the last chapter makes this post relevant again

I love Jiang Cheng cause he’s really not fundamentally a bad guy, he’s just trying to live and stay out of trouble, he’s truly not malicious or cruel. but time after time he makes just not quite the right decision, he takes a path safer and not bad but also that’s also not the right one. there’s resentment and jealously deep inside that’s not motivating him but also that’s still definitely influencing his actions… but those feelings are not really wrong or misplaced to begin with. even if wei wuxian never tried to overshadow him he did, even if he never tried to be the favourite child he was, even if he never meant to make madame yu feel like jiang cheng was insufficient he did. and if jiang cheng blames wei wuxian for the destruction of lotus pier and the death of jiang yanli and jin zixuan, he may not be right, but it’s definitely understandable at least to some degree. he’s interesting cause none of his feelings are exactly wrong, none of his reactions are irrational or evil, none of what he does it what a bad character would do, but he’s still not a good one either. he really defies the good vs evil model. you want to love him but fuck he’s an asshole, you want to hate him but fuck he’s really just trying.

#hes more on the good side than the bad side for sure but hea not A Good Character the same way idk lan wangji is #but fuck man hes just trying #the only bad thing imo is blaming wwx for jiang yanli’s death. she decided to sacrifice herself for him he did not ask her or want her to #and he did not start that fight either #i get why wwx blames himself but he is not responsible for her death and he certainly did not kill her #as for jin zixuan well its kinda arguable cause he didnt intend to thats for sure and the jins did surprise attack him #but as the crator of wen ning he holds responsability for his actions #although i do believe that was planned by jin guangyao cause its the only time wwx lost control of wen ning #and controling him isnt smt he ever struggled to before or after in any capacity safe for when xue yang took over #its too ooc to he coincidential yk #tho i get jc for blaming him with that one - until it was revealed jgy couldve had a hand in it wwx was the only possible responsible person #anyways.. hes trying his best its just that his best is not enough which is quite fitting #considering his entire character is being not quite enough and suffering for it more than hed deserve #oh that and being homophobic :/ i get for realism and shit he cant be all happy wwx has a happy love life and its easy to hate on that #but the cut sleeves comments are too much esp in yunmeng #oh and accusing wwx for the death of his parents? id get blaming him even if i disagree but saying he killed them?? no #besides he had no problem understanding wwx wasnt responsible during the sunshot campain.. its just a total 180 after #which is super fucking hypocritical #honestly i think he was able to swalow his bitterness while wwx was useful cause their goals aligned but after he decided nah fuck that #and :/ still shitting on wwx for protecting some wens #as if he doesnt know very well himself they were all harmless and innocent civilains.. and wen qin who saved his life risquing her own #hes seen shizui he knows that having wen blood doesnt make one inherently bad #but he ignores that and gives wwx shit for protecting a kid and a bunch of old ppl from slavery and torture #no matter how you look at it its not wrong
