Titanic: The Exhibition in Los Angeles as seen on December 23, 2022
Clockwise from top left:
1. White Star Line steward's uniform from the early 1900s
2. Register with E.J. Smith's signature
3. Beaded chandelier from Olympic's grand staircase
4. Musical programs for memorial concerts held after the tragedy
5. White Star Line deck chair from the early 1900s
6. White Star Line china used in first class
Have I been to a few exhibits on Titanic? Ha! Is the pope Catholic?? And, even though I have visited my fair share of exhibits on the sunken ship, would I pass up the opportunity to visit another one?
Not even going to dignify that rhetorical question with a sarcastic answer.
So, of course, I hit up Titanic: The Exhibition and immediately immersed myself in the history I know and love so well. Though the artifact displays didn't feature much from Titanic herself, I was personally thrilled to see so many pieces from other White Star liners, including Titanic's sister, Olympic, and an earlier vessel - RMS Republic - that sank in 1907.
And now I realize how nerdy that is - I am the only person in the world to visit a Titanic exhibit and be excited to see artifacts from other ships. Somebody stage an intervention. Stat.
Clockwise from top left:
1. Porthole recovered from the wreck of the RMS Republic
2. Cabin door from RMS Olympic
3. Carved post from Olympic's grand staircase

Weekly Tag Wednesday
thanks @mickeym4ndy for the tag 🫶🏻
.
Name: Lindsay
Age: 22
Location: legs up my room sofa
If you could hang out with any cartoon character, who would you choose and why? Bokuto Koutaro from Haikyuu. I love him so much and that dude is just me fr if you even care. I'd say Mickey but I'd drive him nuts.
If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be? I genuinely don't keep up with fashion trends (mainly I don't remember them) but I am all for clothes that last. Please.
What sport would you compete in if you were in the Olympics? Weightlifting or Volleyball
Which actor would you want to play you in the movie about your life? Lindsay Lohan, and I'm not thrilled about it. I don't need to explain the name, but I also looked a shit ton like her when little, and when I dyed my hair red for the first time, I looked like a carbon copy of her in Herbie.
If you were the captain of a pirate ship, what would be the name of your ship? Crisped Boricuans
If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why? Suddenly I forgot every movie I've seen. I'd say either Megamind, The Lion King, or Eight Below. Mostly Eight Below, the movie has very slow parts but fuck man, it always hits me in every emotional aspect. Dogs man, dogs. I named my first dog after the doggo protagonist.
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you really want to do? I wanna go to a wolf conservation center or sanctuary, and I also wanna go to Omega Mart. I'm trying to aim for the least expensive lmao.
If you could have any animal, real or imaginary, as a pet, what would it be and why? A wolf, an owl, a cheetah, a fox, and a black bear.
If you could invent a holiday, what would it be, and how would people celebrate it? Country Stereotypes... Why? Sometimes you gotta loosen up, and wreck havoc. Everybody's gotta pass as a stereotype. It sounds horrible, ik, but stereotypes are there for a reason and sometimes they're true, speaking for us Hispanics or Latinos. I'd love to see that play out 💀
What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited in your country? For being such a small island, we have a massive rainforest called "El Yunque." That shit is wild. I'm sure there are far better places in Puerto Rico, but holy shit that place is a fantasy world.
-
have no clue who to tag lmao so @thirstyvampyr @em-harlsnow @especially-fuk-u hi 🫶🏻 if y'all up for it!

Description:
Akaashi is a struggling writer working two jobs. His high school best friend, Kenma, is a successful Youtuber/streamer who just so happens to be dating famous rapper Kuroo Tetsuro. After being convinced to go to a show for their friend Hinata’s birthday, Akaashi meets his tourmate, rising star Bokuto Koutaro.
Thank you for reading!! ❤(っ^▿^)
---------------
Road To Nowhere
Akaashi is only half listening as Kenma's monotone voice floods his ear. His phone is pressed up between his cheek and his shoulder as his hands work to stock cartons of milk at Sakanoshita. This is the most talkative Akaashi has heard his high school friend in quite some time. Eventually, it registers that Kenma is asking him something. Offhandedly, Akaashi makes a small sound of agreeance. He thinks they’re talking about Kuroo’s upcoming show.
“Akaashi.”
“Yes?” Akaashi hums in response.
“You’re not listening.”
He sputters into the phone in protest- despite knowing damn well he hadn’t a clue what Kenma just asked him.
“I just asked if you like Kuroo’s new single.”
“And?”
“And you said yes.”
“So? I could have liked it.”
“Akaashi. The only things you hate more than rap are unnecessary sequels and the Harry Potter books.”
“Oh,” Akaashi breathes out, taking a short break from his task and running his fingers through his hair. There is a pause as Kenma expectedly waits for an explanation.
“You know I’m at work.”
“We talk all the time when you’re at the store. You’ve been spacing out lately. it’s not like you.”
“It’s not like you to say something.”
“Yeah. Just worried about you.”
“I’m sorry Ken. I have a major deadline coming up,” Akaashi says offhandedly.
“I get it.” He knows Kenma does. His 23-year-old best friend has amassed quite a demanding following from his youtube and Livestream career. He promises content just about every other day.
“Just... uh. Try to get some sleep.” Akaashi wrinkles his nose.
“It’s weird to hear you give advice. Especially about sleep. Stop it.”
“You’re right. Anyway, if you need a break, I was planning on surprising Shou with tickets to the Tokyo show. I know it’s not your thing... It’s not exactly mine either. But it’s Kuroo’s first tour with another rapper- Hinata’s idol or something. I figured that would be a good gift for his birthday. You should be there. You know how Shouyo gets- he’ll want you there.”
He’s right. While he hasn’t known Hinata-san as long as Kenma has, the 20-year-old kid has taken quite a liking to him. Akaashi signs for the fourth time this call. Dammit Kenma, he thinks. The guy knows full and well no one can say no to Hinata.
“No.”
“’Kay. It's next Friday.”
“Sorry, Kozume,” Akaashi sighs.
“We have front row seats. Do you know how much someone would pay for these tickets?”
The older boy grits his teeth. If Kenma knows anything about his friend- it’s that he’s stingy with money.
“You already bought them?”
“Of course I did. Well, it’s Kuroo, so not really, but-”
“Find someone else, Ken. I have a lot of work to do. I’m sure Tsukishima wouldn’t mind going, he likes rap.”
“...We’re talking about Shou’s birthday, Akaashi. Not his worst nightmare.”
Akaashi grunts in response. Kenma tries a new angle.
“You know, I think you might like this other artist. I guess he used to be gunning for Japan’s Olympic team. Started getting good about two years after you quit so I don’t think you’d know him. Then he injured his knee and couldn’t play anymore, turned to music.”
“You know I don’t care for volleyball anymore,” Akaashi says flatly. Like he’s done a hundred times. He picks up another carton.
“Yeah. Think about it. For Shou. Gotta stream. See you Kaashi."
“Bye, Ken.”
Akaashi rubs his temples, already knowing the outcome of this situation. He knows Kenma’s only pressing him so much because he hates crowds. And Hinata would be too starstruck to help if something happened…
It takes more time than he’d like to admit before he notices the pool of milk forming in his lap.
“Dammit, dammit.” He mutters under his breath.
“You alright there, Keiji? You’ve been kinda zoning it all day,” his supervisor, Sugawara, offers him a wide grin and some napkins.
“Oh, yes, I’m fine, Sugawara-san. My apologies.” Akaashi begins patting himself dry.
“No problem, looks like that carton had a hole in the bottom. That’s why we have aprons!” Sugawara says cheerily. “And how many times do I have to tell you, call me Suga.”
But that’s what Daichi calls you, Akaashi thinks to himself dejectedly.
“Right. Sorry, Suga.” It even tastes weird in his mouth.
“Have a break, ‘kay, Akaashi?” Sugawara helps him to his feet. Akaashi offers a small bow.
It’d be much easier to hate his ex-boyfriend’s partner/new manager if he wasn’t so damn nice.
“Yes. Thank you very much.”
Akaashi sleeps through his lunch and a little into his shift. He wipes his eyes and adjusts his glasses, then peers at his watch.
“Shit.” He rushes back into the store from his “bed” in the storage room (two fifty pound rice bags), tying his blue apron as he goes.
“‘Morning, sleeping beauty. Welcome to the real world. I need a bagger on 3,” his younger co-worker, Tsukishima, chirps. Akaashi nods and hurries over.
“Hello, ma’am. Did you find everything you were looking for today?”
It’s around five when Akaashi ends his shift. Sugawara, the bastard, let him out thirty minutes early. He relishes in his commute- the one hour in his day he gets to sit and think about nothing. He puts his headphones on and thumbs his mp3 player. When Akaashi’s finger involuntarily stops him at a particular track, he’s launched into a memory of two winters ago.
“MP3 player, wow. You don’t, uh, you don’t see those much anymore.”
Akaashi looked up from the floor of the subway and pulled his earbuds out, shocked to be met with the eyes of a tan, well built police officer settling into the seat across from him.
“Oh sorry, officer, um, what was that?”
The man, probably just a year older than him, Akaashi guessed, looked down at his uniform as if he was surprised to be in it. Then, he chuckled, albeit quite loudly. Akaashi, wildly confused, gave the brunette man a half-smile, nudging his glasses up further on his nose.
“Oh, whew. Sorry, sorry, I just got my badge today- never been called ‘officer’ before. Sounds so official.” Akaashi gave him a small, breathy laugh.
“Anyway, I just said you don’t see those a lot nowadays- the MP3 player, I mean,” The policeman gestured to Akaashi’s lap.
“Oh, right. Just had it since I was a teenager. Cheaper than streaming services, kinda.”
“I don’t know about that. Guess it depends on what you have on it.”
Akaashi smiled, "Yeah, yeah. I guess it does.”
“Oh, what, you’re just going to leave me in suspense?”
“Take a look for yourself,” Akaashi smirked, throwing the man his device, “Just don’t steal it.” That comment prompted a proper guffaw from the officer.
“No promises… Let’s see here… Well, well, well, Glasses likes some oldies, Al Green, Etta James. Impressive. You were last listening to ‘You Send Me’- Sam Cooke.”
“It’s a classic,” Akaashi pointed out.
“That it is,” The man tossed the MP3 back to him. There was a brief silence before,
“Darling youuu send me. Honest you do, honest you do, honest you do, whoooooaaaa. You thrill me,” The stocky passenger sang roughly, staring at the ceiling. Akaashi blushed fiercely, embarrassed at his company’s sudden outburst. The man opened his mouth to sing more but was interrupted by Akaashi nudging him with his foot. The officer feigned shock.
“Stop that.”
“Am I a bad singer? I’m offended, Glasses, really.”
“You just can’t do it in public.”
“I’m a police officer, remember? I can do whatever I want.”
“Oh, is that how that works?”
“It is, actually. Pretty handy.” The man continued to the next verse, now choosing to whistle. He then stopped for a moment and looked Akaashi in the eyes.
“It’s Daichi. Officer Daichi, to you.”
Akaashi gave him a small grin.
“Akaashi. Citizen Akaashi. Not Glasses.”
“Damn, and I really thought I got that one.”

saw the post about quiet-times when I was about to follow you, they actually attacked me today over saying, in the tags of a reblog from them about queeragamic, that i felt it was out of line for them to say alloaros were more oppressed than aces. agreed with the post and everything (changed my mind after). their post says to block me instead of interacting but i'm still getting people screaming insults at me + saying they'll beat me up. dunno why i'm sending this but hhhh i'm so tired
Yeah, you reblogging that post means it’s definitely on quiet-times’ radar right now. Which for some reason I was expecting that to fly by without being noticed. I’m so tired right now I don’t even care, which is weird. Maybe I’m developing a thicker skin for these kinds of things. Or maybe I’m just burnt out. Idk.
I’m sorry you’re getting anon hate. Just block the anons, seriously. That means next time you’ll get less, hopefully. I’m glad quiet-times tried to stop it, but they are a “discourse blog” so inevitably there are going to be the kinds of people following them who would send anon hate and threats regardless. Hopefully they learn from this and try to do a bit more to prevent it the next time something like this happens.
--
About the post - I have to be honest I didn’t take a lot of issue with the bit in question:
Not only that, but keep in mind that exclusionists hate aros too. Even more than they hate aces.
Mostly because it didn’t immediately flag to me as incorrect. I interpreted about it as talking about specifically the kind of online anti-ace/aro sentiment that get labeled as exclusionism. Though now I’m thinking that this doesn’t take into account the “curse of visibility” at all, where more visible groups get more hate.
Regardless, I’m not a fan of the oppression olympics that happen within aro and ace communities. Yes, different kinds of aro and ace people face different issues, and all of those issues should be addressed. We don’t need to fight over who has it the worst to do that.
Honestly, as an ace person who doesn’t like the word “queeragamic”, I took the biggest issue with this part of that post:
By making and supporting queeragamic, a term that means “nonsexual qpr,” people have sexualized queerplatonic relationships and, if this term gets popular, people are going to think qprs are exclusively sexual. Asexuals aren’t gonna wanna use that term anymore resulting in us being even more divided than before.
What about aces who have sex? What about aces who know about the word queerplatonic and are perfectly content with that word and/or don’t pay enough attention to tumblr to notice the new word? What about aces who hate the idea of using the word “agamic” to describe their relationships? Aces aren’t going to jump ship on the word queerplatonic. They’re fretting about something that would never happen.
--
Anyway, trying to use “my experiences of being aromantic are inseparable from my experiences of being allosexual,” an entirely valid statement, as a way of deflecting someone from using the word allosexual as it was intended and coined is absolutely horrid. Like, can you imagine anyone saying any of the following:
“I am unable to separate my experiences of being a cis woman from being butch. Therefore, you may not call me cisgender as a way of pointing out that I don’t have firsthand experience about being trans.”
“I am unable to separate my experiences of being alloromantic from being asexual. Therefore, you may not call me alloromantic as a way of pointing out that I don’t have firsthand experience of being aro.”
Quiet-times wouldn’t support anyone saying either of those two sentences. So why are they (and others) saying essentially the same thing about being allosexual? I get having a gut negative reaction to hearing someone say that they’re allosexual specifically in that way, but they’re not right in this situation, and if they honestly think about it for a moment I think they’ll understand that.
(And no hard feelings from me if they realize that and change their mind - we’re all learning and growing! I’d be super thrilled to see someone realize they made a poor decision on instinct and correct themselves after a bit of thought, rather than doubling down on it.)
Something that might be helpful in that is keeping in mind that the ace community does not use “allosexual” as a privileged category. Being both heterosexual and heteroromantic is the privileged category. Otherwise the relationships are considered lateral - different but not necessarily worse or better.
A lot of the people involved in this conversation might be a bit young for remembering 2015-2016 online hate directed at aces, but this was a big part of that - people were accusing aces of calling lgb allosexual people privileged for their sexuality simply because the word “allosexual” exists. So, keep in mind the above, and let’s not have more repetition of standard anti-ace sentiment coming from the allo aro community, thanks.

I was tagged by @lochley (thank you!) to do The Thing and share five of my fics, so without furthur ado.....
1. A fic you are proud of?
Pour la Peine was begun at a particularly bad point in my life, when I was really IN Solène’s shoes at that moment, and since I’ve begun it, so much has changed, not the least being my writing style. The Toho 1789 obviously came out in November, which really, really changed how I viewed certain characters and dynamics. I think I would have written it very differently, for example, if I’d known that in the Toho, Olympe and Solène hold one another after Ronan’s death. And it’s really, really hard to keep the characters consistent when you have that kind of constantly shifting idea of who the characters ARE. That being said, it’s also currently my longest running fic, despite being for a “MINI-FIC” prompt, it’s one of my first real experiments with a running plotline and plot twists, even if I feel like most of them are probably easy to see coming (but, then again, that’s because I KNOW them, so there is definitely that), and it’s also one of my first times working with a developing relationship. I’m going to be absolutely thrilled to see the back of it and I’ll never be fully happy with it because to me, it will never be up to what I HOPED it would be, but I’ve learned a LOT from it.
2. A fic you are excited about?
God, I have so many ideas on the backburner that I’ve been itching to get to. I have a few Margrid/Orléans ideas that I’m really excited to toy with, because I really, really enjoy working with this ship since it’s such a break from the norm.(What, a tragic interclass love affair where one ends up killing the other, ft. the French Revolution? I’ve never done that before.)
One that I’ve really, really been pumped to write for MONTHS now is the Fairytale AU, in no small part because it was really a chance for me to go back to my roots in the Fantasy genre. I DID put research into it as far as looking up folklore motifs and variations that I could use, but a LOT of it is much more freeing than really....the type of hard-ish historical fiction I tend to write. It’s very different, and in the end, I’m not sure how much it’s a fairy tale and how much it’s 1789 or whether it’s really...EITHER of them at this point, but I’m happy with what progress I DO have.
3. A fic that was challenging to write?
Personally, I don’t believe in a completely pain-free experience when it comes to writing. I learn something new from each fic, but it’s definitely knowledge that I have to fight for every ounce of. Honey Plunged Into Water, though, is probably the SINGLE most difficult to get off the ground.
I started it for a fic writing exchange treat, thought “Okay, I can write smut that’s 300 words. A little tight, but sure thing. After all, these exchanges are about expanding our horizons, right?” It was a little darker than I was used to, M/F, and smut, all three of which are generally things I would NOT go for (see below for Me VS Smut: The Ongoing Conflict), but, hey, I could do it, right? And I wanted to work with new fandoms and new ideas that I normally wouldn’t work with, so it seemed like a fun little challenge.
Then I realized. Triple drabbles weren’t allowed. Neither were double. I had to cut out 200 words of material that included some lines I was very proud of and try to figure out how to keep as much as I COULD in 100 words. Because I COULDN’T really give it up when I already had THAT MUCH DONE (and nowhere to really dump the scraps, anyway). It was a truly monstrous, brutal editing process, but it taught me a lot in a short span and I got a positive response from the person I wrote it for, so....win/win?
Note: Next time the drabble exchange comes around....nope. Sorry. Been there, done that. Y’all will have to get your dark femdom smut drabble from somewhere else.
4. A fic that was something you hadn’t tried before?
A Pressing Matter. On multiple levels. I don’t CONSIDER myself as a smut writer; the whole thing’s personally a little embarrassing for me. I really, really don’t think that I have any particular knack for it, and so the final product always seems stilted and awkward when I DO try it out. So, it was terrifying to publish it, it was terrifying to know that ANYONE could read it and judge the contents, but I am happy that I did after ages of threatening and that it’s been warmly received.
5. If you had to choose one fic above all to share, what would it be?
Probably Forgiveness (Can You Imagine?). Or Fowl Play. I’m incredibly, incredibly honored that both of them have garnered the attention that they have and that people are still INVESTED in them after all this time, not the least because they were also a lot of fun to write and work with.

Play Upon Me Like This Piano - chapter twenty-five
Summary: In many ways, Phil’s life is perfect: he loves his life in London, he has a wonderful brother and parents, and he has a great job as a radio DJ for BBC Radio One. There’s only one thing missing in his life… A rumor reaches an executive at the BBC about a talented local piano player named Daniel. The executive decides that Daniel would be the perfect guest on Phil’s radio show, so she sends Phil to speak with the evasive and mysterious piano player.
When they finally meet, Phil starts to think that he has found the person who will make his life complete. Unfortunately, Dan has a secret that will make getting close to him difficult.
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 2224
Warnings: Smut
—
Siren fact: From The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen (1836): “Do you not love me the best of them all?” the eyes of the little mermaid seemed to say, when he took her in his arms, and kissed her fair forehead.
“Yes, you are dear to me,” said the prince; “for you have the best heart, and you are the most devoted to me; you are like a young maiden whom I once saw, but whom I shall never meet again. I was in a ship that was wrecked, and the waves cast me ashore near a holy temple, where several young maidens performed the service. The youngest of them found me on the shore, and saved my life.”
‘Ah, he knows not that it was I who saved his life,’ thought the little mermaid… and the mermaid sighed deeply, but she could not shed tears. ‘He says the maiden belongs to the holy temple, therefore she will never return to the world. They will meet no more: while I am by his side, and see him every day. I will take care of him, and love him, and give up my life for his sake.’ [http://hca.gilead.org.il/li_merma.html]
The second he was submerged in water, the current dragged him down. He locked his lips, holding desperately onto the air in his lungs since he wasn’t sure when he would be able to reach the surface, and he started kicking. They were jerky sporadic kicks which wouldn’t have moved him far, but his toes were spread and the webbed skin was made for this. As he added his hands to the effort, his head soon broke the surface and he sucked in a breath. He swiped the saltwater from his eyes, feeling how the skin between his fingers had become webbed as well from the water.
Dan’s body was made for this, and that fact sent a thrill of panic through him. He had avoided water for so many years out of fear that his body would betray him as a siren, but that hadn’t been the only reason. He was also desperately afraid of how at home he felt in the water. It felt like he should have been in the water the whole time, and that feeling terrified him, like maybe he would never be able to get out.
Pushing those thoughts away, he focused on the task at hand. Cornelia would likely be reaching the end of the pier and searching for him, so he took another deep breath before diving below the water to hide from her searching gaze. Then he kicked his legs, pulled forward in the water with his hands, and started swimming like he’d been shot out of a cannon. As he swam like an Olympic athlete, he had to accept once more that his body had been built for this. For once, Dan was grateful for this fact as he was buffeted by the current of the sea, which was churned by the storm. If he were a normal man, he wouldn’t have been able to fight his way forward. There wouldn’t be the slightest chance he could save Phil.
Phil… he was all that was important right now. Dan focused all of his will on pushing himself forward in the water, faster and faster. He remembered that thought he had had about them living in the same city together for so long, passing each other on the street. As they unknowingly passed nearer and nearer to each other, they moved like ships in the sea being pulled by the current until they finally came to this common destination. It was like fate.
Now that Dan literally was in the sea, he hoped the current was taking him closer to Phil and that fate was once more helping him. Perhaps his body could help a bit more though… he could hear well underwater, and he focused on searching for a sound: the motor of a boat, water slapping against the side of a ship, and maybe Phil’s voice. Phil would be talking because he wasn’t dead. He was out here somewhere. And Dan would find him.
Dan had more stamina than the average man in water, but it wasn’t boundless, especially in this turbulent sea. It was hard to judge since it was night, but he was sure that hours had passed by the time a boat finally appeared in the distance. He cried out in relief at the sight – his muscles had been cramping and it had been getting harder to keep his head above water, so he had started to think that he would drown before he found the boat. He would sink beneath the bottom of the ocean, down beneath the waves, and he would never know what had happened to Phil…
Except now he could see the boat in the distance, and he really was crying. He convinced his tired muscles to drag him there as he fought his way through the waves, all the while trying to catch glimpses of the boat as he got nearer. Was Phil anywhere to be seen? Was the boat damaged? Did it look abandoned? He couldn’t tell, as it was taking all of his effort just to keep his head above water and the boat in his sights.
Finally, it was looming before him, and he shouted, “Phil!”
The wind was so strong that his shout barely reached his own ears, and as he opened his mouth to shout again a wave smacked him in the face and water forced its way into his mouth. Dan went under for a moment, feeling himself being dragged down. He kicked furiously to reach to the surface, and when he did he coughed and saw black spots floating across his vision – if he didn’t get out of here soon he would drown.
Remembering a detail about this boat from when he saw it earlier, Dan swam in a circle until he found it: a ladder. He grabbed the rungs and started to pull himself up, but his exhausted muscles shook in protest and refused to work. He had to loop his arm through one of the higher rungs of the ladder until he could lift himself high enough to add his feet to the effort. Then he was able to drag himself up the ladder and onto the deck.
Dan collapsed facedown on the deck of the boat as it rocked with the storm. The deck below his face was damp and he watched as his exhalations shifted a small puddle. The rain continued to fall. Now that he was out of the sea, the raindrops felt freezing and they hit his skin hard enough to sting. Still, he couldn’t bring himself to move right now, as all his muscles were burning. He focused on catching his breath and calming his racing heart.
Calming his heart wasn’t possible though, as he panicked with the realization that he was finally here on Phil and Martyn’s boat, yet he didn’t see either of them. Pressing his palms into the deck, he forced himself up onto his knees, and the exertion forced a pained whimper from his lips. He was so tired…
Dan looked around, but the deck was abandoned. Had Phil and Martyn fallen overboard? For a mad moment, Dan thought about leaping back into the water to search the bottom of the ocean for them. Then he forced himself to be rational and looked closer at the boat. The sail was tied, a sign that someone had been sensible enough to know that there was no use for a sail when the winds were this strong. The people on this boat had prepared when they saw the storm coming.
Then Dan saw the door that led below deck, and his heart jumped into his throat – that was the only place they could be if they were safely hiding from the storm. He swallowed heavily and started dragging himself over on his hands and knees, like a small child who hadn’t yet learned how to walk yet. He felt like child right now, so scared and helpless in the face of impending loss. He hadn’t felt like this in years, not since his mother left the man who raised him, and he’d realized that the man he thought of as his dad didn’t care about him – he’d lost half his family that day. As Dan felt the same thing right now, he knew that he had started to think about Phil in the same way, as family. Had he already lost Phil, too?
Dan gripped the door to the cabin, using the knob as support so that he could raise himself shakily to a stand. The knob started to turn under his hand – he didn’t believe it for a moment until he saw it shift under his webbed fingers – and he let go with a startled gasp. He stepped aside as the door swung open.
Phil stood in the doorway. His mouth hung slightly open and his eyes were wide, but that was all the detail that Dan could see in this dim lighting. It was all he needed to see anyway as he cried out in relief at the sight of Phil and launched himself at him. They tumbled backwards, and belatedly Dan realized that Phil had been standing at the top of a small staircase. There was a terrifying moment of freefalling, and through the disorientation of it he felt Phil’s arms wrap tight around him. Then they impacted. Dan’s teeth clicked shut almost painfully with the force and he heard the breath rush out of Phil’s chest, which his head was pillowed against.
It seemed to take Phil’s chest a moment to rise again, long enough that Dan got worried, and he sat up enough so that he could see Phil’s face. He had a clear view of him now that they were below deck, as there were lanterns hung from the ceiling above, casting a yellow glow on the space as they rocked merrily with the waves. Dan asked, “Are you alright?”
Phil only nodded. It seemed like the breath had been knocked painfully from his chest when Dan had landed on top of him, and he was still focusing on remembering how to breathe properly.
“Dan? How did you get here?” someone asked.
Dan looked to the side, seeing Martyn standing nearby as he stared at the door that was flapping in the breeze at the top of the staircase. Seeing him, Dan just smiled broadly, glad that Phil’s brother was also alright.
Martyn returned the smile as he asked, “Did you come with a rescue boat? Is someone here to save us?”
Dan didn’t know what to say to that, so he just stared at Martyn. No one was here to save them, no one but Dan, and there wasn’t anything he could really do now that he was here. Not waiting for an answer, Martyn stepped over their legs, which were tangled at the bottom of the staircase, and he jogged up the stairs and onto the deck to look for a rescue boat that wasn’t out there.
Returning his attention to the man lying underneath him, Dan saw Phil staring at him with a curious expression on his face. Phil asked, “What are you doing here?”
Back at the Lifeboat Station when there had been nothing to do but look at a clock and wait for Phil to be found, Dan had had a lot of time to think. He thought about the last words he had said to Phil, and how unjust it would have been if those really had been The Last Words. Phil deserved so much more, and Dan had prepared a whole speech to say when they were finally reunited.
As he opened his mouth to begin reciting it, he changed his mind at the last second. Instead what tumbled from his lips was the simple truth, “I love you.”
Phil blinked in surprise. “You do?”
Dan nodded. As he continued staring at Phil, he saw a drop of moisture land on his cheek and he thought that his wet hair might be dripping on Phil’s face. And then Dan realized that no, he was crying because he was so happy right now.
The door closed at the top of the stairs and Martyn’s feet shuffled on the steps as he started back down to the cabin where they were. Martyn said slowly like he didn’t believe it, “There’s no boat. No one is out there. There’s just… nothing. No one but Dan.”
Phil was still looking at Dan’s face, his eyes warm and wide like he wanted to drink in every feature of his face. He opened his mouth, though Dan wasn’t sure if he was going to say something in answer to what he had told him, or what Martyn then said.
Dan knew it was silly since he was lying on top of Phil, soaking him with his clothes that were wet from swimming, but he hated the way that his tears had dampened Phil’s cheek. So, he reached up with fingertip to swipe away the tears.
Phil’s eyes focused on the webbed skin between Dan’s fingers. “Oh my God…”

Thanks to HDR (High Dynamic Range), you’ll get vivid colors, inky blacks and the sharpest picture imaginable. And shoppers love that you can plug it directly into the internet. And shoppers love that you can use its included remote to control their TVs too.
“Roku is super easy to set up and cheaper than cable,” wrote a five-star Walmart shopper. “If you do not have a smart TV you will with a Roku. If you’re sick of vacuuming and lint-rolling your couch and bed, this nifty little gadget can help. It picks up pet hair like a pro, minus the sticky, hard-to-peel-off sheets. Note
on those headcanons, im gonna be mildly predictable here and ask for mokuba
Character: Mokuba Kaiba
1: sexuality headcanon
I actually headcanon Mokuba to be a Demisexual.
2: otp
I actually do not have an OTP with Mokuba sadly. The show had and or made sure that Mokuba was away from lovers quarrel. Mokuba was away from any romantic nonsense. There was no young female characters hitting on Mokuba and even so Mokuba was not interested on dating at all, he was like only ten. He had other things to worry about like for example, Kaiba Corp and making sure his family never breaks apart once again or else he would not be able to take it, he would shatter and that’s the last thing Seto, his older brother, would ever want. I am so sorry but I have nothing for Mokuba.
3: brotp
Jounouchi Katsuya because, They would be so close together, like a second older brother for Mokuba. They would have rare prank wars waged with Seto being the poor victim of it. They would also play games, video games for that matter. Call of Duty, Mario and Sonic at the olympic games (London being both their go to) and Pokemon being their favorite games. Once Jounouchi was so desperate to complete the national dex and Mokuba had the one Pokemon he needed and in order for him to get it, He had to buy Mokuba a slurpee and next thing you know, Jounouchi is walking home with his national dex completed and suffering because he was going to use that money to buy dinner so Jounouchi had ramen noodles that night. Jounouchi snapchats Mokuba like all the time on stupid shit because where Jounouchi lives, it’s so fucking wild. Jounouchi practically lives in the “hood”.
Anzu Mazaki because, Mokuba likes to hang out with her. Anzu could be the older sister. They love to go to cafes together and chat about new things with a hot cup of tea. Things like how Kaiba Corp is starting to expand worldwide, Anzu listening on happily as Mokuba is so thrilled about it that he is forgetting that he is not alone, that she is having to watch him be so enthusiastic about it. Anzu would also teach Mokuba basic things like how to cook and clean for himself and nifty tips and tricks. They would also work out together if they have time, Yoga and cardio mostly. Last thing is that Anzu would absolutely help Mokuba with his homework if he is having any problems. He would ask Seto but he knows that he is too busy running as CEO of Kaiba Corp so he calls and texts Anzu that he is struggling with Algebra. She gladly helps him. Mokuba knows that Anzu is smart.
4: notp
There are people who do ship TabloidShipping, Seto Kaiba X Mokuba Kaiba as far as I am aware. Its incest and I am not up for that. I don’t know why people would ship that but- here we are in 2017 I guess.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head
As most of you are aware, I do headcanon that Mokuba as transgirl, using She/He/They pronouns. I generally headcanon that Mokuba’s wardrobe is fairly mixed with both masculine clothing and feminine clothing. From suits to dresses. Mokuba has it all. Mokuba’s taste in fashion is much better than Seto’s as Seto has taste for simple things like suits and ties while Mokuba is more caught up with their generation of fashion trends. Hell even that one time he saw their big brother in that White suit, They wanted to burn that thing to the ground because god was it tacky, even for him. Mokuba owns quite a lot of amazing clothes but the top three things in his wardrobe are:
-This leather jacket that basically yells out that Mokuba really loves flower embroidered clothing
-This black dress that makes Mokuba feel so pretty
-These boots that Seto bought for Mokuba for his 14th birthday because Seto knows how much Mokuba loves flower embroidered clothing
Combine all these three things and Mokuba has the best outfit the world has ever seen.
6: one way in which I relate to this character
We both have an older brother. I do not care for my older brother at all so I cannot relate so well with Mokuba because he would do anything to make his brother happy. I never cared about my family so well, I lost the care to love for them ages ago.
7: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
There is nothing that would make me embarrassed about liking Mokuba. In fact, Mokuba Kaiba is my third favorite character in Duel Monsters, he even beat out Atem and Yugi for me. One thing that does make me feel rather riled up is the fact that the fandom (Facebook more so) is really clueless when it comes to how Mokuba is such an amazing character. They use the whole "but he gets kidnapped all the time” as a gag to make Mokuba seem worthless and that Mokuba should not even exist at all since he brings nothing to the table. That is a lie and I just stare at my screen with the world’s blankest face because it’s an everyday thing as far as it goes. Mokuba is so much more than the "damsel in distress” sure he got kidnapped from time to time but that is no reason to use that against his character, or better yet use that as a defining character trait. Trust me, they use the whole kidnapping thing as a character trait for him and its beyond me.
8: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
Both actually. Season 0 wise he was a little munchkin, you know that one episode of MPGIS where the little barbie doll is just like
“It was me! Mikayla Van Buren!““Jesus Christ, Is that a fucking gremlin?” “No. I’m a third grader!” “Whatever, just no one feed that fucking thing after midnight.”
Thats Mokuba in Season 0 in a nutshell. I love him so much though. Duel Monsters wise : I LOVE HIM! THAT’S MY SON WHO I WILL LOVE AND PROTECT WITH THE REST OF MY LIFE. Dark Side Of Dimensions wise :

Yuletide Letter 2017
Dear Holiday Hero,
It’s that time of year, and against my better judgment, I have signed up for Yuletide. I’ve successfully Yuletided every year since the challenge began, and that is good news for you. Over the years, I’ve learned that the best Yuletide gifts are the ones that weren’t quite what I had expected, and also that gifts are satisfying and joyful for me as long as it’s clear that the author put effort and care into them. Basically, as long as you avoid my Do Not Wants and run spellcheck, I’m going to be over the moon with excitement at whatever you write for me.
My biggest non-obvious DNW is babyfic. No pregnancy, no babies, no little kids. I’m also a grumpy Jew, so I’d prefer not to receive stories with strong Christmas themes. Hanukkah themes are fine for canon Jewish characters, but even that isn’t really my scene. The “five things” format is not my favorite.
But I like a lot more things than I dislike! Unless the Yulegoat arrives late, I’ll be reading this on the train to Chinatown for my traditional family dim sum, so please do make me laugh out loud on the L. Or make me uncomfortably aroused on the L. (Porn is optional, obviously, but: blow jobs, eroticized hands, exhibitionism, shower sex, gender play.) I like experimental structures and styles, as well as more standard ones, and I am fine with whatever POV and tense you choose. I like stories that stick close to canon, and I also like superhero and In Space AUs.
I tend to write the fic I want to see in the world, so you’ll get a good sense of me by browsing my AO3. I haven’t been reading tons of fic lately because the adulting has hit hard this year, but my AO3 bookmarks serve as a recs list/stash of stories that I will read over and over.
Here are the individual requests from my sign-up:
Madam Secretary: Blake Moran
Blake was my ride-or-die favorite character even before he came out, and now I get to ask you to have fun with his canon bisexuality in addition to his talent for sarcasm and his tendency to be in rooms where he probably shouldn't be. If you want to write romance, I lowkey ship him with Dmitri Petrov, but I'd be equally thrilled with a story that explored his dynamics with Elizabeth and/or Nadine. No romantic shipping with them, though, and I'm not a fan of Blake/Mike B., either. This show has become an escapist, Utopian depiction of an alternate United States that is run by competent people who generally mean well, so I'd love an exploration of how the events of 2017 might have played out differently with the Dalton administration in charge. I'd also enjoy reading some Blake backstory, particularly about his time at Harvard or what he did in the time between Wall Street and this job. Or I am always down for an In Space AU.
Pod Save America: Any character
I saw PSA in the tag set and my first thought was, a story narrated entirely in commercials, in which each paragraph ends with "A better way to -----." If you're not up for that level of experimental prose, keep it within the bounds of the podcast, but give me the version that would have existed if Hillary Clinton were President. Or Conrad Dalton (see request #1). Or the version that exists after the aliens land and declare their sovereignty over all of humanity. I haven't requested specific characters because I'd prefer an ensemble piece where all are involved. Do your best to keep the irreverent tone of the pod, and to keep it at least somewhat responsive to contemporary American politics.
Figure Skating RPF: Shoma Uno
Shoma is astounding on the ice, but I'm requesting him for fic because he's one of the most intriguing personalities in figure skating these days. He's shy, he's intensely competitive, he's a daredevil, and he has a wicked sense of humor that sometimes gets him in trouble. Ship him with Yuzuru Hanyu, Keiji Tanaka, or both, or neither. I will also eagerly accept improbable crackshipping with Jason Brown. I'd prefer a story set in the here and now, as he prepares for the Olympics, with all of the different kinds of pressure that puts on him. Make it lighthearted or contemplative, or even PWP, but create some insight into who he is and how he's responding to the world around him.
Once again, thanks so much for writing for me! I’m looking forward to reading it!

Well, how silly am I for thinking that I wouldn’t write about you anymore? The focus here isn’t you but you surely play a important role here in this story.
Now, i’m at Rio de Janeiro for tomorrow’s Panic! At The Disco concert at Rock In Rio and all I could think yesterday when I arrived here was about the last time I was here at Rio in 2016 and well, was here at that time that I made a decision that fucked up my life and sent me into a dark pit for 2017 and 2018.
How do I start? Just before this trip we were almost breaking up for a few reasons, it impacted some decisions that were made. You were coming to Rio to watch the Olympics game, you were planning to come here with your mother for a whole week, but she wouldn’t be able to spend the week here and just some days at the end, so you invited me to come with you and use your mother’s tickets for those days. I confess that I was very happy with this possibility but also my dad was on a process of maybe being awarded with a trip with all incluse for him and one more people for some days here at Rio for the Olympics.
But shortly before this trip, as I was almost sure we were going to break up I was searching new stuff to do, and I had filled a application online to work at a cruise ship, little I know back then that I was fucking my mental health for the next two years. But when I filled the application I didn’t took it too seriously and I thought it would result in nothing.
At the week that you were already here, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to come, my brother was very close to born and my dad couldn’t leave my stepmother there hanging. So he started to try to convince the sponsor that had given him the trip to change the reservation for me and a friend of mine.
As I was waiting to know if I would come here or not, you invited a friend to come with you and we barely were talking at the week before I arrived here at Rio.
And so I arrived here, what was next? Was a short trip for me, we would come on a Monday morning and by Thursday night we would be coming back home, so y’all (i’m saying y’all as if I had a lot of readers here, while probably no one ever read this) can see that I had a short timeframe for things to happen while here.
We talked briefly on the phone but we weren’t really planning on seeing each other. But as I was scrolling through twitter I found out that our favorite band was playing here on a free concert to gather people to look at some cultural movements that were going on, I had to invite you to it even though we were barely talking to each other.
Well, me and my friend went to grab a burger before the concert, I invited you there cause you know, besides everything that was going on between us I was still very in love with you and wanting to make things come right for us. You got there at the burger joint as we were almost finishing, but it was cool cause we all could split a cab to the concert venue.
Crazy how some moments are completely unforgettable, right?
So we picked a cab and my friend went to the front seat, leaving only us at the back seat. We did talked a bit but wasn’t much going on, then I remember I tried to put my arms around you and you kind of pushed me away, I remember this rejection of yours as it had happened to me yesterday.
We get to the venue and went to the line, was a huge line. And after some minutes there, you came to me, hugged me and gave me a kiss. I was so fucking happy, (I remember to told you how this was one of my happiest moments with you, cause the turnaround of thinking we were over, to having you kissing me was something to put me over the clouds) but as we were back together, I was supposed to make a decision about this cruise ship working opportunity. That same day, earlier, the company called me to schedule a interview, it was on the next day, and to be really honest, I wasn’t thrilled about it, I wasn’t one of those people who dreamed of working on a ship.
I talked about it to you while we were at the line and I remember to told you “Just say that I don’t need to do this interview, cause I really only thought on it for the first place cause I thought we were over, if we back together I have no need for this.” You said no, even tough I think you wanted me to stay, you said that I should follow this opportunity.
Well, we spend the concert together and it was awesome, we also spend the next day together at the beach, we both and my friend. I was flying back on the next day, so we kind of solved the problems we have from before and we both seem very happy to have sorted this out. I remember that while I was at the airport waiting to come back I wrote you a text about all my feelings for you and how I was happy for us to be together again. Was probably one of the more heartfelt things I have ever wrote.
That peace between us didn’t last much longer, I think that on the very next week we were already arguing about dumb stuff, REAL DUMB SHIT! And well, we eventually sorted it all out and would be together for more 2 years. But after all of this I went to work at the ship and everything went south after that, with me kind of recovering only now.
(Well, I just opened my instagram and guess if wasn’t you there showing up on a picture with a friend, damn you still looking sensational)
Funny how I still miss you from time to time and even more, I miss so much having somebody to share everything, but I guess that’s it, i’m done for today.

Of Ribbons and Needles
The name had been tongue-in-cheek, a jab at the older generations making fun of millennials and the like, but it was also clever branding. When he had suggested it when he had managed to meet Tim Gunn, the fashion guru was so thrilled at the layered meanings that he insisted that Jack go through with it. With his heartfelt endorsement, the name garnered plenty of attraction. After all, wasn’t every bride (or groom) a Special Snowflake?
Jack’s specialty boutique boasted that just like a snowflake, each dress and suit was unique and designed perfectly for every lucky bride- or groom-to-be. Sure, there was the occasional ‘zilla, but the majority of his clients more than made up for it.
On an early October day, his assistant Jamie poked his head into the main sewing room. “Jack, your 2 o’clock consult is here. She’s a little nervous, should i pull out the snacks and wine?”
“Ask them if they’d like any first, and remind them that no drinks or food are allowed near the dresses. Wine stains are a bitch to sponge out,” he added through gritted teeth, grinning around a mouthful of pins. Jamie chuckled as he disappeared back toward the front. Jackson Overland, or Jack Frost as he advertised himself in the industry, finished pinning the mock-up against the mannequin so it wouldn’t fall apart and onto the floor. Satisfied, he headed to the waiting room while giving his glasses a quick cleaning. “Good afternoon ladies! Oh--and gentleman!” he added in surprise.
There were three women who, other than their hair colors and very subtle differences, could have been triplets but were at the very least cousins; a muscular blonde woman whom he had a feeling could bench press him with no issue; and a lanky brunet man who looked far too tall for the chair he had chosen. As appealing as he was, Jack had to focus on the bride. “So, who is miss Rapunzel?”
“That’s me!” The brunette woman of the trio chirped with a nervous grin. “I’m Rapunzel. These are my cousins, Elsa and Anna,” she gestured to the platinum blonde and the redhead, “and my other bridesmaid, Astrid.” The other woman grinned and waved. “The fishbone over there is my maid of honor, Hiccup.”
“It’s Hayden,” he said with a laugh as he stood up. “Hiccup is my nickname, my parents didn’t actually name me that,” he added as he shook Jack’s hand.
The albino swallowed slightly and nodded with a grin. “Nice to meet you, Hayden. And it’s lovely to meet all of you lovely ladies as well!” He shook hands with them all, grimacing at Astrid’s grip. “What do you even do?”
“I’m on break from training for the Olympics,” she said. “I’m aiming for the modern pentathlon event!” She noticed his clueless expression and quickly added, “Pistol shooting, fencing, swimming, running, and horse riding.”
Jack let out a very impressed whistle. “I’ll be rooting for you then! And you, Miss Rapunzel, what do you do for a living then?”
“I’m an artist! I do murals most of the time, for people’s homes but also for public places like the library!” Rapunzel beamed as she fiddled with a bit of hair. “It’s a lot of fun and really relaxing. Plus I love seeing the kids’ faces when they come home and find I’ve added a mural to their rooms! It makes for a great birthday gift.”
“I bet!” Jack pulled his notebook out of his pocket and sat down across from the couch where the three relatives sat. “Now, I’m sure that means you have some ideas for your dress already, right?”
Rapunzel bit her lip. “Umm...ivory?”
Elsa rolled her eyes affectionately. “What she means is that she has no idea yet what she wants. What I can tell you though is that it’s going to be a spring wedding, and she wants a flower crown with a veil tied to it.”
“Elsa!”
“You asked me to help you plan your wedding, and that includes helping you when you get worried.”
Oh boy, Jamie wasn’t kidding when he said the bride was nervous. This was going to take a bit. “Well, how about we try a few dresses on first? Figure out the best shape, and then go from there? Having one on can help with knowing what you don’t want rather than what you do want.” Jack helped Rapunzel up and led her toward the back.
Jamie quickly swooped in to take care of the bridesmaids and man. “Alright, how about we start looking at some bridal party outfits?” he asked brightly.
In the dressing room Jack had quickly pulled a few dresses in for the bride-to-be’s approval. “So, do you like ball gowns?” he asked with a grin.
The huge skirt so surprised Rapunzel that she started giggling. “I don’t think so. I think I’d be swallowed up by it!”
“Yeah, ballgowns are hard to pull off, I won’t lie. Stand up in front of the mirror please?” He situated her in front of the multi-mirror and looked at her from multiple angles. “Hmm, a really wide skirt wouldn’t work, I think. So no princess or ball gown silhouettes. And what do you think about asymmetrical?”
“Um...I don’t think I like the asymmetrical cut. I want something more classic.”
“Right! Okay, mermaid style? There’s also the sheath column, or the A-line.”
“I’ll try them on!”
While Jack was helping Rapunzel with the bridal gown, Jamie was walking the bridal party through the dresses. “So is there anything in particular that the bride-to-be wants?”
“Just that we all have the same color and similar styles,” Anna piped up. She was almost prancing through all the beautiful dresses with sparkling eyes. “She wants us to wear a purple shade, but she said whichever style looks best on us is fine!”
“Different styles? A little unorthodox, but not the oddest request. Once we had to have fittings for a sledding team,” Jamie commented. Hayden snickered as the other continued. “But I think I have just the color. I’m going to guess it’s her favorite?”
“More that it’s the only one Astrid agreed to wear,” Hayden snarked. The Olympian rolled her eyes. “But do you think you could help me with something?”
Jamie furrowed his eyebrows together. “Possibly…?”
Jack sighed a bit as he wiped at his forehead. Rapunzel slumped on the chair in the dressing room with her head in her hands. “Oh, this is hopeless! I’m never going to figure this out!”
“Let’s not lose hope, we figured out the silhouette! And you don’t want a sleeveless dress, but you do want a sweetheart kind of neckline. Why don’t we take a breather and check on your bridal party, hm? They can help out with ideas too, and you can relax a little!” He helped her out of the last dress and back into her sun dress. “Come on, Jamie usually has tea in the back so I’ll see if he can make some for you.”
She gave him a smile and squeezed his hand. “Thank you, Jack. Really. When Ella had mentioned that you were an amazing designer, she didn’t mention just how kind you were too!”
“Awww, it’s nothing.” Jack’s cheeks tinged red and he grinned. “I like helping people, and there are so many brides that almost freak out completely! I should be thanking you for not being a bridezilla!”
“Oh gosh, that would be terrible! I can only imagine how awful they are!” she exclaimed with a shudder, wrapping her arm around his offered one. “How do you manage?”
“It helps that they’re paying me, for one thing,” he joked. “But really if not for Jamie and my little sister Emma I’d have gone nuts!”
“Does she help too?”
“Yeah, I tried to pay her but she refuses. Apparently helping me sew is a hobby for her?” He shrugged. “I guess it helps her destress from law school. But hey, anything for my little sis! If sewing is what she wants, then she can help me sew to her heart’s content.” When they reached the bridal party section they noticed that everyone else was waiting around a dressing room with giggles. Hayden was conspicuously missing. Jack raised one silver eyebrow at Jamie.
The brunet flung open the door with a flourish, revealing that he was in a strapless lilac purple gown with a gold sash accentuating his waist. The skirt flared out and ended a few inches above his knees due to his height being over six feet, showing off long freckled legs and one foot. Jack’s glasses slid down his nose as his eyes went huge, just like Rapunzel’s. Hayden simply grinned. “Punzie, I know you’ve been so nervous, so we all decided that for the ceremony we’d all wear a dress. What do you think of this one for me? Too long?”
It was too much. Rapunzel hid a snort behind her hand, and then burst out into gales of laughter. “O-oh my god!! Someone--haha--oh man, Hiccup, you--hahaha!--are too much!! Someone get a picture!”
“On it!” Astrid quickly snapped pictures of Hayden, who obligingly vogued.
Jack cracked up and shook his head. “Please send those to me! I am so putting this online, it’ll get my site so many views!”
Hayden shot him a grin. “How about I tag you on Facebook instead? But I can still send them to you if you want? Email or text?”
“Text is faster, emails sometimes get sent to my spam. Jeez, I think that hemline is too much for the wedding, Mr. Hayden!”
“Please, call me Hiccup.”
Well, here I am, back in the hijack fandom! It’s been quite a long time, but it feels good to be writing for this ship again! It’s a bit of a slow start, but I think you’re going to like this week’s fic! Do enjoy this alternative take~

I'm the anon who asked about the masculine thing for the 5 times. And I think my face turned redder than a tomato. I'm sorry. That wasn't my intention at all. The request was inspired by a post I saw saying Yuuri and women acted more women and I think I was upset about the labels and wanted to see someone who saw masculine qualities in them too. I completely get that masculinity and femininity are concepts and I think I just wanted to see a break from 'gay relationship = non-masculine.
I hope my tone didn’t come across as upset or cruel, because that was not my intention at all! I understood where you were coming from with the ask, because I also share the common gripe with characterization in fandom when characters are feminized and infantilized, typically the perceived “weaker” character, and placed into what one might say is the “traditional” female role of a heteronormative relationship. i’ve seen some discourse going around about this the past few days, and i’ve kind of just scrolled through it and moved on, because the luxury of a fandom as broad as YOI, with such consistently good content is that the discourse is a lot easier to ignore, as is the gross, annoying fetishization that commonly comes with shipping two male characters together. whenever i’m in a fandom where DLDR is an option, i’m just like, thrilled. i’m thrilled that we have enough amazing authors and artists producing quality content on a regular basis, and i try to only follow those people (though i do go into the tags quite a bit), and ignore the stuff i don’t like.
i do write about m/m ships and read about m/m ships predominately, because the broad idea of masculinity to me is something worth dissecting and investigating blurring the borders a little bit. to write out how a character might inhabit “masculine traits” however i think whittles down gender identity the same way that putting men (or women) in “feminine” roles in relationships, you feel me? it’s a very complicated thing, made more complicated by the fact that gender identity and traditional gender roles are perceived so differently across different cultures and subcultures, and gender is expressed in drastically different ways as well. instead of trying to so starkly reinforce a man’s masculinity by asking “what makes him masculine,” i think it is just more important to play around with them as a character according to their culture and background, and try to see where gender expression and play might develop and change. like, when i try to get into victor’s head, i’m not saying “OKAY HERE IS THE ALPHA MALE, WHAT WOULD A MAN DO IN THIS SITUATION.” i always think (depending on the universe this is set in), “okay, Victor was born at the tail end of the Cold War into what eventually became the Russian Federation. He probably grew up with a certain amount of instability, was sent to an Olympic Reserve boarding school, and had his life structured entirely around a sport with room for nothing else. He probably lived away from his family. He probably toyed around with gender expression when he was sixteen as an act of rebellion due to the strict nature of his training and the sport, as an act of defiance and show of independence. As he grew up, he probably garnered a high profile both because of his athleticism, but also that of a playboy, because he’s never been taught or rewarded with any kind of emotional or physical intimacy. Despite that, he is very open, he wants to learn, he wants to fill his life with all the luxuries he was not afforded when he was younger, and we see that through his designer lifestyle, but also the genuine, earnest, if not somewhat clumsy way he pursues a relationship with Yuuri.”
And THEN I ask myself how he might do something because of his gender in this very specific context. I think it’s more important to ask about how Victor would see himself as masculine or not in this context, rather than ask how Victor fits into our perceived idea of masculinity. And same with Yuuri, and all other characters.
I think it’s also important that instead of brawling it out in the discourse thunderdome that we just create content that reflects our own ideas, and create critical narratives. Be the Masc4Masc Victuuri you want to see in the world. And so I never really took issue with your question, because I agree with you that a lot of people creating content force Victor and Yuuri into certain stereotypes or dynamics or gender roles that don’t speak to their gender identity or character, and that can be really frustrating!! But at the same time, addressing such broad issues in such a small space is difficult for me (as you can see above). Gender is a lot more and a lot less complicated than we give it credit for all at once. So I hope you read this and leave feeling better. Don’t feel stupid, and please don’t be upset or any other awful thing. I’m definitely on your side and share your frustration, just am uncomfortable trying to bullet point such a broad issue in a small space.
