Whilst I loathe seeing Neil get dragged into fandom drama, this is a good example of the absolute absurdist thinking coming out of purity culture and fandom policing.
That anyone felt they had to get the authors clarification on a really silly point because they were being harassed with incest accusations is so so so fucked up omg.
This is the current state of fandom. If people don't like a fandom ship nowadays, instead of ignoring it or complaining about it in their own circles (gotta love those classic hate blogs) people now are actively twisting the narrative and manipulating canon so they can make those shippers appear immoral and problematic.
Though, to stress, even shipping immoral or problematic things isnt an excuse to send hate and vitriol and we really must shut down purity culture and bring back the old fandom adage "ship and let ship" and "don't like, don't read".
Also think ppl getting upset about incest shipping in The Sandman is pretty hilarious because unfortunately Dream has insane sexual chemistry with literally every single character in the show so like, are you really gonna get on your high horses about the Corinthian when Desire is Right There being as sexual as possible to rile up their uptight brother? Or Death being so very warm and a little bit flirtatious if only to bring him out if his shell? Its a show about dreams and non human characters where literally anything is possible. Let people play in the sandbox however they like and stop fucking policing people's fun.
And for the love of all that is holy, please dont get the author involved in fandom drama anymore.
Quick question, since Corinthian is Morpheus’s creation, does that mean he’s his son?
I’m asking this because an ungodly amount of the fans are ripping each other’s throats and barking like wild animals because of the incest undertones when it comes to pairing them together. I don’t want to concern you with matters that are out of your control, especially when it comes to ships and shit. Though I’d greatly appreciate some form of clarification. (Asking this mostly for my own sanity, though I fear I’ll be taking some of yours in order to do so.) Anyways, whatever you answer may be, I just hope it doesn’t lead to war and bloodshed, which it most certainly will! Thank you for your time, Mr. Gaiman! Good day.
No. The Corinthian's not his son, no more than Gregory the Gargoyle is his son, or the Castle of the Dreaming is his son.
