So um... my hyperfixation on fictional characters is so bad that I wrote a poem about it and... might have submitted it to my teacher for an assignment—which she loved btw so yeah.....

I’m drawn to you, though you never were— a thought that lingers, fleeting and soft, a memory from a time I never knew, yet I feel you deeper than my own heart.

You are a love born from scattered dreams, a person I imagine in every shadow, your touch a whisper in the empty air, and it stings me more than any truth could.

I yearn for what my mind cannot create, a person who exists in my quiet thoughts, a presence I hold like a burning ember, or a light I’ll never reach, though it warms my soul.

You don’t even know me, but yet, I ache for you as if you’re the one I’ve always known— a stranger who belongs in the deepest part of me.

“Sweetie, what’s this?”

Emerging from the hall, Sylus holds in his hands a tight, awry bundle of fabric. It’s familiar to you, as you tilt your head in observation. Once at your side, the jumble of various cloths becomes more visible as he sets it down in front of you.

It’s completely handmade, the preface of long strips of cotton wrapped around flatter, delicate silk. Around the increments of silk that peak out, there’s some semblance of puff balls, delicately stitched patterns, and miniature beads. As you undo the giant knot that secures it at the back, your eyes widen when you remember why you had this tucked away in a box, burrowed deeply in the closet of this particular safe house.

Idly, you muster a strained, “Oh.”

You lay out the rest of the silk: it’s two rectangular panels stitched together, the bottom chunk longer and wider. The entire piece is handmade, cross-stitches of textiles framed by thinner, multi-colored lines. Adorned by those same puff balls, you can make out the miniature stitching of floral diamonds. The thick strips of cotton are sewn into the top sides of the silk, the rest of it crumpling onto the ground due to their length.

Sylus sits beside you, placing his hand on your back, “Sweetie?”

“It’s…” You clear your throat, sparing a glance towards him, “Something my grandma gave me. It’s a baby carrier.”

He takes a moment to process your words, running his own calloused fingers over the beautiful textile. Family… was a precarious subject for you. While you spoke of your heritage every now and then, there was always a tinge of restraint or stumbling in your words. Even resent.

“It’s beautiful,” he tells you earnestly. He leans on his elbow, resting his chin on his hand as he gazes at you with a familiar, tender gaze. He’s patient, waiting to see if this was something you would be comfortable talking about further.

You hum pensively, flattening your hands over the carrier, “It’s called a nyais. Normally you can buy them at local the New Year festivals, but it’s more... traditional? Righteous? To have it passed down from your grandma.”

Finally, Sylus lets his demeanor falter. He’s in the clear to press further, to be more curious. He chuckles, like he would before laying out the debaucherous end of his enemies, “You don’t appear thrilled to have it in your possession.”

“I’m not ungrateful to have it, like my parents think,” you sigh. “When you’re constantly hounded about how you will have kids… it’s nauseating to have the heirlooms representative of that.”

Sylus is waiting for you to finish. You two have had discussions about the future before.

About this.

Your hands fall in your lap, and you’re failing to meet his gaze now. You’re thinking too hard—about all of this. Instead of continuing, you look back at the nyais, beginning to fold it up.

He stops you, cupping your working hands with one. Sylus clears his throat, intending to steer the conversation: “But you haven’t thrown it away.”

“I can’t bring myself to.”

You let go of the carrier, interlacing your fingers with his, “They always remind me that I used to speak so much Hmong when I was a kid. A toddler. Then it… all went away, when I got older.”

“Because you went to school. Learning an entirely different language, social customs. Things beyond your control.”

“Correct.”

“And what do you make of it?”

You grimace at first, then chuckle: “It’s kind of fucked up, isn’t it? Forgetting my own culture just to exist with others. And even then, assimilating into what is a model citizen still feels very… out of place. Like I still don’t belong.”

Sylus doesn’t say it outright—feels like he doesn’t need to—but he knows the feeling. You’ve yet to know why, your memory still a haze. So he settles for squeezing your hands a bit firmer than a second before, right along the last few words you speak.

When in Rome, as the Romans do.

He continues the conversation, “Do you think… you’d reconcile with that distance at all? The disconnect?”

The question is loaded, but effective in that it makes you consider. Reflecting on your upbringing, and how quickly everything shifted. You didn’t even think you’d end up where you are now—settled with a partner who listens to these grievances and doesn’t think you’re crazy.

But nothing of substance comes to mind.

Your gaze falls on the nyais once more, discomfort no longer present.

“I don’t know,” you finally answer—sliding into Sylus’ lap and leaning into him. Naturally, his arms wrap around you, holding you closer.

Warmth envelops you like a fireplace on a snowy day.

When parts inside of you begin to fester in emptiness, somehow Sylus always comes along at the right time. Almost like he feels the pull that something is amiss—or it’s fate’s own unique way of protecting a love meant to be. Your ancestors making up for everything you have burdened for so long.

Then, you feel it—that very warmth blossoming into something else. Something very Sylus, within the capabilities he possesses.

His smooth, timbre voice whispering into your hair: “Kuv hlub koj.”

You straighten your posture, instantly finding those crimson eyes that always had a fondness reserved for you. Your own gaze widens, blurred by tears as you smile. You laugh—and though it’s always beautiful, Sylus hears it differently.

There’s relief, a unique kind of joy incapable of being put into the right words to do it justice. He treasures it, sealing the memory with his lips brushing against yours.

I get the point of people going 'banners aren't canon/have nothing to do with the lore' but... I feel like people are using lore incorrectly. Whatever your feelings about cat boys or catch22 boys, you can't just point blank go banners have no bearing on character that's a crazy statement 😭

There is some wild hypocrisy just specifically for this banner with people who were cool af with cat boys (which was crazy like sorry how did tiny cats be so op that they could TURN OFF someone's evol and suppress it and make them grow cat features and personality traits) now going this is too AU. (Kinda the point of an AU you know? The question is what would you have to do to make a character act like this.)

But I've also seen like? Sylus' Within Reach card named as having nothing to do with the story too ('you're just measuring his ass'). Like. Are you only watching kindleds and not playing dates? His entire card is about MC worrying about his health, realising they care more than they want to, and more suggestions that Sylus 1. Truly understands them that he can read those feelings on their face or 2. Is able to see into their dreams.

That's? Character building 😭 which by definition is part of their lore.

Even cat boys showed that? Zayne being more affectionate because he didn't have to worry about his EVOL going out of control. Raffy being more honest about his desperation for MC because it was harder to hide? Xavier showing more of his anxieties over not having MC in his life. Sylus showing he does everything he does FOR MC and no one else.

You're free not to like the new banner I'm not debating that, if it's not up ur alley that's super chill and very fair, unless ur out there being weird on main to people who are excited for it, but like. Saying it will have NOTHING to offer about the characters is a batshit statement that's fully untrue.

There's a very real thing to be said that no person is fully perfect and everyone is capable of being broken down. One of Zayne's main character beats is how EVER/Xander Sciences wants him for their experiments, and the question the game presents is 'what would we have to do to make this man abandon his morals'. You're about to potentially see that EXACT scenario in catch 22.

I'm not saying 'go pull' either. I'm saying, when it comes out if you're curious watch the date on YouTube, and see what character information the story offers you because seeing all the messy complex sides of a character is absolutely fascinating.

Whether they're even going to be that dark is up for debate, but I'm fully willing to bet that they'll have something to share about the characters themselves, that adds to the little complex web of their lore and build.

I am so sick and tired of these mofos screwing Sylus and his mains over at every damn opportunity. And I don't want to see no corporate bootlickers trying to defend this like they defend everything this greedy company does. There is no excuse for this. None.

Fun and unique nicknames for our favorite dragon boy 🥰🐉

Meant to share this sooner but got distracted 😅

For a long time, I just had Sylus as ‘Hubby’ in my phone, but it didn’t feel very unique, and I wanted to make his nickname special. When his myth dropped, I immediately had an idea that lead me to lots of ways to give Sylus a nickname that really suits him and indicates the bond him and MC have :)

I play DnD, and I knew there was a partial dragon language made for the game. As soon as I saw Sylus was a dragon I raced to the wiki to study up on dragon speak, and was not disappointed.

I combed through every word currently in the draconic dictionary, and here are my favorites:

First, the best word for our purposes imo; the prefix ‘er-’, which is the possessive ‘my’ used to indicate intimate/romantic relationships

This word is an utter gift, and you’ll quickly see why. It allows for all kinds of pairings with other fun words, such as:

‘Har’, meaning echo and ‘haurach’, meaning fate.

So you could call Sylus ‘Erhaurach’, meaning ‘my fate’ ☺️

Or you could pair it with something even cuter like ‘noachi’, and call him ‘Ernoachi’, ‘my little treasure/my dear’

You can also always incorporate these into fics with dragon!Sylus himself and have him call MC these names of course!

‘Qal’ and ‘qallim’ are also fun, but ‘qallim’ can’t be paired with the ‘er-’ prefix and be grammatically correct. However I still thought it was a fun word and worth looking at.

These last few before the end (and the word I ultimately stuck with) are more useful for just compliments, but can still work as a nickname (sans the middle, just didn’t want to take two screenshots 😅)! I really love ‘vorastrix’, for obvious lore reasons. Though, unfortunately I didn’t find a word for ‘sorceress’ exactly. The last word I want to mention also has the ‘-strix’ suffix, and its gender-neutral, so I would argue the word works for any gender.

And lastly, this is the word I decided to use with the ‘er-’ prefix, and it just fits so perfectly;

So now, you can call Sylus ‘my dragon’ while simultaneously indicating your relationship status 🥰🥰

But yeah. I just thought this was a really fun and sweet way to honor Sylus’s dragon heritage, while also being really intimate and loving with him. Wanted to share in case anyone else was looking for something more special to call him. Have fun and mix and match as you like! 💕

He would never admit it, but you saved Xavier on that fateful first mission. Not from the wanderers though- He would’ve been able to defeat them all on his own, he’s lost track of how many stronger enemies he's dealt with over the years. What you saved him from was himself.

Life had become dull and monotonous for him- barely floating by and existing for the last eternity of loneliness after losing you the last time. Doing nothing more than throwing away his life against wanderers just to have some sort of purpose. You brought light back into his life once more, Just having you in his life again was more than enough. He didnt even dare to wish for more and let himself get too greedy out of fear of losing you far too soon.

But every day he got to see you for even a moment was everything he wanted and needed, it was a wonderful twist of fate that the two of you ended up being neighbors. He never went out of his way to see you, but you always happened to run into him time and time again whenever he wished to see you the most. Like fate was bringing you together

Between casual hangouts and missions together, you guys clicked hard and fast. You'd think you’ve known this man your whole life instead of just meeting earlier this year with how comfortable and natural everything is between the two of you. When did it become the norm to see him sitting on your couch reading almost every day? You can hardly remember what your life was like before he entered it.

One day the two of you are assigned a mission far away, and despite having separate hotel rooms you found yourself in his bed talking strategy and everything else late into the night. You don’t know at what point you had dozed off, but you found yourself opening your eyes early in the morning due to the sunrise pouring in. There was a sleeping figure next to you as well, with one arm gently draped over your abdomen. He looked absolutely stunning being illuminated from behind, you are almost unable to stop from gazing at his sleeping face.

You carefully reach out a hand to brush some hair out of his eyes to get a better view and he starts to stir a little, pulling you close to him while muttering that it’s too early to get up. Your heart is racing at the closeness. You could spend the rest of your life right there in his arms, it just felt it was where you belonged. Wrapping your arms around him in return, you press a gentle kiss on the top of his head.

Xavier doesn’t talk about himself all that much, greatly preferring to listen to anything and everything you have to say. You always found that odd, you loved to yap on about everything you like after all but you can’t seem to think of anything in particular he does that same for.

“Is there something on my face?” he asks, snapping you out of your thoughts “Oh Sorry, I was just thinking that I don’t know much about you….” “You don’t?” He tilts his head as he thinks “Hmm well just ask me what you want to know. I’ll glady tell you anything” “Then let’s start with an easy one, what’s your favorite movie?” “I don’t remember the name, but I’ll have to say the one you showed me last week” “That's my favorite movie Xavier, you always just agree with the things I like.. I want to know what you like” “But you were the one who showed me it, so of course I’m gonna like it.” he leans in close and gently places a hand on top of yours “And I like anything to do with you” Your face starts to flush bright red, and the only thing you can think of as a response is to nod and clasp your hand around his.

It was like Pandora's box was opened- neither of you could deny your feelings for the other any longer, and it was impossible to tell who was the more clingy about it. Sneakily holding hands at HQ when nobody was looking, spending entire days in his arms as he reads aloud the latest book he got, and not to mention the fact you'd often spend more time at his apartment than your own.

 He's a strong and capable hunter, and while you know this you cant help but worry about him on missions. He's of course the exact same to you, neither of you want to lose the other. When you are paired on missions together its like an internal battle to protect the other the most, sure its not the standard way to deal with wanders but you both have the lowest record of injuries as of late because of it.

But every day was nothing but pure bliss with him by your side, you guys were in perfect sync. He always knew exactly what you wanted- sometimes before you even realized it yourself. It was almost like he could read your mind, he just knows you so well. If he could spend the rest of his long life taking care of your every need he would.

Perhaps if he ever told you the whole history behind your shared fate, you could realize just how much love he has for you. How absolutely broken and alone he was before you appeared in front of him again. How willingly he would die for you or destroy the world just to keep you by his side for a moment longer.

You trust him with your life, and let him lead your relationship into each next step without a second thought. From a surprise first kiss one morning before he left on a mission, to everything beyond that. Nothing felt rushed or like you weren't ready for it. The absolute perfect relationship with the perfect man of your dreams.
