As it turns out gripping a double edged razor blade 6 hours a day makes your fingers very calloused and somewhat numb.
#ra speaks#personal#grad school#as in I was holding the nonsharp sides and trying to carefully shave away a dime sized patch of beech bark#which is deceptive because while it is very thin (good for studying fungal lesion growth) it is also very hard (lots of stone cells)#<- specialized cells with hardened particles#so razor blade had to cut very very thin pieces of very very hard bark#but I had to use razor blades bc again. very thin so bigger blades would gouge into the periderm.#anyways my hands are cramped I won’t be able to use my index fingers for the next week#on a high note I did not cut myself once in all the literally 1k+ lesions I scraped so that’s a win#now I’m eepy goodnight
