the way cesare always has like five layers to justify his actions is so fascinating to me. take him killing juan for example, there's the surface level reason that he created himself (juan being an embarrassment to the family at forli), there's the layer that is lucrezia's happiness was threatened by juan, then there's the one where he's trying to protect her innocence and her soul from committing the act herself, and then the real reasons; he wants to gain power by taking on the role of a soldier and gain his father's trust/love, but he can't do that with juan still living and breathing because no matter how much juan disappoints their father, rodrigo continues to bestow favors upon him and so cesare never feels his father's love. idk he's just the most fascinating male character to ever exist I think and I will love him until I die.
#text#the borgias#cesare borgia#mel talks#and the craziest part is rodrigo actually had bigger things in mind for ces than just being a soldier#but cesare didn't know that and therefore had no idea he had his father's trust and love all along#or at least up until he killed juan anyway and then it vanished.....#ooooh fascinating indeed
