i need to keep working on my finals but i high key just want to watch the producers again
#obsessed with the seemingly-accidental queercoding of the two leads' relationship#i feel like i'm reaching in my analysis bc i haven't heard anyone else analyze the film in that way#like ''well i'm queer so i probably just see queerness in everything''#but also like. leo bloom literally never shows an interest in women AND fucking kisses max bialystock on the cheek while watching the show#even if there was no intention to portray them as queer the film still prioritizes male friendship and affection in a plot structure#that almost follows the beats of a romcom#they of course change this in the 2005 version by having leo date ulla. and like it's great that they gave ulla a larger role#bc she is basically just the ''sexy lamp'' trope in the original which is not great#but also in the 1967 version it's fascinating to read leo as a repressed gay man#has anyone written an academic article on this analysis bc i CANNOT be the only one who sees this
