#but I also love to exaggerate it for comedic effect so uhhh

Do you think the 2021 GotG game adapted Adam well? I'm mainly familiar with him from the DnA GotG comics + his random appearances post that and various bits and pieces of older comics from the 70s-90s, and I personally found his portrayal in the game entertaining + interesting with a unique take on the Magus aspect being something that's feeding off of other people's grief, but I'm curious as to what someone more familiar with the character thinks about it all.
Yeah I liked it!!! I didn't really know what to expect from Eidos-Montreal but I was really pleasantly surprised by how good the GOTG game is overall. First time I played it me and my roommate were in genuine hysterics every time Adam opened his stupid mouth, I think it not being bad overloaded my brain or something I like truly couldn't handle it.
Compared to the comics Adam is definitely a biiiiit more exaggerated for comedic effect (like with the constant alliteration/Magus' rhyming) but I think it works, it's fun and rings true to how dramatic and over the top he often is + I LOVE that they leaned into him being this somewhat socially inept asshole who wants to do good but just goes about it in the worst ways possible. They really captured his holier-than-thou attitude and general air of self-importance, like Adam instantly asserting his authority over the guardians and butting heads with Peter while everyone constantly makes fun of him because he's such a (sexy) jackass I just š god it's so funny I'm shocked he didn't snap and try to kill everybody sooner.
I also enjoyed their take on the Magus and how they handled the Universal Church of Truth as a whole... It's definitely different but Adam becoming somekinda shapeshifting god parasite isn't TOO big of a leap to make, really, and Raker's alright.
I think the Magus latching onto people's grief to indoctrinate them is a smart way to tie the story/characters together and it provides a nice simple throughline between the Magus and Warlock too, with Adam's desire to help others twisting into this false promise of a universal paradise without suffering. The game doesn't really dip into it but since this Magus was in part created by Adam separating himself from the Soul Gem I feel like "The Promise" serves as an interesting parallel to Soul World; Adam has always felt most comfortable in this idealized haven where he's the de facto leader and there's no conflict or struggle for understanding because everyone is spiritually connected to each other(/him).
The Promise is also a lot like the Goddess' scheme from Infinity Crusade where we see her utilize grief similarly to game!Magus when recruiting people into her death cult, it's a very natural extention of Adam's unsavory manipulation tactics and other hang-ups from the comics.
Having the Magus manifest as this living hunger that grows from Adam's darkest thoughts and impulses is very cool actually BUT. If I gotta nitpick then while I don't mind making Magus more literally nonhuman I do wish we got to see a bit more of him/it as an extention of Adam himself. Most of that internal conflict happens pre-game and gets relegated to exposition and flavor text which is FINE since the game isn't really about Him but you know. He is always the main character in my heart and I would like to see the full corruption arc please. Generally this is maybe more of a preference thing but Magus as Adam from the future >>> Magus as an evil aspect of Adam, while I like both the difference is significant lol.
Alsooooo it's really cute how Adam gets (begrudgingly) accepted by the guardians and learns a little more about the power of love & friendship by the end AND I just wanna know more about all the unanswered questions regarding Adam's pre-game hijinks/death and Thanos' mysterious disappearance... we need a sequel SO bad. š
Okay wait, last minute addition but shoutout to the scene where Lady Hellbender hits on Adam and he just clams up like UHHH....... because out of all the characteristics to carry over from the comics I truly wasn't expecting "fear of women" to make the cut.
#anonymous#tl;dr good game!!! much to think about...#also they get extra points for including pip as adam's bestie<3#somehow totally forgot to mention but it's also really good how they worked in Adam just wanting a purpose#he chooses to help people because he seeks meaning not because it's the morally right thing to do#text

Cloudchaser and Flitter Explain: Agile
If you say soā¦
ahem Hello Flitter. Do you know what we have been practicing at the Wonderbolts Academy lately?
Why no, do tell!
Well, there are a lot of things. Sometimes we practice our speed. Sometimes we practice our guts. But lately we have been practicing our agility. Speaking of agility, thatās our topic for the day: Agile.
Youāre supposed to put a pause between those two lines, Ciciā¦
Iām just reading what you put down here.
Well, yeah, but thereās more to telling silly jokes than just reading them.
You gotta put some emotion into it! If youāre not having fun, no one else will. And more important than that isā¦
Uhhh, is what?
Hi everypony! Like I tried to get Cici to tell you all, today weāre talking about Agile! The new keyword from Friends Forever!
Well, new-ish. Weāre still a bit behind.
Er, Flitter?
So Agileās pretty neat. Itās basically the equivalent of Hasty, only for the āMove a Characterā action instead of the play a āFriend, Resource, or Event Cardā action.
Which is to say it lets you take the normal pay 2 AT to move a character Main Phase action whenever you could take an Immediate action instead. Cici! Tell everyone why thatās important!
Huh? Oh, sure.
Well, in theory, Agileās pretty great because it allows for more efficient confronts. Letting you move characters when you canāt normally move them is pretty powerful, and why cards like Rainbow Dash & First Mate Mullet are so good.
Howeverā¦
There are basically no good Friends with Agile. At all.
Cici!
Sorry, Flitter, but they basically wasted this keyword. The closest to a good Friend with Agile is Flash Magnus, but he just costs too much.
Though Core is rotating soon. He may be good then...
Okay little miss bigshot, whyās Agile so bad if you just said it was good?
Wellā¦ it wasnāt really put on any impactful Friends, you know?
Thereās 12 Friends with Agile, but none of them really do anything all that impactful. Agile is ostensibly an aggro ability, but the rate on most of these Friends is just not all that exciting. Paying 2 to move a Friend with 2 power and no other benefit isnāt really exciting you know?
Almost all of those cards have abilities when they move, Cici. Or at least when they confront something.
Sure, but the benefit is pretty small for the cost youāre investing. Like, why not just play another Friend who does something instead? Or use more cost efficient immediate movement options like Hasty Friends and Princess Luna: Dream Warrior?
Because Iām building convoluted engines that involve flipping my Troublemakers down with Strawberry Sunrise before my opponent can defeat them, then uncovering them again for minor benefit!
ā¦.Why?
Well, itās like that famous philosopher saidā¦
Anything worth doing is worth doing as silly as possible!
...Pinkie Pie said that, didnāt she?
It was Cheese Sandwich, actually.
You really should go take a tour of his amusement factory! Thereās lots of fun stuff you can learn!
Maybe later...
But the point is, this is something new I can do that I couldnāt do nearly as easily before! And itās all thanks to Agile.
Yeah, butā
Sure, itās not the most effective plan, but itās there! And Iām glad Agile exists!
I am too!
I just wish it was on better Friendsā¦
But, you know, itās pretty good on the non Friends. Defend the Hive and Surprise Take Off are both kind of super good, since they can give Agile to things that donāt normally have it. And thereās a lot of cool stuff you can do with them.
Like using Daring Do: Crafty Collector to confront Surprise Take off to give you an AT which you then use to move Daring Do to another problem and confront and get an AT again.
Itās probably worth pointing out at this point that since Agile counts as a main phase movement, itās also affected by Swift!
Of course, itās also affected by Showy, which isnāt as great.
Eh, no one uses Showy, so who cares?
Werenāt you beaten by a Showy Mane last year at Continentals?
That was a fluke, I swear...
Maybe weāll get more Agile in the next set on cards you like better.
You think? Oh, I hope thereās an agile Friend who moves another Friend when you move it. Just think of all the possibilities!
Anyway, Agile definitely opens up a lot of interesting things you can do. Like move to a troublemaker to challenge it when youād have had to have waited until the next turn before. Or to counter Purple movement abilities like Burning Bridges.
Yeah. Thatās a real strong use of agileā¦
Maybe if Purple movement saw more play, weād see a bit more Agile? But nowadays Purpleās usually paired with Pink or White and just removes Friends a bit more permanentlyā¦ hrm.
Coreās going to rotate soon, though. Who knows what the future holds?
Not me, thatās for sure.
SPECIAL DELIVERY!
Uhh, Bulk? What are you doing here?
SPECIAL DELIVERY!
Iām pretty sure heās delivering the mail, silly.
I can see that. I mean why? Heās not normally a mail pony.
I wear many hatsā¦
And youāre very good at all your jobs, Bulk!
Couldnāt ask for a better wing pony.
THANKS!
So whatās up, Bulk?
SPECIAL DELIVERY!
...Just give it here, Bulk.
OKAY!
Oooh, what is it, Cici? A new jet ski? A Lifetime supreme of lemon pudding cake? The lost griffon Idol of Boreas?
Itās clearly an envelope, Flits.
Psh, youād be surprised what you can fit in an envelope if you try hard enough.
Itāsā¦ a card. For the next set
But we already had our spoiler for the next set.
āWeāre sorry you got two copies of the same card last time. We must have made a mistake when sending them to you. Hope this makes up for it.ā
Huh. Well then.
Well, Cici, what is it?
Weird, is what it is. I mean just look at this card.
Oh hey look, Cici, your wish came true! Spikeās got Agile! What are the odds of that?
Eerie.
Also, I wished for an Agile Friend that could move other characters, not whatever this is...
Oh no! Cloudchaser, this is awful!
What? Whatās wrong?
With this cardā¦ you can get infinite points!
Thatās all youāre upset about?
But Cici, before, you couldnāt get more than 19 points, since the game ends the moment you have 15 or more points and the most points you could get at once was 5.
But if you make infinite copies of Spikeā¦
And whoās going to do that?
...then start a problem faceoff at his problem, the winner will get infinite points!
This is just awful!
Donāt you normally love doing stuff like that?
Well, yeah, but it was a fun little piece of trivia that 19 was the most points you could get.
Well, time to adapt to the times, I guess!
You got over that quicklyā¦
I was exaggerating for comedic effect! Yet another comedy technique Iām going to teach you!
And this card is honestly pretty neat!
I dunno. 1 power for 2 cost is really badā¦
But just think of all the possibilities, Cici!
You start a faceoff, unsure if youāll win or loseā¦ and then after flips, once you know youāll winā¦
Bam! You agile in Spike to score an extra point!
And if youād have lost, you just keep him at home so the opponent doesnāt score the extra point.
Seems like a lot of work, honestlyā¦
But yeah, okay. Iām intrigued. This is worth toying with.
Told ya!
Iām not expecting muchā¦
But eh, who knows? Itās definitely interesting.
And with that surprise spoiler out of the way, I think weāre done talking about Agile!
Unless Cici wants to say more mean things about it.
I wasnāt saying mean things...
Althoughā¦ there is one thing Iām wondering, Flits...
Oh? whatās that?
You never did tell me whatās more important for joke telling than emotion.
Timing!
Oh.
But wouldnāt the right time to tell me that have been right after I asked you before?
...Youāre hopeless, Cici.
Huh?
Nevermind. Later everypony!
Later.
