personally I think nanowrimo would have been much better off if they'd said "technically we can't stop you from using generative AI" instead of a weird social justice perspective thing that doesn't make sense in the context they used said language in but nano had already lost my respect since last year when they took forever to respond to the reports of that one moderator being a groomer

#the thing with the whole being anti generative ai thing being ableist is like #okay yeah there are some circumstances where ai can genuinely improve accessibility #such as papers being written solely in academic terms so the common person cannot understand them without researching #individual vocabulary words and foing that for an entire paper #most lose patience very quickly there #that and also materials being translated into languages theyre not often translated to!! yes human translators should be paid #but the common person cant go to a human translator on fiverr every time they want something done #these are VERY specific and rare instances #but for an event where you SELF REPORT how many words youve written #i think saying being anti ai is classist is bullshit and what they need to say is just #“uhhhhhhh we dont care bc we cant stop you”#but i dont think anti ai people would have liked that answer very much either
