omg so many idk if i can list them all here but first and foremost starplus soap dramas like “kabhi saas bhi bahu thi” “shararat” “kahani ghar ghar ki” “sath nibhana saathiya” (affectionately called gopi bahu wala drama). also Pakistani tv comedies like “annie ki aygi baraat” “kake ki ayegi baraat” “bulbulay” and “quddusi sahab ki bewah”. The urdu dub of a telenovela called “Isabel - meri akhri mohabbat” (El Cuerpo del Deseo). Karan Johan’s early bollywood films like K3G etc.

Pretty much all horror movies but Chucky is good fun, the scary movies trilogy, Rupaul’s drag race seasons 1-9 (AS2 as well) , idk if sam reimi’s spiderman movies count but his horror stuff is pretty campy. oh no, i do not keep in touch with FT except from what crosses my eyes on social media while doom scrolling. my "criticism", which I believe isn't the right word here cuz I am merely stating my observations and comments, is still based on my experience of watching the first 4 episodes of the show and then seeing the fandom's reaction (love) for this show to this day. it's not hard to gauge on which track the show is going by some of the comments that I have seen. i had said in an ask some days ago, there are certain tropes and plotlines that tell you their destination right from the first step. FT has always been predictable in that manner. if whatever I say sounds like I am speaking from a place of having watched the show then I am...flattered? matlab aise hi baal safed nahin kiye hain xD

bhayee dekho saaf si baat hai - when you write a story of a clumsy, unapologetically flawed, immature heroine and have her pair up with an uptight, serious man who ends up falling for the girl despite the exasperation she initially caused him, there's only so many options you can have for the story to go on. either the writers will prolong her immaturity and clumsiness to the point of making her annoying. or her immaturity and clumsiness will end up causing a conflict that will have the couple temporarily break up until she matures up or he accepts her regardless of her immaturity anyway cuz pyaar above all. the writers are just not brave enough to play on the serious consequences of these "flaws" of the characters. it's cool to have a kdrama coded love story but even in kdramas with its 16 hour long run time, it often gets boring and annoying if serious character development doesn't take place. here you are extending the runtime to around 40 hours over the course of 2 seasons while keeping things as close to the base that made the show/characters popular in the first place without organically building on the story and the characters and then expecting NO complains or criticism to take place? c'mon. phir toh Bulbulay wala sitcom bana lo. this is not how a DRAMA regardless of what genre can work.

it's not rocket science. this is just experience talking. Suno Chanda 1 was MASSIVELY popular but do you see anyone talking about SC2 in the same way? no. because that tried to repeat the conflicts and the jokes that had been done and dusted in s1. it had to retcon what made s1 special because the makers wanted to stick to the safety of tried and tested formula of s1 (that and also how ArJiya were practically sidelined in the drama). sure, maybe FT2 was needed unlike SC2 cuz FT2 has story left that warrants the need of a sequel but again..you need to up the ante or risk falling in the pits of fanservice. and FT2 mostly IS fanservice. so if you're not already a die hard fan of the show, yeah..your attention will be caught by the flaws and plotholes and you wouldn't be as forgiving of them as others are.

Oh gosh, I appreciate you and your words because i'm still here like 'WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??'

I have this theory - hear me out, and it may be me being delusional and super hopeful- but what if Mahir is testing the world around them? I mean at first he did it because he didn't want to refuse his mother's last wish (since she has cancer and all) but maybe he's also testing Narmeen? To see if she'll stick with him. Maybe he's testing the people around him, Mehru included.

Because Mehru had HOPE in her marriage with Mahir. I refuse to believe that in tomorrow's episode, Mahir will literally fail us all.

He told Mehru he doesn't care about what the world thinks. He fought for her and she for him. Narmeen never fought for Mahir. What if he's willing to give up all the money -not because he doesn't want the world to think he used Mehru for money- but to test Narmeen to see if he went back to being the way he was, if she would fight for him.

The preview of the last ep did not look promising 😭 but also yess maybe he's testing Mehru to check if she will be sad if he leaves/will miss him or not. I hate the way he's treating Narmeen all sweet when he's always been a savage guy and so should've gotten revenge. Idk I feel like he actually likes Narmeen and the words of people did get to his head. Like even IF he's testing, he's still treating Mehru very shitty. So at this point I actually want Mehru to kick him out. I hate the last minute/episode redemption Pakistani dramas tend to do.

The actor who plays Mahir in this drama ->Bilal Abbas never misses a good script so you can choose to watch dramas he has starred in. Also Saba Qamar chooses really good dramas too and I love her acting.

WHAT IS DRAMA BULBULAY ABOUT?

NABEEL IN COMEDY DRAMA BULBULAY

Apart from Momo, the other leading characters include Nabeel who is Momo’s Son. The character or Nabeel is played by Nabeel himself. Nabeel’s wife in the drama is Khubsurat. The role of khubsurat is played by Ayesha Omer.

Another leading character is Momo’s Husband Mehmood Sahib. This character is played by Mehmood Aslam.

THE PLOT OF THE DRAMA BULBULAY

The drama starts when Nabeel’s old friend Ahmed asks him to take care of his apartment as he is moving abroad with his wife. Nabeel takes advantage of this and starts living in the apartment as the owner. He also rents one room to Mehmood Sahib too.

On the other side, khubsurat is shown running away from her house because her father is forcefully marrying her.

THE FUN COMES FROM THEM LIVING TOGETHER

Khoobsurat arrives in the same apartment where Nabeel is living. She asks for her friend Samia who is Ahmed’s wife. Now, she also moves into the apartment and starts living with Nabeel and Mehmood.

After some days, Nabeel’s mother Momo arrives surprisingly to see her son. Nabeel asks Khubsurat to act as if she is their maid because Mumtaz will not approve of her living with the men.

Mumtaz decides to get Khubsurat and Nabeel married. Meanwhile, she also develops feelings for Mehmood who asks Momo to marry him.

AND THEY GET MARRIED

These 4 get married on the same day and Khubsurat’s father Siddiqui also unhappily approves his daughter’s marriage.

Soon after the marriage ceremony, Ahmed calls Nabeel and tells that he has found a family that will move in the apartment.

The families get really tensed that now they have to find a new house in such a short time. Khubsurat’s father arranges a new house for them and also pays the rents for that house. He also finds a job for Nabeel but Nabeel is a lazy person who did not join the job. The family lives on the money sent by Khubsurat’s father each month. The men of the house do nothing.

All the other episodes are all about the issues faced by the family. The couples go to Dubai without letting each other know. But there, they see each other. Later, Momo gets misplaced and they all find her together.

THEY COME BACK TO PAKISTAN

Soon after their return to Pakistan, the ladies get pregnant. On 100th episode Momo gives birth to a son named Sona and Khubsurat gives birth to a girl and names her Chaandi.

After that in all the episodes either there is a conflict between Momo and Khubsurat, between the couples, or within the couples.

All the times the family is being robbed, looted, or some fraud comes in and takes away everything. Sometimes, Nabeel and Mehmood also change their characters and try to con someone but are caught at the end and get beaten and jailed.

SOCIAL ISSUES GENERATE THE COMEDY

Other issues include the weird diseases caught by any of them or someone among the family being kidnapped etc.

The main thing that adds to the comedy side of this drama is Momo’s memory. She tends to forget almost everything including even her own name. Her poor memory becomes the cause of most of the problems this family faces.

Over all, the drama is one epic sit com of the country with highest ratings. The special editions of the drama also get aired on Eids, Valentine days, Ramadan and on some other national days too.
