitated, chewing on your bottom lip. It was tempting—too tempting. It had felt good tonight, knowing you had gotten under Alex’s skin. And if you were being honest with yourself, it had also felt… nice, being close to Rafe.
But still. “And what happens if people actually start thinking we’re together?”
Rafe shrugged. “Then let ‘em.” He smirked. “Unless you think you’d get too attached.”
You rolled your eyes, shoving his shoulder. “Shut up.”
But despite your teasing, despite the sarcasm, you both knew the answer.
This wasn’t just a one-time thing anymore.
It was a routine now.
And something told you it wasn’t going to stay just a game for long.

Loser!Jinx x Reader Headcanons
Jinx wasn’t just a loser—she was the loser. The kind who sat in the back of the class doodling in her notebook instead of taking notes, who always had a random bruise from doing something stupid, and who somehow had a negative GPA but could explain the entire plot of an obscure 90s anime no one had ever heard of.
She wasn’t exactly hated at school, but she was weird, loud, and unpredictable, which made people avoid her. Except for Vi, who was always yelling at her to “Get your shit together, Powder,” and Sevika, who only tolerated her because Vi forced her to.
Then there was you.
The first time Jinx saw you, she short-circuited. She was just trying to make it through another miserable day of Algebra when you walked into the classroom, and suddenly, math didn’t exist anymore. All she could think was:
“Oh no.”
You were effortlessly cool—new to school, good at everything Jinx wasn’t, and way out of her league. But you were nice. Too nice. The kind of nice that made Jinx go home and kick her feet while screaming into her pillow because why would you ever talk to her unless you were planning to ruin her life?
- The first time you talk to her, it’s because you sit next to her in Algebra.
You: “Hey, do you have a pencil?”
Jinx, panicking: “Wh—uh—I—yeah—no—I mean—” (frantically digs through her backpack, pulls out a crayon).
You: “…Thanks?”
Jinx: “Yeah! Totally! I only use crayons, actually. Pencils are a government conspiracy.”
You: “Oh? Tell me more.”
She thinks you’re messing with her. But you don’t laugh. You actually listen. And when she rants about whatever nonsense is currently living rent-free in her head, you just nod along like she’s making sense.
She falls in love immediately.
- Jinx is the type of loser who spends all her time online, plays obscure indie games, and has a concerning amount of conspiracy theories about random things (like why the school vending machine is always out of strawberry soda).
- She is hopelessly, painfully, pathetically in love with you. Like, full-blown kicking her feet and giggling into her pillow kind of crush. She doesn’t even try to be normal about it.
- If you so much as glance in her direction, her brain short-circuits. Immediate blue screen of death. Malfunctioning Jinx noises.
- She swears she’s being subtle, but the entire school knows she’s down horrendously bad for you. Like, it’s embarrassing. Vi has tried to stage an intervention. Sevika has bet money on how long it’ll take before she faints in front of you.
- If you actually talk to her? Oh, she’s done for. Stammering, tripping over her words, probably dropping whatever she’s holding. You could ask her the simplest question, and she’d be like:
You: “Hey, do you have a pencil?”
Jinx, sweating bullets: “Uh—uh—uh—uh—I—pen—yes—no—I mean—I do? Maybe? What’s a pencil?”
- She definitely stalks your social media. She has your entire posting schedule memorized, knows all your interests, and tries to bring them up in conversation to impress you—but it just makes her sound insane.
Jinx: “Soooo… I heard you like frogs.”
You: “What?”
Jinx: “Uh. Frogs. Y’know. Ribbit.”
- If you compliment her, even as a joke, she will take it to her grave. Like, you could say, “Hey, cool jacket,” and she’ll wear that same jacket every day for a month straight.
- One time you called her cute. She has not recovered.
- She tries to act cool around you, but she’s the type of loser who fumbles everything. Drops her phone. Walks into doors. Trips over air. It’s a miracle she hasn’t spontaneously combusted yet.
- If you so much as smile at her, she’s writing about it in her diary like it’s the most life-changing event to ever happen.
“FEBRUARY 8TH, 2025. 3:47 PM. Y/N SMILED AT ME. I CAN DIE HAPPY NOW.”
or
“February 8th, 2025. 3:47 PM. Y/N TOUCHED MY ARM. I CAN NEVER WASH IT AGAIN.”
- Jinx, in her head, planning out all the ways she could confess to you: Writing you a love letter? Making a mixtape? A grand, romantic gesture?
- Jinx, in reality: “I like your face.”
- If you start liking her back? Oh, she’s doomed. Malfunctioning. Exploding. Game over.
People still don’t understand how you two work, but at this point, it doesn’t even matter. You and Jinx are in your own little world, and honestly? It’s kind of perfect.
- You keep hanging out with her. At first, just in class, but then at lunch, after school, texting late at night. She stops feeling like a loser when she’s with you. She starts hoping.
- The first time you realize you like her back, it’s because of something dumb.
You’re at lunch, sitting with her, Vi, and Sevika. Jinx, being a disaster, spills her drink all over herself. Instead of being embarrassed, she just goes, “Guess I’m drinking it the hard way.”
And something about the way she owns her weirdness makes your heart do a stupid little flip.
- The first time you flirt with her, she malfunctions.
- The first time she realizes you like her back, it breaks her brain.
It happens after school. You’re both walking home together when you grab her hand, lacing your fingers through hers like it’s nothing.
She nearly trips over her own feet. You just laugh and squeeze her hand tighter.
Oh no, she thinks. Oh no, oh no, oh no.
She’s never going to recover from this.
(She doesn’t want to.)
Random Cute Couple Things:
- Jinx is the kind of girlfriend who will 100% steal your clothes.
Not just hoodies—everything. She once showed up wearing your jacket, your socks, and your backpack, and when you pointed it out, she just went, “Yeah, and?”
The worst part? She looks stupidly cute in your clothes, so you can’t even be mad.
(You started “accidentally” leaving extra hoodies at her place just so she’d always have one of yours to wear.)
- She gets insanely clingy when she’s sleepy.
Jinx isn’t really a cuddler during the day—she’s always bouncing off the walls, getting into trouble, dragging you into her weird ideas. But the second she gets tired?
Good luck getting up.
She’ll wrap herself around you like a human koala, mumbling something about how “you’re warm and smell good” and refusing to let go.
(You’ve accepted your fate. You live here now.)
- She makes the dumbest bets just to get kisses.
• “Bet you can’t solve this riddle. If you lose, I get a kiss.
• “If I make this paper ball into the trash can, you have to kiss me.”
• “Okay, rock-paper-scissors, best out of three—winner gets a kiss.”
You caught on pretty quickly and just started kissing her before she could suggest a bet. It completely breaks her brain every time.
(She still tries, though.)
- She doodles all over your stuff.
If you lend Jinx a pen, it’s over—your notebooks, your arms, even your homework will be covered in little scribbles.
Sometimes they’re just random sketches. Other times, you’ll find little hearts with your name inside them.
(She denies drawing them. But the blush on her face says otherwise.)
- She absolutely loves when you play with her hair.
She pretends she doesn’t care at first—shrugs it off, acts like it’s whatever. But the second you start running your fingers through her hair, she literally melts.
(If you braid it, she’ll leave it in all day, even if it looks ridiculous.)
- She’s always touching you.
• Holding your hand? Obviously.
• Leaning against you when you’re sitting together? Yup.
• Linking pinkies just because she can? Of course.
It’s like she needs to be physically connected to you at all times.
(If you ever pull away too soon, she’ll dramatically gasp and go, “What, you don’t love me anymore?!”)
- She makes up the dumbest excuses just to hang out with you.
“Babe, I need your help with something.”
“What is it?”
“I dunno, I just wanted to see you.”
And honestly? You wouldn’t have it any other way.

I loved this episode, it was somewhat hard to tell what parts of what everyone were saying were what they truly believed and that was amazing. Pv deceiving Sm to win against him, talk about getting a taste of your own medicine.
Now onto the the photos I’m putting here just to archive for my shadowvanilla heart:
Bs and Ca noticing Sm smiles and acts differently when playing around with Tr:

Sm deflecting:

Becoming one briefly, Pv was able to see Sm's feelings(and empathizes with him) and also saw some of Sm's past memories:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/91f041343f573f2f43aa433aee91a7fa/e596c378e608a364-62/s540x810/c994546c2cd3e40dc278b1d74dbf1b35a285498c.jpg)

Soul Jam connection -> they can understand each like no one else and both of them have used it to see each other's pasts and feelings:

Pv is too kind, even after what Sm has done to him. Also, it's kind of funny to imagine if Sm accepted his friend request(+slow build-up to my exclusive qpr shadowvanilla dream was within reach XD):
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d91f8e85f5c7dc750cb8ed9af334c500/e596c378e608a364-c3/s540x810/8e0c80a2b23b688e3d38410607da30937758f6f6.jpg)

Again with the deflecting, bro, you're not fooling anyone anymore:

Awakened Pv still trying to reason with Sm after defeating him:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/da073aa635ad6c8cef3d473e5dd48664/e596c378e608a364-f2/s540x810/2203de27869875830c07257dc870b69a925504e1.jpg)
Pv observed Sm's memory of being sealed:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/01b9af01fbdc59f2f62258b6c2659a2c/e596c378e608a364-64/s540x810/3ba24af4470219fac1546d63906aa76159db2097.jpg)
Cut scene of Tr stabbing himself in his Soul Jam(I honestly didn't realize he still had the Soul Jam on him XD) and awakening:
Uegh this just made be love them even more. With Pv still so understanding but Sm pushing him away, gotta love the angst. I kind of hope they come to some understanding slow-burn style and actually talk it out without Sm getting defensive every time he's exposed XD

এ absolute failure ᪲ ﹕ changing the tides ! ᪲ jujutsu kaisen ᧔ female reader.
࣪⊹ he always wanted to hold you in a “sheep in a lion's den” (or something like that) situation, but how can he get past the barrier of a beating heart and sweaty palms?!
+ love, ‘un: featuring (gamer) megumi ⸝ (neighbour) yuta!
megumi fushiguro’s mission: make you nervous (FAILED)
usually megumi rarely invites guests. if there are guests, they invite themselves (example: gojo satoru). it’s the main reason why his housemates were jaw-dropped when they saw a girl following behind their friend.
megumi? with a girl? money might as well grow from trees next week.
it was simply unbelievable. not that they’re calling their friend a loser—hardly, but he’s not the most sociable… in person. megumi's more than comfortable yelling into his headset’s microphone, but he never shares that energy elsewhere.
once megumi entered, he immediately gestured a “don’t say anything” to his housemates. they listened and obeyed; doing nothing more than greeting and telling you the classic: “make yourself comfortable!”
now, megumi meticulously planned the entire session with the help of his group chat. he’d invite you over, keep a cool persona, and use video games as a way to bond with you. what megumi didn’t know was that you were already familiar with video games—you’re just more of a mobile player than a pc player (his main forte).
“do you play games?” he’d softly ask, mentally ticking off the checkbox in his mind.
once you confirmed that you did, he offered you his gaming chair. at first, you denied, saying that it’s his chair and you’d be fine with just standing. what you didn’t know was that’s exactly his plan. he’d have you on the chair while he stood behind you.
he’d guide you through his pc set up, pointing at different games, chrome extensions, doing his best to distract you so you won’t pay any mind to him. when you settled on a game, megumi would smoothly lean over you, putting his hand over yours to control the mouse.
he’d do it all under the disguise of “i’ve played it before. let me show you the tricks.” slowly moving his fingers to sit between yours, stretching his other arm to hold the other side of the chair, leaning in closer til he can feel the heat from your body, talking more than he usually does.
megumi would pretend to be immersed in walking you through the game, but he’s secretly glancing to see whether you’re showing any signs of being flustered.
an hour into the session and he’s the one who’s fighting heartbeat. you weren’t nervous at all. you were calm, sometimes biting your lip to focus on the game. whenever you did something to gain an achievement, you’d smile at him brightly, cheering with an “i did it!” while he responded with his own “yeah, you did.”
you were acting as if this was a normal, friendly hang out. he hid his true intentions. you didn’t know that staring at him until he answered made his heart race. ultimately megumi’s crush you deepened meanwhile you’re excited for another gaming session.
yuta okkotsu’s mission: shojo moment while walking together (FAILED)
yuta fell victim to the unskippable event of falling for his neighbour’s daughter. can you blame him? you’re the same age (bonus number one) and you never get bored of him turning the conversation into a marathon of his interests (bonus number two).
not only do you frequently talk, you also walk together every day. whether it’s to school, to the convenience store, or just taking a stroll around the neighborhood. your parents never allow you to walk without a guardian and yuta’s more than happy to spend time with you.
today it’s walking to the convenience store, though you hold a grudge against it. you’ve ranted multiple times about the irony of it being a convenience when its prices are anything but convenient.
while yuta’s doing his usual rap about his new obsession, you felt a few drops of rain. at first you shrugged it off, thinking you’re imagining things. the sun hid behind the clouds, yes, but the sky’s relatively bright! not a grey cloud insight.
again, you felt more drops of rain. you stopped walking, opening your palm and tilting your head towards the sky.
“hey, is it just me or is it raining?”
upon hearing your words, yuta stops. he was a few steps ahead of you, unable to notice that you had stopped due to being immersed in talking. he walks to you, eyebrows raised as he’s ready to answer your question. unfortunately, the sudden burst of rain cuts him off.
taking advantage of you being in a tank top, yuta quickly slid his jacket off, ready to swing it on your shoulders.
however, you had other plans. it’s raining and you were told to get what your mother needed with haste. with time clearly being a villain today, you grabbed his jacket with one hand and held onto his wrist with the next.
“no time for that!” you shouted, pulling him behind you as you sprinted towards the convenience store.
the sudden contact caused him to be flustered; running through the rain is dangerous yet he’s allowing himself to be dragged along. he would’ve covered you with the jacket and found somewhere to shelter but you took the initiative.
so close, yet so far. the romantic moment he always dreamed of being replaced with whatever’s going on. a moment that could’ve been filled with romantic tension forever mourned. maybe next time he can take the initiative anywhere else but conversations.

*Break the water surface
The original clip is probably: his own light reflects from the skin to the water surface, outlining his soft blue outline, which rises slowly, gently, quietly from the water. You looked along the glowing blue smooth curve until you finally saw him one-a pair of ruby-colored eyes staring straight from the water.

This is a great word game! You get to explore an alien planet! Cuddle up and fall asleep with the alien boys! The link is here!
I'm not the author, the author is @helpmeimawkwardbutfun !!
I just wanted to do something about it out of spontaneity!I want this wonderful game to be seen by more people!

There are character reference design Sheets I made for this game out of challenge and for my own amusement! I got the idea and design from @helpmeimawkwardbutfun! I just added some of my thoughts and preferences while keeping the description of the game itself as close as possible! I thank her for her help! I did have a lot of questions while designing that she helped answer and solve! I love how talented and enthusiastic she is!
(As always, I can't get the naff's SJ au out of my head, and I don't want yn to be bald, so draw it this way)
I have to thank my inspirations :[Sources of Light/Signs of Life created by @jackofallrabbits]
I might not have even finished the design without the inspiration of her writing. I was reading these two great drama-filled novels even before I learned about the game!
I was also very highly recommended to check out jack's writing when I was chatting with the game writers!!!! So I'm here to highly recommend her work again! Click here to check it out!

pairing. seishiro nagi x f!reader

☁︎. one week later
your heart was beating out your chest, your palms sweaty as you stood in the hallway, waiting for seishiro nagi. he had just finished his football game, and to no one’s surprise, winning the match.
you would be lying if you said you weren’t nervous to meet the rest of his friends, but you couldn’t help if you and nagi wouldn’t click like you had online.
“y/n?”, you whip around, seeing nagi, his hair messy and disheveled after clearly having a shower. and damn, was 10x more attractive in person.
“hi.”, you say breathlessly, not expecting him to literally come up behind you, “where are your friends?”,, you ask, nervously.
he gives you a small smile, “are you more excited to see them than me?”
you raise your brows, “what? no. sorry, i’m just-“, you breathe, “i’m just really nervous.”
“i’ve been nervous all day, too.”, he mutters, running his hand through the side of his hair, “i was worried i wasn’t gonna perform well.”
“are you kidding? you did so well, sei. i’ve never been so invested in football.”, you laugh.
“really?”, he smiles.
you nod, looking up at him. hearing everything you did about nagi, you assumed he might come across more nonchalant, maybe even a bit quiet. that was your main worry when it came to meeting him and thinking your relationship might be different in person.
but, looking up and seeing the pure adoration in his eyes and the nervous expression he had on his face, you knew you never had a thing to worry about.
“so yeah, i don’t really know why i was so worried.”, you say to nagi, sitting across from him on a bench table at the fair, biting into a greasy hotdog he had just bought you.
you didn’t get a reply, looking over to see him staring at you, his hand on his cheek, “what?”
“hm?”, he asks.
“you’re just staring at me, is my rambling boring you?” you smile.
“no, you just look really pretty right now.”, he states as a matter of fact.
“i look pretty stuffing my face with this hotdog?@, you laugh.
“mhmm, you do.”, he smiles.
“shut up.”, you roll your eyes, smiling.
“i was really worried too. i’ve not really ever spoken to a girl like this before.”
“like, at all?”, you ask, surprised. he was a good looking boy, and he’s had no experience?
he shakes his head, “never been interested in anyone, and it always seemed like a hassle when i saw it.”
“and what do you think now?”, you smile, tilting your head at him.
“i still think it’s a hassle.”, he pauses, “but in a good way.”
“a hassle in a good way, hm.”, you repeat, finishing off the rest of your hotdog.
“what do you wanna do next?”, he asks, looking at you intently.
“i wanna go on the rides, obviously.”
“but they make me feel nauseous.”, he whines.
“uh huh, and who asked who to a fun fair?”, you smile at his whiny expression.
he simply sighs, looking back at you. how could he deny you when you’re smiling at him like that?
“now, cmon.”, you stress, getting up and grabbing nagi’s hand, “i don’t wanna wait around in the lines.”, you say, looking up at him with an eager glint in your eye, pulling him with you.
nagi couldn’t help but smile to himself, a month ago he would have never thought he’d be spending valentines with a gorgeous girl who he met on roblox, talking shit to him.
and while it may have caused him a great amount of hassle, he couldn’t be more grateful for it.

As I’ve alluded to, I think a lot of the failures of c3 can be traced to the fundamental gap that, in a plot where so much revolved around “”the gods”” CR never answers the question:
What the fuck is a god?
Others have made excellent points in how we talk about epic fantasy and the difficulties in fully receiving a world where gods definitively exist. What's interesting to me is that, if you really want to get deep into the philosophical weeds (and I always do), then what does it actually mean when we say "gods exist" in Critical Role?
Disclaimer: this isn't exactly as comprehensive as I would like but what I hoped to articulate in one meta post is more like 2-5 thesis proposals in a trench coat, and I still want the catharsis of yeeting my thoughts into the void so I can finally take a nap. I tried to limit the academia of it all but there's still plenty of jargon, and also a bibliography because I like to show my work.
Short version: Godhood/divinity is a semantic lacuna in the CR's worldbuilding. That's not a bad thing, in fact it's kind of necessary. The problem arises when the plot makes gods and godhood a central problem without resolving or even acknowledging the barriers to understanding those concepts, thus leading to hours of dialogue, plot beats, and a supposedly climactic resolution which all amount to nonsense if you look too closely.
As anyone who’s so much as dipped a toe into philosophy will tell you, you gotta define your usage of terms or the discussion is DOA. On all levels of CR text, words like "god"/"the gods"/"divine"/"deity"/etc. are used interchangeably in so many contexts, and the meaning of those terms is only accessible via contextual implication, and the deducible meanings in so many of those contexts directly contradict each other. C3 especially reveals a dissonance between how the mytho-cultural text approaches divinity compared to the contours drawn by the mechanico-ontological text.1
The former in Exandria refers to "the gods" in terms of the Pantheon, a definite collection of individual entities. These otherworldly beings of Tengar, a realm of pure possibility. But "god" is also a rank within D&D's cosmic taxonomy—a rank to which, in Exandria, other entities can rise via the Rites of Ascension. The Matron is a god same as the others; Tharizdun is part of the pantheon but separate, not of Tengar. Maybe a "god," maybe not?
In the mytho-cultural role "the gods" play in Exandria, their being-qua-being is positioned as necessarily plurally defined and unknowable, but nevertheless possessed of immense "cosmic power" befitting their role in the Creation myth and ongoing worship. It makes perfect sense that the in-world mythology is (intentionally) plural and contradictory. However, as others have pointed out,* Exandria's socio-political and cultural worldbuilding vis a vis religion are (less intentionally, I would imagine) rather underbaked, leaving significant gaps in our understanding of what the gods (and religion) mean for the cultural part of mytho-cultural.
Now let’s get into the latter. Because CR isn't just a narrative—it's a ludonarrative, and the game mechanics have huge ontological implications.1
In the mechanico-ontological sphere, the gods are positioned as sort of exceptions to the rule, by which I mean, like, we don't get stat blocks for deities. Which again, on its own, makes perfect sense! D&D focalizes the PCs, and so on the purely mechanical level, gods/the divine are subordinate, acting only through proxies. This is necessary for the game-narrative D&D supports. Giving god-level power explicit stats would be a catch-22:
first, it would severely demystify "cosmic power"—to define is to limit, after all. Not doing so can imply an ontology where gods are not confined by mechanics—their powers go beyond, their powers are not only unwritten but unwriteable.
secondly, if the rulebooks were to even attempt codifying mechanical abilities on par with the semantic associations of “god-level” power, then it would be very difficult to maintain either the PCs focal role as agents of the narrative or a fairly balanced game, much less both. We saw this play out in Downfall—the point of the mechanics in the final battle outlined the huge disparity between mortals and gods.
Speaking of Downfall—as well as their mechanic and mythic existences, the gods also exist on the narrative level as characters. As such, we must necessarily consider questions of agency and consciousness in qualifying their existence, but fuck if that isn’t a messy question on the one layer, let alone putting it in the contexts of these shifting, intersecting layers.2 Keeping it brief though, the gods’ narrative agency is subject to similar issues as their mechanical powers.**
Being an exception to the rules of mechanico-ontological existence only holds together so long as divinity remains separate from everything governed by mechanics when mobilized in a narrative. I'm not trying to nitpick—Matt's "NPCs are not governed by the same rules as PCs" MO isn't automatically world-logic breaking, and there's a degree of pedantry on that front that is simply unsportsmanlike. But the problem in c3 specifically is that the plot focalizes the gods and divinity as a construct in such a way that invites—demands even—closer inspection. And the coherence between the structural layers of the narrative breaks down quite quickly under this scrutiny.
It's not like c3 brought this theme out of nowhere. Disproving that there is any essential divide between gods and mortals defines the zeitgeist of the Age of Arcanum. The Matron’s ascension proves that, however the difference is defined, the state of being one or the other is traversable. Exu: Calamity brought this up plenty: Laerryn contends that the distinction is access to the Celestial plane, and seeks to dissolve the difference by achieving large-scale interplanar travel for all of Avalir; Zerxus embodies that so called "divine magic" is not strictly tied to a worshipful relationship with a deity.
In c2, god-or-not is a huge element of Jester's arc with the Traveler. Her build shows that, despite the very different class abilities/powers of warlocks and clerics, there is no mechanico-ontological constraining the distinction between a warlock patron and a god. These are roles defined through a relational existence, not in keeping with any essential taxonomy of substances.1 The Traveller’s position in the cosmic taxonomy as an Archfey has less bearing on the type of magic he can grant than the belief and conviction on the side of the grantee. Similarly, there’s the Luxon in all its mystery—a god but not a pantheon deity? Divine but not a god? The semantics seem less and less significant.
Now’s probably a good time to remember that CR is a story, and stories are representative constructions wherein any logic other than narrative logic is secondary. D&D as a story engine allows fictional representation to evoke a unique facsimile of materialism because the diegetic laws of physics are established in such detail via mechanics. But still, in a fictional world, metaphysics kind of are physics, and also kind of are semiotics, and both answer to the symbolic. It's fun (for me) to dig into the worldbuilding using philosophy as a framework, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the philosophy finds gaps so long as the rest of the narrative elements cohere around those gaps.
In c3, they do not.
Next to c3, c1 gets the closest to leaning too hard against the logical house-of-cards making up cosmic ontology in Exandria due to the importance of the Divine Gate in defeating proto-god Vecna. The Divine Gate is, imo, the material nexus point where all the semantic and ontological contradictions coalesce: it was created so as to specifically block gods from traversing out of the Celestial plane, but is permeable to mortals. Presumably there is some quality or essential substance that decides who can move through it and who can’t—but what is that? What is the substance of divinity, not in the ontological sense but in the materialism of arcana? It’s not something exclusive to denizens of Tengar, because the Matron is also trapped; perhaps “divine” is a misnomer, and it only traps the specific entities designated at the time of its creation, regardless of any shared essential quality? Except no, because Vecna was able to be trapped behind it as well.
On the flip side, the great thing about the Divine Gate is that it encompasses and narratively justifies that catch-22 of divine mechanics by adding the element of time. The gods used to be un-writably powerful Pre-Divergence, hence their cosmic standing, but the Divine Gate limits their powers of acting in the present, allowing for their mechanical impotence. The Divergence and the Divine Gate incorporate the gods’ disparate ontological states into the history of Exandria, a physical and temporal division that allows for these contradictions to coexist in separate corners of the narrative.***
This coheres throughout campaigns 1 and 2—even when c1 started approaching concepts of “divinity” more closely, the plot maintains a separation between mortal stakes and divine stakes. Vecna was Vox Machina’s problem because he posed a threat to mortals; he posed a threat to mortals because he was seeking to achieve god-level power on the mortal plane. We don’t need to know what the “power” exactly means to know it would be a huge imbalance. The threat is nullified by trapping Vecna behind the Divine Gate. We still don’t know what he is vis a vis godhood, but we do know his powers of acting and affecting on the Material Plane are curtailed and as such he’s not mortal’s problem anymore. Compare this to the Bell’s Hells attitudes towards their joint BBEGs of Ludinus and Predathos. Ludinus is the threat on the Material Plane; for much of the campaign, BH cap off cyclical debates on the gods by agreeing that stopping Ludinus is their actionable concern. In the end, however, Ludinus’ rhetoric succeeds in focalizing cosmic concerns: the narrative concludes with the resolution to the questions of ‘what to do about the gods and Predathos,’ reifying Ludinus’ view that the cosmic structure was a problem to be solved (despite the complete lack of supporting evidence to that point). Meanwhile the resolution to the—previously central—question of ‘what to do about Ludinus’ is ‘leave him to his cottage-core Thanos epilogue,’ as though he is not nor has he ever been a primary source of conflict.
I think Predathos is where the irreconcilability of material substance and ontological substance really start to chip away at the foundations of narrative coherence. The “God-eater” must be subject to the same questions re: “so what do you mean by god?” The takeaway is that the Predathos lore is frankly a hot mess of ludonarrative dissonance—perfect illustration for the other side of that catch-22 I was talking about!
In theory, Matt could have introduced Predathos into Exandrian cosmology without it becoming a narrative problem, had it remained at a sufficient distance from the immediate plot to sit comfortably obscured in the same miasma of metaphysical unknowns as the Luxon or Tharizdun. It’s Ludinus and all the discussion surrounding these cosmic entities that shines a glaring spotlight on the contradictions by way of placing the gods into an ethical framework and using that judgement as a basis for praxis. Moral philosophy is not my area, but as far as it intersects with ontology: it is, to put it mildly, very fucking hard to put a subject under ethical judgement when said subject has no defined being as such that it’s very subjecthood is in question.
What I’m trying to say is that you hold a guy in a very different ethical standing than the sun. The Dawnfather is both and can be reduced to neither. He is a character in a narrative with agency and personality and relationships at the same time he is a mechanical construction that has no independent existence and extremely limited powers of acting, and all the while he is semantically presumed all-powerful.
*I can’t find the post now to link it but I’m 99% sure it was by @utilitycaster
**For an illustration of (non-game) narratives where a pantheon of gods explicitly exist, are in possession of a certain cosmic power, and are direct narrative agents, see: Homer. I ran out of steam before getting to the full comparison I wanted to make, maybe I’ll get to that in another post, but trust me when I say it has massive implications—like, ‘requires a totally different method of engagement with the work, one which heavily departs from, and at times directly contradicts, literary and pedagogical tradition since at least the early modern period’-level implications.
***In terms of Pre-Divergence depictions, frankly I need to finish rewatching both Calamity and Downfall (possibly multiple times) to properly incorporate Brennan’s contributions to the text into this consideration. Drive-by assessment though, as it pertains to the main campaigns: we see glimpses of what the gods powers of acting can be without the Divine Gate, both with Asmodeus at the end of Calamity and the final battle in Downfall, to use as a comparison. These are useful for when c3 brings up the possibility for an alternate state of affairs while providing no examples for what those alternatives would entail.
