I think we saw atleast one cultural festival in the manga but I feel it was a deeplywasted opportunity that there was no maid cafe because the worldneeds Scepter 4 maid cafe. So say the Blue Club has to come up withsomething for the next festival, Principal Ichigen has stated thatwhichever club has the most popular booth will get a larger budgetfor the rest of the year. Naturally Munakata has many ideas as to howthe Blue Club will prevail over the others but after muchdeliberation there is truly only one choice: the Blue Club will behosting a maid cafe, wherein all the members will dress in maidoutfits and serve coffee and pastries to guests. Enomoto is placed incharge of maid cafe research as it is a passion of his, Kamo will behandling the food, and Fushimi will be trying to fake his own deathto get out of it (Munakata isn’t fooled, however, he’s well awarethat Fushimi is the Blue Club’s secret ace in the hole and there’s noway he intends to have a cafe that does not involve Fushimi-kun in amaid outfit).

So come the day ofthe festival the entire student council is decked out in their maiduniforms and greeting customers. Akiyama is probably very popularbecause he’s sweet and kind and also slightly embarrassed about theentire thing, whenever anyone compliments him he blushes a little andhe’s basically getting moe points all over the place. He’s partneredwith Benzai, who also looks splendid in a maid costume with hislovely hair, Benzai is fully taking advantage of Akiyama’s popularityin order to get them more tips and thus more money for the Blue Club(I’m just imagining Benzai as being in charge of the money and hekeeps doing things like telling Akiyama to pose in certain ways,Akiyama will like pull his skirt down a little or hold his tray upshyly over his face and ask if it’s all right while the patrons gowild because he’s adorable). Doumyouji is the only one wearing shortsunder his skirt and he’s the energetic maid, he’s best at runningorders from place to place, working closely with stoic elegant maidand chef Kamo. Enomoto is also very skilled at being a maid, he hasgotten all their outfits perfectly tailored for maximum popularityand is highly trained in how exactly a proper Akihabara-style maidshould act. Fuse is a bit embarrassed but trying to keep up whileGotou is the chillest maid known to man. Hidaka keeps looking atDoumyouji and wondering if he should have worn shorts under his skirttoo, everyone keeps commenting that he’s awfully tall for a maid.

Meanwhile theperson in charge of greeting everyone at the door is none other thanstar attraction Fushimi, who of course looks adorable in his maidcostume even though he’s hiding a million knives under the skirt. Hekeeps trying to slip away and being dragged back by Munakata, thesparkliest of all maids and wearing the most elaborate costume.Munakata is very committed to doing maid cosplay the Proper Way andwould like Fushimi-kun to cooperate with him as much as possible. Ofcourse the Red Club has to show up at some point, Yata couldn’tresist stopping by when he heard Fushimi was standing in front of theBlue’s clubroom while in a maid costume. Yata starts teasing Fushimiabout what a lovely maid he makes but he keeps noticing how shortFushimi’s skirt is and is that a hint of garterbelt and there may bea slight flush forming on Yata’s cheeks. Fushimi notices and is alloh, I see the virgin can’t handle this kind of cafe. Yata insiststhat he’s not blushing at the sight of stupid Saruhiko in a skirt,Fushimi’s like really as he starts to pull up his skirt a bit. Yataimmediately freaks out, telling him to pull it down, Fushimi clickshis tongue and pulls out a knife like what did you think I was goingfor, virgin. Munakata then steps in to stop the fight and suggeststhat Fushimi-kun take over serving Yata-kun at the cafe, Fushimiflatly refuses while Yata stutters out his own disagreement, goingred again at the thought of Fushimi the demure grumpy maid (and thensome random student is like ‘Fushimi-san can serve me’ and Yata’simmediately on the defensive, like okay no one even gets to lookat Saruhiko like this except me got it).

So right, imagine back when they were in High School, there was a School Fair, and the girls in their class wanted Fushimi to dress up as a maid for the maid cafe, but they couldn’t manage to get him to do it, so they end up roping poor, weak-to-girls, Yata instead. Misaki makes… a surprisingly cute maid. Like, he tries his best, is a bit clumsy but well meaning, and before anyone knows it, there’s suddenly merch of Misaki wearing cat ears and serving their guests. Fushimi buys that merch because, uh, well. It’s creepy if anyone else had it, right? Right?

Yeah so a few years later, the betrayal has happened, but then so does the reconciliation, and when they start moving in together again… Misaki finds those old pictures of himself in a maid costume. Um, Saru, explain?

It was just for...research purposes, yeah, research, that's it (maybe Fushimi should just go ahead and buy Yata a new maid costume to start their new life together...). Imagine when they're in middle school and there's like the yearly culture fair, which Fushimi of course has no interest in. I could see Yata being sorta excited about it as a concept but then at the same time if Saruhiko's not interested than Yata isn't all that interested either, like clearly it's no fun if Saruhiko's not enjoying it with him. The class votes on what kind of booth they should run and the girls end up getting their way in voting for a 'reverse maid cafe,' where the guys will dress as maids and the girls as butlers. There are only so many maid costumes though so they have to like pick which boys should wear them and imagine Fushimi wins the vote by a wide margin. Yata isn't sure if he should congratulate Fushimi on this or not, Fushimi just clicks his tongue and walks out though and the girls sigh like of course he wouldn't agree. Yata feels bad and kinda stutters out an apology on Saruhiko's behalf, which gives the girls a great idea for who their top maid should be.

The day of the culture festival comes and maybe Yata was counting on Fushimi not showing up to school that day, instead he ends up mortified when Fushimi walks into class to find Yata greeting him in a high-pitched voice while wearing a maid costume, neck bell and cat ears. It takes Yata a moment to realize that it's Fushimi who just walked in and it takes Fushimi a moment to realize that it's Yata in front of him in a maid costume. Yata gives this sudden high-pitched yell as Fushimi just collapses into laughter, Yata's like shut up I got roped into this because you wouldn't do it. Fushimi teases him about being such a cute maid and Yata gets all pissed about it, like I'm not cute and anyway I have shorts on under this too you know. Fushimi probably spends the whole day at the cafe constantly calling for 'maid Misaki' to serve him and has a great time, until a few days later when he learns that he wasn't the only one who found maid Misaki appealing and there's a bunch of cute pictures circling around. Fushimi feels this spike of irritation that he can't explain and proceeds to use his gigantic allowance to buy each and every one of them.

Jump to post-ROK, they're moving in together and Yata's moving some boxes of Fushimi's stuff when he opens one box and all these pictures of himself as a maid come pouring out. Imagine too going along with that one chibi comic where Fushimi said he didn't have any pictures of Yata and Yata always believed that, so it's like Fushimi had no pictures of their middle school days...except this whole pile of 'Yata in a maid costume' pictures. Fushimi comes walking in as Yata's looking at them and asks what Yata's finding so interesting, Yata holds up a picture of himself in a maid costume and he's like '...Do I wanna know why you have a bunch of pictures of me in a maid costume?'. Fushimi's momentarily caught out but then he gives this languid shrug and a smirk as he says he couldn't help it that Misaki was such a cute maid, maybe Fushimi should buy him a dress and Yata can serve him again (Yata throws a pillow at him and says Fushimi's wearing the dress this time okay it's only fair).
