going to [redacted threat] every executive who decided to have a 4:3 show "remastered" in 16:9. i can accept and even appreciate it if you're just expanding the frame, IF there are no significant problems with sets/equipment/etc. but cutting off the top and bottom should be like. illegal or something. not kidding. you shouldn't be allowed to just remove that and have it be the only high definition version available. there are some remastered shows and movies that were done so well, they look gorgeous, you can see details that were hidden by low resolution for decades. it's wonderful! it ENHANCES the art! and then you get shit like what they did to buffy. and it's such a shame it really is. the original cinematographers and editors deserve to have their work respected and protected. and now i'm thinking about star wars. i'm not even a big star wars fan but the special editions make me mad. i hope the original versions get officially released in HD when george lucas dies. i'm still annoyed that the wizard of oz restoration team digitally removed the wire holding up the lion's tail. the fact that they used fucking wires in the 30s is not going to break my immersion. i'm not even going to MENTION the horrific CGI they put into star trek tos. and stop colorizing black & white movies! you don't really know what color that is you're just making it up! for the love of god just leave movies and shows the way they were created!!!!!!! a film is not a living document and that's okay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#inspired by my friends rewatch but i'm also thinking about mash and many other things#like i LOVE media restoration. it can be such beautiful loving work#but decisions get made to cater to modern sensibilities and it is so disrespectful both to the crew and the viewers#i am so glad spielberg reversed his changes to E.T. and called it a mistake#blabs
