i'm gonna be so honest, i truly don't care any type of way about the tiktok ban bc i have real problems, but what gets to me is that i feel like everyone's forgotten that trump tried to ban tiktok all the way back in 2020 for sinophobia reasons. that factoid pretty much Never comes up in this current hand-wringing conversation (bc some of y'all let him get away with anything lol like nothing ever sticks bc, what, he's "funny"? bc "the libs" are worse?). republicans in congress have been trying to ban tiktok for Several years now, but everyone's finally up in arms about bc it's finally become a bipartisan thing? the way people are currently talking about it, you'd think it's the fault of the democrats Exclusively. bc "reasons".

anyway, all the conspiracy-theorizing about the "why"s (or worse, the so-called "suspicious timing") is making me roll my eye Sooo hard. it's unbelievably shallow and self-centered, like in a "no object permanence for long-term consequences" sorta way. sure, things change over the course of 4-5 years, duh it's a bipartisan opinion Now (tho this'll be decided by a SCOTUS w/ 3 trump appointees which also, This is what's making people worried about the first amendment? lmao? 3 appointments and a 2nd trump win later??). but no way is this a "too young to remember" thing. y'all are grown, just with the memory of a goddamn goldfish. it's predictable, but Sooo annoying.
