Uncrated Weekly Issue #1

There’s a famous saying that goes: “The best time to have started a tf2 crate unboxing Tumblr blog was 10 years ago.” I don’t think there was a second part to that quote, but we’re here now, and today is the first day that I’ll be attempting to unbox an Unusual hat. But, before getting into any of that, I owe the reader some background information.

Firstly, I think it’s worth stating that with any good idea, you find buried underneath it, previous ideas that this new idea was built off of, and this blog is no exception. In such a case, I think it’s worth giving credit to the person who originally had this idea. Buddhapest, some 11 years ago, decided he would open a crate every week until he got an unusual, which may sound familiar, but by attaching this idea to a blog, it allowed him to dive into the statistics, psychology, and broader tf2 economy that is all intertwined with unboxing crates. Like I said, good ideas come from somewhere: this is a good idea, and this guy’s blog is a somewhere. 

I have many reasons for doing this now, but the principal reason is that I have a budding gambling problem. I’m not putting the house on black or anything, but I really enjoy gambling: cards, dice, elections, and now crates. However, I think as a personal philosophy, it’s important to put as many safeguards between yourself and disaster. For this purpose, I’ve always really liked the idea of writing, “I will not gamble” on the chalkboard 100 times. I guess that’s why I’m here now: I’m taking the scenic route with that chalkboard idea.

Now, for what we've all been waiting for: the Uncrating. This week, we’ll be opening up a #92 Mann Co. Crate for reasons that will be explored later, and let's see it...

The listed backpack.tf price is 3.22 ref, or about 0.043 keys at the time of writing. Not to get too deep into the stats, but the odds of getting this drop were about 16.07% (TF2 Wiki). Not off the greatest of starts, but everything must start somewhere, even if it is -$2.00.
