President Joe Biden faces significant and unusual threats to his presidency, which previous presidents have not had to deal with. The most striking is the degree to which many Americans do not recognize his fair electoral victory.;

In the latest Economist/YouGov poll, a sizable percentage of the public and nearly three in four Republicans say they do not accept his election and believe he was not legitimately elected president. The size of GOP doubt about President Bidens election has not changed appreciably since his inauguration. Overall, more than a third of the public today are election doubters.;

For some who reject the election outcome, there is even an expectation that the results will be altered. One in six overall and one in four Republicans now believe it is likely that former President Donald Trump will be reinstated in the White House by the end of the year. One in five Trump supporters believe the same.;

Supporters have falsely claimed that Trump would be reinstated on multiple dates and have changed the expected date each time it does not happen.

Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow had said the reinstatement would take place this Friday, but he has now extended the timeline. Lindell is popular with those with those who think there will soon be a change at the White House.; By more than two to one, those who expect Trump will be reinstated have a favorable opinion of him. Now that Donald Trumps presidency is over, how do the Americans who supported him at the beginning of his political run feel about his performance in the Oval Office? I put that question to 30 men and women who wrote to me in August 2015 to explain their reasons for backing his insurgent candidacy.

Among the eight who replied, all in the second week of January, after the storming of the Capitol, some persist in supporting Trump; others have turned against him; still others have lost faith in the whole political system. They do not constitute a representative sample of Trump voters. But their views, rendered in their own words, offer more texture than polls that tell us an approval rating.

Many Republicans expect Americans will become dissatisfied with record levels of government spending and debt, an increasingly crowded U.S.-Mexican border;and new rules and regulations promulgated by the Democratic Congress and the Biden administration.

Some Republican criticism plays off Biden’s age and his occasionally mangled syntax, but that strategy has met limited success. Some of the attacks mirror the ones Trump made in 2020 against “Sleepy Joe.”

“Trump never found a salient way to brand Biden, and Republicans continue to struggle after the election,” Republican strategist Alex Conant said.

Its hard to be worried when you dont really like the guy. Thats what one senior Republican Senate aide had to say when I asked how concerned conservatives are about Donald Trumps fate.

The truth is, Trump fatigue is a condition that knows no party, and many Republicans are as tired of this shit as anybody else. Thats not to say theyre outraged, or motivated to Make a Difference. Theyre just tired. You can live inside the right-wing bubble in a state of depression, resigned to the fact that, yeah, every five minutes or so, the president is probably going to do something norm-shattering or potentially impeachable, and no, you probably wont or cant do anything to change that. Sad!

Im totally bored by the story, one person who speaks regularly with the president told me. Theres nothing to it. I already know all the details. This person is bored more generally, too with the topic of Donald Trump. When we talk about what it would take for the presidents defenders to turn on him, this crucial piece is missing: You cant feel outraged if you can no longer feel anything at all.

If you were to turn on Fox News, this is what you would hear. I called up Newt Gingrich the other day, and it was like he was just reading directly from these emails, which suggest a strategy of partisan bullying and obfuscation. In other words, no real counterargument or legal defense to speak of.

But most had trouble looking at the world through Democratic eyes. Typical was a a 59-year-old Floridian who wrote I dont want to work and I want cradle to grave assistance. In other words, Mommy!;Indeed, roughly one in six Republican voters answered in the persona of a Democratic voter who is motivated free college, free health care, free welfare, and so on.;;They see Democrats as voting in order to get free stuff without having to work for it was extremely common roughly one in six Republican voters used the word free in the their answers, whereas no real Democratic voters in our sample answered this way.;

The issue then was whether we were one nation called the United States or an assortment of sovereign states, each free to go its own way. Lincoln believed that we were one nation, and he led us in a war to preserve the Union.

While Romney may be the lone Republican senator to defy Trump at all , many organizations like the Lincoln Project, Republican Voters Against Trump, 43 Alumni for Biden and Right Side PAC are forming. All have Republicans at the helm who are publicly supporting Biden in a grassroots effort to take down Trump at the ballot box in November. The focus of many of these groups are swing states such as Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, which are full of suburban voters who voted for Trump in 2016.

While these groups are encouraging, Republican lawmakers still need to understand that they are going to hemorrhage support until they disavow the Trump takeover of their party. If they want people to remain Republican voters such as the ones who belong to these newly formed groups, they need to start rebuilding the party and reground it in the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility and equality for all.

Pedestrian was hit by my car while crossing a road located within a private property (a community college) in Brampton, Ontario (Canada) 2. I was in no position to clearly see the pedestrian in advance as the pedestrian suddenly appeared from behind the huge pile of snow on the side of the road. The pedestrian was walking from the parking lot and came onto the road from a blind spot. 3. I was driving at 30kms/hrs and saw the pedestrian just before I hit the pedestrian. 4. The pedestrian was NOT using the designated pedestrian crosswalk but was jaywalking on the road in attempt to cross the road. 5. I applied brakes as soon as I saw the pedestrian on my way but the pedestrian got hit by the time finished applying the breaks. I think my car came in contact with the pedestrian when the car had almost stopped possibly causing the minimum impact. Pedestrian seemed to be all right (not injured) but was slightly in pain due to the hit as my car hit her in the thigh. She did not fall down and was still able to walk (but was crying due to the shock) 6. I called 911 (both cops and ambulance) and they didnt charge me with offence. 7. The Police Officer concluded that it was not my fault after he confirmed with the witnesses that I actually tried to stop the car and that the pedestrian was jaywalking and not using the pedestrian walk for cross the road. The cop mentioned that I would have been charged if I were not driving on a private property. The building security also concluded that I was not at fault. 8. The police accident report makes no mention of my fault. 9. The paramedics concluded that pedestrian was not injured and was all right but they took her to the hospital anyway (for check up since the pedestrian seemed to have some pain in the thigh) My question is  Although, I was not ticketed or charged, would MY INSURANCE GO UP? I have heard that Insurance companies are notorious and would hold you responsible anyways or may hold you partially at fault?""

Had accident which was my fault in Nov 08, hit a van in rear that stopped suddenly going through a roundabout (less than 5mph) and his trailer hitch ball went into my radiator and damaged the hood, grill and radiator. Car was 1996 Honda in very reasonable condition, MOT'd and all in good service despite its 125,000 mileage, new tyres, exhaust, battery, and clean throughout. Had fully comprehensive insurance with 50 deductable, loaner car and legal support so paid to be protected. When car was collected from accident, collecting garage said at that time that due to the mileage my car would not be repaired. However it took 5 to 6 weeks for the insurance examiner to determine that my car was beyond repair, so I did without a car all that time. Despite repeated phone calls to them, they never called me back as their examiner was on holiday. Then when we finally agree that a price of 500 for my car in January 08 and that took some haggling, the cheque never and so I started chasing them down in early February. I am then informed that I did not disclose a speeding violation on my application and they would have to listen to the tapes of my applying to verify this. Again this took several weeks, and I again had to pursue them for an answer to which they then said I had applied on the internet so no record of a phone conversation. The internet application was misleading, asking for what I believed was 3 years worth of offenses. I've only ever had 2 speeding offenses in my entire life - both speed cameras, just over the limit. The first was at 6 a.m. and I passed a bus pulling over to stop and as I passed it got flashed. The second on the day I found my dad had days to live and I was rushing to catch a flight, and as in both instances was doing 42 mph in a 30 mph zone for a very short period. Nonetheless, I was speeding and paid my fines. I wrote to the insurance company and apologised for not telling them of the other speeding ticket from 4 years and 9 months earlier as I forgot about it. But I admitted it, and apologised in writing. Then then came back to me saying that there would be additional premium to pay before I would get paid for my car. Well, its October 08, and I finally got a letter from the insurers saying they are not paying me as I failed to pay the additional premium requested and they were not going to renew my policy. I have never been asked even after repeated letters to them how much the additional premium was, and what I should do. No replies. I have asked for my car back which they agreed to pay for, and now they state there is nothing they can do, and it is their final decision. I went to the financial ombudsman and unbelieveably DID NOT get a reply from them. I've even spoken to one of their survey staff who tells me that they are incredibly busy and it was probably put aside and not dealt with. I'm at a total loss as to where I stand and how to pursue this without spending more than the accident and car was worth. I've written to their data protection officer and obtained copies of all documentation pertaining to this, so by their records can verify all this information quite clearly. Finally, I maintained my cool with them at all times. Never once did I raise my voice or become unprofessional with them. My questions are: 1. Can I legally request my car back as it has never been paid for? 2. Were they taking money for policy on a car they knew that through mileage alone, they would never pay for loaner car, or to have repaired? 3. This has meant over 30 letters and more phone calls than that to deal with, and rarely do they call you back or reply at all. Can I claim for this time and distress? 4. Am I totally wasting my time? I need financial opinions on whole life insurance policies and am afraid to ask an advisor for fear that he/she would try to sell me something. We purchased three whole life policies in 1991. I know now that most experts advise against them now because of the high premiums, and advise buying term and investing extra money elsewhere......but we have accumulated a lot of dividends over the years but we're at the point now that we are tired of paying the premiums and thinking about having the dividends pay for the policies until the dividends run out....and then of course we would start paying for the polciies again. I see 30 years usually being the longest term life insurance. Well 30 years from now (considering nothing happens to me in the next 30 years), I will only be 60. That is still pretty young and then I wil have to renew my term insurance, but at 60, my premium will be a lot more than it would be right now. SO as you can see, I am at a lost and have no clue what to do. I would like some opinions, feedback, suggestions, etc, that would be much appreciated. My grandfather, who is 72 years old, needs round-the-clock care that has now exceeded our capabilities. He suffers from pre-existing bad to severe dementia. He's suspicious, falls frequently, very forgetful, suffers from sundowning. He just doesn't know what to do and he even struggles with basic life functions. He also suffers from lymphatic cancer that metastasized to his lung and chest cavity, as well as squamous cell carcinoma that is very resistant to all his previous treatment and has spread to open wounds on his arm. Because all of his lymph nodes were removed, his lymphatic fluid constantly pools in that arm and swells to hugely abnormal size. Therefore he has to wear a sleeve to keep it in place, which is painful for him to put on and is time-consuming for his caregiver. He also is supposed to keep his arm elevated, but refuses because of his dementia. He is mean and hateful at times and insists that we are trying to kill him and is always demanding that his caregiver (my aging and stressed grandmother) remain at his side at all times, or he grows suspicious about her fidelity. He has hallucinations. We moved in with them to help her take care of him, but my school work (homeschooled, mainly to take care of them) and my mother's commute to work have also taken a toll on us. We hated to think about it, but we finally resolved that he belongs as a permanent resident in a home. The biggest problem is the astronomical cost which we can't just chip together , as it was never there in the first place. We did research on nursing home coverage and found out about long term care coverage. We found out some basic things like it is best to purchase at a young age. Unfortunately, my grandmother was never educated on insurance and doesn't possess significant life insurance nor anything like long-term care, and he doesn't qualify for the little help Medicaid offers. Although he suffers from cancer, he has reached the end of his treatment. His cancer was too resistant to all prospective radiation and chemotherapy, and the anti-body treatment that he tried, he had a massive allergic reaction to. He has awful pain all the time and is on a rotated regimen of extra strength ibeproufen and high dosage morphine, with a high grade fentanyl pain patch. So, although cancer plays a part in his insurance qualification in name, apart from being administered his medication and sleeve, his cancer is not the main concern as far as his care/treatment goes. We have had to accept that he is going to die sooner or later and are trying to find the best final preparations. Bentonite clay seems to be drawing out some of the side effects of his radiation (after which his cancer got worse), and so may prolong his life. The short prognosis was 2-9 months. His dementia have become exhausting and endless. There's simply nothing we can do anymore. He's on prescription for Aricept for the dementia and we give him melatonin for the sundowning, which seems to have a calming effect. Sorry for the long piece, but we're all very distressed about this and I felt that I had to give a thorough explanation of his ailments and treatment. Our needs are a long-term stay in a nursing home facility covering skilled care for his dementia, activities of daily living, ect. We also hope that he can be treated with respect and dignity. We need affordable prices like anyone else in the middle class, not astronomical rates. We also need a policy that would either cover pre-existing without penalizing for it or not asking health questions, ect., as my grandfather is obviously in need of care we can't offer him. The only policy we have even brushed upon is Physicians Mutual. We don't know anything about it really, and we don't know where to look for anything else. Everything seems to lead to a dead end online when we need a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated.""

Burden

It’s been months, and I’m still made of glass. Months of trying to heal my relationship with Cam, followed by months of trying to rebuild myself from the destroyed heap I had become in his wake. At the writing of my last post, I thought he was gone for good, but I was wrong. I met a guy soon after that and agreed, after many consecutive days of him asking me out, to a date. The day before this date, I sent Cam the first text in a week to tell him my parents knew we had split and that oh, by the way, a boy asked me out. Part of this was to poke the bear and see his reaction, and part was because if we had switched places, I would rather know than not. This opened the floodgates and we talked for several hours. When Sam picked me up at work the next day, Cam was a mess. He spent my whole date texting me and having anxiety at home, freaking out. He hated that I was out. I loved it. I loved feeling important to him, even if it was just jealousy and possessiveness. I never saw Sam again, but this led to months of Cam and I trying to maintain some hideous falsified level of normalcy and couple-ness, reaching its apex with a trip to Kelowna to visit his parents, and culminating the day after I graduated university when we finally split for good. From August to November 23, we built a house out of bullshit and called it a home. December 5th he got a new girlfriend. I was crushed and furious and horrified. 

It’s now March. I don’t live in constant pain anymore, and I haven’t self harmed since August. I don’t cry every day. I sleep well at night. For all intents and purposes, I’m okay. Well, I thought I was.

I spent the first half of December mourning my loss, grieving for the life I thought I would have and the person I thought I would share it with. The second half of December I fucked 3 guys in 10 days. In early January, I started doing porn, of non-traditional sorts. In mid January, I met a boy.

I assumed that since I was breathing again, living my life and laughing and going on adventures and open to possibilities that I had healed. I stopped checking his instagram account from my roommates profile and didn’t bitch about him to my friends anymore. I felt fine, considering. I felt level and semi-stable. 

Mitchel and I started talking- he was sweet and funny and clever, and he always replied quickly to my texts. He consistently gave me compliments until I almost believed them. We met on Tinder of course, and corresponded through messages and texts and Snapchat for quite a while before meeting. By the time he finally showed up at my door (after switching his flights, lying to his mum, and jumping through so many hoops to get there), I was sold. 

The situation was perfect. He was set to move in a few months, meaning 0 commitment necessary. He made me feel good about myself and could handle my attitude. We were both half blind, left wing, feminist, tree hugging nerds and when we talked it just fit. It had all the perks of a great relationship without the when-will-it-end anxiety. I planned to take this gift and run with it. cramming the coming months with as much positivity, fun, sex, and romantic bliss as I goddam could. I wanted to lay in bed together, have sleep overs, go for breakfast at 2am, take him to the End of The World to see the stars and lights, walk our dogs together, go to the water park, see movies, go on drives, fuck in crazy places, go for weekends away, get drunk on Whyte Ave, hang out with our friends, eat dessert in nice cafes, go for long walks, see beautiful views, play board games, and eat pizza in our underwear. I wanted to learn him inside out and eat his perspectives and knowledge and experiences for dinner.I felt open and comfortable with him and with myself and wanted to revel in this until the day he got on that plane. and then I could watch it end with 0 regret and know I had these few months of positive energy and joy with another person. I joked about moving to London with him, but that isn’t something you do on a whim and definitely not something you do for a random boy you barely know/ Having an end date was part of the magic- it took the pressure away.

One thing I didn’t count on, however, is how fragile I remain. I know I am not healed, but I thought that I was still doing pretty alright. 

As the first month came and went, things started dying down. Immediate text replies became replies an hour or two later. Sexy snapchats stopped being a thing, as did dirty talk and flirting. Hanging out twice a week or so became once a week, and only when I planned it. Most of the time we just laid in bed and watched Netflix (still using Cam’s account), or ate food. I dragged him out for Valentines Day and we had a blast, but it took some pushing to get him to agree. Each individual instance was  generally understandable, but overall I stopped feeling the rush of the possibilities that appear when you meet someone amazing, and instead started feeling like I was on another sinking ship. Like with Matt or Cam, I got the feeling I was just too much trouble to be with, that he had better things to do and better people to occupy himself with. I felt like a chore. 

I could shrug it off when he wasnt available due to work or plans with other people, but eventually the plans I was being bumped for became “laying in bed” and “staying in”. I was being out-prioritized by napping and television and it cut me deep. Again, my glass started to crack and I was feeling myself come apart. It hurts to feel like I’m regressing, but maybe I’m just taking off my fake happy mask to reveal how I actually am- sad, broken, and weird. I just spent 3 months allowing Cam to make me feel like anything aside from sex was a pain in the ass for him to deal with, and now here I am, feeling like a pain again. I did talk to him about it, and his response was an apology and to immediately drive to my house to visit me. A week later I felt that way again and ended up back in the Dark Place. I was so miserable and felt so alone... I felt like a burden to everyone, like I would be lonely forever because I was just too much to handle, too needy, too weird, too broken and unstable. I was a mess all day at work, but the thought of going home afterwards and sitting alone in my room was unbearable. Mitchel unsurprisingly didn’t want to come over, so I went back on tinder for the first time in a while to try and find someone to make me feel less ugly and alone. If my options were to sit home alone and cry, or invite a stranger over and fuck him for warmth, I chose door #2. To his credit, when Mitchel found this out, he once again drove to my rescue. Twice in a week he showed up for me, but not because he wanted to be with me. Even though it was a kind gesture, that still soured it to an extent. In that situation though, I found being with someone because the feel bad for you is still better than being alone.

I guess I foresaw something more exciting, more adventurous. The time limit lit a fire under my ass to create these experiences with him, but it seemed to discourage him from trying. Maybe the excitement is gone for him. Maybe he doesn’t really like me anymore. I don’t know. The fun guy who travels the world and takes me away for weekends by the lake seems to have been replaced by a guy who texts me during his lunch break at work and between naps, and would rather watch tv than go out or come over. 

I’m at my ropes end at this point, because I just dont have it in me to chase him. I’m exhausted and beaten and it’s a waste of my time. If he doesn’t want me, I’ll walk, thats fine. I just cant stomach feeling like a burden again, I can’t handle feeling like I felt last year. I won’t survive it.
