Would you mind sharing your views on backpacking? 👀

Take all of this with a grain of salt because I'm mostly just bothered by backpacking content on Instagram.

I think the concept is fine. I'd actually like to do some backpacking some time.

But backpacking content, as well as most overland* content, always has a really weird vibe. It almost feels like cosplaying poverty if you know what I mean??

It's almost always young people from the so called "West" and almost always they're somewhere in South or Southeast Asia. The most popular backpacking destinations I'm seeing at the moment are Bali (exclusively that part of Indonesia for some reason), Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. The algorithm has recently also started showing me content from Pakistan, India and Afghanistan.

Since flights to these destinations are usually quite expensive, and many of these people stay abroad long enough that they might need a visa and that accommodation and food would also add up, it can be safely assumed these people have a certain amount of financial stability. Some of them are full time influencers too.

And while travelling with a backpack instead of a suitcase makes sense, and while you want to have an "authentic" experience, the vibe on those videos is often sooooo weird.

They're always like "I just spent 45h standing in a cramped bus without AC because it was only $1. I'm sleeping on the floor of this abandoned building that costs me $4 a night. I only carry 2 t-shirts with me, can't find a laundromat and I'm travelling for 3 months. Yesterday I got scammed and got food poisoning."

And I'm like why are you doing this? Is it really more "authentic" just because it's a foreign country? You can find the same uncomfortable situations and people who live like that all the time in your home country, but when you're abroad it's cool and authentic and #humbling #eatpraylove. Meanwhile there's also people in that same country you're backpacking through who, like, have a comparable standard of living you're used to. Your holiday doesn't have to be luxury resorts but it also doesn't have to be absolutely god awful.

And of course there's also the factor of adrenaline and stepping out of your comfort zone but with these videos it seems like they're almost glamorising having an awful time in an "exotic" country because that's what it's supposed to be like? I guess?

Idk I feel like I should get the opinion of someone living in one of those backpacking hotspots to make sure I'm not just getting annoyed at nothing but I think the vibe is off.

They're often interesting and I follow some of those people and I actually have some ideas for cool overland or long distance train trips but some of the accounts also have a weird vibe. Most of the ones I saw were men and they're like hitchhiking through some desert somewhere and I'm like oh this would feel so unsafe to me as someone perceived female. And obviously they also make lots of content where you know they have lots money because they've been travelling for several months but it has that same fake low budget backpacker vibe.

I hope this makes sense. I'm not sure it does.

At volcano, you find a cave you two can stay in. You two use the hat you took with you as a filter to for the water. So you two can drink. Then you two need to make a fire. You are going to collect some wood. You walk to some trees and take the lowest branches. It took you awhile to get some, but you found enough for a fire. Now you need to get the fire on. You decide to rub two stones against each other. It works, but it goes out pretty soon again. You decide to rip one of your sleeves. And use that to light with the stones. Then it keeps on burning and you have fire. You are proud of yourself. The night starts to fall. Priya suggests eating what you two found earlier. A guest has joined you two. A cute little monkey. You two share your food with it. Then the monkey leaves. Priya and you try to sleep, but you both can't. You go sit back up again. It is still crazy that you two are here together. You ask Priya is she could imagine this. Priya could image the together part, but not the jungle part. She never does things lightly. She meant what she said under the Gazebo. Priya doesn't want you to leave her life. You know that. You have always liked that about her. Even before the Gazebo scene. You never told Priya that. She asks you when you found out. Hello everyone.... I am Amisha, welcome to my new blog " Trip to MUSSOORRIE " .

The day was little rainy. 🌦 My family members decided to visit the kempty waterfall situated in Mussoorie in Uttrakhand ( India).

One of my siblings one who asked me to join in boating. I am very excited 🤗 and replied " Yes " .

All we got ready and search those things which was needed for boating. We carried water bottles, boating jacket etc.

Mussoorie is the most visited hill station in Uttrakhand. The weather of Mussoorie attracts tourists not only from India but all around the world. The mystic air and serene coolness of the place make it the loveliest hill station of Uttrakhand . It is also famous for destination wedding.

There are several ways to reach Mussoorie. It is only 30 km from Dehradun. Being the capital of Uttrakhand, Dehradun is well connected by trains, airways and roads. I went to Mussoorie with my family.

There is no direct bus or train to reach Mussoorie. Hiring one private cab from Haridwar, Uttrakhand for Rs 5,000.

Kempty waterfall and Ropeway

It is a perfect picnic spot for enjoying a gala time. It has milky streams of water falling from 41ft . There are a lot of stairs which lead to the actual spot where the water collects.

The water is extremely cold and can give you chills. Besides it a number of shops are available to provide you swimming clothes, floaters and can safely keep your valuables at lockers for a nominal charge. Nearby to it, there is a ropeway to explore the panorma view of Dehradun- Mussoorie trail and enjoy the elevated lush green Mountains, valleys and terrains. It costs Rs 80/person for such a beautiful ride.

CLOUD'S END

As the name suggest, clouds End is the geographical end of Mussoorie hill station. It is at a distance of 6 km from Mussoorie Mall Road and you can reach there by a local taxi available. It is a peaceful small trek with the breathtaking views of Aglar River Valley. During monsoon, it is often covered with clouds and fog. You can actually feel the picturesque clouds End.

helloo i'm from singapore and here's some things i can share about us! first off for food, you can literally find ANY food here, we have chinatown which is very popular during chinese new year for the many festive things they sell, we also have little india, which you can find many indian food places and shops,, we have golden mile , aka thai street, which sells tons of thai food etc!! you would be able to find hawker centres almost everywhere though, which would also have food of different cuisines you can get. it is also easily accessible to malaysia,, taking at least 30 mins to travel by bus depending on the crowd! as singapore is quite small, we don't have much places you can travel to when you have explored singapore, but travelling on a short trip to malaysia is always an option!

personally, the people i have meet and surrounded myself with are all very friendly, and no matter who you are, you won't be discriminated/look down on because of your race, since there are many different people who stay in singapore, so it is a common occurance to see other pocs and different people, especially in the central business district (CBD, aka where most of our more expensive tourist spots and hotels are located) of course if you search online, every once in a while you would see an auntie or uncle (we call all older women/men 'auntie' 'uncle' as a respect! no matter the language you speak :)) making racist remarks/being disrespectful, but i can assure you most of us aren't like that!

tourist spots wise, a popular place to visit would be a nearby island sentosa!! theres hotels there but its on the higher end side as its basically an island,, and our attractions such as SEA aquarium/Universal Studios is located there! you can also access islands and batam from our jetties!

overall, i think singapore is quite nice to live in, especially since i do part time jobs, and the pay is enough to sustain me because you can easily get affordable food from hawker centres and coffee shops, unlike our title, clean and green, we're not very clean but we're trying! especially because of the very strict fines and law here, and littering can literally cost you $10,000 😭 and theres cameras almost everywhere, so it is quite safe, though still dangerous once in a while
