Mighty Sports: 4 Fundamentals to Win Over Dubai Giants
Tumblr media
The time for the much-awaited tourney has come for Caesar Wongchuking backed- Mighty Sports in Dubai. Before flying to Dubai, the PH representative has beefed up for the big players. To make the tournament more exciting, let’s take a look at the nitty-gritty of how the PH representative can win the game this year.
Good defense
Coach Charles Tiu highlighted defense as one of the most important things that Mighty Sports should focus on since the line up doesn’t have a solid one to protect the board from ball handlers. The team should put more focus on communicating and being good at defensive end. Coach Charles believes that applying pressure on their ball handlers will be helpful for defense, as it will delay the opposing team’s offense and force turnovers.
Set forth with an outside shots
PH team has former ABL Finals MVP Jason Brickman, UAAP Mythical Five member Juan Gomez De Llano and three-time PBA champion import Justin Brownlee for going in and breaking down opposing team’s defense; while Fil-Am Roosevelt Adams and former Fighting Maroon Jett Manuel can take advantage of their open looks and do their thing.
Play in transition
Mighty Sports should control the defensive rebounds and play in transition as they can have trouble in executing in the half court, considering the limited preparation time and lack of shooters.
Import Randolph Morris, UAAP standouts Papi Sarr, Leonard Santillan, and Troy Rike will have to bring their focus on the glass, while Brickman, De Llano, Brownlee, and even two-time NBA champion Lamar Odom will capitalize on their fastbreak opportunities so that they can score easy baskets.
Team chemistry
Considering their difference: nationality, position, techniques, the way of playing basketball, the importance of team chemistry should go around their passion for basketball and their confidence to win the game. Each athlete has one goal when playing inside a basketball gymnasium, that is to play hard and win the game.

Brownlee To Team Up with Odom and Mighty Sports for Dubai
When it rains, it pours. The Caesar Wongchuking backed-Mighty Sports is pouring with college stars, ex-pro and other imports including ex-NBA superstar Lamar Odom and Ginebra resident Justin Brownlee for the upcoming Dubai International Tournament in February 2019.
Mighty Sports will mark their second time in the premier Middle East event, having played there two years ago with Brownlee as one of its imports. Coach Charles Tiu has also expressed his excitement for having Brownlee again with the team:
Tumblr media
Sports director Caesar Wongchuking with team coach Charles Tiu are still on the hunt for other NBA veterans to boost their title campaign. Tiu also shared that he is also eyeing for the 6-foot-11 center Randolph Morris, Beijing Ducks. UP standout Juan Gomez de Liano, La Salle’s Santi Santillan, Gab Banal and former PBA star Joseph Yeo are some of the names seen to gear up with Odom for Dubai.
“It’s a great honor to have such a great player to be part of our team representing the Philippines. My thanks to coach Charles Tiu and payer agent Sheryl Reyes,” said Wongchuking. “We hope to add star power to the team because we have lots of fans in Dubai,” added Wongchuking.

What to know about the Adidas 7v7 National Championship’s best recruits
Tumblr media
South Florida stars dominated in Los Angeles, but here are news and notes for colleges in each power conference.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Thirty-two teams gathered over the weekend for one of the most talented 7v7 tournaments. South Florida Express went a perfect 10-0 and won almost all of its games in blowout fashion.
Here, I’ll present the 2019 standouts, and on Wednesday, will follow up with the underclassmen.
Express featured two of the nation’s truly elite receivers in Miami (FLa.) South Dade’s Frank Ladson, and Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna’s John Dunmore. At 6’5 and 6’3, respectively, with the level of athleticism you’d expect, they presented a huge problem for defenses, especially when considering all of the shorter, lightning-quick slot receivers Express has. Someone was going to be wide open on almost every play, even against elite competition.
Ladson is just scratching the surface of his potential. The basketball player has blazing deep speed, and will flash the ability to play the finer points of the position. You can see the potential to be an absolute superstar. Once he fills out and gets more reps, he’s going to be a problem. He also claims a 3.7 GPA.
Ladson identified three coaches with whom he’s tightest: Clemson’s Jeff Scott, Miami’s Ron Dugans, and Florida State’s Telly Lockette. He is also talking to Alabama’s Joe Pannunzio. With a busy track and spring football schedule, Ladson doesn’t have many visits locked in, but does plan to get back to Clemson for its spring game. At this point, I’d say Clemson is the favorite, though he wouldn’t say it.
For Dunmore, nothing has changed since we spoke in March. He’s still calling Florida State his “dream school,” still has great relationships with FSU WR coach David Kelly and Penn State WR coach Ja’Juan Seider, is still taking his official visit to Michigan this coming weekend, and doesn’t want to commit any time soon. Dunmore has some of the best hands in the country.
Kenny McIntosh, the little brother of Miami defensive tackle R.J. McIntosh, is listed as a running back, but he showed off some incredible catches. The Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) University School standout is expected to go to Miami.
Tumblr media
Kenny McIntosh
Another name to watch was Jaylin Young, who has an interesting background and has been lightly recruited. He didn’t play his sophomore year at Hallandale (Fla.) due to academics, but is up to a 2.7 and has transferred to Miami Central. Young somehow didn’t get tired during the 10-hour tournament, still blowing by defenders. I am expecting his recruitment to take off.
QB Nick Scalzo, of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons also had a strong tournament. He was better at knowing where to go with the football, and getting it there quickly, than I had seen in previous tournaments. Kentucky is a top contender.
Every starter on the Express defense has major college offers, except for one. I’ve been a big fan of Jarvis Brownlee Jr. since Express’ tryouts in January.

— SB Nation Recruiting (@SBNRecruiting) January 13, 2018
And he has continued to impress. Brownlee has a great temperament for a defensive back, he’s athletic, and he’s super competitive. He’s just made play after play, and his high school film is good, too. The Opa Locka (Fla.) Carol City star recently picked up Syracuse, and he told me that he thinks an offer from NC State could be on its way. The Wolfpack would be smart to do that soon.
Tyrique Stevenson, Jaden Davis, and Te’Cory Couch were their normal excellent defensive back selfs. I wrote about the trio here recently. I like Miami for Stevenson, Florida for Davis (though I am less sure of that now), and think we’ll learn more about Couch after his trip to Michigan next week.
Jordan Battle continues to be great, and I wrote about him here two weeks ago. Battle is visiting Ohio State this weekend and Oklahoma the next. I expect him to be a Buckeye, though his dad was wearing a Miami t-shirt on Sunday.
Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) University School safety Josh Sanguinetti continues to be a player to watch. He is super athletic and had two interceptions in the championship round. Miami seems to be the team to beat, but watch out for Stanford.
Other players from Florida
Auburndale defensive end Lloyd Summerall said Georgia and Florida State are still his best relationships, and he’ll be back at FSU for his spring game.
Lakeland Kathleen’s Brendan Gant was impressive. Gant is a big safety. He could grow into a linebacker in some systems. But he played cornerback out of necessity for his team and showed good change of direction.
Players from California
Braedin Huffman-Dixon, a top receiver out of Santa Ana Mater Dei is high on Colorado, along with schools like Arizona State and Oregon. He has good upside and room to fill out.
Everyone I asked is convinced that Bellflower St. John Bosco five-star cornerback Chris Steele is heading to USC, despite rumors to the contrary. “Watch, he’s someone who cares about the name,” a source said.
Orange Lutheran WR Kyle Ford hasn’t been able to take many trips this spring, due to his baseball schedule. He wants to get to Colorado again and plans to attend Oregon’s spring game. Ford also wants to take a trip to see Michigan. Ford said those three, USC, and UCLA are standing out. His tightest relationship is with Colorado coach Darrin Chiaverini. The two remaining offers Ford wants are Ohio State and Clemson. He is not planning to enroll early. Ford is a really built receiver with excellent body control.
Gardena Junipero Serra cornerback Max Williams had an excellent tournament. He missed Day 1 for a trip to Stanford, and was super excited about the Cardinal. Williams said Stanford told him he has an excellent chance to start as a freshman, and he has a strong bond with defensive backs coach Duane Akina. He plans to return for an official. Other official visits include Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, and Oregon. Williams is on the smaller side at a generous 5’9, 170 listing, but he makes play after play.
San Bernadino Cajon receiver Darren Jones and QB Jayden Daniels were impressive. The hookup they show on Friday nights remained consistent as Daniels looked for Jones when there was trouble. Jones is intriguing at close to 6’8 and, at least for his size, pretty athletic. I’d like to see him in some drills to see his agility. Oregon is a strong contender.
Daniels was coming off a trip to see the Gators and Seminoles.
“Going to Florida, I’m going to remember the weather. Humid. They took us by the swamp. We saw some Gators,” he said. I thought Daniels meant Florida’s stadium, known as the Swamp, to see some former Gator legends and statues. But he clarified that he was shown actual alligators, and he liked it.
I don’t get the impression Florida was recruiting Daniels as seriously as Florida State, based on his answers about other schools.
“They treat us like our family when we got there,” Daniels said of FSU. “They took us around to see different areas of Tallahassee and campus. We saw FAMU.”
Daniels cited the signing of a former 7v7 teammate, five-star safety Jaiden Woodbey, with the Seminoles as a factor.
“I see why he decided to go out there,” He said. “The energy, the vibe that Coach Taggart is bringing. It’s just a different energy and vibe.”
But distance will matter.
“It’s going to play a factor. But anywhere you go, you could be homesick. The big thing is, can I see myself living there?”
Daniels identified four coaches with whom he has the best relationship.
“Coach [Troy] Taylor from Utah, [Marques] Tuiasosopo from Cal, and I’m starting to build one with Coach [Walt] Bell and [Willie] Taggart at Florida State.”
Daniels wants to narrow it down before the season, take his trips, and make a decision.
“I care about the relationship, the fit, and seeing if I could live there.”
His idol is the “cool, calm, collected” Deshaun Watson.
Santa Ana Mater Dei cornerback Jeremiah Criddell was also on the trip to Florida with Daniels. Criddell seems more open to coming east.
“It was really big time. We see a lot of guys from Cali are starting to make that move,” he said.
“UF was different. It was like the swamp life. A lot of Gators, a lot of snakes, stuff like that, it was really humid.” he said. “But player-wise, they just have a different grind. The incoming freshmen are gonna take somebody’s spot and play right away.”
Criddell had never seen a gator in person before, and he liked it.
He was already familiar with Florida State.
“My brother Jaiden Woodbey is up there. He’s like a big brother to me. We talk a lot,” Criddell said. “Seeing him from Cali — I lived next to him — seeing him make that transition and see how that’s happening for him there and how he’s just balling there, you can’t get anything better than that.
“Most people were looking at Woodbey as an SC product, thinking he’d stay home. The farthest people go sometimes is like [the Arizona schools], but going all the way out there, it sets no boundaries. We can do anything.”
“Coach Taggart at Oregon was my second offer, and he knows my mom. That relationship is still really tight. When we were in his office, it was like he never left. I met the DC and all the coaches, and it’s a big family.”
Criddell wants to commit before the season starts. He expects Washington, Oregon, and Florida State to be on his list, and maybe USC. He’d like to hear from LSU.
Moreno Valley Ranch Verde safety Jaxen Turner had a strong tournament. UCLA could be a school to watch.

Players from Georgia
UGA receiver commitment Jadon Haselwood was perhaps the best player I saw in the tournament. He is officially visiting Oklahoma on April 13, but I believe from chatting with him that he is locked in with the Bulldogs.
6’3 Marietta receiver Ramel Keyton looked good throughout the weekend. Keyton was at Auburn last week and said that he enjoyed seeing the Tigers’ coaches in action. Keyton’s mother made a trip up to check out Tennessee over the weekend. Keyton’s working top six is Ohio State, Auburn, Miami, Penn State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. He said his tightest relationships are with Tennessee and Auburn. He wants to enroll early.
I was impressed with the play of Jalyn Phillips, a safety from Lawrenceville Archer, who played a lot of corner over the weekend. Phillips has an official visit on April 13 to Oklahoma, and has visited Tennessee (twice), Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia in March. Phillips said Oklahoma and Alabama are “locks” to make his final list. Phillips has a great relationship with DB coach Kerry Cooks at Oklahoma.
Jaylen McCollough, a four-star safety out of Powder Springs Hillgrove, had a strong tournament with multiple interceptions. McCollough is a muscled safety, so I wanted to see how he would do in a non-contact setting, and I came away impressed.
McCollough was excited to get to Alabama’s spring game on April 21 and is figuring out which visits to take. As an early enrollee, McCollough plans to take a few officials in the spring. He has visited Tennessee and South Carolina. Tennessee DB coach Charles Kelly recruited and coached his dad in college.
Also playing corner was safety Kenyatta Watson, and doing a good job of it. The Loganville Grayson product looked the best I’ve seen of him. Texas may hold a slight edge over Notre Dame, and he is likely to make a decision before his senior year. Return visits to both schools will go a long way.
Players from Texas
Garrett Wilson was arguably the best receiver. The Austin Lake Travis product is so smooth in and out of his routes and skies to get the football, despite not being all that tall. Ohio State and Texas are locked in a battle, and you can expect the decision soon. If Texas’ offense can improve this year, look for the Longhorns.
I’m not sure anyone made more one-handed catches than Austin Bowie receiver Elijah Higgins. The 6’3 Higgins would seem like a lock to Texas, but since January, he’s maintained Stanford is a threat.
Houston St. Pius X receiver Jalen “Boobie” Curry has seen his ranking fall as other prospects matured, but he is still a priority target. He’ll visit Ohio State April 13 and Tennessee on April 20. Curry said Ole Miss, Tennessee, Ohio State, and TCU are recruiting him hard. I’m interested in seeing how top-10 programs handle his recruitment and how long he’ll wait on them.
QB Grant Gunnell, of Houston St. Pius X was one of the best QBs. The 6’6 prospect is considering a number of schools, with a visit to Cal on deck for this weekend, an official to Arizona, and likely return trips to Oklahoma State and Oregon. Gunnell is high on Ohio State and Penn State. If LSU gets its act together on offense, the Tigers could become a factor.
Alvin CB Marques Caldwell had a few nice interceptions for the Fast Houston squad.
I liked North Richland Hills WR Rashee Rice quite a bit. Rice is rated the No. 107 receiver in the nation, and I expect he’ll end up in the top 75 if the 6’2 wideout keeps it up.
Standouts from other states
Sam Howell, of Monroe (NC) Sun Valley was perhaps the best QB. He committed to Florida State on Monday, and I gave the rundown to our Florida State blog, Tomahawk Nation.
David Bell, an elite receiver from Indianapolis (In) Warren Central, could be a nice addition to Ohio State, if the Buckeyes push for him.
Sheridan Jones, an elite corner from Norfolk (Va.) Maury, tells me he is focused on Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama. Jones was lockdown all weekend, and has legitimate length at 6’.
Vancouver (Wa.) Union athlete Lincoln Victor was a difficult cover. I didn’t get to speak with him, and his 247 profile does not list any offers, but some could be coming.

Joe Devance makes return as Ginebra renews rivalry with Meralco at Philippine Arena
BARANGAY Ginebra’s frontline gets shored up, while Meralco’s remains shorthanded as both teams renew their brewing rivalry on Sunday night at the same state-of-the-art venue they last met, but this time in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Joe Devance is set to make his return after missing the first nine games of the season to recover from a long-delayed foot surgery in the offseason as the Gin Kings face a Bolts side that’s still missing Ranidel de Ocampo and Jared Dillinger, and could also be without Cliff Hodge.
Both teams battle in a rematch of the last Governors’ Cup Finals at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, where they squared off in the last three games of the best-of-seven series, the last game seeing the Gin Kings prevail, 101-96, to defend their championship last October.
But they won’t have the benefit of their super imports in Justin Brownlee for the Gin Kings and the Bolts’ Allen Durham.
At least the Gin Kings have a returning local player as assistant coach Richard del Rosario confirmed that Devance will play after being reactivated in lieu of John Wilson, while it remains to be seen if Hodge can suit up after hurting his knee in their 92-90 win over Phoenix on Valentine’s Day.
The Gin Kings are coming off back-to-back blowout victories, the latest a 93-78 rout of TNT KaTropa last Sunday, to erase the stigma of losing four of their last five games following a 2-0 start.
The Bolts, on the other hand, are fighting for dear life with a 3-6 win-loss card, and are looking to follow up their win against the Fuel Masters that kept their flickering postseason hopes alive.
“No doubt, it’s been a struggle for both teams since meeting in the finals, but we’re both playing better of late,” Gin Kings coach Tim Cone said on the eve of their rematch that tips off at 6:45 p.m.
Without a standout big man, the Bolts rely on another perimeter-oriented attack led by Chris Newsome and Baser Amer.
“They will look to put five shooters on the floor so our bigs will have to extend out away from the basket,” Cone said. “We’ll have to find ways to cover all of them.”
NLEX, tied with Ginebra at 5-4, also seeks to book its ticket to the playoffs as it takes on Blackwater (4-5) in the curtain-raiser at 4:30 p.m.

Mighty Sports: Dubai International Basketball Championship
Tumblr media
Mighty Sports, a Philippines basketball team under Mighty Corporation and Mighty Sports Apparel and Accessories, has once again represented the country at the 2017 Dubai International Basketball Championship after the William Jones Cup.
After winning the title from William Jones Cup in Taiwan and silver medal from Merlion Cup in Singapore, Mighty Sports had only a couple of weeks preparation and went straight to 2017 Dubai International Basketball Championship.
The team was led by NBA veterans Hasheem Thabeet, Dominic McGuire, Justin Brownlee and Marcus Douthit from Mighty spurts. Coach of Mighty Sports, Chris Tiu and center Beau Belga bannered the local cast along with PBA veterans, JC Intal, Gary David, Ryan Arana and two-time MVP Willie Millier who were added in the team’s lineup. Amateur standouts Kiefer Ravena, Jeron Teng and Jett Manuel were also added in the team’s roster.
“Al Ahli is a tough team, No. 1 in their local tournament. They are led by former NBA players in Sam Young and Chiekh Samb. Plus they are the home team so it should be a big challenge.” said the former Gilas assistant coach.
“Hopefully, the mix of having some veterans and smart players will help our cohesion. Chemistry is something we are still working on. We will have one complete practice before the tournament,” said Mighty Sports coach.
Mighty Sports first appearance on the tournament didn’t went well from Al Ahli due to the lack of cohesion and team chemistry.
Al Ahli is known as one of the teams to beat in the annual basketball tournament that gathered some of the best club teams in the region.
On their second game, they lost to the Egypt national basketball team, Moatazpellah Okasha’s three triples during the period which lead the game to 45-33. Mighty Sports had a chance to bring back the game into overtime followed by two misses from Youseff Aboushousha. Moatazpellah Okasha ended the game with 24 points.
The team managed to beat Ball Above All with a score of 94-80 to end their stint in the tournament with a single win.

Meralco frustrates Ginebra, forces Game 7
Photo by Tristan Tamayo/INQUIRER.net BOCAUE — With Meralco’s back against the wall, the local crew finally woke up from its slumber and led the Bolts to a 98-91 victory over Ginebra on Wednesday at Philippine Arena here to force a winner-take-all Game 7 in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals. Allen Durham didn’t have to carry much of the load this time, as he got significant contributions from surprise starter Garvo Lanete and super sub Reynel Hugnatan as Meralco finally found their mark from downtown to hush the record 53,642 in attendance. READ: More than 50k fans attend Ginebra-Meralco Finals Game 6  “The motivation is just winning. We just wanted to have the chance to play for a Game 7 and we got it,” said coach Norman Black. With championship series tied at 3-3, Ginebra and Meralco will go for all the marbles in Game 7 on Friday, with another massive crowd expected at the world’s largest indoor arena. The reigning Best Import scattered 28 points, 19 rebounds, and three assists for the Bolts as he gets one more shot at completing what he regards as his “unfinished business.” With the Bolts connecting from the three-point land, they pummeled the Gin Kings early, jumping off to a 22-12 lead in the early goings which ballooned to 20, 44-24 midway in the second period. Hugnatan punished the Gin Kings from rainbow country, going 6-of-12 from three to wound up with 24 markers, seven boards, and four dimes. Lanete was on-point as well from beyond the arc, pumping 15 points powered by three triples, on top of five rebounds and two assists. Chris Newsome also flirted with a triple-double with his 10 markers, 11 assists, and seven assists, as he orchestrated Meralco’s standout 12-of-28 sniping from threes this game. Ginebra, though, came back strong in the second half, unleashing a 32-point third quarter blast and slowly chipped away Meralco’s lead to as low as four, 90-86, with a Mark Caguioa jumper with 3:45 to play. The Kings, though, could not secure the rebound in the clutch as the Bolts repeatedly got their cracks at the bucket before Durham and Hugnatan delivered the dagger baskets in the final minute. “I think the two days off did us a lot of good. It helped to revive our legs a little bit and give us energy. It was still really tough to beat Ginebra. They’re well-coached, they play hard every game, and of course they have the crowd support so they never really get down. And you really have to fight every second just to beat them,” said Black. The Bolts outrebounded the Gin Kings, 51-41, with Meralco securing 22 offensive boards. Justin Brownlee paced Ginebra in the losing effort with 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, while Greg Slaughter chimed in 18 markers and six boards. The Scores: MERALCO 98 – Durham 28, Hugnatan 24, Lanete 15, Newsome 10, Dillinger 9, Hodge 6, Amer 6, Caram 0. GINEBRA 91 – Brownlee 23, Slaughter 18, Tenorio 12, Thompson 12, Devance 11, Aguilar 6, Caguioa 6, Ferrer 3, Taha 0. Quarters: 29-17, 54-37, 75-69, 98-91. Written by: Randolph B. #BO16: My review of YouTube Red
Tumblr media
No, it’s not the Rated R brother of YouTube. Haha
On July 28th, I had to say a goodbye to a new friend in YouTube Red. Due to personal budget cuts, poor YouTube Red didn’t make the cut.
YouTube Red is another one of these $7.99, $8.99 or $9.99 per month apps and services that are taking over the world. Basically, your subscription of YouTube Red is a pass where you can watch all the YouTube you want commercial free. From TV shows that people uploaded to; to binge watch videos of YouTube personalities like Jenna Marbles or my favorite, tech vlogger Marques Brownlee (@MKBHD).
Also, your subscription gives you access to their originals department “YouTube Red Originals” because that’s the popular trend these days. You have to have your own originals department. Lol.
But wait, there’s more…
Not only do you get ad-free YouTubing but, you get to save and view YouTube videos offline and listen to videos no matter in the background while checking your Facebook or whatever you are using on your phone. That’s just on the main YouTube app. You can also listen to music and watch music videos offline and online to your heart’s content on the newly created “YouTube Music” app.
Tumblr media
I was looking at the song catalog of Robbie Williams while listening to Francesco (@imyourfm) on Google Play Music
The most important perk that one gets with YouTube Red subscription is the Google’s version of Spotify called Google Play Music. Not only do you get ad-free YouTube Video but, access to 35 million plus songs in Google Play Music store catalog and whatever music that you’ve bought and uploaded to your Google Play Music locker. That right there was worth the ten dollars per month, sign me up for those two features just alone.
My Verdict
On October 28th, YouTube Red was released to the public and anyone could sign up and try the subscription service out for a month for free. I like watching YouTube on my TV using a Roku stream stick and who doesn’t want free access to infinity songs with the Google Play Music service. So forking over the ten dollars per month fee was a great deal.
Eight months later though. Paying ten dollars per month wasn’t too worth it for the service. I wasn’t getting the value of YouTube Red warranted to continue to fork over ten dollar bills every month.
After eight months, I watch a whole heck a lot of Periscopes and Buskers than I do watching YouTube. There’re days that I don’t even watch YouTube at all. The days after I dropped the subscription, I haven’t really noticed or the ads haven’t bothered me on YouTube.
The eight months that I had YouTube Red, not once I cared about finding out what was going on YouTube Red Originals tab. To be honest with you guys, I am not interested devoting time and energy on new TV shows at this stage of my life. Every time that I do, it ends up getting canceled. So no thank you.
It was awesome in having 35 million plus songs at my disposal but, I very seldom ever used to and listened to so and so’s (insert any artist) music library/ collection. If I like a song, I’ll just purchase the song for a $1.29 at the Google Play Music store. I have no qualms in doing so.
Matter of fact, I spent more time listening to the iHeartRadio, Stitcher and Slacker Radio apps than listening to the Google Play Music app. I’ve even caught myself saying something like this, “Well, let me make Google Play Music app useful and play some so and so.” That’s basically signs that I was wasting money. Haha.
In Conclusion
YouTube Red subscription is not bad value subscription and it’s perfect if you’re a YouTube-holic and spend countless hours looking at all the Smosh, Shane Dawson videos, reaction videos and “Damnnnnnn Daniel” parody videos you want. YouTube Red subscription is also perfect if you’re an avid music fan by making the YouTube Music and Google Play Music apps really standout.
But my case usage didn’t really justify the ten dollar subscription. If I was more of an avid music fan than I say heck yes but, when you have apps like iHeartRadio taking care of your music void. Again, it just didn’t justify the subscription price.
And if you want commercial free YouTube, just get Ad Block Plus for your computer for free. Problem solved. You’re welcome! Lol.

Defending champ Ginebra, Meralco clash headline Govs’ Cup opening week
Game time is at 6:30 p.m. here a full house crowd is expected to witness the face-off between the Kings, who will now have starting center Greg Slaughter back after suffering from a knee injury last year, and the Bolts.
Prolific import Justin Brownlee, best remembered for sealing Ginebra’s championship in the Governors’ Cup last season via his game-winning triple at the buzzer, renews his rivalry with hulking reinforcement Allen Durham, back for a second tour of duty with Meralco.
Serving as the curtain raiser for the Ginebra-Meralco clash in the 4:30 p.m. match between Star and Blackwater.
The Hotshots will be reinforced by wide-bodied former Auburn Tiger Cinmeon Bowers, while the Elite tapped former University of North Carolina at Greenboro standout Trevis Simpson as their import.
The Elite are out to improve on their woeful 2-9 showing in the Commissioner’s Cup, while the Hotshots are determined to barge into the Finals after back-to-back semifinal finishes this season.
Meantime, the game between KIA Picanto (formerly Mahindra Enforcer) and Phoenix formally kicks off the season-ending conference on July 19 at the Big Dome.
The Picanto, mentored by Chris Gavina, will have import Chane Behanan pitting against comebacking Eugene Phelps, back for a second PBA stint with the Fuel Masters.

Brownlee celebrates birthday with ‘special win’
And it was no different on Sunday night when the Gin Kings cut the erstwhile streaking TNT KaTropa down to size behind a solid 107-89 victory—their fourth consecutive—in the mid-season tournament featuring imports with a maximum height limit of 6-foot-10.
As convincing as their latest victory is, Justin Brownlee, the smallest import in the field at 6-foot-4, feels he and the rest of the Gin Kings still have plenty of room for improvement.
“We still got a lot to grow, the good thing is we haven’t hit our ceiling, we’re still getting better and better,” said the former St. John’s U standout who sizzled all game long with 34 points on 15-of-27 shooting from the field on top of 15 rebounds, six assists and two blocks in 40 minutes of solid play.
“Coach Tim, he’s doing a great job with the game plan. That alone, I think teams have a hard time adjusting to Tim Cone’s game plan every game. That’s the biggest thing, teams having to adjust with his game plan and his coaching staff.”
For sure, Brownlee earned himself a fitting present right on his 29th birthday.
“I’m not too familiar in my past games if I won or lost anything but this birthday was definitely a special win, the way the team embraced me. For them to dedicate this game to me, that alone is special,” he said.
However, the Tifton, Georgia native intends to shift his focus back to the Gin Kings real quick since they’ll be having just a pair of matches in nearly a month starting with an anticipated clash with Alaska on May 7.
“Not playing maybe can throw you off your rhythm a little bit but I’m sure we’re going to be practicing. I think with the days we don’t play, it allows us to just only get better,” he said.
“We just got to stay together, that’s the big key. Our defense, we just got to communicate with each other and just stay fundamental. I don’t think it haas anything with me being taller or shorter, I think if we continue to go with coach Tim’s game plan, and stay fundamental on both ends of the court we’ll be okay.” – Fox Sports Asia

Cone happy to see Ginebra stay sharp despite long break
And on Wednesday night, it was veteran guard LA Tenorio who primarily took the cue from Brownlee as he provided the needed spark in the third canto, enabling the Gin Kings to pull away from the NLEX Road Warriors and continue their winning drive in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup behind a 101-92 victory at the Cuneta Astrodome.
After a slow start, the 5-foot-8 Tenorio rediscovered his fiery form in that decisive quarter where he rammed in eight of his 13 markers, spiked by one of his two triples, and tallied three of his five dimes that kept the Gin Kings on the same page in the course of their dominant surge over the Road Warriors.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone certainly took notice of the former Ateneo standout’s exploits.
“I like how LA came out with a lot of fire in the second half and got things done,” he said during the post-game interview, visibly pleased with how the Ginebra playmaker did his damage on both ends.
Tenorio also came through with two of the Gin Kings’ eight steals in the third, leading to easy lay-ups and transition buckets which accounted for 18 unanswered points—and practically took the fight out of the sloppy Road Warriors.
Brownlee, once again, led the Gin Kings’ decisive tear by pumping in 12 of his game-high tying 18 markers while big men Joe Devance and Japeth Aguilar asserted their force against their smaller NLEX counterparts on the way to their third straight win after four starts.
“We like the way we’re playing in terms of…when Justin gets it going and he gets into his rhythm, we seem to find our rhythm,” said Cone.
“This is a key game for us to win. We needed this for the standings and in trying to get momentum especially coming off a long (nine-day) break.” – Fox Sports Asia

‘Smallest import’ Brownlee comes up with statement game in Manila Clasico
The smallest import in the field listed at 6-foot-4 and 5-of-8 inches, Brownlee stood head and shoulders above the rest of the field as he powered Ginebra to an impressive 113-98 victory over Star on Sunday night in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“I think this game definitely proved something to the league,” said the former St. John’s U standout who waxed hot at the turn as he fired away 21 of his game-high 30 points, some of them even over the outstretched arms of the taller Mitchell.
And without any doubt, the 28-year-old Brownlee fortified the Gin Kings’ faithful belief—and toned down their critics’ view—that he’s capable of helping them duplicate the title run they enjoyed in last season’s Governors Cup that snapped the team’s eight-year title drought.
“I’m sure a lot of people question —I didn’t hear too much, but I’m sure a lot of people questioned us about playing me as a small import against the other bigger import, but I think this game was definitely a statement for us,” he said.
While Brownlee also came through with a game-best 15 rebounds and four blocks on top of six assists and two steals in an error-free 40 minutes of play, the 6-foot-8 Mitchell groped for form as he missed to tally his fifth straight double-double, coming up with just 21 points and nine rebounds.
And the Gin Kings’ collective desire to make life tough for the Hotshots’ dominant import spelled the key.
“Well, he’s a tough guy, very physical,” said Brownlee. “We had a tough time dealing with Mitchell but I think we controlled him pretty good. I’m not sure how many rebounds he had, but I think we did a good job with the rebounds.”
Brownlee added: “He (Mitchell) got a little frustrated. I don’t think its more about me, but maybe the fans. We have great fans who support us and they do a really good job of taunting the opponent. I think it was all the fans, that didn’t have nothing to do with me.”
Brownlee secured his second straight win in Manila Clasico and he could only hope the Gin Kings will use it as a springboard for bigger battles ahead.
“This game is special—especially for the fans and the history behind it. This game right here is always big. Hopefully we could make this a pivotal game for us and we could use the momentum for our next games,” he said. – Fox Sports Asia

Brownlee scoring ‘partner’ LA Tenorio earns Player of Week nod
True, Brownlee was the catalyst in Ginebra’s back-to-back wins over GlobalPort and bitter rival Star, but in both games, Tenorio also stood tall, supplying the offense and bringing in his usual steady leadership for the crowd favorites.
No wonder, the 32-year-old Tenorio’s heads-up play earned him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week, beating a host of candidates led by Kings teammate Sol Mercado, TNT’s Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario and Ranidel de Ocampo, San Miguel Beer’s June Mar Fajardo, Meralco guard Baser Amer and Blackwater’s Mike DiGregorio.
Against the Batang Pier, Tenorio came up with an all-around effort of 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals as Ginebra completed its comeback from a 19-point deficit by posting a runaway 113-96 win last Wednesday.
The former Ateneo standout, then reprised his role as Brownlee’s chief backup, firing a personal conference-best 21 points, including 8 in the final canto as Ginebra reasserted its mastery over Star, 113-98 during the PBA’s 42nd anniversary on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Tenorio is averaging a career-best 16.33 points on 55.3 percent shooting, to go along with 3.67 rebounds and 3.33 assists in the Kings’ first 3 games this conference.
Ginebra now heads to a 9-day break and will return to action on April 19 when it clashes with winless NLEX at the Cuneta Astrodome. – Fox Sports Asia

New Post has been published on http://pba-live.com/back-to-back-wins-fruit-of-ginebras-defensive-mindset-says-mercado/
Back-to-back wins fruit of Ginebra’s defensive mindset, says Mercado
The stocky 6-foot-1 Mercado provided the offensive spark in the final frame as the Gin Kings took full control and refused to give the Hotshots any chance to recover in their 113-98 victory.
The win further underscored their readiness to heavily contend in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Down by as much as 12 points in the third canto, the Gin Kings showed signs of life in the third canto mainly behind import Justin Brownlee.
The sweet-shooting American also got plenty of support from their local crew, led by LA Tenorio and Mercado, during a decisive push early in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Hotshots in impressive fashion.
“I’m just trying to be aggressive,” said Mercado, who banged in eight straight of his 15 points in the fourth, highlighted by back-to-back triples for a 90-80 lead with more than nine minutes to play.
“My teammates gave me those looks and luckily, I was hitting my shots.”
The same way that Mercado did in Ginebra’s epic 4-3 semifinal series victory over Star in the season-opening Philippine Cup.
Defense, however, did the trick for the Gin Kings this time, stressed the former Biola U standout. “Like I said before, it was not just me, it’s the entire team who played great defense. With Justin’s versatility, we are able to play good defense.”
For sure, the Gin Kings gained ample confidence booster as they racked up their second straight win in three starts while stopping the Hotshots’ four-game winning run.
“They are a great team and they are playing with great momentum. To beat them is definitely a huge boost to us,” said Mercado, who also collected seven assists, three rebounds and two blocks in 32 minutes of solid play off the bench.
“Personally, I just like to play every possession, try to break the game down and not try to think about the goal which is winning. I don’t try to be good or great in each possession. My mindset was just thinking how badly we needed this win.”
The victory should also keep the Gin Kings in high spirits as they plunge into a 9-day respite.
“We needed to get our morales boosted, our confidence boosted because we are entering a long break. We don’t want to enter that with a loss. Hopefully we can still carry the confidence we got from this to our next game,” concluded Mercado. – Fox Sports Asia
