Doesn't matter what it is in life that you see as a goal. There will always be obstacles and opposition. It's either you learn to overcome them... I have been working on cleaning up my handstands and my strict handstand push ups. My 17 years of cheerleading and gymnastics have caused my lower back to be hyper mobile. I tend to arch my back in my handstands/handstand walks/HSPUs...not sexy...this causes my strict handstand push ups to look like a push up or bench press and I'm sick of it! I have taken a step back to work on strict HSPU progressions so I can clean it up. Today was my second day going over these progressions: 1. Headstand fall to plank 2. Headstand fall/push to long plank 3. Headstand push up to wall at push up/wall walk distance (stomach to wall) 4. Headstand push up to wall at 1/2 distance (stomach to wall) 5. Headstand push up to wall as close as possible (stomach to wall) 6. Flip around/back to wall, headstand push up (video)...I couldn't do this one on my first practice day! There are a few important things to think about: 1. To initiate movement you must shift your center of mass (hips) over your base of support (hands) 2. Keep your chin tucked to your chest and look for your toes. If you let your head drop back, you will end up arching your back and doing the bench press version that I'm trying to get away from. 3. Push your head through your arms so your feet fall to the wall at the top of the handstand. It is really cool to see stepping back and practicing progressions paying off! Next step is the strict freestanding HSPU! #TAGymnastics #freestyle #freestyleconnection #crossfit #handstandpushup #strict #progressions #progress #stepbacktomoveforward #cleanitup #BuildAStrongFoundation #unitedbymotion

I am so excited that I can use my arms again! Even though weights feel significantly heavier and bodyweight movements feel a bit harder, I was still able to knock out a set of 8 and a set of 7 unbroken muscle ups today! After watching this video, I see there are a couple things I can clean up to make my muscle ups flow more efficiently: 1. I can pull the rings closer to my hips instead of my chest. 2. After the second kip/hip extension, if I pull my heels to my butt I will create more tension which will cause my sit up/transition to be a lot faster...like a GHD sit up. This will also help me lift my hips up, putting me in more of a push up position on top of the rings which makes the dip significantly easier. To correct these issues, it will be important for me to take a step back and break down the movement into a few progressions: 1. Push ups- focus on keeping elbows over wrists 2. Hips to bar/rings *these first 2 will help reinforce pulling to my hips instead of my chest 3. Banded transitions: sit on a band in between the low rings in an extended position with hips close to the rings, pull heels to butt and sit up fast over the rings. Catch the dip with hips high and elbows over wrists (just like proper push up position). This just goes to show that even if you can do a movement, even fairly well, it is important to continue to build a solid foundation! P.S. I love my new @strike_mvmnt interval shoes! They are so light and mold to my foot well! #muscleup #progressions #BuildAStrongFoundation #freestyle #TAGymnastics #crossfit #ShiftConnectFlow #LearnToMoveToMoveToLearn #unitedbymotion @freestyleconnection @crossfitcentral @teamcentral
