I think it's his way of absolving himself of a lot of guilt. If people believe he loved them at any point and they also hear the things the 3 ex-wives are saying about the way they've been treated, there's no way for Kody to look like the good guy. He looks like a shitty person and I don't think he can stand that lol.

I think in his mind, if he says he didn't love them then it makes it more ok that he treated them unequally for over a decade, if that makes sense? Because it's not as bad to withhold time and affection from someone you're not attracted to (Christine), or someone you were just good friends with who pushed their way into your family (Janelle), or someone you "decided" you were going to try to love but never really did (Meri). It makes him sound like a martyr to himself that he ever treated any of them decently at all, because he's incapable of admitting any of the truth of the situation to himself.
