Inanimate Insanity Episode 16 Spoilers!!!!

its been like, two days since episode 16, and people are already arguing about Mephone's age. He is a child, and this didnt come out of nowhere guys, he's always BEEN a child:

^Brian reposting art (amazing art btw<3) where Mephone is described as a CHILD and drawing in a childish way.

^Brian saying that Mephone is so young he doesn't even know how to SPELL.

Now; heres some stuff ive been hearing in argument against him being a child.

"Cobs is infantilizing him." I agree with this to a certain extent, he is acting like Mephone is a child who cant comprehend anything like an abusive parent. but thats where it stops. Children can ALSO be infantlized! But aside from that, Cobs even says; "I forgot how young you are!" Parents don't say that to their adult children, because it makes no sense unless Mephone is a child.

Secondly, why would Brian and Justin be doing the same thing? They say he's young!

"He has an adult voice." Robots don't hit puberty! This means nothing. Unless youre saying that the creators implied hes an adult because hes voiced by an adult, well i'll have to refer you to the images above.

"He hosts an entire show." Arguably not very well, also again, he's a robot, and also, theyre on an island! its not like you need a permit to film on a random island in god knows where. Any child can "host" a show if they have enough determination, general knowledge of how they work, and equipment, and would you know it Mephone has all three! He knows how they work because he watched them in meeple, and he can generate any equipment he needs.

"He's a robot, he doesn't have an age." True..? sort of...? But the thing is, being legally defined as a child is based off your mental capacity. Children arent as mentally/emotionally intelligent as grown adults, because they don't have the life experience nor the capacity to be. Mephone barely has ANY life experience, he grew up in Meeple, and then started the show immediately after leaving. And obviously, in Inanimate Insanity (and all object shows), robots are almost always sentient beings, unlike real life.

"He's much more mature than a child, especially one that couldn't spell." Debatable! First of all, he thinks things like 'going to jail for one day' and 'the calm down corner' are terrible punishments, like children. If you tell a child to go sit on the stairs for 5 minutes and frame it as a punishment, they will take it as serious as anything else. Secondly, he literally decided to make a random species of bat.. things? fight to the death because they ate his four month old ice cream. No mature person would do that... Thirdly, abused children ACT more mature than others because they HAVE to be. Abused children are not ALLOWED to act like children. They have to be mature for themselves because who else is going to be? Who else is going to take care of you when your parent doesn't? But that doesn't mean they arent still a child.

So now we tread into questionable territory. Is it okay to deny the idea that he is a child at all costs, just so you can ship him or sexualize him? There is really no other reason why you would deny that he is a child.

Now obviously; lets not harass anyone who has drawn ship art of him or sexualized him in the past. This stuff was not commonly known, most people thought he was an adult. But if you look deeper, he isn't.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk, if anyone reads this far (￣^￣)ゞI know I usually only post art, but this is an important topic to me as i am very hyperfixated on Mephone4 i swear i can't control it guys!!

Their name is Hada, fun fact: i never finished the drawing i made so i kinda had to pick some colors in the spot, well, i picked some from the old reference since that was a redesign (you might have seen the one i did of the other) they are based on a big fin squid....

Voiceplay Visuals: Dream On

Perhaps a bit of a shorter post than some of my recent/previous ones, but Voiceplay's video for Dream On is certainly far from dull, and the arrangement (a collaboration between Rob Dietz and Geoff) is absolutely killer!

The video for Dream On was released on the 9th of April, 2022, and features Omar Cardona, back again!

Don't have a ton to say about outfits/costuming in this one (though shoutout to Geoff, who is credited with "costuming look", as well as co-direction and overall video (he's a polymath genius I swear)), but might as well "shine a spotlight" on everyone individually, since I don't expect to have a lot to say for this video otherwise, and the vocalists all start off by themselves in the video before "banding together".

Hey Geoff isn't the only one with exposed shoulders for once! 😝

Cesar is, yet again, a style icon. And according to an interview he did with Mortius (that was simultaneously a reaction video for Dream On), the little "smoky eye"/eyeliner look he's got going on here was his idea! Love that for him!

(Also shoutout to Rick Underwood for yet again being a makeup whiz!)

HOWEVER. i did not understand that "more like [title]" meant that. if you click on the link you will see more art LIKE that piece. i thought it was the actual titles of the pieces. i had no idea what "more like flareon" meant but i thought it sounded cool and all these cool artists are saying it so i wanna write it too. except i was stupid and forgot the phrasing so i wrote "just like flareon" lmao

I love this opening so much. Creative and accurate to how old computers start up.

The smooth transition between these two images was so good. From old and grainy footage to the smooth and clear "reality". Also the water animation was amazing!

Words of wisdom from Mahito. Something to think about more because I can't believe I forgot this detail that jujutsu/sorcery may be bending reality to a sorcere's will as well. After all, the way Gojo's ability works is "bring Infinity" into reality - he acknowledges that technically "infinity" isn't real but his powers make it so anyway.

So, logically, the world of JJK functions the same ways as ours in terms of physics but sorcerers can play around it with their CTs. 🤔

The only reason why curse users would go all out is because they know Gojo isn't there anymore. This also applies to You-Know-Who as well. I swear the only reason he did what he did recently in the manga is because the ultimate threat to his You-Know-What is finally eliminated thru cheating with the CT he stole.

The fact that Kokichi acknowledges that he did wrong, expressed regrets, and worked hard to redeem himself is why he is one of my faves. I'd defend his bad choices! And he is much better than Sugu-!

I find Gojo's overwhelming faith disturbing. It's sweet but disturbing nonetheless.

Yay, I have finished it, even if I thought the writing like two times and I forgot what I was actually going to write both times. It has a bit of fearplay and the end is fluff. Also this is a bit short ;-;

With a heavy sigh he left the Striker on one of the shores, hidden from view, he didn't want to get in trouble with the Marines in the early hours of the morning. Little did he know that his boat would have a visitor shortly after he left.

The borrower watched intently as the human walked away, climbing onto his boat when he disappeared completely from sight. It took a bit of time due to her size, but after a few minutes, she finally managed to get inside and try to hide as best she could. All she wanted right now was to get away from this disgusting island and stay hidden from the humans.

She brushed her hair off her shoulders, sitting on one of the inner corners of the small boat, while both of her hands gripped the straps of her backpack/bag.

It wasn't long before Ace was back on the boat, standing still before climbing onto it. Although he couldn’t see inside completely, he knew someone/something was there and he didn't like that at all, as it could be a threat. 

He crouched low and leaned over the floor of the Striker as his left hand caught fire. Immediately there was a scream from there and he leaned in fully to see, his eyes widening at the sight of a person who seemed to be no bigger than his hand.

He quickly put out the fire in his hand, slowly reaching towards the person to pick her up. The tiny only pressed further into the corner. When Ace was about to reach her… “No! no no no no! Stay away! Do not touch me!" The tiny girl yelled, tears beginning to fall from her eyes, hugging herself as she tried to get further away from Ace, even though she knew she couldn't.

Ace sighed as he passed his hand, which he had just moved away from the little person, over his face. "Look, uh... I'm not going to hurt you, okay? I just thought you were an enemy or something that had snuck into my boat, I didn't think you were a tiny girl..." If he was honest, he really felt bad about scaring a girl who wasn't even bigger than his hand.

The girl looked at him for a moment, before wiping away her tears. "You promise?" Ace smiled widely seeing that she intended to trust him. "Sure, although, can I ask you what were you doing inside my boat?" She looked away for a moment before replying. “I got on here because I want to leave this island, I don't want to be here anymore…” Ace nodded in understanding.

"It seems understandable to me, although I don't think you would like being down there, that area is going to be completely filled with fire." The tiny girl's green eyes widened in shock. "Of fire? So where should I go?" She asked as she let herself be picked up by the human.

"I could hold you all the way back to the ship." he answered with a smile. "To the ship? Are you a pirate? If so, I don't think-” Ace simply cut her off. "Yes, I am a pirate, I belong to the Shirohige pirates crew and don't worry, they will surely love to meet you, especially the pineapple head." He said with a small laugh.

OH MYGOD ITS MANGLE ITS MANGLE FROM [FNAF] OH MY GODDDD MAGNLE HI MANGJKHEDFIUSKHIOFKJSDOLK

this is a redraw of stuff i drew when i was 11/12 look below the cut (be warned it looks like an 11 or 12 year-old drew it)

the uhh “rose took my nose” thing is a reference to the scorch trials bc the maze runner series was crucial to middle school me. unfortunately i only remember the basic plot of it . but anyways MANGLE OH MYG DO MNALGE !!! MANGLEEE !!!! that is jeremy there too btw. 

i wanna explain my process ok  ok im gonna do an artist statement here get ready 

In this piece, of which i have titled “MANGLE OH MY GODDDD MANGLE,” I intended to test myself and show my improvement between the years of 2015 and 2022. That is a whole 7-year difference. I think, by putting some good-ol’ effort in, I definitely show my improvement. Instead of the single-character subject of Mangle from FNAF, I decide to add Jeremy Fitzgerald from the same series into the picture, as (likely) Mangle absolutely wrecks his shit. My favorite decisions made while drawing this include: Chalk tool + blur tool + gradient overlay layer for shading, some funky little lighting on the line art, and a little desaturated red layer I put in to give it a “velvety” (?) effect. The red layer feels crucial, as without it, the line art was much too dark. That layer definitely brought the colors together more. 

If I were to draw this again, I wouldn’t change much. Mostly just do more thinking when coloring over the line art, as it looks a little weird on Jeremy and I completely forgot about Mangle’s 2nd head </3. I’d also probably draw the pizzas onto the wall (I didn’t because I simply did not feel like it). 

Overall a very good drawing. I am inclined to mention that I failed to consider the composition technique “the rule of thirds,” which definitely could’ve been used here. But I am also inclined to say “guzzle these nuts” because this was supposed to be a lot more simpler than it ended up being. It was very fun nonetheless.

Hiei’s Jaganshi Form

This post is in response to some anon questions, specially:

“Has Togashi said anything about Hiei's jaganshi form like why it didn't appear for the rest of the series? It only appears in the spirit detective saga and in the yyh film.”

So, I’ll start sharing the official data from the “YYH Official Characters Book - Special Note - Looking through everything with the forehead’s evil eye!” (p.17, 2005)

“Hiei is a youkai commonly referred to as the ‘jagan-shi’ (The Evil Eye Master).  He has a third eye on his forehead which allows him to master a variety of abilities such as clairvoyance, spell binding and brainwashing.”

“Although he doesn't show it too often, it's also possible to fully unleash the demon power to "transform", boosting his fighting abilities many times over. Perhaps, because it’s an acquired power and after he started controlling the flames, which is his inherent ability, he doesn't actively take on this form anymore.”

So, that’s the official information! I’ve been reading on some foreign sites that Togashi had stopped drawing this form because he didn’t like it at all. I’ve never seen him saying that (although it makes sense lol) and I’m still searching in old JUMPs and asking older fans to see if I can find any remarks and official sources from the author himself. At the moment, it’s just a theory from the fans. I believe if he had really said that, this info would be in the databook.

The official databook’s explanation makes sense and I think it reflects Togashi’s opinion. Hiei had lost all his youki after the jagan surgery, going from an A-class youkai to nothing. It was expected of him to use the jagan’s power, an acquired power in his favor to boost his strength, as he was too weak at that moment to summon the flames, his original power from birth. We also saw Kurama easily destroying his jaganshi shape after damaging his forehead’s eye with blood. It didn't seem a very efficient form in the end.

Another point to consider is that Togashi said in some interviews that he wasn’t sure about Hiei becoming a major character at first. So, after he really became a protagonist, Togashi designed an even cooler power for him, the flames and the Dragon of the Darkness Flame. In my opinion, it was pointless to draw him in the jaganshi form and releasing the dragon at the same time. Eventually, the green-eyed shape was abandoned.

Edit: I completely forgot about the interview to JUMP GIGA (2016), which Kishimoto-sensei (Naruto) says Sasuke was inspired by Hiei. Togashi actually said if he had known Hiei was going to be an ally at first, he wouldn’t have drawn the eyeballs. It was thanks to his first editor, the late Mr. Takahashi, that Hiei became a main character.

As for the movie (Poltergeist Report), it’s not cannon, it wasn’t written by Togashi and I bet every fan had fun in the movies watching Hiei in his jaganshi form again and releasing “don’t know how many” dragons in a row, something that never happened in the manga. They had to sell tickets!

Hmm tbh I wasn't going to draw them, just because I usually don't in my art style. But! I went digging through some reference photos of him and it does look like a pretty prominent feature of his face, so i went back and added them! I think it makes it look more like him now LOL

I keep forgetting that the version of Val that exists in my own weird web of headcanons/interpretations/what-if-scenarios is less stupid than the canon version. Anyway I was definitely thinking of Mev vs the King when I sent you "I Thought You Were Dead" and really like the thought of a soundtrack shifting from some punchy alt-rock beats as the Unveiled fight Team Good Guy to this droning, ominous Witch House as the King floats down from above and all of Roarhaven seems to fall silent. (1)

Lmao mood, I had a better version of adult Val in my head too where her experiences as Darquesse had humbled her, made her quieter, calmer and more diplomatic and instead of her coping by working out (that's how men handle depression, not women btw) she has a slight alcohol problem, which admittingly is inspired by Jessica Jones bc one Val roleplayer used to use her as her face-claim for Val. You can see in my old art that I used to draw her with this calm, melancholic elegance, instead of depicting her as the violent, hot-headed brute she canonly is in phase 2. But that was before phase 2 started and now I hate both Val and Skul. I view them as brutish, stupid, evil and their powers/demi-god status as undeserved.

Oh fuck yes, I'm imagining it in my head and that's so good. Tho that song only fits in the beginning with the Unnamed floating down and him and Mev seizing each other up, slowly approaching each other, Mev’s grip tightening around the handle of the Godkiller sword, muscles tensed and ready to pounce. The moment of silent tension lasts longer than in canon before they finally attack each other and the music shifts to a more fast paced and aggressive tone than the song in the beginning. And next the camera should follow the fight up close instead of viewing it from afar like in the book. And the atmosphere should be something like the bridge scene in 'Arcane' episode 7 when Jinx approaches, just, the mood was so well done I almost cried happy artists tears, I'm so not used to getting the good stuff anymore and Arcane just spoiled me so much <3333

Like, screw live-action and screw 2D animation, highly stylised 3D animation like 'Into the Spidervers' and 'Arcane' is where it's at; every single frame looks like a fucking masterpiece <333

A Masterpost: ALL MY OLD die ärzte (aka Bela&Farin) COMICS (from 2010-2011)

I’ve lately been talking about my art, especially comics, here a lot but I have never posted my OLD old dä comics here! That’s about to change now. The old ones happened in 2010-2011 when I was 19-20 years old, so they are a bit cringy now :D The scans are my old ones so don’t mind about cat hair or something like that in some of the scans. And I know: my hand writing hasn’t really changed in the past 10-15 years at all :DD

And a slash warning (do I really need that with this fandom tho..?) because I used to draw just very fluffy Bela/Farin comics and they barely have any good plots even. There’s just 4 overall in this post and they all are quite short. But at least for me it’s fun to see how far I have come and how I’ve gotten better at drawing!

Anyway, without further ado, this is where it all started:

Bela&Farin - “Du willst mich küssen”

Simply the idea came from the fact I noticed that on the “Du willst mich küssen” single there’s only one additional song: “Die Antwort bist du”, and that one out of all the potential other songs from the studio album. (Now I’m wondering if I should try to redraw this some day to see my progress? :DD)

Bela&Farin - Bela will ein Baby

(eng. Bela wants to have a baby)

This one was the first I did in German and I traumatized myself. I had just started learning German and totally failed everything and an (old) online friend, native German, wrote something that indicated laughing and I felt so insecure about my German after that that even today I have a fear of saying/writing even simple German words in front of native Germans. She anyway “beta read” the plot and corrected every faulty phrase (aka every phrase) and this is what she suggested that I’d write, and that’s what I did.

The plot shortly: Bela just wants to have a baby but he wants it with Farin obviously, so Farin says they’re both men and can’t reproduce together but Bela found a solution: he found them a surrogate mother. Problem solved.

Bela&Farin - “Beer Belly”

Prepare yourself for a cringe overload :)) I’m so sorry that you have to suffer through this.

With this the idea came from the live videos I was watching back then - lots of live videos from 2007-2009 and I noticed that Bela just kept growing and losing his belly all the time. (OMG HELP I’m crying because “SQUEAK SQUEAK” XDDDDDD)

Also the ending is... I don’t know what is it. I guess I just wanted Rod ot make an appearance and didn’t come up anything better than this ::D My peak of humour is right there btw: anything that happens at the background. That shit just never gets old for me. So I find that still funny in this comic but I have no clue how a bass can be pregnant.

Also hey, I have started drawing shadows :DD

And yes, Bela actually did have a cow t-shirt like that in some of the videos and I just had to draw it! And btw, the reason for the fluff is probably because the concerts where those videos were from? It was extremely slashy, Bela and Farin barely could keep their hands off of each other so you really can’t blame me for all this. The ship just sails itself.

Bela&Farin - “Zucker”

(eng. “Sugar” - this one was again in German because it wouldn’t work in English. This time I think I did all the language stuff myself but I can’t remember for sure so maybe I got help, maybe I didn’t... This is the last one of these old comics and my personal favorite. You can see that my style somehow went through some major changes but I don’t know what even happened there. I can’t remember.)

I can’t get over Farin’s hair in the last panel, I drew it so perfectly and I still don’t know how to recreate that lol. And now I’m losing it at that tiny “XD” in the grin panel because I found it so stupid looking - the first time I had even drawn a grin for him lmao. Also ignore Farin’s arm that has suddenly lost all its color. (Aka: someone forgot to color it.)

THE IDEA for this comic is simply in the name of brown sugar. At least in Finnish that is called as “fariinisokeri”, which always amuses me still after 12 years because I am a bit simple sometimes, and I figured that it can also be called “Farinzucker” in German so of course I needed to make a Bela/Farin comic about it.

The dialog for those who don’t speak German (too well) yet - Bela just goes to Farin to ask for “Farin sugar” and Farin first is like “nope” but then “jk” and they lived happily ever after. Or something.

BONUS:

Something I drew with a ballpoint pen once when I was visiting my aunt and cousin and was bored and doodled this. I like drawing repeated patterns like brick walls or apparently also flowers.

And I have no idea where did I draw this - maybe it was something to do with one course through the employment agency as I tend to doodle when in any kind of class. I feel like I had been watching “Die band, die sie Pferd nannten” prior to this, based on Bela’s looks.

And it was back in 2010, I didn’t have a smart phone yet so no internet to use for reference photos :D

So, back to the comics - I only made these 4 back then but before this I did draw other stuff and comics too. I drew several of them as horses when I still didn’t know how to draw humans, and I also have one of them as rats too. The rat one might work as a redrawn human comic, tho... Anyway, at some point I got annoyed because I didn’t like drawing them as horses or rats and wanted to invent a “human style” so then one night, this happened:

The texts are mainly just me chanting how I’m dying from laughter etc. That is actually what I do when I am very insecure of what I do and then I just start openly laughing at everything and myself, that way things don’t feel as bad failures than what they actually are :D (And yeah I know the article is wrong at some point, let’s just say I hadn’t memorized all the article stuff from German yet :D I don’t know if I had even started learning German yet at that point.)

But yeah, then I did find the style and these are the next sketches from my sketchbook:

The bottom left says “facial experessions” - and oh my god I was so damn cringe whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy---

but anyway, those were what I ended up with eventually and the rest is history. I think I’m still gonna make one post with stuff I drew in 2018 and that I haven’t posted here yet as there’s still a few of those, too.
