Arguments w/ Shanks, Buggy, & Mihawk

Content: Gender Neutral reader, no NSFW. Maybe some slightly angsty stuff? Not really though.

Shanks

Arguing with him is either exhausting or it’s pointless, there’s never an in-between

Shanks doesn’t really take most arguments seriously because they’re either started by something extremely unimportant or he’s already made his decision and he’s not going to back down on his opinion

Pointless, because he’s not going to change his mind and he’s laughing at you while you’re trying to talk to him

“You’re so cute when you’re angry.”

Yup. Pointless. It’ll just make you more angry and him more entertained

The exhausting arguments are when he’s actually serious- and while he’s not mad at you, he’s mad that you can’t see his reasonings for doing what he’s doing

Especially when it comes to keeping you safe

Shanks won’t back down and it’s impossible to change his mind while he’s this pissed off, so it’s always best to just separate and come back later to talk it out when you’re both calm

While you do what you need to do in order to relax, Shanks festers in his anger and reflects on the things that were said between the two of you. His crewmates try to cheer him up- they offer him booze, they crack jokes, but he’s not in the mood for either and everyone is concerned

Truthfully, he’s worried. While he’s still not willing to change his mind, he doesn’t want to lose the relationship you two have worked so hard to build and maintain

He gets up out of his seat 3 times to pace around, mind racing back and forth on if he should go talk to you, and then convincing himself that it’s best to wait for you to emerge first so he knows you’re ready to talk

But he grows tired of waiting, and does actually end up coming to your shared room to resolve the issue

You’re still steaming just a bit. Your arms are crossed over your chest, and you don’t look up when he enters. You know it’s him, because a few others on his crew have already come to check on you, and you’d asked them politely to leave you be. But you don’t protest when he comes to sit beside you

He doesn’t touch you

It’s painfully silent for a while

Then he finally speaks up and breaks the tension

“I’m sorry. That got a little more heated than I wanted it to.”

You peek up at him just a bit. He notices how red your face is, and a strike of fear shoots through him at the thought of possibly having made you cry and then left you on your own for hours

He stretches out his hand, offering it to you to hold, and you shift in your position to take it

He goes into a rant on how much you mean to him and how he’s only doing what he has to do to keep you and the rest of the crew safe

“Because I love you. You know that, don’t you?”

You do

You also know that no matter how many times you two get upset with each other, you’ll always find your way back into his arms

Buggy

Arguing with him would come often, but the content of the arguments is what matters here

Only for the reason that Buggy is adamant about being correct in every situation, even when he is not and knows it

Everyone knows it’s best to just simply let him believe his delusions and let the natural consequences come through

But this guy seriously has weirdly good luck, and somehow all his delusions seem to come true for him in one way or another

Half of the time it’s just funny watching him be completely wrong about a subject, other times it’s a little infuriating

Arguments don’t last long between the two of you, though

Buggy craves attention, and attention from his favorite person is a must. It’s basically a necessity of life

Food, water, shelter, you. Not in that order, though

He realizes too late through his incessant rambling and gloating that he’s said something that hurt your feelings and immediately starts to backpedal

“Wait, wait, wait! That’s not what I meant! What I meant to say was-”

He’s red in the face, almost so much so as his nose

He hates to admit it, but you look really good glaring down at him like that as he tries to save his own skin

He clams up, sweating. Unsure of himself. Not sure what he was even saying a second ago

As much as you need time alone to chill out, he can’t seem to leave you be. It’s scary for him, seeing your usually smiling face so serious

He takes a seat outside of your room, and then breaks into pieces no, literally while he waits for you to emerge again

It takes you a few hours, but he’s there the whole time. His feet are pacing around, his head is whining, cheek on the floor. His hands are tapping and picking at the dirt in the wood, but every part of him lights up when he sees you again

“Aha! I see you finally caved. Couldn’t stay away from me, could you?”

You pause, and then move to go back inside before he yelps and his hands grab at your ankles. His parts come back together again, using the rest of his body to hold you in place

“Wait! I’m sorry! Please don’t go back!”

He shouts it all in a rush. He’s crying, and there’s snot running down his nose

He looks like a damn mess

It kind of makes you laugh at how desperate he is for you

he pouts up at you and you cave

He basically crawls up your body to hug you. You hug him back, petting his hair and waiting for him to relax, sitting right there in the doorway of your room. People pause as they pass, but a sharp look from you stops them from staying for very long

Mihawk

If Mihawk is actually worked up enough to argue with you, there’s a good reason for it

Usually he makes his point and that’s that. No other words exchanged, nothing more than a slight glance towards you

Mihawk is an introvert, and he gets exhausted from others very easily. He’s not trying to be rude or dismissive towards you when he does this, but that is how it comes off sometimes

He’ll turn his attention back to his book because after he’s said what he wanted to, he figures everything is fine. He understands his logic, why wouldn’t you?

But you, like a lot of people that aren’t Mihawk, are more emotional than he is

Your silence isn’t acceptance, it’s hurt

Only when you get up to leave the room does the thought cross his mind that maybe what he’d said didn’t come off correctly, and you might have just been insulted. But he figures you would come tell him if that were the case, so all is well and he returns to his book

This could go forever, really. Until he notices that you’re giving him the cold shoulder, and then he would stop whatever he was doing- even if he were in another room at the time of realization -and find you to clear things up right away

“Darling, we need to talk right away.”

Straight to the point. He doesn’t really ask you if you want to talk, because he knows if he doesn’t at least make an attempt at this it will haunt him like Perona’s ghosts all night

The thing about Mihawk that not many people know is that he’s got this cool, collected, silent aura about him because he simply does not have the energy to play nice with everyone

So when he’s just arrived home from a Warlord meeting, or somewhere that he was obligated to be present for, all he wants is time to himself to recharge

Having a relationship and balancing this need was something he was still learning

But he loves you so much and the thought of upsetting you over a misunderstanding gnawed at him and gave him massive amounts of anxiety and uncomfortability

He’s not this untouchable guy that everyone thinks he is. You’ve seen this; he laughs and cries like everyone else does

And you understand him. He couldn’t ask for someone better than you are

If you’re willing to, he’ll take your hands and kiss your knuckles.

“I apologize for my behavior. I should have given my words a second thought before I spoke them out loud. What can I do to make this up to you?”

It’s an easy thing to answer- it’s all you wanted since he’d returned, why you kept invading his space before he was ready to emerge and what lead up to the situation in the first place

You tell him you want him. His attention, to be wrapped in his arms. You just want to spend time with him, even if that’s in silence

He can work with that

He presses a kiss to your forehead and makes you promise that you’ll tell him if he ever says or does anything to upset you again. He wants to communicate, not lose out on precious time with you over something small

He goes above and beyond, though. He makes up a very romantic candlelit dinner that night for the both of you to share and even if it’s a very quiet dinner, (minus the music playing softly in the background) it’s perfect

like i love the music and most of the designs. all of it feels really fun and fresh and like ppl were branching out and having fun. i loved the stories and each of them really resonated with me, the characters were fun and enjoyable. i had fun going through most of the game (unlike swsh), even if the pacing was a bit off or it was a little heavy on the tutorials. i even enjoy most of the gameply. and the tera raids are so much better than dynamax stuff. area zero was a fantastic concept imo, and everything with arven and his parents felt so... meaningful? idk, the arven and penny stuff both hit real close to home for me. i could probably write paragraphs on how much arven and the professor at the end of the games means to me.

its just that it feels like, despite all the effort clearly put into parts of the game, no one outside of the people working on it during development saw it as meaningful. it was just "oh open world games are popular right now, we gotta push this one out now", and the devs were forced to sacrifice sometjing in the game to get it on shelves in time and chose to sacrifice the game itself. its like the game was intended to be a genuine gift of love and then company heads got mad at the thought that one of the richest companies in the world wanted to put out a good game instead of having a christmas cash grab.

and i know about crunch and the game was being rushed and everything and that what i just said is old news to everyone. it just sucks that what shouldve been a great game is how it is.

the games look and run bad. why couldnt they have been given the time to fix things. idk im just rambling. i have no conclusion here. i still wonder why brassius' hair is like that.

replaying scarlet before the new dlc comes out and god this game was rushed. they rushed rushing this game.

All of them are unfinished, buggy, and most are BOTH. Hell, Gacha Club is permanently broken on IOS.

Chibimation has been in development for a while, but along with that, mods have been more popular to use then offical gacha games for a while!

Luni probably saw this and saw it as a threat, considering the fact he had zero competition before.

BOOM! Mods are BANNED for Gacha Life 2 with only a single comment stating that they're now allowed!

So then people got hyped about GL2..

Okay seemingly random headcanon

Shanks has always had ADHD, Buggy autism.

Shanks is hyperactive, talks too much, lacks volume control, oblivious to his surrounding, hyperfixates on things, has no sense of personal space because he wants to hug and kiss all over every one of his friends and can't fathom his friends having a different love language than him.

As he grew up, he learned ways of coping, because, while he never really realized that he was different from other people, he did notice that others reacted badly to who he was inherently. He got a lot of energy out with his active, pirate lifestyle, until he got older, learned things about the one piece, lost Buggy, and his motivation waned, losing much of his energy to do anything (lacking dopamine). He became more aware of his surroundings and others' feelings as his Observation Haki developed, and he learned when he made people uncomfortable, when to shut up, and when to keep his physical distance. But the biggest, and most detrimental habit he developed was alcohol. Alcohol numbed his sensory intake, making his need for constant motion as a regulatory tool unnecessary. It helped him stay quiet when people were talking because it slowed his thinking. It was NOT helpful with motivation or impulse control, but that wasn't an issue when he had Benn by his side keeping him in check and telling him when ideas were stupid and going to get him or someone else killed.

Without Buggy, the one person that loved and embraced Shanks fully for who he was, granted, with a lot of complaining and teasing, Shanks lives a fragmented life, he lives as the persona he's created to be accepted. Without Buggy there to listen to his rants about anything and everything, Shanks feels insignificant, like a burden if he opens his mouth to ramble for thirty minutes about something he'll forget three days later. Without Buggy to advocate for, Shanks often forgets to think about his own needs. Without Buggy, Shanks has no one in his life to latch onto and not let go, to hug, to snuggle, to rest his head on when he's tired. All of his crew love him, and they don't mind the occasional side hug, but no one lets him attach himself to them like Buggy did.

Buggy is highly emotional, hypersensitive to the reactions of those around him, sensory sensitive, doesn't like public displays of affection or physical touch with no purpose, hyperreactive, struggles to inwardly reflect on his own emotions and decipher what they mean and why he is feeling them.

Buggy never learned many coping mechanisms, at least, not healthy ones. He tried to become big and scary so people were too afraid to judge him, to look down on him and treat him like he's weird. He avoided emotional intimacy so that he wouldn't have to decode his own feelings and relay them to another person. He avoided physical intimacy so he wouldn't have to grapple with his own emotions around his body and feeling vulnerable. He used the loud noises of his "performances" to hype himself up and hide who he really is inside but would always shut himself away in silence afterward to decompress. He never learned to control his outbursts, however, and is incapable of successfully masking for more than a few minutes at a time.

Without Shanks to facilitate the things he needs, and shamelessly ask for accommodations, Buggy lives an isolated, miserable, scary, and overwhelming life. Without Shanks, the one person that pushed passed his emotional walls, the person that forced Buggy to recieve physical affection, something he very much craves but is scared to accept for fear of judgement, Buggy's lonely.

Sorry, rant incoming

What are your thoughts on Doflamingo returning to the story? Do you think he will just be kept in Impel Down forever or will he actually get out for whatever reason and be part of the final battle?

I've been thinking over what I think is likely to happen, and the fact that he's still alive, even though 15+ people kept talking about how they wanted to kill him in Dressrosa, makes me think there is still something that he needs to do in the story. His potentially knowing of Imu's existence, but then never actually becoming part of the current plot would feel like a waste. Generally, people seem to think if he's coming back it's going to be with Cross Guild. Personally, I think it is likely that he will die if he does actually come back in the story because otherwise, we'd just be sending him to prison twice lmao??? Also, Oda has said he doesn't really like having sad endings where a character dies since the banquet afterwards would not be cheerful, but if it's a villain like Doflamingo I don't think that would make any of the protagonists feel too sad.

The most interesting route for me would be if he pulled a Crocodile and ended up helping the Straw Hats or probably even less likely, Law. It would feel repetitive seeing him fight them again, and now that he lost his kingdom, his family is in jail, and the emperor he was betting on to cause chaos in the world has been defeated, the only players left on the board are pretty much pirates or the World Government. I suspect it would probably bruise his ego if the people who cost him everything were defeated anyway by the Celestial Dragons because then all his losses happened for nothing. I doubt he would ever do anything out of the goodness of his heart, but just as a final middle finger to the Celestial Dragons.

Also, the idea of him sacrificing himself for Law purely as a manipulative move is kinda funny to me because it parallels Cora-san's sacrifice and now makes Law's grudge against him 100% more complicated. Like as a final "good luck moving on now," to Law before exploding in front of him. And if he still harbours any sliver of affection for Rocinante, making sure Law survives would be keeping his legacy alive. (this is 100% just what I think would be cool, but I doubt it would happen at all. Also if he ever takes off his glasses and we see his eyes, it would probably be right before he died. I imagine that would be a pretty badass scene too).

Ah, see dear anon, you should not think of like "roles" for characters. That's how you fall into the "kill him off after his role is done" trap. Which isn't really fun. Oda understands this and I was delighted by him not killing off his villains. There is still that "weapon" Doflamingo talks about, but he also implies that "power rots with time" so he could suspect the weapon isn't able to be used anymore? Who knows...

Oh, okay, my Obito Dying For Naruto PTSD has been activated with you mentioning the idea of Doflamingo dying for Law + exploding in front of him???

That is strangely too much like Obito's Death Scene (I'm not yelling at you or arguing or anything, I just have genuine PTSD from that and I avoid it like the plague just thinking about it makes my head hurt) That shit has traumatised me. I don't even want to think of having to experience that twice, I have trust issues and Kishimoto is the reason for all of them, I regret watching & reading Naruto sooo much. Oda has PLEASANTLY SURPRISED me time and time again bcs my expectations were below zero regarding like being nice to characters? He lets them suffer. But he doesn't kill them. And that's the sign of a great writer. Hopefully, highly doubtful Oda kills off any Warlords. He values his creations - his characters - a lot, at least that's my take on him as a writer. The only big deaths we had were of the good guys, Ace & Rosinante.

My only comfort is that Doflamingo values his life WAAAAAAAAAAAY too much to ever help Law. He & Law are done with being buddy-buddy, hey I got your back. Haha. No. Do I like thinking about them having each other's back? Yes. Will it happen based on their personalities, history & relationship? Nope. Not ever. They might fight together against the WG, but no way will they be JUMPING in front of an attack for each other. Like... Never gonna happen. Not even for a "fuck you, I get the last laugh" type of thing. They would be sassing each other like "what, you didn't hit him yet?" "How did you not dodge that, that's so easy to dodge." type of stuff

Law has accepted this and confirmed it. He might not be as BAD as Doffy, but Law genuinely didn't give a damn about Dressrosa. He just wanted to take Doflamingo down, not save Dressrosa, saving Dressrosa was a consequence of taking Doflamingo down. Think of it that if Law wouldn't do an action bcs of Doflamingo, then Doflamingo the same way wouldn't do an action bcs of Law.

Doflamingo wouldn't even die for Rosinante. He expected Law to die for him. In Doflamingo's mind, he has had his brother "stolen" from him by Law. Idk how to put it, but idk how else to word it. Rosinante loved Law enough to die for him.

Rosinante didn't love Doflamingo enough to die for Doflamingo - his actual brother. (And of course Rosinante should not, but that's not how Doflamingo is thinking)

Rosinante saw his kid older brother in kid Law and he, now as an adult, could do sth about it when he couldn't as an 8-year-old for Doflamingo.

Doflamingo, a Celestial Dragon, would not die for Law. It's out of character for him. I mean, we see warlords going around freely out of Impel Down, and if you think Luffy would put them back in prison, I think you're wrong. There's not gonna BE a World Government after the Straw Hats go to Mariejois. You think the marines will be able to catch Doflamingo, who can FLY all across the sea? The first time he gets out, he gets out for good. He'll either keep himself away or join the Cross Guild and then partake in the war - maybe.

Doflamingo's always been non-direct agression with the Celestial Dragons. He wants to fuck up everything they rule over so they have nothing to rule over. A clean slate. He's gonna let Luffy handle Mariejois. No way is he going against some of the monster freak thingies. He knows his own limits.

Nobody is getting Doflamingo back to Impel Down a second time. Once he gets out, he's OUT. Idk Law's current status in the manga and am caught up completely with the anime and honestly it's questionable if Law will even partake in the Mariejois War after the loss of his crew. Then again, Law is a one-man army, so who knows. Idk why he'd want to get into that mess, though? He'd want to go after Blackbeard or sth.

If Doflamingo ever does do anything for Law, it would be going after Blackbeard. Because nobody gets to kill Law except Doflamingo himself. Law is Doflamingo's ex-subordinate, Doflamingo's failed Corazón, Doflamingo's responsibility.

Funnily, that's a sibling-like thing of Doflamingo to do. The siblings beat each other up at home but someone messes with their little sibling outside - hell hath no fury like the older sibling about to fckn throw you into the ground and murder you.

I think he can take Blackbeard if it's 1 vs 1. Idk, I just think swordsmen with no DF are a better match for Blackbeard. But yeh, if Doflamingo does anything "nice" for Law... It will be either to attack Blackbeard (indirectly or directly.

None of that dying stuff.

Doflamingo is a Celestial Dragon. His life to him is worth ten billion times more than Law's, and more than getting a "one up" on Law and then dying? Not Doflamingo's style. Doflamingo's true middle finger to the Celestial Dragons is destroying them. Not doing sth small. He's "go big or stay home" kinda guy. He will be happy when all the Celestial Dragons in Mariejois are dead and I think that genuinely WILL happen.

I just want Doffy out of Impel Down already. I. Am. Fucking. BORED. WANO WAS BORING TO ME. I WAS YAWNING for Luffy vs Kaido. It only got fun for G5. (Thankfully Egghead is fun!)

Serious talk, I was pissed we didn't get to see his eyes after he was knocked out. For Oda, from what I saw of him doing an SBS where Doffy takes off his sunglasses only to reveal another pair 🤣 I think Oda just is saying that his sunglasses are meant to represent his eyes.

Wonderend Rambles

So Wonderend 0 finally came out!!! I haven't played much of it because I'm not exactly a horror game person so the jump scares kinda get to me for now, but I can say I started to play it. [I don't think there's any spoilers because I think you would have had to play the game to recognize if it was a spoiler]

I will say the only thing I can think when I play it is that with the camera thing it's like fnaf a bit. I've never personally have played any of the fnaf games but I watched my cousin play one of them and he was on the cameras a lot so that's probably why. Game play for Wonderend has been taking over my yt though and honestly it pains me how bad some people are. I'm going to get a bit rant-y but come on people if there's a exclamation point on the spot where the camera's are you should probably check it or maybe actually read the computer so you don't constantly go to the electrical room when it says go to the music room. It also tells you to keep the red locker sealed so granted I didn't know the stickers would literally fall off but I think after the first time it opens I would probably remember to check it every now and again. Anyways rant over sorry about that. It's nice to see all the pieces come together now finally knowing 000's name, learning how harsh people were towards him, knowing he now has a canon design and no longer going off of gacha club's and concepts. I also like how you don't start at a title screen you just jump straight into the game along with the title screen being more of a place you put codes into than an actual title screen. I did one of the codes so far but I had to restart the night due to leaving it. I have two more since I accidently messed up my screenshot and closed out of one of the photos. With that all said I think it's a decent game so far I like that the style is a mix of gacha and actual drawing [compare both 000s you can see during dialogue and you'll get what I mean] Anyways because I still have gacha club I'm trying to get the 000 battle unit to see if the wonderend glitch thing is still there so wish me luck! [Late update it doesn't and gacha club is stupid buggy now so I don't suggest using that app anymore]

Random ramble about it below cut because my autistic brain can't keep things concise lol

As buggy of a mess as Homefront was sometimes (not really in any of its DLC stories, to its credit, simple as they were), the weapon system was pretty nice. Pistol - SMG - Pneumatic pistol, Battle rifle - Marksman Rifle - Fireworks launcher???, AR - LMG - Magnetic Mine Launcher, Crossbow - Flamethrower - Blunderbuss, etc etc. Of all the faults and frustrations that comes with playing through the game, at least you, with a total of three weapon sets at a time, can not only approach it as you please (stealth vs loud for example), but oftentimes have a few backup plans as well right at the tips of your fingers. Even if some of them were just kind of objectively bad (Inferno Launcher, Freedom Launcher, etc... v-v")

Kind of funny actually that I went from loving the Freedom Launcher in my first run for being a solid explosive weapon for things that required it, to absolutely hating it in my second, most recent run a month or so ago, favouring the Limpet Mine Launcher because the FL just.. lacks stopping power... Woohoo it can blow up the fan entrances to strongholds, but even discharging 5 fireworks it doesn't even kill basic infantry most of the time on Deathwish, and the blind effect on it seems similarly ineffective, as opposed to the LML which obliterates anything that's not a Goliath, including the armored cars. Sure it only has one shot before needing to reload, but that's not even a problem since on Deathwish you generally are in cover for most of any engagement anyway. It's magnetic, it homes. It's a safe, extremely lethal option.

Wow, that got off topic fast. Homefront is far from without issues. It's entity generation process often means you'll have enemies spawned basically on you at any given time, things get stuck inside terrain or in sealed off buildings or other forms of painful inaccessibility, oftentimes engaging an enemy force creates several other engagements spread across as long as several tens of minutes as more and more are spawned nearby, attracted to the sound of conflict, and subsequently decide they want in the action, the pathing of certain things is just wall-bashingly frustrating, and aside from bugs, it's also just kind of a poorly designed game narratively, even if I still at least enjoy said story.

It's far from perfect, but damnit it has a special place in my heart.

Weird that the DLC gave you a voice though. Although I suppose it at least works better than the "silent protagonist just kind of shunted into more and more chores for the resistance" that main game gives you.

Amazing chapter as usual, Oda really trying to kill us and I love him

First of all we start with the info that vice admiral T Bone has been killed and that it was because of his bounty and can I just, congratulate Oda at the amazing way he demonstrated to us how these bounties are horrible????

Because that vice admiral was genuinely a good person! When we first met him it was obvious he is the kind of guy who wouldn't hesitate 100% to do something to help someone even if it was harmful to himself! And I bet he wouldn't defend himself against people like that civilians because for him how could you look at starving people and hurt them and defend yourself knowing that this is the best option for them!

I'm speaking for myself at least here but when Cross Guild was established and the marine bounties introduced I was happy because Fuck the Marines! And who's gonna use the bounty system? Pirates or bounty hunters! I have never thought of civilians And when I saw Koby's bounty I was proud because look at my boy! Five stars! And the only people hunting him at that time were pirates!

But now?

I'm hit with the reality that most marines aren't evil, that most of them genuinely want to help people, and that these bounties added a new element entirely which are the people

Because you always had the civilians that where tired of the unjust system and became revs, civilians that reported on pirates for their bounties, civilians that tried to be unnoticed because you just want to live AND NOW YOU ADD A SYSTEM WHERE AT THE DROP OF A HAT A CIVILIAN CAN SELL A MARINE TO A PIRATE!!!

The whole status quo of the universe is distributed because before this, only pirates needed to be always on edge bc a civilian could report them, they basically had no safe space except pirate territories and Marines were always safe with the civilians and vice versa!

NOW NO PARTY IS SAFE WITH OTHER

None of them could feel at ease around the other how could they? When they could be betrayed this easily!

Sengoku is right because this? This is going to weaken the Marines it will bring the morals down! If it goes on like this people will leave the marines because being a marine like that would mean never being safe!

The last few chapters where all about showing us how most of the major powers in the world are starting to move which was already disrupting the status quo

But now showing that not only are the major powers are moving but that entire relationship between two major factions are changing this quick??? The status quo is dead and its body is being trampled and I love it!

Way to show how shit is gonna be like from now on

Now onto Buggy!

So am gonna be honest, young buggy? I loved him he's awesome he's my boy, but older buggy? 😬 It just always felt so weird his relationship with shanks always puzzled me because shanks is not an idiot he would when someone really hated him and when Buggy trampled the strawhat after he knew of shanks

I was like how could you? How could hate him this much? Then I knew it was Roger's and he must have known so how? Why did he change this much? Because seeing young Buggy that guy didn't hate Shanks that was usual arguing

I honestly always considered Buggy's portrayal a mistake from Oda, like he established him in a way and now regretted it and changed it

Like I thought there's no way you can do anything to make this change believable

But this chapter? I was wrong you could do something

You could show his inferiority complex, show it subtle, show it growing, show how much he believed in Shanks, show how much Shanks'refusal broke his heart, was for him like trampling on their captain- father's legacy! He threw away his own dream for him! There was no one worthier than him! AND YOU DO THIS!? YOU GIVE UP!?

Of course Shanks was a coward in Buggy's eyes! And is it even worth it to try and achieve his dream if the one who is the most worthy of it the most challenging one wouldn't even try? What win would this be?

And I just, I love this. I stand corrected because all of the above is just so freaking good that my appreciation for Buggy grew because shit now I see his thought process and it makes sense!

I love how he gets news Shanks started and he's like "REALLY? NOW? WHAT'S THE POINT?" but still immediately decided to chase his dream again I love it

And I love how this chapter kind of shows that Buggy is a truer pirate than Crocodile and Mihawk, because crocodile is like Moria a bit where his dreams got broken and he's just settling he doesn't about care about the One Piece now he just wants to stay at this nice spot

And Mihawk (is he a pirate really? Or just really hunter the marines? I really don't think he considered himself a pirate) is someone who achieved his dream and is just complacent now, doesn't care about anything he has no drive anymore his life is so boring he trained the man who will try to kill him to get his title(or you know give him the beating of a lifetime)

Buggy here is a pirate like Luffy in which he has a dream and he wants no needs to at least try and achieve it because he was a Roger Pirate and the captain was always a dreamer

(also I don't think that crocodile or Mihawk or weak for being nervous? Because they really don't care about this shit and now they have to go and fight three emperors and Mihawk is literally their only S tier fighter here???? Yeah I don't blame the XD)

(also Oda giving Buggy this moment is so good because One Piece had always been following your dreams and we always had young characters doing that or just deciding to start on their dreams and Oda essentially giving a middle aged man who already gave up on his dreams the chance to try again knowing there's strong possiblity he would fail but it doesn't matter because he's at least trying???? I'm sorry that hit too hard and actually made me feel so fucking optimistic I can't-)

Now for the revs can I say I'm finally happy we get some new faces for them? At least they aren't as few as I thought

And I'm happy that some people survived Lulusia because damn that would have been very sad

Also who else thinks that the only people who survived were people who decided to join the revs and that most of the country died by the attack?

Although I heard another theory saying that maybe Sabo had some Intel when he was in Mary Geosie that Lulusia would be targeted (in which Sabo's call would have just made the process faster) and so went to try and evacuate the country and that's why he was there which is a neat explanation but I prefer the first one idk

(also I saw someone on a YT live stream chat theorize that Sengoku saying he wants Garp to try a new rice cracker flavor is probably a code which I never thought of so I don't know I like it though)

Hi! It’s no worries I’ve been around this app long enough to know it’s kinda buggy lol. Anyways, I actually remembered just now I wrote out my request in a random google doc before I sent it and never deleted it so I have able to just copy/paste!

Congrats on 1.7k!! May I have a romantic hunger games (it can be either the original films or the newer one) option 2 match up please? I go by she/her and am bi with no preference, so any gender is fine.

I’m about 5’5, dark blue eyes, medium length hair thats kinda too dark to be dirty blonde but not so dark that its light brown with slightly lighter blonde highlights throughout. Ive been told I typically wear what would be considered 90s type of style but leaning away from more feminine things tho I’m not opposed to dresses and all.

I do get pretty anxious when thrown in certain situations rather that be talking to a group of people or just one person. But on occasion and definitely when I get to know someone I never stop talking. I am a ranter and rambler which means I could be ranting about something that happened and then start talking about something else that may or may not be related to the original subject. Basically I will always find something to talk about though I do enjoy listening to other people talk. I am considered the mom friend because I tend to be the most logical. Im also a very determined, stubborn person who usually is kinda pessimistic but still has a huge imagination. And despite all the anxiety I am usually a relatively confident person and am not afraid to take up for anyone I care about. Also I am pretty good in school despite having a kinda bad memory. Also an INTJ, Sagittarius, and Ravenclaw.

I absolutely love writing and have for the longest time rather that be random original stories I make up or the various fanfics I have(lol). I also love drawing and painting and recently realized I’m actually pretty good at making art related to animals and the occasional landscape. I’ve also been a big music fan since I was a kid, I honestly dont know what I would do without it. I also really enjoy reading when I get the chance, like I could spend hours getting consumed by whatever I’m reading. Which also travels into me when I’m watching things. As in I spend a good bit of time just binge watching new or old shows. I also really like walking around and enjoying nature. Theres a few nature trails I love going on and would go to the zoo every weekend if I had the chance. Which also goes along to my love for animals. Also I do like going to random places with my friends.

katniss is absolutely not a people person. small talk makes her uncomfortable, and putting on a mask and playing a part doesn’t come easy to her. there’s a handful of people she’s comfortable talking to, and the rest don’t matter to her. she’d understand your apprehension getting to know people. but she’d feel pretty special when you opened up to her and started feeling comfortable venting and rambling. she may not be one for talking, but she does like listening. and you could listen to you talk for hours about whatever you wanted, happy to listen. you’re very alike as people. your values, your view on life, your temperament and your personality. you both being headstrong and stubborn could get in the way of your relationship sometimes, but you’d always manage to make her go soft around you. you’d be one of the few people that make her happy and help her feel relatively calm and safe, so she wouldn’t want to ruin that with petty arguments and bickering. you’d learn to work past it together quickly so you could get back to the simple things.

katniss doesn’t have much time for hobbies. plus, i don’t think she really allows herself the time to be idle. you’d have to constantly remind her to take a break and relax for a little while. she’d be too impatient for reading or art, but she’d enjoy hearing what you were reading about or working on. it would give her a sense of domesticity that she craved. and later on after the rebellion, she’d slowly start feeling more comfortable joining you with your hobbies and finding some of her own. i don’t think she considers herself to be a very talented person, but she would get a small sense of accomplishment and pride when she found a hobby she both enjoyed and was good at.

the place she’d most feel at peace would probably be the forest. walking along the streams, hunting for deer, just breathing in the fresh air. it would be a place she enjoyed going alone, but eventually, she’d start asking you to go with her. she’d show you all the best places she’d come to catch something or just clear her mind for a little while. it would be peaceful and quiet, which she’d love. one day, she’d ask you if you wanted to bring along something to draw with. she’d take you up to a ridge she liked to sit at, letting you sit down and draw the landscape while she hunted for a few minutes. eventually, she’d make her way back to you, sitting down next to you.

“no luck?” you’d ask when you noticed her coming back with a full quiver and no kill.

she’d shrug, setting down her bow. “found a few wild turkeys down by the river. some of the hens were nesting. i didn’t want to bother them yet.”

you’d nod, going back to your drawing. she hadn’t been gone that long, but you’d already made significant progress drawing the ridge and hillside that led down into the valley where the meadow was. you could feel her eyes on you as you worked, and you’d eventually feel her chin rest on your shoulder as you started drawing one of the trees, making you smile. you liked when she was soft like this.

“that’s pretty,” she’d murmur, fascinated by the way you worked. “peeta could’ve used you down at the bakery if he knew you could draw like this.”

“i wouldn’t want to upstage him,” you’d joke, knowing what peeta used to do took a lot of time and skill that only he could make look easy.

she’d chuckle, and you could feel her smile as she looked over your shoulder. “i don’t think he’d mind.”

you’d sit in silence another moment before deciding to take a break, setting your things down. you’d watch the ridge together, peering down through the valley where the spring flowers were just beginning to grow.

“you never told me we had flowers like this in the district.”

“they only grow in the spring,” she’d explain, resting her head against your shoulder. “my father told me the soot from the mines stifles them before they have a chance to grow. but out here in the meadow, they’re untouched. they can grow a few feet tall if they’re not harvested right away. you can use the roots for medicine…i used to bring prim some.”

you could hear the hurt in her voice at the mention of prim’s name. she’d grow quiet again, her eyes locked on the ridge. she was afraid if she looked over at you, she wouldn’t be able to keep it together. you figured it was best not to pry about it—not now, at least. instead, you’d pick up your drawing, handing her a few pencils.

“pick a few colors. i want to draw the flowers in too.”

she’d give you a small smile and nod, immediately reaching for the green pencil. you’d grin, setting the rest of the pencils down as you began working again.

“i should’ve known.”

you know me, I am eating up all this fresh, locally-brewed AU material. let's see how long I ramble in reply 😅

I feel a little silly/like I should have clarified on the reincarnation AU;; I was envisioning something more along the lines of a modern setting, where one or both characters retain their memories of their past life from the canon setting. I was probably thinking of that since I'd read a few fics focused on Ace and Luffy and how their dynamic would be affected by, say, Luffy remembering that Ace had died for him in another life. So;; in this "modern" reincarnation AU, I thought it could be interesting if:

Shanks recalls everything from original-flavor One Piece, but maybe no one else does?

so he runs into people in his day-to-day life, like Buggy and Mihawk, and like you said, struggles not to repeat his previous emotional missteps with them... and whatever thematic fallout comes from that

and he also encounters Ace, who he either A) never got to know well in his past life, but remembers was lost tragically and feels a fierce need to protect in this one. or B) knew intimately back then, and feels an even fiercer need to cherish now.

but Ace, for one reason or another, has just as many walls up in this life as he did originally. something like that?

(or, more tragic-ish, Ace also remembers everything, and that colors what he does in his current life... in like a fatalistic way that he needs to be snapped out of 😭)

I hadn't considered one quite like what you laid out, but ooooooooof the time-loop style implications of Shanks knowing certain things about the OP universe that he uses to his advantage in his second go-round, like you described...

There's something hilarious and kind of bittersweet about him immediately setting out to complete his same mission!

The flip?? Of Shanks joining Ace's crew this time round... I can't even wrap my head around it, haha. They'd be such an unstoppable force, though, with Ace being so powerful and more grounded (hopefully 😂) at that age, and Shanks earning his trust as they navigate their adventures together...

Poor Luffy... God what if Ace was that much more protective in return, and like, rants to crewmate-Shanks ("Stabby." I'm. dfjkgshg) about this reckless pirate who saved his baby brother's life once, which he's so grateful for, but he also kind of wishes he could throttle the guy for some reason. Maybe because Luffy cried over him so much... In the end, Ace has to suppose he was an incredible person. (And "Stabby" is just like. sweating)

The Pirate Radio AU is so. Fun. The amount of serotonin I got from "the idea of them running a timeslot together, only to get caught flirting live on air. (Or, having sex in the booth and accidentally broadcasting it. Oh, god.)" Them having just a disgusting amount of chemistry on air together, and seeming to share a brainwave when it comes to musical taste. And making the extremely poor to decision to fuck in there (they w o u l d. oh my god). That's what dreams are made of right there.

I'm thinking about this too much, but... Shanks' having to repress his inner romantic in this AU—like, he has to project a lot of swagger to be the face of rock & roll (or so he thinks lmao). Which is part of why Ace can't help clashing with him, defensively at first, and then more and more playfully as it becomes clear that they're just sooo smitten with each other. Heheheh.

Reincarnation AU

Okay, omg. Like you say, there's so many ways a Shanks reincarnation AU could go, so the whole idea is pretty exciting. A Shanks/Ace reincarnation AU in particular? Oh-ho!!!! So many possibilities, and yet I've never really considered it before.

I think you could write it two ways? One where Shanks dies after meeting Ace (he would find the reversal in their age gap hilarious!!!), and one where Shanks dies before they meet. Maybe he dies from blood loss after saving Luffy? Traumatising, lol. But that's potentially where I'd start, and go from there.

As for the kind of people he'd be born to, I think it'd be fucking hilarious if he was a Celestial Dragon (especially considering people speculate this about his birth anyway). Just some vague ideas:

During childhood, he'd take advantage of his position to find out incriminating military secrets he'd previously been unable to discover, including personal secrets. Just for funsies!!! (And, you know, blackmail.)

He doesn't stick around with his parents, setting sail as soon as he can fend for himself. I think he would, at first, go to Rayleigh. He can't go to Buggy—he wouldn't be quite helpful enough—and he can't go to Garp or Whitebeard (what if he makes him his son????) So, he spends a few years with Rayleigh (working with Dragon during this time) until he's 18ish, maybe?

He sets sail alone, seeking out Luffy, who of course ate the Gum Gum Fruit. That's how he meets Ace, who is reminded of another runaway high-born he knows, and invites Shanks to join his crew. Which, well, why not? He's Luffy's brother and son of the Pirate King. What better way to be in the centre of the action.

What's going on in the background? Why is Ace still alive? Well, Shanks' death was so traumatising for Luffy, and then Sabo's, that he became so terrified of Ace dying, he got incredibly protective. No way was he letting Ace hunt down Blackbeard, especially not when he finds out Whitebeard didn't strictly permit it. This is also assuming the timeline moves more slowly, which it does, because I say so, so there.

Having said all of that, I also totally think Shanks would try to make amends in his old relationships just by being a better person for them (and totally burns himself out doing so). However it goes, you're so right in that Shanks would totally struggle with the idea of getting another chance (because he's a fucking martyr who wants to fix everything). I do think a timeline where Shanks/Ace were previously a thing could be interesting, but I'm not as certain how I'd do that. (Probably I'd have Ace born earlier, while Roger's alive.)

(Also, Shanks would call himself, like, Stabby, as homage to Shanks. Or he gets Rayleigh to name him.)

Pirate Radio AU

This idea is underdeveloped but I love it. It just works for them/their relationship, and fits snugly with the OP universe. I imagine secret radio stations transmitted through specifically bred Den Dens. I'd prefer to write it that way than to write an modern AU simply because Den Dens are fun! (As you well know, Chromo... 👀)

So, the backstory would be like OP, just: Roger is considered the king of pirate radio. After his death, Shanks follows his lead and creates his own station, broadcasting from a ship, so he's harder to catch, of course. And, yes, Luffy and Ace join him when they're old enough!

"Shanks in some kind of loudly-patterned blazer, stubble, & colored glasses..." YES, exactly. I think Ace would be so, like, dazed by him, and angry about it. Then Shanks starts letting him choose songs, and dedicates songs to him, and they get more and more ridiculous in their outrageous, musical flirting, until one of the others (Benn, probably) plays a very passive aggressive song about it. Or something.

Also, love the idea of them running a timeslot together, only to get caught flirting live on air. (Or, having sex in the booth and accidentally broadcasting it. Oh, god.)

When they're not aggressively flirting, they're pissing off the government, of course, who are meticulously censoring all music. Maybe while sailing, they seek the legendary scores of Joy Boy, the first true pirate radio host, lol.

Okay, so I cannot be the only one who saw the photo for this week's Writer Wednesday (thank you once more for hosting, @autumnleaves1991-blog!) and went the direction I did. If I am the only one, well, just further proof my brain is certifiable. Make sure you comment on when you figure out where this fic takes place.

You pat her knee as you fly through a kitchy town. “Hang in there, honey. It’s almost over.”

The village elder’s well wishes still ringing in your ears, you pull up next to another idling transport. From the driver’s seat, your boyfriend winks at you.

“You’re going down, Dameron!” you holler at him.

He makes the universal ‘I’m watching you’ gesture. “Eat my dust, losers!”

Finn yells back something that has you smacking him again, shooting an apologetic glance to the second row of Poe’s transport, where Snap and Karé are sitting with their daughter Nora. Snap’s hands fly to cover Nora’s ears while Karé laughs heartily.

Next to Poe, Rey holds her thumb and forefinger up to her forehead in an ‘L’ shape. “Second place is the first to lose!”

Before any more trash talking can occur, you see a flash of red out of the corner of your eye and then both vehicles take off, bursting out of the dark into blinding sunlight.

You both fly over the rusty terrain, neck and neck as you navigate under rocky overpasses and around hairpin turns. From the second row of your car, you can hear Maz lobbing profanities at Chewie in the other ride. He’s yelling back in his native tongue (which you still only understand half of). Beside Maz, Leia and Han are both laughing like kids.

A shriek of joy erupts from you as you fly over a series of hills, the momentary weightlessness thrilling. Finn has both hands in the air, while Kaydel grips the safety handle with white knuckles.

Finally, you come out of a turn to see a sharp drop. You look to Poe, who grins back at you, his vehicle slightly ahead of yours. Damnit, you HATE losing to him. He’s the worst winner.

At the last moment, your ride leaps ahead, crossing under the checkered banner by a nose. The passengers of your car cheer and high-five in victory, while Poe’s passengers groan in good-natured defeat.

As you roll through the red-lit cavern, you laugh as you catch sight of Poe’s face. He’s a terrible winner, but he’s an even worse loser. Even if his loss comes at the hands of an algorithm.

Anthropomorphic cars wave you off as both vehicles enter the unloading zone. On the other side of the platform, Chewie is lifting Rey out of the front seat as she pretends to collapse in agonized failure, her laughter completely destroying the illusion. You accept Finn’s hand as he helps you up, both of you turning to support Kaydel as she crawls out of the car.

A ride attendant watches her warily. “Does she need assistance?” he asks Han.

Han waves him off, wrapping an arm around his wife’s shoulders as Maz and Chewie beeline for the ride photos. “She’ll be fine. No protein spills here.” At the cast member’s astonished look, the charming rogue gives his trademark grin. “Ain’t my first rodeo, kid.” As he and Leia stroll past you towards the exit, he catches your eye and winks. “That, and they haven’t changed the lingo since the 70’s.”

Laughing, you rub Kaydel’s back as Rey swaps places with Finn and helps bracket your green-tinged friend. “Let’s get you some water, yeah?”

Kaydel manages a slight nod, and the three of you make your way towards the exit.

Behind you, you can hear Poe and Finn bickering, as they’re wont to do.

“It’s a ride, dude,” Finn is saying, the exasperation clear in his tone.

“It’s physics, dude,” Poe shoots back. “There’s NO way the car on the outside of the turn would be able to finish first.”

Worst. Loser. Ever.

Your rag-tag alliance eventually makes it out of the exit tunnel. Ben’s waiting across the walkway, those ridiculously long arms crossed over his chest as he leans against the guard rail and steadily ignores whatever Armitage is ranting about.

On the bench next to them, Rose perks up, a smirk crossing her pretty face as she sees Poe’s expression. “Well, I don’t need to ask who won.”

“Don’t wanna talk about it,” the most-competitive-pilot-in-the-galaxy grumbles back, adjusting his backpack. You help Kaydel to a bench, where she quickly curls up.

Rey rolls her eyes as she forces her way into the circle of Ben’s arms. “It’s not like any of us could have actually controlled the outcome, you noodle.”

“Not without some kind of magic,” Ben intones dryly, resting his chin on his girlfriend’s head.

“How cool would that be, though?” Rey’s getting her Down-The-Wormhole-We-Go eyes. You and Rose exchange a Look™️ as she starts gesturing wildly with her hands. “Like, imagine if you could just look at something like rocks and, like, make them fly. Or make someone do whatever you wanted them to do. OH!” She looks up at Ben with a slightly manic expression. “Lightning bolts from your fingers!!”

Well-used to these kinds of rambles, Ben gently captures her hands and wraps her into a hug that doubles as a straight jacket. “No more SyFy channel before bed.”

Rose slides her arms around her husband as Finn joins her on the bench. “Did you behave?”

Nora, in all her 6-year-old innocence, giggles. “Mr Finn said a whole lot of swear-jar words.” She casts a critical eye on the young man. “You probably said enough you could buy an Elsa doll.” The ‘for me’ is unsaid, but implied.

Karé rapidly turns her laugh into a cough.

Finn glances down at his wife as Rose smacks him upside the head. “Hey! That tractor thing is terrifying. And Maz said WAY more than I did!”

“Age before beauty, Finnigan,” Maz says haughtily, waving off Finn’s ‘m'name’s not Finnigan, damn it’.

Giggling, you tune out the ridiculousness that is your found family and turn your attention to your still-sulking boy toy. “You know,” you murmur, wrapping your arms around his waist, “you make that face for long enough and it’ll stick that way.”

He huffs. “This is just how my face looks.”

“Uh huh.” Considering yourself quite the expert in his face, having spent countless hours studying every crease and line until you could have drawn him blindfolded, you call bullshit, but say nothing further.

“It is,” he insists.

“Okay,” you agree.

The King of Sarcasm narrows his eyes. “You’re doing that thing.”

You widen your eyes innocently. “What thing?”

“That thing where it sounds like you’re agreeing with me but you’re really telling me I’m a dumbass.”

“What?!” You bring your hand to your chest. “Moi?! I would never.”

He huffs again, but you can see the hint of a smirk starting to break though.

“C’mon, First Runner Up,” you tease. “No sulking in Disneyland. Let me buy you a drink at Trader Sam’s, and then we can sneak off to the Haunted Mansion and make out like teenagers in our Doom Buggy.”

He tilts his head, considering it.

“Or-“ You brush an inky curl off his forehead and stand on your toes until your lips are just about caressing his ear and whisper, “-we could get back in line right now and go again.”

Even before you’ve finished speaking, Poe’s grabbing your hand and hauling you back towards the entrance, tossing a “See you jerks later!” as he pulls you under the Radiator Springs Racers sign. Their laughter echos behind you as he leads the way through the mostly empty line (thank goodness for parade lulls).

As you wait in the queue, only a few dozen people stand between Poe and his (re)shot at victory. You see that competitive gleam in his eyes start to come alive again.

“Hey.” You tug on his tee shirt until he looks at you. “If our car doesn’t win, tonight I’ll do That Thing you love.”

“Babe.” The look he gives you is one of pure torture. “You are killing me here.” He really loves to win. But he really, really loves That Thing. “What about when we come in first?”

You shrug demurely. “Then you wear Those Pants™️ tomorrow.”

Hm. Poe’s always been quick to calculate his odds, and this is quickly turning into a win/win situation. If you lose, he gets That Thing. But Those Pants™️ turn you about feral, and when you’re in that kind of mood- let’s just say Poe still has the scars on his shoulders to prove it.

“Are those terms acceptable, Flight Commander Dameron?” You smile sweetly up at him.

His licentious grin says it all. “Hell yeah.”

For the record, your car does lose a second time. And the next morning, Poe hardly has Those Pants over his ass when you’re ripping them back down his legs and shoving him backwards onto the bed.

Oh, yeah, he thinks to himself. This is better than any dumb kid’s ride.

…doesn’t mean he’s not going to ride it as many times as it takes to win.
