Disclaimer: NO. I. AM. NOT. MEGS’. LAWYER.
Got it?
(And I’m probably gonna delete this later because I hate the formatting of this, but I gotta get this out. Can’t help it. There’s too many horrible ideas lol)
That bein’ said, I’ve been finding it pretty ironic how, in Hasbro’s attempts to garner sympathy for Megatron for the better part of 20 years, Sunbow (as Sunbow does best) just casually makes you question everything all over again in all of their lore dumping.
Like—
Woah—
Wait a fraggin’ astrominute guys—
You’re tellin’ me, that Megatron was created to be the ultimate weapon of mass destruction and conquest, by earlier Decepticons, in order to give ‘em an edge over the Autobots, as well as let the Universe know (especially after bein’ ruled by the Quintessons) that you better not mess with Cybertron, lest you be utterly, utterly fragged?
Oh my…there’s a scrap ton to unpack there.
Makes it all the more fascinating (and even incredible, honestly) with the way Megatron carries himself throughout the show.
Listen, as much as I love to make fun of him, I’ll give credit where credit is due. This is an unbiased Decepticon news blog (or at least I’m gonna keep tellin’ myself that—). 🩶❤️🖤
(For example, note the difference here between a Megatron who was essentially designed to be a monster, vs. a Megatron who wasn’t, yet still is one)
Like he's not (maybe unfortunately) just some mindless brute with an army at his disposal (I’d argue none of ‘em are, and if you think so, then I think you’ve been deceived), as how could someone who's just a “mindless brute” even maintain an army, right?
You have to be calm, you have to be patient (and my God, is he patient).
It certainly helps if you're charismatic and cunning too.
Hell, even merciful and strong enough to be gentle.
(As another example, you know he could have easily crushed this guy, and yet to reiterate, he clearly knows his own strength
Granted Bayverse Megatron could have easily done the same to Carly in DOTM, and chose not to, but I just think it’s much more telling with this version considering the origins we’ve just discussed)
Makes you wonder whether he was programmed to have such self-restraint, or he developed that self-restraint on his own.
Yeah, a lot of what he does or doesn't do can be attributed to the show being rated TV-Y7, but—
J-just—
Let’s just roll with and roll the frag out with that lol.
Sunbow Megatron is basically the Iron Giant, if he never damaged his head, if he never had a “Hogarth” to form an attachment to—
He’s a literal gun, but maybe (and I can’t believe I’m sayin’ this) he can’t choose.
As in, he might not actually have the capacity to end his long-term goals (at least on his own. Or with most ‘Cons), due to what the earlier Decepticons programmed him to be.
Everyone’s got their instincts, after all.
Tell me rn that can’t be a possibility given the technology of G1.

Kent Mansley is super out of line, and quite frankly a jackass—but he’s right.
And I hate that.
(He would lose his mind if he were in any Transformers continuity fr lol)
With how easy it is to change a Transformer’s personality in G1, I think we can all just throw the whole "nature vs. nurture" debate out the window because frag, man.
Let’s just pin every Decepticon down and reprogram ‘em to be good, why not.
(And vise versa with the Autobots, if that’s what the Decepticons wanted)
Better than spending millions of years wreakin’ havoc upon the same Universe the earlier Decepticons (as l interpret) viewed as being that much of a threat, with this "we are going to destroy/conquer it before it destroys/conquers us" mentality.
Hey, maybe that's how Kiloton got Megs to finally make peace with the Autobots. He didn't just heal Megs, but actually reprogrammed him for the better.

Good job, Kiloton. 👍
(Now have fun wonderin’ who programmed him. Certainly not the earlier Decepticons. Bet they were the ones who sent Kiloton away to die for what he did)
Ask yourself (and there are no wrong answers of course. This is complex and I’m surprised I haven’t gotten a headache typin’ this):
If you have to, do you really want to feel bad for a Megatron who grows to be entitled (in which you have to be able to make choices to get to that point, which means you have to have free will and agency), rather than a Megatron whose sole purpose is to be entitled whether he had a say in it or not?
Like maybe he was someone else before, like Orion Pax and Ariel, who technically didn’t have a choice in who they were going to become either.
Not like that fact matters, unfortunately.
Megatron, to other species (as well as his own) is still a threat that needs to be dealt with by someone one way or another.
Even if he comes to learn the differences between “right” and “wrong”, and proves so (like IDW and Earthspark), realistically, nobody is obligated to forgive or care (that’s why Kiloton died. He was still seen as a threat by humans).
That is, until he manipulates ‘em into likin’ him anyway lol.
And he probably manipulated me into typin’ this too. Great.
