summer fun in the sun (a fic for @marauder-girl because i love her SO much and she deserved a cute fun eddie diaz fic for her birthday!!!!)
It’s record breaking temperatures in LA, there isn’t a cloud in the sky, and Buck and his boys are melting.
It's his and Eddie's day off, but with little to no air conditioning in the house and Chris waking up at 7 because it was too hot, they hadn’t accomplished much. They had all piled into the king sized bed, in shorts and nothing else, and cranked the AC that was chugging along with everything it had.
While Buck and Chris usually cuddled, they were now avoiding each other the best they could, Chris lying at the end of the bed, grumbling about the heat.
They had options of course. Well, the beach wasn’t one. Eddie knew it’d be crowded as all hell today, and Buck had told him before that if they ever attempted to go back, it’d need to be a calmer day.
There was a community pool not far from the house, but Buck surmised that it would be packed too.
He’s wondering how much more he can actually sweat into the bed, when Eddie sits up.
“That's it. I won’t let our day be like this. I’m going to the store.” There’s determination etched into his face as he heads over to his dresser and pulls out a tank top, slipping it over sweaty hair.
“Eds, noooo. You’ll burst into flames.” Christopher laughs the way he always does at Buck’s dramatics, Eddie throwing on a pair of sneakers and shaking his head.
“I will not let us suffer like this. I won’t be long.” He kisses Chris on the forehead before walking over to Buck and giving him a kiss on the cheek. “I’m not about to let us all sweat to death.”
He returns home no more than a half hour later with a bag full of items from the discount store. Sunscreen, ice pops, a pack of water guns, something that you hooked the hose up to called ‘The Whacky Worm’, and-
“Babe, this is a blow up pool. For newborns.”
“And? Either Chris can sit in it, or we can use it for our feet.”
Eddie marches out to the backyard with his items without another word, and Buck just shrugs as he heads to Chris’s room to help him put on his trunks.
Blowing up the pool takes….a considerable amount of time. Eddie and Buck take turns as the other rubs sunscreen all over Chris. Once he’s thoroughly covered to Eddie’s liking, he grabs the hose and gets to work.
Filling up the pool is easy, and Buck does have to admit it’s nice on the feet. ‘The Whacky Worm’ turns out to be a long tube with holes and small noodles attached to it that spurt water in different directions, and Chris loves it.
Sitting next to it gets him cool enough, but he laughs when Eddie himself runs into the spray and picks him up. Buck sits on the grass, water bottle in hand as he watches his boyfriend giggle and laugh as he tips Chris in and out of the watery spray. Sure he’s sweating bullets, but the water gun that he can intermittently spray himself with definitely helps.
He watches as Eddie sits Chris down back under the spray and leaves him with a few of his toys he had brought out to play with.
Buck wasn’t expecting a show when Eddie turned around but he definitely gets one.
Eddie’s tank top is completely soaked, clinging to the well defined skin underneath. It’s nothing Buck hasn’t seen before but his mouth is very dry for reasons that aren’t related to the heat. Eddie grabs the hem of it, stripping it off in one fell swoop, and Buck gets a little dizzy.
If Eddie in a wet shirt wasn’t intoxicating enough, Eddie with water droplets running down his chest and abs sent Buck’s brain into overdrive. He’s working on getting it to do a factory reset when Eddie sits down beside him, stealing his water bottle out of his hand.
“You gotta be less obvious when you stare.” He takes a swig of the water, winking at Buck’s incredulous look. “I’m just saying, you’ve never been subtle.”
“Why be subtle when I can look at my hot boyfriend?” Buck leans over kissing Eddie on the corner of his mouth, loving it when he feels Eddie smile.
Hot boyfriend, adorable son, hot summer day. What else could Buck need?
