what are your top ten bt songs? to me dress is one of their most bland songs i’d like to know what else you pick
i feel like you just gave me an f in buck tick class!!! i feel so JUDGED
but i will say... i deserve it. to preface my list, i am a fake fan. and i mean in that in a very general sense. i own a yu yu hakusho shirt and i've never watched yyh--not even the "i caught random episodes on adult swim, out of order and never finished it" type way. i haven't listened to anyone's full discography outside of one direction (and even tehn i haven't listened to 70% of their solo works). i didn't really believe in listening to full album until like... 3 years ago? i go to concerts for artists where i only know like... 5 songs.
you know how obsessed i am with naruto? i never finished shippuuden. i read the manga obsessively up to whatever chapter sakura fake confessed in, dropped it, binge read the rest the week before th amanga ended, and never revisited the entire second half of the series. ever. outside of the last sasunaru fight.
i am a VERY VERY fake fan for most things. sometimes it's because i don't think i need to enjoy everything from a project/artist/franchise to call myself a fan, so i never revisit parts i didn't enjoy, and sometimes it's because i am too lazy o reven too scaraed to explore parts i haven't come across organically. i have been stung by many an album.
so now you understand... i am a buck tick fake fan.
so... i have VERY strong feelings about dress because i first heard it in the trinity blood opening almost 18 years ago but in those subsequent 18 years, i've kind of just meandered through their discography and never did any deep dives. so if you have better tracks, feel free to tell me
but here's my list
dress
romance
kiss me goodbye
kuchiduke
quesera sere elegy
misshitsu
ash-ra
speed
just one more kiss
bishu love
and with that said, another thing to know about me is... i DO have boring taste in music. or, to be clear, i have a very, very eclectic taste in music and am ALWAYS up for trying new genres, new artists, new techniques, but at the end of the day, i do gravitate towards the "easiest" and "most accessible" of said music. if i like industrial, it's baby's first industrial track. the only death grips song i like is the loona mashup. i think crash is charli xcx's most enjoyable body of work. almost every time a band has been called a sell out, that's my fave era of theirs.
so on the surface my taste in music is crAAaaaAAAzy but like... i cast a wide net... that has very large holes in it.
that said i would die for the song dress and i will kill you in your sleep for calling it boring.

Although I prefer 2015 version of Misshitsu over this one for obvious reasons (more prominent guitar work) I can't deny the fact that this live conveys the feels in a way that shakes one to their core. In conclusion I'm -in lesser words- in love with one Atsushi Sakurai.

Day 13 of B-T 30 Day Challenge
A song which makes me emotional? Well there are a few actually but I think for now the one which really stirs me from the inside almost to the point of tears has to be Die from Darker Than Darkness. Just the mention of this song makes me feel heavy in the chest and also a slightly stiff feeling in my throat. Now ik it's supposed to be this positive song about accepting death which is inspired by Buddhist philosophy (via http://blog-tick.blogspot.com/2017/04/the-best-of-buck-tick-part-i.html?m=1) and I'm not afraid of death, atleast not as much as I used to be when I was a kid. I guess I've slowly come to accept it. I guess its the overall sombre melody and Atsushi's soft vocals that really pulls my heartstrings. Its so saddening it's made me bawl my eyes out. I'm not really knowledgeable on music theory so I have no idea how to explain what exactly makes this song so emotional to me. And the lyrics makes me feel even more depressed since I can't help but wonder about all the sad things that could've inspired this song and just thinking about it makes me teary eyed. Perhaps I don't know any better but something about a young person writing such songs during what is assume is the height of their popularity is really depressing (and I know its supposed to be a really dark album hence the name lmao but still😭 also im aware that this isnt the first time he's written a sad song but still😭) . It's a very inspiring and comforting song about accepting that nothing in this world is permanent and that all living things will someday meet their end.
Nice and I'm crying, brb🥲✌️
Honourable mentions:
1) Adult Children
2) Misshitsu

One of my favorite songs and always so beautiful live.
密室
This song always seem to break him at the end... to the verge of tears, it's almost beautifully painful. Even to these recent years it still does touch his heart... I wonder about what experience or person is this song dedicated to.
It's one of my favourite songs and I can barely ever listen to it... without also wanting to cry.

Going from one BUCK-TICK's album to another in chronological order, something is obvious : the guys did take their time to evolve at first, but once they did, they never stopped. The difference between Aku no Hana (1990), Kurutta Taiyou (1991) Darker than Darkness style 93 (1993) and Six/Nine (1995) is so big, and they published them in 5 years. And what can I say about the albums after 1995 ? Damn. I'm a big fan of their early years from Hurry Up Mode in 1987 to 1989 with Taboo : very straight rock, new wave influenced and punk rock even though they already are very special in their own way thanks to Imai Hisashi's genius and hability to create a harmonious whole . But once Taboo came out everything's changed - Atsushi Sakurai started to write almost all the lyrics and it obviously had an impact on their music.
Aku no Hana is very dark, its inspiration from Charles Baudelaire's Fleurs du Mal had infuse the music and the lyrics very deeply. It's one of my favorite album so far, it's very homogeneous and the sound is definitely my type. Kurutta Taiyou isn't very different if we talk about the sound only, but the atmosphere is something else. You feel how it sounds goth rock more than straight rock. Titles like Taiyou no Korosareta or Jupiter announced the next album very clearly without going out from the album's ambience. Darker than Darkness style 93 is definitely a break up from the past. The introduction song, Kirameki no Naka de... says it clearly : new sounds and experimentations are coming. The third song, Yuuwaku has blues influenced, Dress is a journey to a foreign sound, its structure is extremely special. Funny that the last two were composed by Hideko Hoshino : it's clear that he had a specific vision with these two titles. The album is more industrial, the bass and the drum are quite strong. Finally, when I listen to Six/Nine I'm overwhelmed. Songs like Aikawarazu no "Are" no Katamari ga Nosabaru Hedo no Soko no Fukidamari or Rakuen (Inori Koinegai) are out of this world. For real. So experimental. And if I talk about Misshitsu I'm gonna lose myself. It reminds me of Guns of Brixton by The Clash with its reggae guitar's sound, but darker, obviously. It's crazy how every album is homogeneous in its own way, is consistent despite all the experimentations they did. Also, Atsushi Sakurai improved a lot with his vocals, I love how his voice sometimes "break" or sounds like a deep scream. But I could write about this in details for a long time so... I'll stop here.
The fact is that my favorite band is Pink Floyd, I should be use to experiments and all these type of things when it comes to rock music. I've listened to so many things since my teenage years and my discovery of rock music in general (from classic rock to glam, heavy metal, industrial and everything I could feed myself with - which means a BUNCH of things) but BUCK-TICK hits different everytime and listening to their whole discography at once - meaning during weeks - is quite an experiment too, honestly.

what are your favorite buck-tick songs or albums? or, what songs would you recommend to someone who hasn't listened to all of their songs yet?
hmm well as for what id recommend to someone just getting into it id say it depends on the style of music you like! they literally have soooo much music id say your best bet is to listen to the hits and then just start from wherever lol.
my fave albums are probably darker than darkness, memento mori, abracadabra, and juusankai wa gekkou.
some of my personal fave songs are coyote, sophia dream, boukyaku, misshitsu, tenshi wa dare da, babel, jupiter, yuuwaku, gekka reijin, kiss me goodbye, devils wings, and ofc the big hitters like dress and romance
full disclaimer im not like...a buck-tick hipster most of my faves are the mainstream albums and songs
