Chpni x reader anniversary
Toni and Cheryl were the great love story of riverdale high.Through all the varchie and bughead breakups and all of the murders and serial killers the couple had stayed strong. And tomorrow was the 1 year anniversary of when they got together. The 1 year anniversary or the movie date you had tricked them into. Which is why you felt so much pressure to give them the perfect day.
You had spent months planning everything out.
-First they'd get a breakfast in bed with all their favourites
- Then smithers would drive them to the bookstore (a romantic private date would be set up)
-Then they will be taken to the football field where I had planned to do a routine with the Vixens in Cheryl and Tonis honour.
- Then they will be taken to a picnic by sweetwater River where there will be easels and paints.
-And finally they will return to thistlehouse where I will have set up a private screening of love Simon under the stars (the movie they watched on their first date)
The thing I was currently stuck on was what to get them as a present.Veronica was coming over soon to help me brainstorm but as of yet I had nothing. Cheryl and Toni had gone to pops for a pre anniversary date so I was currently pacing up and down the stairs. Something Cheryl constantly scolds me for as I could get hurt. Honestly I'm not the clumsy
CRASH
Oops
Okie maybe I am
My head was pounding as I opened my eyes to be met by the harsh light on the ceiling of the hospital room.
I could vaguely hear Veronicas voice calling my name and could see flickers of raven hair above me as my vision became less blurry.
"V? What happened?" I croaked. My throat felt rough.
Veronica handed me a glass of water as she began to explain
"You fell down the stairs you clumsy idiot." She replied rolling her eyes.
"The doctor said you have a concussion ,a broken ankle and a sprained wrist. They want to keep you until tomorrow night for observation." She explained
"What tomorrow night no I can't it's Toni and Cheryl's anniversary tomorrow." You replied trying to sit up but Veronica held you down.
" Y/n your hurt I'm sure they will be more worried about that then they're anniversary." She said shaking her head.
"Wait have you told them yet? " You asked frantically.
"No you know they'd be down here already if I had. I waited a little until you woke up so as to not make them more worried then they needed to be." She explained.
"You can't tell them" You said quickly.
"What are you insane they'll kill me! And then you" Veronica replied.
It was true you had learned from past experience to tell Cheryl or Toni when your hurt or ill (Chapter 7)
"I know, I know but they won't enjoy there day otherwise. Come on V I've already booked and arranged everything. All you'd have to do is help smithers set up the movie night under the stars and I've already got everything for it. I promise I won't let them blame you at all. Please V they do everything for me . Let me do this for them. "I ranted giving Veronica the puppy dog eyes.
"Ok fine I won't tell them. Well have send smithers over with a breakfast from pops and ill go make sure everything is set up at the bookstore and the house tomorrow. But what about the Vixens routine?" She asked still unsure.
"Ugh I forgot. Ummmm just show them the video from last practise it can be a surprise wirh breakfast." I proposed.
"Okie this might actually work. But if they get suspicious for a second."She warned
"Yh yh you can tell them" I agreed.
"And I'm telling them straight after love Simon.Because you should be leaving the hospital around then so if they want to they can come pick you up."
Veronica agreed.
"Yesssss okie thank you Veronica I love youuuuu" I said leaning over and hugging her before wincing in pain at my ribs.
"Woah what was that are you OK?"She asked concerned.
"No I'm good don't worry probably just a bruise" I said
"Now I gotta get online and look for a present for Cheryl and Toni. Thank god for next day delivery." I laughed grabbing my phone from beside the bed. Ignoring the pain in my side.
The next day I was woken up by my phone ringing . I winced as I got up the pain had now spread across my chest. I looked at my phone and winced. It was Toni. Oh no they knew. I also saw a text from Veronica.
V - I TOLD THEM YOUR SETTING UP FOR TODAY
I sighed in relief before picking up the phone and smiled through the pain as I answered the phone.
"Hey Toni"
"Hey nerd, your on speaker with me and Cher." She explained
"Hey Tiny" I heard Cheryl say.
"Are you guys having a good day?" I asked trying to hide the pain in my voice.
"The best. The breakfast was amazing babe and Veronica told us you've planned surprises for us today and they showed us the video. Which by the way Cheryl is pretty pissed about. "Toni laughed.
"What why?" I asked.
"Well excuse me shortie but I seem to remember you telling me that you cant dance for the life of you and that one time I tried to get you to audition me and Toni had to drag you there kicking and screaming and then you sat on the floor reading the whole time" Cheryl said . I could hear Toni laughing in the background.
"Yh but this was for you guys its different and no I'm not auditioning for the Vixens this year." I said before Cheryl had a chance too.
" No audition needed babe and we'll see. We have our ways." Cheryl said. I could hear the smile in her voice.
"Whatever. Anyway you guys should go you need to get ready for the first surprise. " I laughed.
"You really didn't have to do any of this you know" Toni chimed in.
"Of course I do I love you guys. "
"Awww we love you too nerd. Will you be there?" Toni asked as I heard them moving around.
"Uh no I can't sorry I have to set up some stuff for tonight." I replied.
"Fine but we'll see you definitely see you tonight right. Don't think we won't drag you kicking and screaming again. Especially if your overworking yourself." She reied sternly.
"Yh I know don't worry and yh you'll see me tonight " I relied giggling. As we all said our goodbyes.
Third person pov
Toni and Cheryl had spent all day being driven around by smithers to all of the surprises y/n had planned. It was arguably the best day if their life. Except for the fact y/n hadn't been there. For their anniversary present y/n had ordered them heart necklaces with a T for Cheryl and a C for Toni.
They were currently watching love Simon whilst Veronica was pacing around the house stressed. She hadn't been able to get in contact with y/n since she had spoken to Toni and Cheryl this morning. She was going to kill her is she was just trying to dodge telling Cheryl and toni about her accident.
Outside Toni and Cheryl were cuddled up on the grass watching the movie, reminiscing about their first date.
"Remember the race when we first met?" Cheryl asked smiling.
"How could I forget? Out of the way cha cha. I was born for this moment" Toni imitated laughing as Cheryl smacked her shoulder laughing.
"I'll never be able to thank y/n enough for setting us up on that movie date." Cheryl smiled.
"Hey next week will technically be the anniversary of us three becoming friends. You know that first time we held her hostage on movie night " Toni laughed.
"Oh my gosh TT we have to do something special."
"Yh of course. We'll spoil her rotten. We could have a marvel movie marathon ooh and get her a necklace that matches ours." Toni said
"Ooh and get her anything she wants from the bookstore. Ooh and take her to the carnival it'll be in town next week." Cheryl said getting excited.
"Definitely. Speaking of that little nerd, where is she?" She asked as Veronica walked out to them looking pale and shaking.
"Guys we have to go." Veronica said tears prickling her eyes.
"What what's wrong " Cheryl said grabbing Tonis hand.
Veronica took a deep breath before explaining.
" Yesterday Y/n fell down that stairs. I came over to help plan today and I found her unconscious so I brought her to the hospital and everything was fine. She only had a few minor injuries and they wanted to keep her in till tomorrow night. So she convinced me to help with today and then we'd tell you now."
Toni and Cheryl were overcome with worry. They'd already stood up and made they're way over to Veronica ready to speed to the hospital. Cheryl ran into the house to get the car keys
"Why the hell wouldn't she tell us this, why the hell wouldn't you tell us this? Ugh I'm gonna kill her." Toni exclaimed
"I can't find the damn keys." Cheryl yelled from inside the house. You could hear the tears in her voice. Toni ran inside and Veronica followed after them. Stopping them once they reached the car.
"Guys wait I need to tell you something else. " Veronica said taking a deep breath and raking the keys from Cheryl's hand.
"Well y/n hadn't been answering her phone all day. And well. And the hospital just called. Something happened ... "
3 months later
"And your Lockers just down here." Betty explained, as her and Veronica were giving the new girl a tour of riverdale high
They stood at her locker explaining her timetable before the girl got shoved to the side. Toni storming past her.
"Sorry about her." Veronica sighed.
" That was Toni Topaz. Just try to avoid her." Betty explained.
"And that is Cheryl Blossom" Betty said as she nodded towards the herd of Vixens walking down the hallway. Cheryl leading them.
The HBIC walked up to the three with a fake smile.
"Betty, miss another Vixens rehearsal and your off the team." She stated.
" What Cheryl she told you she was visiting her sister in hospital." Veronica defended.
" Was I talking to you?" Cheryl sassed turning to storm off but stopping as she saw the new girl stood their. The bitchy look dropping from her face. She looked at the small girl holding her books. Going pale as if she'd seen a ghost. Then quickly shook off any look of emotion and stalked down the hallway.
"What was that about?" She asked. Turning to Betty and Veronica. Who both shared a look of sadness before replying.
"Okie so last year. Cheryl and Toni were the it couple of riverdale high. And they kind of adopted our friend y/n into their relationship. She was Cheryl's best friend and is the one that actually set then up. They were a trio. You couldn't have two without the other." Veronica explained. Tears coming to her eyes as she stopped to take a breath . Betty putting her hand on Veronicas shoulder before continuing for her.
"Well a few months ago. Y/n had an accident. On Cheryl and Tonis anniversary as well. Veronica found her and took her to the hospital and everything seemed fine but we'll. She passed away the next day. Toni and Cheryl got there just in her final moments and she died in their arms."
Betty explained taking a deep breath.
"You kind look like her. I guess thats why Cheryl got upset when she saw you. Maybe try to avoid her and Toni." Betty suggested before quickly directing the girl to her next class and consoling Veronica.
And so as the greatest friendship Cheryl and Toni had ever been a part of died. So did their Love story.

Is this not a cute (albeit perhaps slightly creepy art style) double date? 💙💛

31 for bughead please😊
Thanks for your request!
31. When’s the last time we went on a date?
It was late, but neither of them could sleep. They were cuddled together under a pile of blankets, as though to block out anything and everything that they would have to deal with.
“When’s the last time we went on a date?” Jughead suddenly questioned, staring at her hand in his.
“Well, you were gone for a while. And before that we were helping save Archie and dealing with G&G. So…” Betty paused. “I honestly can’t remember.”
“Alright then. Let’s do this.”“Um… Right now?” Betty took a glance at the clock. 11:42.
“Give me ten minutes and then come downstairs. Dress warm.” Jughead winked, and before Betty could ask any questions, he was gone.
Stretching, she slowly left the warmth of the covers behind in search for cute winter clothes. She pulled her hair into a ponytail, threw on a coat with a fur-lined hood, and walked into the kitchen where Jughead was waiting for her. He opened the front door to reveal his motorcycle with a picnic basket on the handlebar.
“Your chariot awaits,” he joked. After hopping on, Jughead drove them to a small secluded area. He set out a blanket and placed three candles in the center. He passed Betty a grilled cheese sandwich and a can of cherry cola.
“A midnight picnic,” she smiled, the flame of the candlelight danced in her eyes.
“Best I could do this late. I’ll take you somewhere nicer tomorrow.”
“Jug.” She scooted closer to him. “This is absolutely perfect.”

Sweet Pea Dating a Witch S/O Headcanons Pt.2
AN: This is for the one person who encouraged me. :D Thank you for the feedback. I hope this hits the same. I feel like it could’ve been better but I am a perfectionist so :/. The hold this man has on me. Again I can do more :).
Part 1 |
Sweet Pea buying you candles he thought you’d like.
One smelled like cotton candy
Picnics and swimming days (for cleansing) at Sweetwater River
You’d beg him to go canoeing to collect river water ofc. (not really)
Sex magic and money magic (with his consent)
He’d get you the pheromone perfume (yk the one from the tik tok videos)
He tried to make it but failed so he bought it instead.
This man will go absolutely wild when you’d wear it.
He’ll also get your certain perfumes with specific scents (iykyk).
Helps you organize your witchcraft books.
Everyone in Riverdale and Greendale casts you out for being a witch.
No one would dare saying anything to your face
You could do baneful magic in your sleep
Sweet Pea helps you collect thorns and pine needles to hex a certain Blossom after she calls him a brainless Serpent. AND she broke Toni’s heart soooooo................
Full moon “rituals” (Sweets just wants to have sex under the full moon).
He’d for sure help you research for your grimoire
“Uh, babe, I did a tarot pull. Are you okay?”
He’s still willingly listening to your rants on your craft.
You have a cord cutting ceremony for a toxic ex friend, Sweet Pea is your rock and holds your hand the whole time.
You have to include him in all your protection spells.
It’s the law
His trailer having the most comforting energy but nothing compare with being with Sweet Pea.
Honestly the most powerful couple in Riverdale; the energy - immaculate. Bughead and Varchie could and will never compete.
For Halloween he’d want to go as Morticia and Gomez Addams.

i am looking through my MANY abandoned fic docs and found that in July 2019 i started writing a speculative s4 fic wherein the core 4 did witness and/or commit a murder (unclear which) and decided the only way to evade suspicion was to set up a fake betty/archie hookup at a party so someone (probably reggie) could catch them in the act and tell everyone and then the core 4 would blow up and go their separate ways...
if anyone’s interested here is what i wrote, may as well share since i’m not going to finish it - the b/a plan is not explicit here, it’s just what was in my mind, this is actually very bughead friendly:
And so they do it.
They burn their clothes, and Jughead’s beanie. They slip their shivering bodies into the swimming hole in silence, one by one. They scrub at their arms, their necks, their faces until their skin aches.
Until the blood is gone, untraceable.
-
They graduate. Betty sweats beneath her polyester gown in the midday sunshine, squinting up at the podium as Ethel Muggs gives her valedictorian speech. She throws her cap into the air with the other seniors. She smiles for photo after photo, with people she likes, people she tolerates. She signs yearbooks with a steady hand. She poses with J.B., and tries not to cry when the younger girl loops her skinny arms around Betty’s middle.
She wraps her own arms around the best friends she’s ever had and thinks I love you, I love you, I love you.
She kisses Jughead goodbye in the parking lot, sweet and soft, and says, “I’ll see you tonight.”
-
The party is well underway by the time Betty arrives at Reggie’s house. The thump of the bass is so loud she can hear it from the sidewalk, but there’s almost zero chance the cops will show up. Reggie does pretty much whatever he wants now that his father owns a stake in the prison.
Finding Jughead is easy: he’s seated halfway up the staircase, frowning at something on his phone. She settles onto the step beside him and presses a kiss to his cheek.
His eyes soften as he takes her in. “Hey. I missed you.”
Betty’s told him that she wishes he wouldn’t say things like that anymore; they only make it harder. But she presses her nose to his shoulder, then lifts her head, smiles. “We should find Veronica and Archie.”
Their friends are playing beer pong in the backyard, laughing, smiling, shit-talking. Veronica spies them first. “B!” She claps her hands together and waves, Archie’s arm slung over her shoulders.
Archie catches Betty’s eye, and she forces herself to stare back. It’s a look she used to dream about, lying in her bed at night, gazing out her window to the darkened room across the way.
Tonight, it makes her stomach hurt.
It takes only as long as they lock eyes for her to make a decision. “Let’s go,” she says into Jughead’s ear, her voice low as she tugs on his hand.
His brow creases. “That’s not part of the plan.”
“I don’t care.” She can feel the panic beginning to rise tight in her throat, tries to swallow it down. “It’s early. We can come back, I just – I don’t want to be here. I don’t want us to be here.”
His thumb sweeps a slow circle against her palm as he looks back to their friends. Archie and Veronica are fully focused on their game again, Archie’s tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth as he aims his next shot. They’re both so much better than her at playing pretend.
Jughead squeezes her hand in acquiescence. “Where do you want to go?”
-
He drives them to a spot along the banks of the Sweetwater, just a mile or so north of town, where they’ve had picnics, spent afternoons stretched out on a blanket, reading in the sun. (There are so few places they have left with only good memories attached.)
They make their way to the water’s edge hand in hand, and slip off their shoes, letting their feet dangle into the water. It’s too cold, but Betty forces herself to keep her feet beneath the surface. To keep feeling.
Her hair is loose around her shoulders tonight, and Jughead tucks a piece behind her ear, his fingers warm where they brush against her neck. “What are we doing here, Betty?”
She nearly laughs. Everything, every single fucking thing has been wrong since that night in the woods. And there’s no end to it in sight. Just the rest of their lives, unfolding along roads they never meant to take.
Met with her silence, he tries again. “What are we doing here?”
She thinks it should be obvious. Maybe it is.
“I don’t want to do it, Jug,” she admits, her voice a near-whisper. “I don’t want to leave you.”
His hand falls heavy on her shoulder. “Betts…”
“What if we left?” She twists around, to where his motorcycle sits, about a hundred paces behind them. “What if we just ran away?”
Jughead drags his hands down his face. “Then we look suspicious. Then everybody wonders why Betty and Jughead disappeared on graduation night instead of going off to college like they planned. Then Archie and Veronica are left to fill in the blanks.”
She knows he’s right. She knew what he’d say before he even said it. They’ve been through it a million times, the four of them, teasing out every possible course of action to its logical, probable end. They’ve agreed: the only solution is the first one, the one that sprung to Betty’s mind as she stood half-naked in a clearing in Fox Forest, her bloodstained hands trembling as she shed her clothes and fed them to the fire.
But now it’s actually happening, and she feels like she can’t breathe.
“What if we just waited?” She shakes her head, stares out across the water. “It doesn’t have to be tonight. There’ll be other parties.”
“Then we risk losing our shot.” His fingertips find her chin, nudging gently. “Betty, look at me.”
She does.
“I love you.”
#if i somehow manifested the 4x17 plotline via a fic i never finished...#my bad guys#truly my bad#lolol#bughead#fic

Hi! I was in the middle of a cute Bughead one shot where Jughead and Betty go on a date and have a picnic! They find Kevin there but I lost it when I went back to reading it! I’ve tried to find it in the tags but I need your help!
Hrm. Nothing is jumping out at me regarding a picnic and Kevin. Maybe someone else remembers this one. Anyone?

Bughead & Friends Drabble Challenge - Day 4
Echo
She was at his grave again, looking at what the town wrote on her father's tombstone. She felt so conflicted. He was the black hood, a cold-blooded killer, but he was her father. The man she grew up with…
Minutes past, maybe hours, she wasn't sure, and then she heard a slight echo in the silence.
"Betty!" she would recognize his voice anywhere, softness she grew fond of.
He was looking for her, knew she would be here. she felt his arms circle her from the back, engulfing her and she leaned into his touch.
"I'm here Betty, I'm here".
Midnight at the Swimming Hole
The swimming hole became tradition. Every anniversary they would come here, celebrate the special date their own way, just the two of them, no interruptions.
Jughead laid the blanket on the ground and Betty placed the picnic basket down.
Both sitting down close, bodies entangled together, mouths kissing softly, whispering sweet nothings to each other.
Their love knew no boundaries. They knew they were lucky enough to find what everyone is looking for, and they were not going to let go.
When midnight struck, they jumped into the water, goofing around like two normal teenagers they wished they could be.
An Unconventional Way of Saying I Love You
Betty shut her locker, only to find Jughead standing right there. She jumped, books falling.
"Shit, sorry Betts!", he panicked, bending to pick everything up.
"Hi Juggie", she smiled at him.
"I wanted to ask you… would you... maybe... if you have nothing better to do...", he was blushing, making him look even cuter, all flustered.
"Can I take you to prom?" he looked so adorable.
"Yes, Jughead, I would love that!" finally, he made a move.
"Really? Oh I love you!" realizing what he said, he looked down, and Betty pecked his cheek softly. "I love you too Jughead".

Camp Bughead Day Six: Staycation
Moodboard: Rachel | Writing: Rachel & Jen
Betty sighs as she tries to adjust her sitting position. She is almost at the nine month mark of her pregnancy and each day is worse than the one before. It’s also at this point that her and Jughead’s overseas trip that was planned for over a year was supposed to be, and she hates that they’re having to stay home. It isn’t that she doesn’t love that she’s about to have her first child, but it’s a disappointment all the same.
But, as usual, her husband comes up with the best plan for them on this dismal day. They’re staying home, maybe they’ll venture out later if she’s feeling up to it, and they’re going to make the most of their last days as a childless couple.
“I hate that word, Betts,” Jug says as he walks through the room with an armful of pillows and blankets. She raises her eyebrow in confusion and he continues, “Staycation. I understand the sentiment, but it’s not a vacation.”
“That’s why the word ‘stay’ is in it,” she notes, turning her attention back to her book.
“What’s so different about a staycation,” he asks as he drops the load to the ground. “We technically stay at home all the time.”
She tries to not roll her eyes but it slips anyways. And at the reminder of them not going to Europe, tears begin to build and blurs her vision. This wasn’t how they were supposed to spend the week and it frustrates her that she feels like a whale. Betty squeezes her eyes tight, a tear running down her cheek before a calloused thumb brushes it away.
“Baby, I’m sorry. You know that’s not how I meant it.”
“I know,” she whispers.
Her book is taken out of her hands and she looks down to watch as Jughead settles between her legs on his knees. His fingers pull her (his) shirt up and runs them over her skin, watching as their baby kicks against his hand.
“It’s going to be so different when she’s here. Do you think she’ll like blanket forts?”
Betty sniffles and laughs. “I don’t know if she’ll like a fort but maybe if you tell her it’s a blanket castle she will.”
His palm cradles the side of her belly and he leans forward, brushing his lips near his hand. “A castle it is, but no princes. For a very long time, young lady.”
After pressing a kiss there, he moves back to the pillows and blankets, tucking them underneath his arm then holds his free hand out. “C’mon, Betts. I have a surprise for you.”
They walk outside and by the giant pecan tree in their backyard, Jughead has managed to make a giant blanket fort with twinkle lights, a screen to watch movies and a picnic basket.
“Oh, Juggie.”
Jughead looks at her for a moment, taking in her reaction and smiling softly at her. “I know it’s not much,” he starts, guiding her over and helping her settle down against some of the pillows. She immediately reaches for a blanket.
“It’s wonderful. Do I get to pick the movie?”
With a grin, he passes her the remote control and she peruses the options before picking one of her all-time favorite feel good movies. Then she snuggles into her husband’s side, beginning to snack on some of the food he’d brought out.
“This is why it’s called a ‘staycation’,” she says after the first scene, eyes flickering from him to the screen. “You’re home, but it’s not a regular day. It’s special.”
Jughead thinks on that for a moment as he eats from his bowl of popcorn. “This is better than some of our vacations.”
She hums and chews thoughtfully, agreeing to his words. As they watch the movie, his fingers move over her abdomen, chasing their daughter’s feet as she shifts inside. At one point, her back begins to hurt and she sits up, running her hands over her skin. Then it hits her, a strong contraction. Betty starts to breathe in short bursts before looking over to Jughead.
He glances at her in concern then down to her hands. “What’s wrong?”
“I think this staycation is about to be extended with an extra member.”

How to fall in love the wrong way
Chapter 9: Say hello from your window, say goodbye from your car
She decides to ask Cheryl Blossom out exactly three months, one week, and two days after they meet for the first time. She has already thought of the place, the time, the venue, and the situation. Take her out on one of their weekend picnics, broach the topic over Coke. She doesn’t want to make a song and dance about it (Mostly because their entire relationship already is a song and dance). It’s going to be a casual, no-pressure ask. It is not a big deal.
“Oh, my God this is a big deal!” Fangs and Sweet Pea declare loudly as they jump out of their seats, spilling their iced teas over each other in the process. Veronica, who has recently started hanging out at the Whyte Wyrm with the Serpents, bursts into laughter, and even Jughead cracks an amused smile.
“No, it is not,” she tells them.
“Moving over that extremely hilarious moment back there,” Veronica starts “This is a big thing. There’s going to be a new power couple in Riverdale High, and what’s more, it’s going to be my babies. Move over Bughead, move over Varchie, here comes…….drumroll please…….Choni!”
“You do realize you’re one half of Varchie, right?” Jughead inquires very politely, and is waved away.
“Irrelevant.”
“Either way,” Toni announces to the entire crowd “This is kind of important to me, and I don’t want anyone freaking her out or scaring her off, so, everyone. Stays. Away. From. Her. Got it?”
“You have got to chill out, buddy,” Fangs tells her, hand on her shoulder “It’s gonna be alright.”
***************
So, of course it isn’t alright.
It’s the exact opposite of alright, where everything that can possibly go wrong, goes wrong, and it ends with Toni’s heart lying somewhere on the floor of Cheryl’s bedroom, terribly bruised, and Toni herself, at the Whyte Wyrm getting terribly drunk with Sweet Pea and Fangs while the Scooby gang tries to make her feel better by singing her terrible covers of death metal songs.
But that’s getting too ahead of the story.
Backing up a week, three days after the meeting at the Whyte Wyrm, Toni still hasn’t asked Cheryl out. People keep asking her why; every time Sweet Pea passes her in the corridor he raises his eyebrows in a “Why aren’t you off making out with your girlfriend yet?” way; Fangs keeps hopefully half-raising his hand in a fist bump kind of way, and then lowering it when she shakes her head slightly. Jughead is curious too, but he doesn’t ask, and doesn’t let Betty interrogate her either, for which Toni is extremely grateful. Veronica is the most impatient of them all, keeps asking her when the “big thing” is going to happen, to which she keeps explaining that she can’t do anything because Cheryl hasn’t been coming to school.
And it has her worried. Even if Cheryl misses school, she always texts her and tells her why. But there’s been radio silence for the past three days, not one text, not one midnight call. Toni misses her. Misses her soft, sweet voice on the phone late night as they talk till two, misses her presence in school, the scent of her perfume, intoxicating and alluring. She’s had Veronica ask every girl who lives within one mile of Thistlehouse if they’ve seen Cheryl anywhere, but there’s no response.
She texts her some more, asks her where she is, but when there is no reply, she decides to fuck it, and go over there herself. She drives her bike over to just out of sight of Thistlehouse, parks it behind a huge tree, and carefully, sneaks onto the lawns. Spends about half an hour figuring how to get to Cheryl’s room, the next half climbing the scarily-frail tree next to her balcony. It’s dark inside the room, but she can make out a lump on the bed, that she assumes is Cheryl.
“Cheryl?” she whispers, loud enough that only the girl in the room would be able to hear her “Cheryl, It’s me.”
There’s a startled movement, and then suddenly Cheryl gets up “Toni? What are you doing here?”
Toni just stares. The other girl’s face is in the shadows, but she can still make out her features, and she is so in love with her it’s ridiculous. Her heart twists in her chest, skips a beat, as though trying to get used to being in Cheryl’s presence again. The world turns right again, and Toni wonders how she could have ever gone three days without being around her, without hearing her voice. Now that she’s back, she doesn’t want to leave. Ever.
“I….you weren’t replying to my texts” she finally explains, as Cheryl walks up to her, eyes wide and frightened.
“I was busy,” she explains, shortly “Toni, you have to go, my mother’s here, you can’t…….”
“It’s okay,” she reassures her “I snuck in. Nobody has any idea. It’s cool.”
“No, it’s not. You have to go,” Cheryl tells her, pushing her towards the large French doors leading to the balcony.
“Hey, hey, what’s up?” Toni stops her, grabbing her arm. Cheryl winces, and she lets go immediately “You go AWOL for a few days, and now you won’t even look at me.”
There’s silence.
“Bombshell,” she tries again “What’s wrong?”
They’re still standing too close, and when Toni tries to touch her chin in order to get her to look at her, the girl flinches, and that’s when she notices the bruise. It’s well-hidden with makeup, but from this close, she can make out a dark shape on her cheek, and for a moment, she goes blank. For a moment refuses to acknowledge this…….this blasphemy. The fact that someone would hurt the girl standing in front of her, taller than her, and still smaller than anything she has ever seen in her life. Her stomach turns, and she feels sick.
“Cheryl,” she says, very carefully, voice taut with rage, after a minute “Did your mother do this to you?”
Cheryl goes absolutely still “You should go.”
“No, I, fuck that,” she says, in a daze. She raises her hand, gently cups her face, careful to avoid the bruise “How dare she?”
“Toni, please.”
“Come with me,” she says, desperately. She isn’t thinking, isn’t thinking past this room; she just wants to get Cheryl away from this horrible place, just wants her safe.
“You know I can’t,” Cheryl whispers, and her voice wavers, she herself is trembling like a leaf. A tear drips onto Toni’s palm, and it almost kills her. Cheryl’s pain strikes her right between the ribs, twisting it’s way in like a rusty knife to the chest.
“No, don’t cry, please, sweetheart,” the endearment slips out, but Cheryl lets out a tiny sob, and she can’t stop herself anymore. She leans in, presses a kiss to the hollow just below her right eye, wipes the tear away. She repeats the motion with the left, and then keeps kissing her face, her cheeks, her forehead. Cheryl leans into it, for a sweet minute, and then suddenly twists away.
“I’m sorry,” Toni immediately says.
“I can’t…….I can’t do this,” Cheryl says, arms crossed, voice still weak, but firm.
“Do what?”
“You…..me…….any part of it. I just, I can’t…….”
“Nobody’s asking you anything right now.”
“I know how you feel about me,” Cheryl tells her, flatly, looking down at the floor, arms still crossed, voice strangely flat, detached “I just don’t feel the same way.”
Toni takes a step further into her personal space “Look at me while you say it.”
“Toni, go,” Cheryl whispers, still not looking at her.
“Look at me.”
“Go,” Cheryl cries out, pushing Toni away so hard she stumbles “Go. Go. I don’t want you here. I don’t want you in my life. I don’t, I don’t want you. Is that clear enough for you? I don’t want you!”
“You don’t mean that,” Toni says, voice trembling pathetically now, and damn it, while there’s a part of her that knows that what the other girl is saying is a lie, it is somehow being overpowered by the other half. There are tears in her eyes, and she furiously blinks them away, still trying to hold onto hope.
“I don’t care what you think I mean,” Cheryl tells her, turning away, and walking to her bed “Please, leave.”
And Toni does.

bughead drabble challenge round 4, day 2
prom/graduation
Jughead rests his chin on Betty’s shoulder, blinking slowly at the scene before him. Reggie Mantle is deep in conversation with Archie’s mom’s girlfriend, pausing every few seconds to flex his biceps, while Mary Andrews watches the interaction from her seat at the picnic table a few feet away, barely concealed amusement on her face.
“Is Reggie trying to hit on Archie’s future step-mom?” he wonders aloud.
Betty leans back against his chest, stretching her legs out before her like a cat. “What?”
“Eh, nothing.”
She taps his right leg, tilting her head towards the other side of the yard. “Look at Archie and Veronica.”
Their best friends had broken up two months ago, the night of their senior prom, when the truth about Betty and Archie’s ill-advised kiss had come to light. Betty and Jughead had stumbled their way through it – with a lot of tears, and long, frustrating, circular conversations about what they both wanted. (They always came back, stubbornly, to the same thing: each other.)
It had taken weeks, but eventually Jughead had settled squarely into a place of forgiveness.
Veronica, not so much.
He’d been surprised to see that she’d even shown up to Archie’s graduation party, let alone spoken to Archie. Now the two of them are seated on the steps of the back deck, heads tilted together, the ghost of a smile on Veronica’s face.
“Seems promising.” He squeezes the arm looped around Betty’s waist a little tighter, pulling her against him. He’s forgiven Betty, and Archie; it doesn’t mean he doesn’t still take comfort in the physical reassurance of holding her in his arms, in front of all of their friends and relations.
“I hope so.” Betty tilts her head back, looking up at him. “You wanna go home soon? I’m kinda beat.”
He nods, pressing his mouth against her temple, breathing in the scent of her hair. Four weeks – that’s all they’ve got left of this last, fading summer.
two truths and a lie
He can hear Betty’s voice in his head when it’s his turn to go: Give it a chance. You don’t have to be everyone’s best friend overnight. You just have to participate.
He knows she’s right, so he holds back a deep sigh and says, “I have a little sister. My favorite food is hot dogs. My girlfriend goes to Yale.”
Nine sets of eyes focus in on him, considering him, judging him, and Jughead feels a rush of heat creep up his neck. If freshman orientation was designed to weed out the socially awkward from its ranks, they’re doing a great job.
Leaning back with her hands on the grass, a girl with blue streaks in her hair shakes her head. “You don’t have a girlfriend.”
“Yeah.” A boy dressed in a sparkly black sweater, defiant of the late summer heat, chimes in. “The Yale detail is too specific.”
Jughead is slightly offended. Is he that unappealing? Betty doesn’t think so. She’d pouted over the summer: All the college girls are going to be so into you. So far, it seems to be one of the few things she’s ever been wrong about.
Still, it’s hard not to be smug when he says, “My favorite food is hamburgers.”
Betty laughs when he tells her about it on the phone that night. “Of course they thought you were lying. My girlfriend goes to Yale? It’s kind of a flex.”
“It’s not a flex if it’s the truth,” he protests. “If I really wanted to show off I’d just show them a picture of you.”
“Aw.” Even from a thousand miles away, he can practically hear her melting. “If it makes you feel any better, my RA saw the picture of you on my desk today, and she thought I was lying when I said your name was Jughead.”
“It does not.” He settles back onto his bed, hoping to squeeze in as much conversation with her as he can before his own roommate returns. “But tell me about your day.”
#bughead#bughead drabble challenge#i waffled on whether to make this universe canon with 4x17 and as you can see i decided yes#i hope that doesn't ruin things for anyone lol#betty cooper#jughead jones#fic
