Haluu! So I’m about to step into my 20s this year, and well I’d love to hear any advice you have for someone at this stage in life🙂‍↕️ Or perhaps, what would you say to your 20-year-old self that could also serve as an advice for me? By the way, you’re amazing—I adore you and your posts!
hi! tysm :') 🤍 and omg that's exciting, i'm 7 years into this rollercoaster of a decade and here are some things i would have liked someone to tell me when it was starting out:
1. your 20s are for figuring shit out. before you hit 20 you have this idea that ppl in their 20s are so grown up and have their life sorted already and i can't possibly express how untrue that is. you will learn how little you know through a lot of trial & error. trust the process tho
2. you will meet so many new challenges. it's scary but you're more capable than you realise
3. this will hit harder as the decade wears on, but don't neglect your friendships. they can make a world of difference to your mental wellbeing (if you surround yourself with the right ppl ofc)
4. don't neglect your health either. if something keeps hurting, it's probably not normal and you should get it checked if you can, it will save you years of pain. also learn to nourish yourself intuitively and move your body in ways that feel fun
6. diversify your cultural spheres and seek new experiences whenever possible
7. there is a balance between living in the moment and still memorializing your days. keep a journal and take pictures; you're gonna wanna look back on these years
8. it's never too late to pivot your career goals and that doesn't mean you failed; success can look very different from what you imagined
9. when you hit 20 you're still you; the you who was 19 is still there, as well as the you who was 18, 17, 12, 7, etc. recognize and cherish the through-lines of your being: the things you've always loved, that fascinate you. your life will go through ebbs and flows, seasons dedicated to different interests that appear, wane, and later return, if you don't rush them. the bedrock of your core self is still there underneath, and you can always return to it if you lose your direction
10. don't ever sell your integrity; it's an unfashionable concept, but having principles and standards you can hold yourself to makes a big difference
11. don't take yourself too seriously, and have fun!
