Luke is “I can save you both”

Luke would never give up on one or the other. He can’t pick and choose between the fate of the galaxy and the fate of his loved ones. He goes after Leia and Han even when his mentors warn him it could be the end of him, and thus the end of the galaxy itself. He’s confident he can do both, even if it leaves him scarred.
