the most excited/happy I have been in weeks is about twenty minutes ago when I found out there's an audio version of a book called "Glass House: The 1% Economy and the Shattering of the All-American Town" which is all about how Lancaster, Ohio's downfall began in the 1980's due to the rise of global financial engineering and how the local Anchor Hocking Glass plant played into it.
It was published in 2017 too, so its recent and covers modern history. AND they're going to discuss things like the rise of Trumpism in small towns.
I love that I got to do art in college and really feel like my fundamental classes were essential and I would not be at the caliber I am today without those.
But.
When I get excited about shit like this I feel like I really should have gone to college for a history or sociology degree.
#ironically it probably isn't gonna be a happy listen#and will likely be a little dry#but I've been working on some intense research work re: mid-century glassware#and someone who wrote THE coolest breakdown of the decline of the Anchor Hocking/Fire-King glass companies sourced it several times#and then she ended the whole thing recommending it#ANYWAY.#I know so much about mid century glass companies now#put me on who wants to be a millionaire and ask me questions about Corning I'll win#don't go to art school kids
