Singapore
Bukit Timah resident voices concern over neighbours' banana plants after monkeys spotted in estate - So people can't even grow whatever plants they like now?! He can always move away if he doesn't like it! The problem isn't with residents growing banana plants or whatever; it's with our government constantly cutting down more forest resulting in massive habitat loss & forcing wild animals to venture into urban surroundings in search of food!!! 😡
Private home prices moderated further in Q2 on lower sales & greater buyer resistance
Man stabbed to death in Yishun flat - a 49-year-old man was arrested for his murder
Health
Is taurine supplementation really good for you? - there are negatives as well as positives, so you need to consider if the upsides are worth the downsides!
Can foods really change your hormones? - "influencers" aren't a reliable source of information & if you believe what they say, you deserve whatever happens to you 🤷🏻♀️
Transport
Toyota cars a popular target for Johor crime syndicates - they can steal them in <30 sec
Technology
Singapore: Why tray-return robots have disappeared from food courts - another dumb idea encouraged by our brilliant government to save $$$ using technology instead ends up wasting more of it
Pets
Yet another case involving a dog being strangled to death on its leash after being left alone on grooming table - some people are just retarded & shouldn't be left in charge of anything, let alone other living beings, because they have no brains
Nature
^ Sharks in Brazilian waters test positive for cocaine - narcotics are so prevalent there, it's hopeless
Zoos concerned as gorillas become hooked on smartphone videos - no thanks to visitors constantly showing their devices to them!
Science
Boeing's Starliner stuck at ISS until at least August, NASA admits - why are people still using Boeing stuff?!
Travel
Tourist fined $12K for flying drone over Marina Bay during Singapore vacation - he knew drone use in certain areas here was subject to regulation but he didn't care ...maybe he's yet another CCP spy 😬
Changi Airport passenger traffic in 1st half of this year hit 99.3% of pre-pandemic levels

Bukit Timah Monkey Man from Singapore.
The creature is often cited as a forest-dwelling hominid or primate, and is also accounted for as being immortal; however, its exact identity remains unknown, and its existence disputed. Documentation of the BTM is sparse and scattered.
The BTM is said to be hominid-like, greyish in colour, about 1,75 (5 feet 10) in height with a bipedal gait. All sightings have been centred upon the Bukit Timah region.
Alleged sightings of the animal are rare. Records mainly come from Malay folklore, accounts from Japanese soldiers in World War II, and occasional unconfirmed reports from local residents. The first claimed sighting is said to have occurred in about 1805; the most recent was in 2007.
The first report of the creature came in 1805, when a Malay elder claimed to have seen an upright-walking, monkey-faced creature in the Bukit Timah area. Japanese soldiers also reported sightings of the creature during World War II.
In 2007, a series of sightings were reported in the Singapore tabloid, The New Paper, has since featured the cryptid on its papers, gathering accounts from a number of witnesses.
The Chinese-language paper Shin Min Daily News also reported on the BTM in 2008, stating that the Monkey Man would appear after dark in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The paper described the creature as having the face of a monkey but walking upright like a man; it dispatched a journalist to comb for evidence, but the expedition proved futile. The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve official take provided at that point in time was that people were mistaking the common long-tailed (aka crab-eating) macaque monkeys for the Monkey Man.
In late 2020, the Bukit Timah monkey man was allegedly spotted by a night hiker, an event which was extensively covered in local media reports.

also keep an eye out for the Bukit Timah Monkey Man.
any singapore bug recommendations? i've got like 6-8 hours to wander around the city this july
uhh Everything… if you mean sites, anything in the central catchment is good, scan the handrails for jumping spiders and fun ants plus whatever else is on the move, personally Thomson nature park is my favorite site because it’s not huge but has a nice shift from semi cultivated roadside flowering plants to some nice shady forest and a bit of fieldy habitat too. there’s pseudoscorpion colonies in the fence postskeep an eye out for dead ants at a weird angle

IN SEARCH OF THE BUKIT TIMAH MONKEY MAN
Singapore is a highly urbanized city state in a constant flux of (re)development. Without a rural hinterland the concept of nature can evoke a sense of longing. Longing for a provincial past. A past that most of the people didn’t live through and realistically they know that they can’t get back. An achievable longing that haunts urban dwellers in all sense of the word. Inhabitants who are, in this context, uniquely and ironically surrounded by built-up greeneries of recreational parks and vertical gardens. It is on this premise that NADA and Brandon Tay aim to aurally and visually mine through the most untouched area on the main island, the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

Cryptid of the Day: Bukit Timah Monkey Man
Description; 1805, a Malay elder claimed to have seen an up-right walking, monkey-faced creature in the Bukit Timah area of Singapore. During World War II, Japanese soldiers reported encounters with the Monkey Man while stationed there. After a large gap between sightings, the creature was seen again 2007, featured in the tabloid newspaper The New Paper. Among the sightings reported was one from a 48 year old taxi driver, who claimed to have hit a child sized monkey in the middle of the night. It was also seen by a 29 year old housewife near a bus stop during a cold, foggy day. She saw the creature ravishing through a rubbish bin, and described it as grey, hairy and ran on two legs. It was last seen in late 2020, when the Monkey Man was allegedly seen by a night hiker and covered by numerous online outlets.

Bukit Timah Monkey Man?!
Hahah, I didn't even know about this until it was mentioned on Bones.
But can you believe it? Bones! Singapore was mentioned on Bones (!) - one of the most-watched and freakishly awesome shows of all time. :D
Aww, I like how we are more and more recognised by popular culture these days. :)
Here's where Singapore has been mentioned on American TV hitherto:
Glee - Sue talks about how Singapore still allows the caning of students
V - One of their mother ships were hovering over the Esplanade!
Anddd, of course, Bones - where a cryptozoologist talks about the sighting of 'one of the most elusive cryptids: the Bukit Timah Monkey Man', apparently 'an immortal hominid that lives in the forests of Singapore'.
So, LOL.
