I recently posted a World of Wooster print on my art blog and was pretty shocked to get more than three notes on it! Since a few people showed some interest/curiosity about the show I wanted to make a more informational post here as well. This 20-episode series aired on the BBC from 1965-67, but the majority of it has unfortunately been lost/wiped. One episode, The Delayed Exit of Claude and Eustace, exists in full and is available on youtube. The other episode is Jeeves and the Indian Summer of an Uncle, which various sources say is archived, or in a private collection, or that only 7 minutes exist, or that only a few clips exist. The above clip, taken from the 2011 Wogan on Wodehouse documentary, is the only one I've ever seen, but I shall keep on holding out hope that maybe someday someone will release another couple seconds.

Contradicting to popular belief, Dennis is a very selfless person. Although when you first start the series, where he is depicted to be a very shallow person, only joining because he likes Makima and wants girls to fall for him (or some sort it's been a while since I've read the front).

As you read on you will realise the compassion he has. Despite being not even close to human since the start, and having to deal with the burden of killing his father, the death of his mother and living in the slumps, only longing for a normal life, he is one of the kindest people in the story (perhaps because he doesn't have a human heart anyways).

For example, he has kept Makima's dogs even though they are part of a past I would believe he doesn't want to remember. He kept them for Nayuta's sake AND for the dogs because he considers them a part of Nayuta's past + if he left the dogs behind they might go to someone abusive. From this example, we can see that he is kind because even though he could abandon the dogs (and meowy but he wouldn't do that because it serves as a memory of power whom he misses very much) which would help with his financial position, he didn't.

Example two, Nayuta. In the aquarium date chapter, Asa asks why Denji is so obsessed with selling things and making money. He answers that he wants to save money so that Nayuta can go to college because he believes that she has the potential and he wants her to have a normal life which he did not have. This shows he truly does care about Nayuta and that he brought her up well. The way that Nayuta acts is a product of it. Denji has created a space for her where she can express her emotions freely and grow up as a free being (maybe I'll do an analysis of her eventually and also he learnt all this from aki definitely I'm gonna cry)

In the recent chapter (chapter 133), it is shown that Denji chose to not transform into Chainsawman even though it is something he loves to do, something that brought him happiness because he is worried about Nayuta's life he wouldn't know what to do if he lost another person. He was willing to do degrading things (ie: yoshida scene btw i hate him now he was pretty at the start but now he's so annoying) for her and I really really admire that from him.

As said by Dennis himself, he does not fight for anyone, he has died again and again but he's never stopped and he was named my the people themselves in time of need. I think he is heartbroken they would take out a fake Chainsawman who stands for things he doesn't stand for, (because, again, denji doesn't have a human heart and I don't believe he has morals...) and I think he deserves better :)

Oh my god, listen, I could talk about it for days and I am working on a whole thinkpiece on it paired with Mikey And Nicky (1976) because those two are the two sides of the same coin to me. But The American Friend in particular is just ahhhhhh, so I first watched it in 2020 and I didn't think about it that much, I found it neat, well made, well acted, but I've watched it like 5 times since then and it is honestly mindblowing to me at this point.

Like the post itself? It fucks, Nick @csny said it all in so few words that it's insane. That's really the dynamic of the scene. Just two guys on the train with a specific energy when it comes to their connection killing a guy together. Sex.

As per the movie as a whole, I'll go into some details under the cut

It's everything. Like yeah, it's an adaptation of a novel that was adapted once more, in 2002 and I watched it and it simply didn't compare. It was just a perfect moment in time for The American Friend to be created. And I can't settle on my favourite scene, to be honest, it comes down to the scene in Paris metro, aka just the perfect, long, tense since with absolutely no dialogue, the train scene and the scene towards the end when Jonathan and Tom giggle in the darkness aka 'I'm thinking about you all the time' scene which is the perfect encapsulation of what friendship really is. Sometimes it is just giggling innthe dark together. Wim Wenders himself did say that he introduced changes due to the friendship between Bruno Ganz and Dennis Hopper that developed after their initial dislike for each other.

And listen, I've read the novel mere days ago, there are some reasonable changes that work greatly. In the case of the film, Wenders made it work as a standalone film rather than an adaptation of the third novel in the series. And not just that, he incorporated some elements from the second book as well! And he did it seamlessly. It's a good, strong thriller that also serves as a study of one friendship. And it's gorgeous, it's even fun and it just hits that spot for me, you know?

Like I could go into whole character studies and how Jonathan is literally a man sentenced to death due to his illness and how Tom might as well be dead due to how miserably lonely he is all the time, and yet, at this perfect moment in time, their connection ends up bringing both of them back to life in order to take someone else's life so that Jonathan's family could have something after he inevitably dies.

I did lose a lot of sleep because of this movie, not only because a couple months ago I stayed up until 6 AM making that I Pity The Poor Immigrant edit, but also just thinking about it and how it all lines up and I still feel like I have a lot of thinking to do, but this is all I have for now.

Btw the outfits aren't necessarily what they would have been wearing the night of the fire, but they're based on what they were wearing that night (I didn't want to just do pajamas for M or any coats)

M'Anne - The slippers are the same as Anne's, that's about it. The rest of it is just midcentury-dad-around-the-house because it's as close as I could get to Anne's housecoat. How come Anne has no other outfits in the game 😒

Jane - She gets to have some cat-eye glasses as a treat ✨ (We do not try to make sense of her left arm. The watch is visible and that's all I care about at this point ☠)

Terry - Or his left arm. His shirt is reminiscent of Tanya's uniform but not a uniform. I thought about switching things up and giving him a sun necklace and her a moon keychain but I didn't feel like putting him in a necklace, I wanted his sideburns to be the main fashion-forward thing on him

Violet - Corduroy like Vince's coat, except it's a dress and not a coat. Also cinnamon colored stockings, which were having a moment in the early 70s

Dana - So the og plan was the jacket tied around her waist, but somehow I didn't like how it turned out so I did another version (I do like both of them now tho). It actually would have worked to just copy-paste Dennis's whole outfit for her but that's not what I'm here for

Alison - Corduroy again, like Anthony's pants. The dress is a slightly dated style to channel the vibes of his pilly janked-up "should have let go of this a year ago but I still like it" sweater (Anthony's sweater my beloved 💙)

Martin - Based on what Megan wears in the family photo but trying to keep the shirt reminiscent of her nightgown (don't question the pattern lol, pre-made brush). I went with the little girl's red for the sneakers and some good old 1970s plum-colored pants because I like Megan in purple

About the names, I'm not terribly concerned with them but I figured the same amount of syllables and order of emphasis (as much as possible) is more important to me than exact male/female counterparts, I guess it has to do with vibes and being able to hear canon lines the same way just with the names replaced, idk.

I do like Terry and Martin for those two because those names were huge when the Clarke kids were born, and Jane, Violet, and Dana are ok too but the A's are causing problems, especially for a man so it'll just have to be anything else that wasn't used for an A-boy in the game. Like I said I'm not terribly concerned with it but I'm open to suggestions, otherwise it's just "M'Anne" lol

"Gary Meet Dave" 3x3, that's the "previously on ap bio"… "next time on ap bio"… episode and I have a lot to chat about:

I love that the writers attempted such a wild concept like that. It took me a while to get immersed into the plot because it was setting up and cutting between so many stories: the students' drug money and cocaine subplot, the three teachers' dead guy subplot, Jack's mission to chainsaw massacre a bird but also solve the drug money case with his students ("Does anyone know where I can buy a gun?... Probably everywhere, right?" XD),... but by the time the cold open wrapped up around 10 minutes in, I was like, ooooh I see how the interweaving is gonna happen and I'm invested now! Helen and Durbin's story was maybe the least interesting until they started to go around questioning everyone else, connecting all the plot threads.

Jack-and-his-students shenanigans are the heart of the show to me and it was nice to see so many of the students getting things to do in this one! How does Jack get to be one of the craziest but also kind of the straight man?! So Dennis-core. "I'll take the fall" chain ending with Marcus was dramatic and amusing.

How did you feel about the Lynette and Joyce "homewrecker hussy" subplot? I thought it was good seeing her get into shenanigans with her office colleague outside her life with Jack. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion (idk?), but I fluctuate between really liking Jack and Lynette together in some episodes to wishing the show did a best friends arc for them instead of a romantic one, haha but that might also just be my ace brain on most series/movies.

The teacher trio's PLAY actually paying off in the end!!! The cocaine dropping from the ceiling! "It's pure baking flour!" The janitor Dale and Coach subplot was surprisingly funny! I didn't care for those characters much when they were introduced but they've really grown on me (btw I'm 95% sure those two actors were also writers on the show). Joyce and Lynette setting up the story of Jack as a cheater who is bad at sex for Joyce's followers! Even the little Gary and Dave threads made me laugh.

Sorry this ask kinda got away from me a little bit. Did this episode work for you? Which bits and which subplots did you like most? Least? (I know you're not an ap bio blog but I did a rewatch recently and I don't know who else I can talk to about it hehe)

i'll be real i watched this episode for the first time whacked outta my mind on wine and i full on couldn't comprehend it. i had to rewind it and watch it sober. i liked the departure from typical episode format, and how it made the school feel much more vibrant and interconnected than previous episodes by giving us this sense of all the plots overlapping/interweaving/happening at the same time. I liked Gary and Dave's plot, the students' plot, and Lynette and Joyce's plot the most. Like you said, it was really great to get to see Lynette doing something that didn't involve Jack, and the way she was so willing to throw his good name under the bus for a joke was SO them. I'm glad AP Bio let Lynette be a little unhinged/amoral in that moment instead of having her defend Jack or something because Jack wants a scheme partner more than anything.

I've read this so many times and it's like...I find such an odd sense of comfort in it? Charlie is a character I relate to a lot and seeing him written as having violent intrusive thoughts but also having someone in his life that would take him willingly and with care into his arms.

It made me feel...seen. And I keep a bit of hope with me all the time because of it. Warning- it made me cry so it might affect you in such way as well !!

Y'all are gonna start noticin' a trend here- this is story made me cry like a motherfucker.

But more importantly, it handled the Archie/Grundy relationship so much better than the series ever did, and even though the bulk of the trauma is placed on Arch...how it effects even his friends. The author actually treats them like teenagers. Like kids. It shows their mistakes and actions but not in an reprehensible light or they could do nothing wrong- but just kids who didn't quite know what they were doing and didn't have the resources to deal with all of it and yet? Kept trying anyways.

25. a fic you read this year you would recommend everyone read

again. I read a lot less horror this year than previous ones. However, for my fellow age regressors- or just people who like a bit of sweetness in their life- I would highly recommend checking out CyberToddler's work!

Oh my gosh, they have so many good fics surrounding our favorite Ghostface boys taking care of their partner. But it's done in a such a natural way that works so well with the characters and even still references horror stuff without it being too triggering if you're small while reading.

One in particular really caught my attention and I think is a brilliant way to get acquainted with her work.

Movie Night- pretty much how the title sounds. It goes through the intricate and gentle details of the relationship and how the typical movie night will go with their young one. Also, did I mention these stories are all gender neutral?

Right, here we go. (It bears repeating that I really did read A LOT. My choices for this project represent those writers and books that truly changed and impressed my reading habits. I can't always explain it. I'm sure you have the same experience with musicians. The eye openers.

Italo Calvino: delightful discovery that intelligent fairy tales for adults exist. I was about 14 when I came across him first, if I remember rightly. Unforgotten: Bradamante and Agilulf 😍, The Cloven Visconte and The Baron in the Trees.

Umberto Eco: if you haven't read The Name of the Rose yet - why not! (Mind, the English version is not as lovingly presented as the German one. Even our paperback came with an added Dramatis Personae. Yes, the film is great, but it's not a patch on the book. (For months I imagined myself to be a monk in medieval Italy.😊 And later Eco wrote Foucault's Pendulum. I was enthralled. But alas, it hasn't aged that terribly well. 🤷‍♀️)

Stanislav Lem: You've most likely heard of Solaris. Unfortunately the English translation leaves much to be desired. 😭 (Technically of course it makes no difference if someone "looks" at the stars, or if he "gazes upon" them, but come on, translator! The English language is beautiful! Use it properly! Even if the writer is just Polish, and you want to spit on him- make a bit of an effort! 🤨)

My favourite actually was "Eden", and "The Diaries of Ijon Tichy". Dunno what the translation is like. (Actually I might just re-read 'Eden'. As I've finished re-reading Millfarm. 😊)

And Asterix. 🤩 Not that I understood all the funny references on first reading, of course. But funny history lessons in comic form? What's not to like. (Nerver got into Tintin, for some reason. Don't know why. I just didn't get them)

Thank God I'm off till the weekend now. (And still symptom free, even though I was a close contact to someone with the virus 🙏 Long may it last) So I might get in another installment this week. We'll see. Nobody else seems to like it. But I do. 😜

More Little Hope models 🤩

This post has been in my drafts for a long time lol but HariboStixx on deviantart posted a bunch of extracted LH models! I come bearing some pics and commentary but go look at the rest of them because there's quite a few.

YOUNG VINCE MY BELOVED. I love him and his corduroy coat. You can get a hint of the western style seams on the front, and now I see that's a denim jacket under the coat instead of a shirt. I LOVE. Unfortunately his pants and shoes are just the ones from his funeral outfit (which is clearly a duplicate of Anthony's funeral outfit, a true fashion faux pas) so unfortunately that doesn't say what he was "really" wearing.

Passerby seems to be wearing a suit under that coat. And btw only recently did I come across a playthrough bright enough to notice that his coat has a belt that's undone and dangling at the sides. I really want to know about him and what he was doing on that night 😂 Also his pants are a good 20 years out of date but we love him in spite of it (or maybe because of it).

About time we get a full view of Wyman lol. Lookit all those snazzy buttons 😁 (They must catch on things all the time.)

Is Taylor's watchband red in the game? I don't think so but if it is it's a nice nod to Tanya's red bracelet.

David was executed because he's been flaunting his collarbones in public. Tsk tsk, David. Cloth hose though instead of the other guys' knitted ones, fun detail.

Joseph's top layer thing looks like it was a pretty fancy garment at one point. There's a lot of (faded?) detailing down the front and around the armholes, which would have to be done by hand and that's a lot of effort for something a farmer will be bumming around in. And something was ripped out of the armholes (which shows better in the game), maybe sleeves that wore out before the rest of the garment and didn't get replaced. I don't know much about clothing in this era but anyway it's such a deliberate design choice. I love Joseph's outfit and I wish the devs would post his model so we can get closeups of the proper textures on it.

I need help. Is Abraham's outfit actually blue in the game? Obviously some of the colors aren't accurately represented here but other extracts I've seen of his model are blue. It just kind of looks brown in the game to me.

Anne with red hair again. Honestly the more I look at it in-game with enough brightness it looks like a shade of red there too. I'm slowly starting to consider that Anne's hair may be red enough to be related to the fact that they adopted a red-haired kid 🤔

Lastly, vehicles. Words cannot express. How much I LOVE the Clarke's station wagon. Just, them, in that car. (Imagine road trips.) Anyway I finally have a clear enough view of it so... yes, I tried to find a real-world make, and, just like Vince's car, I don't think it exists. The lights and grills are never comparable, but ignoring the structure the vibe works for a good chunk of the 1960s, which means I get to imagine at least some of the Clarke kids learning to drive in it 😊
