Not to go off topic, but if/when the ROs catch feelings for MC, would they tell anyone? I tried looking it up but Tumblrs search function is poopoo
Hmmm….
I think Koda would be inclined to tell Pola, as he shares a lot with her, but it might be difficult due to the distance and Koda is a more “face-to-face” sharer than over the phone.
Scarlett wouldn’t… Not to say that Zephyr wouldn’t try to get something out of her— and she may give an indication to either Lexa or Anastasia— but she’d be pretty tight lipped about it.
As for Cyrus/Cyra? I don’t know… I think they’d mention it to their grandfather, to get advice and all that, but that’s up in the air too.
Quinn would tell Alessia without hesitation.
Caden? They don’t truly have anyone to tell, barring their dearest/oldest friend, but I don’t think they’d know how to share their feelings in the first place… Not when everything feels so fresh.
Sloane… No. They don’t tell anyone. Who are they gonna tell? The brick wall? Nala?
Blake is a bit complicated as the person they’d normally tell is you, but that’s complicated for obvious reasons… I think they might contact Lilith to get some advice or they’d just talk to a random stranger on a park bench.
As for our little human gremlin? They’d either make a hypothetical situation and pose it to you (hoping you wouldn’t figure it out) or Reginald/Regina would call their grandma and ask for advice.

OC game
tagged by @crysdrawsthings THANK YOU you just made my evening with this omg !!! I have a LOT of bg OCs but these ones are the one with actual fleshed out stories:
under the cut because i wrote a lot as usual
Favorite OC | Dumbest (Affectionate) OC | OC I would be best friends with:
-> [Original Story] LUKAN. L U K A N. listen sorry, Aryn knows why, we talk abt him a lot. Luk, he's just the best, he's that dumb part of me that likes to tinker with everything and gets electrocuted because why checking if the power is still on when you can solder that component right away? he's a Prince in a fantasy world, but he has ADHD with the Hyper streak at 200%, he loves to make things but most of his inventions would end up blowing up at some point, he's totally clueless about some social situations, he is helplessly in love with Cyra but goes about it in the utterly wrong way and def has a kink in getting rejected / sassed away.
He's the type to get distracted mid-battle because Would you look at this great invention in the enemy's new catapult system!! while his poor soldiers are holding on for dear life trying to defend their Prince.
he's meme material but he's the very best and has his moments.
Newest OC:
-> [Tolkien] AMARËA !!!!! i love Amarëa she's my new Maia blorbo and I love her. Bit spoilerish but I think by now everyone interested in reading All The Fire Bright have read the Reveal so... She's Arien's daughter (andmairon's). Sung into being, and just about as annoying as a child of these two can be. Jk. she's a child. Children are of course delightful :) She however has the annoying tendency to revert to her spirit form - a ball of fire when upset. children amiright...Ossë is her favourite uncle but no one is surprised. She had a child crush on Finrod before the exile of the Noldor. I like irony as you can see. Thats a difficult conversation she will have with her dad later :)
Oldest OC:
-> [SWTOR] That would be Althia I think. She was my 1st Marauder with a terrible past (like most of my OCs ngl), young babey Jedi who got kidnapped by a Sith and raised in the academy on Korriban and ended up being the Emperor's Wrath (while still being light side because take that!)
Now I miss swtor...
Meanest OC
-> [Tolkien] I don't really have mean OCs as per say, just really sassy ones but maybe the rudest would be Aramírë, one of Aulë's Maiar. She's featured in PYL as one of the few Maiar joining Ossë in trying to bring Mairon back before he does something stupid (again). She's bold and confident and doesn't take shit from wannabe-emo-dark-lord sulking away on Númenor.
-> [SWTOR] edit: Actually my meanest OC would be Marha. She was my Jedi Knight. Jedi with a complicated relation with the Republic, was Fallen at some point, ends up as the Alliance Commander against Zakuul. Aurea's Twin sister although they grew up separately when Marha and her mother fled the invasion of their native planet by Zakuul. (Altathea - a planet of the largest community of Miraluka in this region of the galaxy.) Hates the Emperor with her whole being. Mostly a neutral Jedi, have seen too much war to be unaffected and doesn't hesitate to make the tough calls. Definitely has a cold demeanor but captivity + possession + forced leadership after second captivity by your first jailor's son will do that to you.
Softest OC:
-> [SWTOR] Aurea. my Miraluka babe, part of Zakuul's Force army and Thexan's betrothed (well before Arcann rudely nuks him) She's the softest, and goes through SO MUCH emotional horrors. She's gorgeous though and a skilled Force healer. Has an unbreakable tight bond with her Scion teammate, Elhaan. Might end up in an ot3 with him and Thexan at some point.
Most Aloof/Standoffish OC | Smartest OC:
-> [Original Story] Cyra. Lukan's L.I. My autistic child <3. About the smartest person in the room at all time. She loves books more than she loves people, hates wearing shoes and loud noises, emotions are ...complicated and there are so many of them to try to guess in others. She's of dragon kin and wears some recognisable features as such. Will bite you with poisonous fangs if you try to kiss her. Princess of The Old Times(tm), has a huge memory and will weaponise it against you. Cursed. Secretly lonely.
#tagged thingies#cassy.write#ok but now i will go back to redraw all of my stwor ocs bc i miss them !!!!

Voidtouched-blue--[Prior]
Cyra's eyes drifted off to the side for a moment as she tasted the concoction. Brows furrowed, she paused...and then took another sip. It was sweet, but didn't have the same kind of burn as some of the other bottles that sat in the cabinet. She looked back over her shoulder at the assortment of alcohol that sat just a few steps away, then back to the cup in her hand. "Well, it certainly tastes better than it smells...but I never really could get past the way it burns my nose." She shivered at the thought of it. Cyra took another sip, this time taking in more than the previous two. "It's very...uhm...sweet? It almost reminds me of tea, but it's quite obviously not tea." She blinked, realizing that he probably had more knowledge in this than she did. Her observations were nothing more than new experiences...at least for her.
To see her sit atop the table of all places was not what he’d been expecting, but it… didn’t quite surprise him. Well, a little, and a single raised brow paired with a gentle smile as she made herself comfortable fell naturally to his features, but it was a shared mirth as he listened to her own admittance of sense, the soft jest earning a soft breath of a laugh. What a pair they made.
Silvaire did feel a bit more comfortable knowing she wanted to drink to some degree, and it wasn’t some pressure of the moment - filling her mug as he’d done for his own. They weren’t drinking glasses in the traditional sense so the amount within them was a fair bit more than the rounded or curved material that was made for a tempered drink; though, he knew his own tolerance for drink was a general amount - hers had to be similar… right?
From the way she was drinking it like the aforementioned tea probably meant she had some knowledge of her limits; or at the least her senses would be aware enough to learn that…
“Sweet.. Like tea. Interesting… I can see how the scent of alcohol would burn for most drinks hrm...” It was a casual remark, a pause taken to take a drink for himself, trying to place the idea she’d offered on the pallet - like trying to piece together the unseen, yet familiar, and finding some gesture of what she was talking about as a ghost. “-Having senses like your own most likely makes certain things difficult, overwhelming at times?”
A pause, lips pursed in thought as that tail flicked in an idle shudder as the scent once more buried itself in her nostrils, he hummed a light note with that smile at the expression she made. “I can’t relate to scent as such, but-“ It wasn’t much of a secret after the day they’d had “-I’m ah, lightblinded, if that’s any consolation.”
Seeing as she wouldn’t be using the couch as she had made herself comfortable on the table (It was still a sight that brought that smile to his features) Silvaire made himself a bit more comfortable in turn by pulling a leg up to the cushions, with his other knee bent beneath it, coming to understand that his comfort… might be her comfort as well.
Cyra wasn’t the type to have the stiff rules of date regulated order, or defined perfection for stance and speech.
The home was quiet for a little while as the two drank the sweet-drink, a different type of silence than the hollow halls of the manor - it was closer, warmer, much more… casual. Even to him, as her guest.
Part of that warmth might have been the strength of the mystery drink he realized after a moment - as it wasn’t often that he felt heat at his fingers like that. Perhaps it was a fairly high alcohol content, well, that wouldn’t be too bad-
-At least he’d think so for a few moments longer before blinking at the way that tabled ornament was flushed far quicker than one would assume. Looking as content as could be with that once-harsh-smelling mug clasped in loose claws as if it were nothing more than a warm cup on a cold day. Her tail curling and unfurling with that same temperament as her fluffy ears wiggled in a slow tempo.
Cute.
No, stop that.
Shifting to sit up a bit more he cleared his throat with that lopsided smile; “I suppose you may need to ask that patient later for the recipe-” It was a jest at the way she seemed at the moment, but in the same breath he couldn’t really blame her.
The voidsent couldn’t tell if it was the probably high-content alcohol, or the nature of his strange stolen body, that made him feel this way, this tenure of soft enjoyment despite the hoard of questions and wealth of horrible thoughts of the day; the sense of peace and comfort.
Perhaps it was just her, and that warm light aether that he couldn’t seem to escape.

———
Opal and Cyra’s Background: The tear of the sun and moon, falls into earth and creates one human being. They call her “nova”. Nova was curious about everything she sees, touches, everything. She communicates the sun and the moon about what she learned, about things she sees, her feelings, everything!! Every village she goes to, people welcome her with open arms, along with that she learns about the world, people, cultural, magic, everything. However this price were the sun and the moon emerge their powers into one is quite, dangerous. While growing up, her powers gets stronger and not easy to control. One day while helping a few villagers on farming, all of the sudden her powers starts to go haywire and burn the stock. A few homes, injuring people. Nova was devastated and was crying apologetically for all the damage she’s done. Every villager was in rage and kicked her out, she grab her stuff and ran off in fright. Words spread fast and every villager home, are in fear or angered. Calling her witch. “No need a witch in our home, you are cursed.” The bright women lost trust in people, weep for this pain to go away.
Meanwhile the sun and moon felt guilt that her daughter are going some difficult times. Blaming at theirselves for creating a life that they wanna share in a world we’re other life forms could enjoy. “I learned so much about the humans while observing them from the distance. I wanted to be part of their world but I can’t. I am a planet. A moon. And the sun. We gave a piece of us to that world and everyone is afraid of it...” moon said. “The world is not ready for that but I don’t want our daughter to suffer. What if we split the powers into two?” The moon looks at the sun in surprise: “Two? Would that problem be worse for our daughter?” “No, It’s overwhelmed that she has to hold our powers but if she split into two. One will hold the sun and the other the moon.” The moons is flabbergasted by the sun response but has a problem. “If we proceed of doing that, would her memories fade? And one or the other won’t hear us?” While thinking out loud, they didn’t notice their daughter was hearing the conversation, “I’ll do it. I don’t want people to hate me or cause any danger to anyone. If this is the only way I’ll do it. Please mother. Please father. I want this nightmare to end.” In conclusion, the sun and moon agreed and asked nova to chant for the split to start: “
“Listen to my voice. We are the sun and moon. We want the world in peace,
till the end of time..We will balance the chains. With our powers of light and dark. Our fate rely on me,till the end of time.
Till the end of time.”
The chant worked, before splitting she calls her sun half Cyra Lily Stone. And her Moon half Opal Lucine Stone. “Remember our memories, don’t let it fade. Be peace and no harm. Wise but no evil. It will be a struggle but please be together as one....” she splits and two emerges. The moon speaks to her daughters: “Opal, your sister won’t hear me. And so as Cyra speaking to your mother. We don’t want you to suffer no more. Second chance of life we gave. Be wise but no evil.” Opal looks up to her father: “We won’t screw this up, we’ll have a better life and make you and mother proud!!” Cyra looks up and speaks: “What opal said, we’ll control it!!” After the talk opal and Cyra got up and walked away. Put their horrible memories passed them and moved on. Ended up finding a home to stay and re try to fit in. Opal was interested in English literature so she pursuit her career. While Cyra was in home school, Opal was teaching her everything what she’s has to know and importantly controlling each other’s powers. 7 years passed and opal received a masters degree on literature and started to looking for a job soon as possible. While Cyra was wondering around the village looking at stuff her eye catches. Opal met this man named Ashton Vargas outside her hometown while searching for a job, he recommended night raven college since according to him, his headmaster are hiring some staff who are either have a bachelors or a masters degree on any teaching majors he’s looking for. Opal accepted the offer and went to college to talk to the headmaster. She got accepted and had to move in. She told Cyra the news but Cyra wanted to come. Opal Lied to her saying it’s private college and won’t allow outsiders to visit. She left with her belongings but Cyra followed her. Cyra got distracted and when she looked back, her sister is gone. While trying to remain calm, something knocked her off . Leaving her unconscious, once waking up...her life is about to get more interesting and adventurous. As for opal: students to teach and headaches.

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth 🌟🌟🌟🌟(Spoiler free) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ I actually quite enjoyed this story. It was the first sci-fi book that I’ve read and I actually quite liked it. There were definitely problems with it but I don’t think it was THAT bad.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I really enjoyed the character development in the book as Cyra got stronger with having Akos influencing her. I just wish that there was more scenes with them developing their relationship as I do love them. (Plus Akos is left handed what’s not to love) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I feel like if anything let this book down it was the world building and description. The world building was decent you got a general view of the world and what was happening but it definitely could have been better. However it is the first book in a duology so that could have been built on in the second book. The descriptions however were pretty much next to nothing. In some scenes you got quite a good picture of the room to be fair but in other scenes it was difficult to correctly picture the scene. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I did like the plot in general and how people aren’t really in control of their lives because of their fates but the ending was a bit strange to me. I’m not going to spoil anything but does anyone else get that? That the ending was a little bit weird? That being said I am definitely reading the second book to see how Akos and Cyra’s story plays out. ⠀⠀

hmmm 📣👊 ^_^
MEGAPHONE - how loud are they? what do they speak like? got a voice claim? 👊 PUNCH - are they quick to violence? i tried to keep the voiceclaims to short clips they were. Very difficult but worth it i think. dallas & rory are exceptions because they're in a band . this took forever i take my voice claims very seriously ANSWERS UNDER THE CUT
DR. TETRA MEGAPHONE: voice claim i dont know the intersection between tom kenny and scientist characters who've lost everything is definitely there i have to pick this. its just the only option PUNCH: no it's much more fun to fuck with people verbally DALLAS MEGAPHONE: voice claim ( second voice in the video NOT the kid voice. starts 40 seconds in ) i love this band so much and the vocal performance in this song blew my fucking mind first time i heard it. peak emo music PUNCH: a little. he's a bit rowdy... (please tell me someone else sees the intersection between these two voices being in a band together. please i need to know im hitting SOME kind of niche here and im not just crazy) RORY MEGAPHONE: voice claim tevin campbell is so fucking talented and has such a distinct voice. this song is peak y2k to me.. i wish he had more performances so i could get a speaking quote maybe. PUNCH: no! he's got a good head on his shoulders. he won't hesitate to protect himself though. LEE MEGAPHONE: voice claim sorry i cant find a clip for this one. i cant think of any character with a monotone enough voice lee is so .. go lee give us nothing PUNCH: no but you can’t tell they’re getting angry. they don’t have any tells they just punch you full force in the face and walk off CYRA MEGAPHONE: voice claim shes so cool cyra is so cool this was such a hard choice for me. PUNCH: YES . WALKING HAZARD STAY 10+ FEET AWAY AT ALL TIMES LESS YOU BREAK SOMETHING UNWILLINGLY RYDER MEGAPHONE: voice claim AND.... one more. both are very similar . the like.. squeaky-ish voice? i dont know what to call it. that. that's important. PUNCH: yes, but he's all bark and no bite. he's just very very loud but probably wouldn't actually hit you. TIERNAN MEGAPHONE: voice claim it's sideshow bob. it's just sideshow bob. sorry. PUNCH: no hes just some guy
BASS MEGAPHONE: voice claim without the glitching. keep the echo and calm intonation though. PUNCH: no. definitely on the path of pacifism as they slowly regain their autonomy. KOMODO MEGAPHONE: voice claim wakko is one of my favorite voice performances of all time and i dont think anybody else could pull off their dastardly energy. all 3 of the warners have their "i'm four steps ahead of you and you don't even know it" energy but wakko definitely sounds the closest to what they sound like in my head. PUNCH: yeah. they're not aggressive they just have no level of patience and also revel in the mayhem they cause- Okay they're aggressive.

— {cyra taheri} !!
hey wassup hello!!! this is faye and i’m sooooooo v excited to be apart of this cute lil family!! ahhhhhh!!!! anyway its currently 3am and my laptop has been so slow and lagging a lot so apologies for my messy theme and even messier intro!!! i briefly managed to write this lil intro for my baby angel cy!!!! i hope ya vibe with her n if u do n u wanna plot then pls feel free to like this post or send me a msg!!!! :~) nw im gnna go to bed n lurk on mobile <3 <33
things you should know
cyra ‘cy’ comes from a very rich and elite family
despite having things handed to her on a silver platter, she had a hard time growing up
she didn’t have many friends or any social life rly outside of school
she was restricted from many things including the things she loved!! such as art and sports since she was always making a mess or getting dirty
she’s been constantly told that she wasn’t “feminine” enough and her actions aren’t very ladylike
after graduating high school she thought uni would be her way out, regardless of the pretentious university she’d applied to, at least she’d be away from home—but no!! as always, her parents disregarded whatever she had to say and didn’t think her education was important bc her duties as an elite lil lady haven’t finished yet!!!
she was set to have an arranged marriage to this guy she’d never met cause it would b good 4 family business!!!
n thats when she was like nuh uh fuck that and decided to runaway to vancouver where she decided to study
anyway she did some lil hannah montana magic 2 herself n decided 2 go from cyra taheri to just cy ((so they don’t find her u kno??? that miley stewart ish))
a bit about her personality
she doesn’t it like it when people pity her or do things for her she’s very independent and self-reliant.
she’s also very guarded and closed off, but at the same time really friendly and approachable.
she’s kinda confusing?? one day she’s the life of the party and everyone’s favorite social butterfly but the next day she could be as cold as ice in the comfort of her own solitude, very unpredictable!!
she just has a lot of trust-issues n finds it hard 2 completely open up to anyone
she’s just been hurt a lot bc she was the sweetest n most naive lil angel but look where that got her!!!! so she’s just trying 2 avoid looking weak nd have anyone use her ((just tryna protect herself even if she might b a bit harsh sometimes!!!)
she’s can be v stubborn n hot tempered, and an all over emotional mess!!
but overall her heart is in the right place, the main reason she didn’t want to go through with the arranged marriage is because shes a hopeless romantic, all her life she’s been deprived of emotional intimacy whether it was romantic or platonic, she just wants to feel real, important, loved and cared about bc beneath the surface she has the softest and biggest heart and can be overly selfless and generous once she lets u in!!!
ugh this is really shit and i apologize but u guys have no idea how to difficult it is to type when ur laptop is freezing every 10 seconds jtgjtgkt i promise i’ll write something more eloquent and informative later!!!!!!

to stay or to leave
I haven’t felt this way for a long time. I didn’t think I would think of leaving ever again. Right now, at this moment, I want to be anywhere else but here in my country. My long, hot shower didn’t make me feel a tad bit better at all. In times like this, it’s harder to love the PH. But when something’s harder to love, it needs to be love the most. It’s so depressing to think of everything that’s been happening lately. The incompetence of people sitting in seats of power is just appalling. Pre-UP the original plan was to study college in the PH, then leave. Post-UP, I no longer wanted to leave. I wanted to live here, establish a career here, live a happy life here, die here. Recently, I’ve been entertaining thoughts of leaving again. I’ve only ever told Cyra (as one of my moral compasses in life). Side note: she also told me I was part of a lot of major decisions in her life since we became friends. Anyway, just thought I should write this down while it’s still raw. I was thinking about my life in the Middle East and how everything was just lighter and more comfortable there. I’m just thinking of how stressful and heavy life is here. It’s so tiresome and kind of feels like burdening when you’re not rich. I was just thinking of dreaming of living a comfortable life where I am able to afford the things I need and the things I want. It feels like living a comfortable life here is so difficult. I’ve been watching a lot of youtube videos lately and I admire the life my favorite med vlogger has in New York. I guess I’m just considering. After a lot of things not going my way, I guess I’m more flexible with my plans now. I’m more open again to not constricting myself with my career goals and life plans since it seems not planning works better for me. I’m not relying on a higher power, if that’s what you’re thinking. I guess, I’ll just try to go where the winds (or waves) take me and be open to a lot of opportunities. Okay, I don’t want to do this anymore. Bottomline, I’m considering leaving again. As much as I love my country, I feel helpless. I feel I can’t do anything to fix the mess brought by the boomers. Yup, called it. Not sorry.

Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth
In a world with a solar system filled with planets, the Assembly seen as the one deciding force among them all, there exists one with violence and a vicious ruler. In this galaxy, some are favored by fate and others are not. Some will discover their future, set in stone, at a young age. Everyone in this new world will develop a currentgift as they age, a unique ability for each person that is established to affect the future. As it is seen as a normal and blessed thing, most people benefit from their currentgifts. However, Akos and Cyra do not. On the same planet, Akos and Cyra live in opposing societies, countries that have been fighting for what seems like forever. Their specific gifts end up making them weak and exposed to those that wish to hurt them. Through a twist of fate, Akos and Cyra are pushed together in a situation that never seemed possible in this world. Akos, with a deep love for his family, he hails from the peaceful nation of Thuvhe. Cyra, with a unsettling distaste for her living family, she hails from the violent nation of Shotet. Akos’ currentgift keeps him safe, but all he’s ever thought about since him and his brother have been captured by the Shotet’s is how he can escape safely without his brother getting injured. Cyra’s currentgift brings her an insurmountable pain that her brother manipulates to his liking, but what he doesn’t know is she is smarter than he knows and she is done being his weapon. Will Akos and Cyra be able to work together to save their fates and establish peace on their planet? Or will they end up destroying one another?
Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth is a story in a new world that centers around two teenagers coming together against all odds to save their world. In Carve The Mark, Veronica Roth pulls at many elements in Divergent. She describes things that seem unimportant to the story to help deepen the reader’s knowledge. By describing the broken chair in the corner or the smell of the cooking herbs, Roth takes the reader more in depth into the story. One could imagine that doing this would actually take from the story instead of adding to it, since it doesn’t directly affect the character’s and their future in the pages. However, by detailing the surroundings for the reader, they are given a better idea of what is around the character at any given point and it allows their imagination to run more free into creating vivid images of the world that they have just entered into. Also as she did in Divergent, but more strongly, Roth allows the reader to slowly learn about this new world. A key thing in writing when creating a totally new environment is to inform the reader details of this new world so they can better immerse themselves in it and better understand it. However, instead of just laying down the facts for the reader, Roth chooses to slowly tell them more and more details. It makes the reader feel a lot more apart of the story, as if they just walked in on the journey that is about to unfold in the coming pages. When authors choose to just simply write out the facts easily for the reader to understand, the reader feels more like an intrusion, more like the story is only happening for them, unnaturally. When Roth slides in information about the new world she is making sure the reader knows that with or without them, this epic adventure was going to happen no matter what. This helps the reader feel more involved in the story and allows them to consciously pick up on the simple sentences that describe how the government system works or how the current connects everything.
Carve The Mark is told from two point of views, Akos and Cyra, and through that artistic decision, Roth is given more power over establishing the character for the reader. The reader is able to see how the character’s see the world around them and it allows them to better judge the character from the inside, instead of just from the point of view of the main character. Roth also has the two characters describe the same things. This allows the reader to see how they differ in personality. By comparing how Akos describes the broken chair to how Cyra describes it the reader can much more easily understand their personalities with their differences and their similarities. Interestingly enough, as the book unfolds and Akos’ and Cyra’s relationship strengthens, the reader can see their personalities slowly melding together. Akos ends up describing the broken chair with elements that Cyra would only notice. Cyra ends up describing the chair with elements and insights that only Akos would notice. By telling the story from two point of views, Roth allows the reader to take a better stance on each character and by doing so the reader gains a little bit of the character in themselves, since they better understand each one.
Unlike the Divergent trilogy, specifically Allegiant, Roth takes a very key and important thing into account when writing from the two point of views. In Allegiant, Roth wrote from the point of views of the two main characters, Tris and Four. Each chapter from their separate perspectives was told from the first person point of view. In contrast, in Carve The Mark, Roth writes Cyra’s point of view chapters in first person and Akos’ in third person. This style change for Roth is a major one and gave off a different effect, although it was minimal. This allowed the reader to know who the main characters were, as they were each significant enough to be written from the point of view of, however it also established who the story is completely and utterly surrounding. Cyra is the one who is the tyrannical Shotet ruler’s sister. She is the one with the painful gift and she is the one who ends up pulling Akos into her world. She will be the one to help Akos learn more about himself and she will also be the one to help him with the one thing he desires most. Writing from both viewpoints gives each of the characters equal importance, but through a careful and slight artistic decision on Roth’s side, the reader is given a better understanding of who the story is truly and entirely about.
Carve The Mark is a creative storyline brought to life through Veronica Roth’s words. Because this is a new world, the reader needs to be introduced to the characters that will be important and establish the story. Roth introduced about six or seven characters in the first chapter which became slightly overwhelming for the reader. Being thrust into a new world is hard enough to try to put all the pieces together and understand it better, but it also became even more difficult to keep all the characters in check. For instance, one might forget that Akos is the youngest son of the Kereseth family because they were introduced to all of the children almost immediately at the beginning of the chapter. Understandably, Roth wanted to introduce the characters quickly so that the reader could get a better understanding and a vaster knowledge of the story. However, by introducing so much so quickly, the reader could become a little overwhelmed, having to look back to remember what each character’s significance was. In addition, because this was a new and unknown world, the characters had unique names. This was helpful enough, allowing the reader to better remember their names because they were different than the ones common in our own world. However, it also made the reading process more complicated. It made it more difficult to keep everything in line since the reader was being introduced to a new world, new characters and new names that were unknown and new to them as well. Although the first chapter was a little confusing, that was one of the only faults that really stuck out in the entire book.
Carve The Mark is an adventure of two teens whose whole world rests on their shoulders. Roth pulls at defining styles from Divergent like how she describes things, the concept of writing from two point of views, and how she slowly lets the reader sink into the world she has created. However, she also adds some artistic decisions in that are new and make the story feel fresh and never ending. Veronica Roth’s writing left no loopholes unless it was by her specific doing. Her story creating ability is incredible and her imagination is never ending and more vast than one could imagine. The worlds that her mind creates is something that most people can not do, it is unique and amazing. It is her currentgift. It is the unique power she developed as she aged and it will continue to expand and become better. One can only wait for the next amazing and vast world she will create.

This books was so, SO difficult for me to review. I feel like because this book was written by Veronica Roth, whose writing I have so admired, I’m more critical than I am of other writer’s books, which isn’t exactly fair.
That said, I LIKED this book. I did not LOVE this book. I really, REALLY wanted to love it, but it just fell a little short for me in a few areas.
That said, I truly think Veronica Roth is an amazing author and person, and she has layered some incredibly important themes in this book.
Wine Pairing
Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
What better wine to pair with Veronica Roth’s HIGHLY anticipated new novel than this Starry Night Zinfandel. Fantasy meets science fiction in this novel, very much like the Van Gogh painting that inspired this gorgeous bottle of wine.

The Nitty Gritty:
Title: Carve the Mark
Author: Veronica Roth
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Pub Date: January 17, 2017
Pages: 468
GoodReads Description:
On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.
Fans of Star Wars and Divergent will revel in internationally bestselling author Veronica Roth’s stunning new science-fiction fantasy series.
My Review
So, as usual, I want to start with my positive thoughts on this book. And there truly were a lot of positives here. I just didn’t LOVE it as much as I did the Divergent series.
One incredibly important theme in this novel was the potential horrors of colonialism and war, and how those things affect the people and culture of any nation that is under the threat of being conquered. The people of Shotet are *spoiler* an excellent example of both sides of this, since they have both been attacked by other nations and have become a warrior nation themselves in result. They’ve turned into a nation which the people of Thuve, as well as the inhabitants of other planets in their solar system, must fear.
I also found Cyra and Ryzek to be FASCINATING characters. The pain that Cyra is constantly in demonstrates how incredibly strong she is. But what makes her truly interesting is that her “gift” is driven by something deep within her. Is it that she wants to keep people at arms distance? Is it that she feels like she deserves the pain because of the pain her family has inflicted on others in the past? I’m not quite certain yet, but I do think it’s fascinating to think about, and I can’t wait to uncover even more about her character in the next book.
Like I said, I also found Ryzek to be captivating. His character was so clearly developed by his father’s abuse and his less than optimistic fate. I love that while he’s so entirely HORRIBLE, you can still see how much he despises being what he is and how hard it really is for him.
The biggest thing I struggled with in this book was that oftentimes it just felt a little too easy. I felt like Cyra and Akos overcame their animosity towards one another too easily. There just wasn’t enough tension there to really pull me into their romance.
I also thought several of the BIG action scenes felt a little rushed. I would have liked to have seen them drawn out a bit more. I want those types of scenes to have me on the edge of my seat, to make me feel anxious, and like I don’t know what is going to happen next. Unfortunately, in this story I felt like those scenes were a bit rushed and too easy for the characters to get through.
This isn’t a criticism exactly, more of an observation, but there were a lot of themes in Carve the Mark that were also explored in the Divergent series. For example: the abusive father, the mother that abandons her child for selfish reasons disguised as concern for the greater good, groups of people divided by their values, and older brothers that are just the WORST.
I did find the values that the various nations founded their cultures on were a bit strange. In Divergent we had intelligence, bravery, kindness, selflessness, and honesty. In Carve the Mark we have hushflowers, the current, mystery, and comfort. From what Veronica said at her signing last night, I think we’ll find out more about this topic in the next book, but at this point, those values seem a little odd.
Like I said at the beginning of this review I liked this book, but I just didn’t feel like it was as great as Veronica’s other books. I can’t help but compare this to Veronica’s other books, which I don’t feel is exactly fair to this book, but when you love an author’s work so much, it’s impossible to go into their next book without having certain expectations.
I am intrigued by this world, and I would really like to see Veronica develop it a lot more in the next book. Also, I want more Ryzek. I found him to be the most interesting character in the book hands down!
Cover Rating
The cover of this book is STUNNING. It’s simple, yet gorgeous. I love the contrast in colors and the sheen to the paper. Also, we noticed last night at the signing that the colors were slightly different in each of our books. The color varying from a brighter blue to a deeper purple, which is just REALLY cool.
Swoon Worthiness
Unfortunately, I did not love Akos in this book. I’m hoping to see more complexity in his character in the next book, but I just felt a little…MEH toward him in this book. Maybe it’s because he’s just too good, which probably says more about me than his character honestly. But I really, REALLY would have liked to have seen more tension between him and Cyra. As it was, their romance just didn’t grip me like Tris and Four’s did. Sorry! I cannot help but compare these books. I just can’t!

Does the academy have clubs or any extracurricular activities? If so what kind and are the ROs part of any of them?
Aurelian Academy does, yes! A lot of them I probably won’t truly offer as a feature— barring potential small side stories— as I feel they’d make the story a bit more convoluted.
For a couple of them:
Aquatics — As the name suggests, this club mainly deals with water and aquatic life. You’d expect to spend time out on the lake on campus, within the underwater school (for the aquatic species) learning about various animals/plants, and even interacting with a couple of them!
Equestrian — A club for the ones that enjoy horseback riding, but with an added twist! As you’ll meet a variety of species— from a Hippogriff to a Carnivyr (carnivorous horse). You’d also go on rides across the various trails that Aurelian, and Avalon, has to offer.
Student Council — Pretty self explanatory… The student council deals with a variety of topics that may influence student life within Aurelian; planning dances, various outings within Avalon, guest speakers, and more! All of it being overseen by the Headmistress herself.
(Magical) Dueling — A difficult club to get into, as it’s mainly for students that have an affinity for the magical arts (like wizards/witches). However, anyone, and everyone, is welcome to watch, and cheer on, the duelists during skirmishes or actual tournaments.
Media — For avid film/television fans that wish to discuss various movies/shows and debunk popular theories about them. Lots of movie nights and binge watching various shows— followed by (sometimes) heated discussions about what has been consumed.
I don’t think any of the ROs are part of any clubs, no… At least not that I have planned. People are trying to get both Scarlett and Cyrus/Cyra to join student council though. 😂

If each RO could romance another RO, who would each mesh best with?
Good question! I’ll just go with what I think off the top of my head, but it could change as I continue to learn more and more about the characters!
Koda: I think Koda would mesh with Reginald the best. I think he’d find his want to learn and grow endearing, and I think Koda would be enamored by someone wishing to teach him various things as well and wanting to learn from him too.
Scarlett: Hmm… Scarlett is a bit difficult to decide for… I don’t know if she’d honestly mesh with any of the ROs in that sense, but I can see her getting farther with Cyra. Partially due to the fact that Cyra understands the depth of duty that’s expected from them both.
Cyrus/Cyra: I think they’d say Caden— mainly due to the fact that Caden doesn’t try to insist their presence upon anyone and lets things happen as they’re supposed to. Only interfering when they absolutely have to. It’s a facet that they’d appreciate greatly.
Quinn: I just find it funny imagining the athletically inclined wolf trying to get the couch potato demon to go on a hike. So, I’ll say Blake because of that imagery alone.
Caden: Like with Scarlett, I don’t think they’d mesh with anyone truly. For entirely different reasons— while Scarlett just doesn’t care enough to do so, Caden would be too timid to. If it’s anyone, I think they’d at least try with R.
Sloane: Either Koda or Scarlett. Koda because of his gentle disposition, which is something that Sloane needs in spades. Or Scarlett because of the fact that she’ll call Sloane out on her shit and won’t back down.
Blake: Blake would try to mesh with them all to be honest. They’re a social butterfly and will try to attach themself to anyone that’ll have them. Will it be something serious? Only time would tell.
Reginald/Regina: I think R would be too overwhelmed to even try, but I think someone soft spoken like Caden, or a gentle protective nature like Quinn, would be something they’re more drawn towards. Even if some of the ROs are straight out of anyone’s fantasies when it comes to the supernatural world.

Voidtouched-blue--[prior]
One moment, sorry." She turned and began rolling up her sleeves to put the campsite back into the natural order they had found it in. Only, everything had already been done. She blinked, confused at first as to when that happened. At least while she had been awake, she didn't recall returning everything to its place. I didn't think he'd pay attention to that. Full of surprises, aren't we? The thought brought a small smile to curl at her lips. "Well my job's already been done for me it seems." She chuckled. "I'm not particularly hungry, unless you'd like something? All that's left is to pack myself into the carriage and we can be on our way." Cyra scratched the back of her ear, warranting a few slaps to the back of her hand as the ear flicked at her tickling fingers.
As he’d come to expect, the waking process of the young feline was filled with ample shakes of stretched muscles as sharp claws and paws wiggled free of the clouds of sleep; her soon-to-be-guest straightening from his lean to give her a bit of room as she began to collect her items - a paired frown on their lips as nails tapped against those fresh horns.
But considering she didn’t shudder with a deep convulsion of agony, he took that as a sign that they’d begun to heal to a manageable pain, at least he hoped.
With nothing to do Silvaire just watched in polite silence as he ever did as she wandered to get herself ready for the day, his brows furrowing for a second as she rolled up her sleeves to do something- before his face softened as that scar of hers lowered with the same expression instead at the sight of his work cleaning.
Her joking remark paired with that genuine smile brought a tempered heat to his skin as that ever present pride relished in the moment of idle praise of a job well done, though he found himself stalling for half a second at the question of food - knowing he’d not ‘eaten’ around her thus far… but she seemed more than eager to get on the road.
Secrets to unravel after all.
“I’m alright, I had, something. Earlier I mean.” Why was it suddenly more difficult to lie around her?
That is what honesty does.
A single taste and it ruins the pallet.
“To the road then, it shouldn’t be too much longer from the maps you’ve given.” It was with a gentle wave of a gloved hand the lord offered her once more to choose her seat, and once again found her in that spot of familiar comfort, the cushions no longer full of novels as they had been - put away for ease of unpacking and sorting later - so it was just the two of them within the cabin for the next few handfuls of hours.
This time, Silvaire didn’t feel that apprehension to the idea.
But the crawling feeling to the back of his neck had yet to leave, so his focus was all the same - tainted in that unknowing sensation. Perhaps it was just the Elementals themselves disagreeing with his presence, it wouldn’t be the first time they’d found the voidsent as some type of burden to their woods.
Golden eyes drifted to his companion as the light of the forest speckled across that tender blue in dappled shadows, his chin resting in his palm as he sat with crossed legs facing that latticed window, listening to the way she continued the idle work she was so prone to doing. Was there a time he’d seen her sit and rest? No, beyond being quite literally unable to move was the only time she’d not attempted to push herself to this obsession.
As ever, their time was quiet with only the idle sounds of pages turned, or the word of the wood ghosting across the path their carriage took, on occasion the kwehing chirps of happy chocobos flitted through the air in time with the birdsong that surrounded them. It was relatively peaceful, far different than the sounds of sand and wind that took over most of Thanalan. Almost a bit too noisy in his opinion - but he’d also been fond of the silence.
Small conversation was made as the hours passed, nothing drastic to answer either traveler’s innermost questions, but simple remarks of the scales of trees or the comments of differing experiences. She spoke of the forest as a home, and he wished to learn how to respect it… If he was to be her guest after all.
To learn the habits of all the paths he’d seen on her map, of all the places she knew in the more less traveled areas of the Twelveswood, of what discoveries she’d made during them - those stars always seemed to brighten when his queries of interest let her speak without fear of judgment due to her more untraditional topic-
In a single second, a flurry of events took place;
A punctuated BANG cut off any structure of thought that the man held - a sharp and unnatural pain shredding through his aetherial center as the Contract of his Driver was pulled taught as a wire and SNAPPED in that same instant; the body of that husk falling off the seat to drop past them, the gore of his head blown through by a distant long rifle-
The birds came next in panic, squawking panic and feathers as the unreined speed jostled the two inside, unchecked, uncontrolled, blinded animals running from the scent of bloodshed - two more violent shots were heard and the sounds stopped, but the velocity had been set; and it was only due to the height and reach that Silvaire had to brace himself that buried instincts kicked in to pull the near floating feline to him as the whole of the vehcile tipped and rolled head over lead, crashing into the unrelenting trunks of those vibrant trees.
Even if he wasn’t human; Silvaire could still feel the solid contact the walls made as he held her close, it wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t all of her, but it was more controlled than the space would have treated her otherwise in the crash.
Soon, the moment of unchecked confusion passed, and a new one began.
He could feel her warmth on his chest as he lay against the wall that had now become the floor - the light from the window above stinging his skin as he lay, yet to move. With closed eyes his understanding of the world was far more than the reliance on such weak sight. It was here - even as he felt her move from his touch - that he listened to the world outside. Forgetting of the cabin, neglecting himself in that moment;
The aether of new blood was easy to detect.
It was the amount, and the type of weak magical sensation, that caught his breath.
Just from the few moments of deduction, it was the familiar formation and feeling of those Garlean soldiers that approached. Weapons trained, as if a threat loomed, though he could not see them, he could feel the weight that they brought in shrouds of metal. The feeling of the Elementals just as clear to him in that moment as one of the garrison of a dozen or more stepped forward to speak;
“Ul’dahn, you can either run, or die, for the Miqo’te in the carriage. You have five seconds to respond before we open fire.”
An unspoken wrath rose in his chest as his eyes slowly opened, staring at the light above - the clouds that drifted to shade the open clearing they’d fallen into stinging his eyes. His fingers shook for a moment as he rolled onto his side to feel the cool silk of his hair drift against his cheek. The unintentional snap of the death of a Contract hurt more than any of the physical bruises that he could feel starting to fade - by Altana above, being mortal was horrendous, making each moment his dark aether spun to fix the damage feel all the longer.
There was a pause as he looked to the terrified expression on her face as he lay on his side, wincing as his nerves forced the pain away to heal - without a doubt in his mind her terrors had begun anew, tormented by the world within.
…And through the silence that blanketed them he spoke with a half-functional mumble; not even aware he’d spoken.
“…It’ll be alright, I promise.”
