love how whoever created "A Place to Call Home" (Acorn TV) literally just watched "Downton Abbey" and went "what if this were exactly the same except it takes place in Australia in the 1950's and it's also 592934% more unhinged"

#i realize DA is a soap opera (lol the bickering matches my dad and i used to have about that when i started watching it when i was 16 and #refused to admit that *i* would *ever* watch a *soap opera*)#but APTCH is like. the ultimate soap opera (that i've ever seen anyway). it's like:#random murder ✅#meddling busybodies ✅#nefariously minded side characters ✅#spouse believed dead who turns up right before a wedding takes place✅#(tbf he didn't really *turn up*; he was found. but still)#everyone has life-altering drama happening literally all the time ✅#sweet dog who symbolizes Something ✅#everyone over the age of 25 is haunted by an extremely tragic past ✅#small town setting ✅#Murphy's Law is constantly being applied ✅#in case it's not clear: i love it 😭😭#a place to call home (acorn tv)#downton abbey
