listen i need to get this salt off my chest, so KH3 spoilers under the cut

wtfing @ kairi. seriously, it’s 2019 and i literally watched a female character be fridged to fuel sora’s man pain? if nomura really frickin wanted sora to to be motivated into fighting he could have easily done this with riku. hell, i feel it would have had more impact with the audience since apparently riku and sora’s relationship is the only dynamic nomura has interest in developing. kairi is always the afterthought while riku is the one who apparently matters the most to sora. 

listen, i was fooled with KH2 with the whole “this time i’ll fight’ bit that was dropped before the game came out and what we ended up with was kairi just swinging her keyblade a few times. so i didn’t have high hopes for this game so all i did was roll my eyes when she again, didn’t get to fight alongside the rest of the characters. much as i love, love, love aqua, that one scene where sora and riku and aqua were taking a stand? it should have been kairi standing right there with her. 

i don’t expect her to be a super awesome keyblade wielder because i know nomura’s a coward, but holy shit did her character regress??? she’s even more frail and has even less agency than her kh1 counterpart. icb KH2 kairi was her at her strongest since at least she put up a struggle against axel and TRIED to fight.

ALSO it would have cost nomura literally nothing to make kairi as a competent fighter as sora and riku right from the very start. the entire backstory for why those two boys are good at fighting was because they banged a couple of wooden swords at each other as kids. that’s it. but no, we need this entire backstory as an explanation for why kairi is able ‘fight’ now. since female characters always need a reason to be good at fighting. 

kairi so got the nomura aerith treatment in this game that i’m laughing. literally becomes some motherly/jesus figure of light to sora.
