apropos of aaaabsolutely nothing except checking future scripts in an attempt to avoid blatant conflict, and look, maybe? somehow? the delivery sounds very very different? but what I am seeing here is two lines that go

proposal: "well, then be The Good Kind Of Patriot" answer: "mhm nah. filial loyalty"

and still The Good Kind Of Patriot reading is like...? Like, I am assuming beta canon pushes that angle or something, but. lord

#I have like six different drafts of far too much effort put into assessing that reading #at this point I'm gonna finish the show and just post a damn essay someday #but omg am I just Not about it #The Good Kind Of Patriot is a blah enough trope as is tbf #but like just arg #not only is it not in this dang text #and a very clear very strong actual value system IS (namely! filial loyalty!)#but just like... truly?#like metaphor allusion scifi is scifi to be clear #but also we are talking about a basically (entirely?) unrepentant space-SS officer here #politically agnostic and driven by personal loyalty alone is er... one of the more reliable recipes #for making such a character reasonably sympathetic #in fairness GKOP readings tend to also read a lot LOT more repentance but that's tail wagging dog imo #there's SOME support for GKOP #there is however without assuming GKOP wholeheartedly er... no... evidence of repentance #for the actual political/professional actions #of y'know. the entire. career. in the space SS. and ongoing onscreen work. for same #(there IS some for... wait for it... betraying personal loyalties. lol)#okay having done that entire grumpy tagramble with no names #ds9 tag
