storytime! i lost 50/50 to welt on acheron's rerun, so pulling sunday ended up being vv anticlimactic since it's guaranteed. he came home at soft pity – at 74 pity, i think? that's nothing remarkably early but you know what is???? HIS LC!!! it came home at exactly 10 pity and coincidentally, those 10 pulls were also the only ones i had left. i was expecting to grind the whole patch to reach pity. and now i don't, so i give my thanks to sunbro! i can hear him cringing at that but idc 🙏 /j

building him was a swift process too!!! it only took me an hour bcs i already prefarmed for him for weeks and there was a double reward calyx event which helped with maxing his traces!! most of the time was spent on his relics since cavern of corrosion rng rlly hates me 😔 but anyway, for his relics, i use 4pc sacerdos and 2pc broken keel! both are his BiS if i recall and altho sunday has enough effect RES to trigger the planar set himself, it's nice that it's guaranteed to get triggered thanks to aventurine (ty my love! <3) who provides 50% effect RES for his allies. oh and it's funny that he has 4.5k HP which is a lot more than my other 5* supports LOL he's a self-sufficient king.

overall: solid 10/10! a chara with a lore that interests me (ex-antagonist to 'redeemed' ally pipeline is real looks at wanderer). CRAZY broken support capabilities (he's SS+ tier atm and i kinda agree that he's future-proof as most harmony 5* have been so far). also personally satisfied with his build. so happy i pulled him and thankful that his LC wasn't at all stubborn 😓

Started HSR part 2 of Penacony.

I still don't like Aventurine or Ratio their "bickering" was annoying as hell, I don't care if it is going to be revealed to be an act or not. I didn't care for any of their interactions.

I like that little interaction between yet another Raiden Mei expy Achron and Welt. Bro, got flashbacks when he saw her face (probably remembering his universe's Mei) but not afraid to straight up tell her that he'll disintegrate her using his black holes if she hurt the Astral fam. We love a protective dad. 🥺

Also kind of fucked up threatening her with black hole, considering her planet was destroyed by one? and she is an emenator for the Aeon of Nihility... who is a literal black hole.

Still pissed that Duke Inferno got off screened.. They gave this guy a whole trailer and everything. The Genshin equivalent to this would be if right after the Lazzo trailer when the Traveler reaches Sumeru, and Dori says "oh btw the leader of the Fatui, Pierro is dead"

Sunday can fuck right off. I hate him....I hope he becomes playable.

The Trailblazer continues to subscribe to the MCU's school of humor by having "haha funny, memes and jokes" in the most inappropriate places.

So far... I could care less about what's happening. I'm not emotionally attached to these characters (except maybe Welt) to be invested in what's going to happen to them.

my ramblings on penacony (and hsr as a whole) so far:

(btw i'm not done with it yet, i'm in the talent show portion. so spoilers up to there ahead)

so i just realized this like yesterday, but i think the name penacony is a play on penal colony? since it's a prison planet? this probably hasn't escaped many people, but it's pretty much australia, minus the part about there being people on the planet prior to it being seized by the ipc. hopefully. that said, this also fits very neatly with the savior complex and colonization that the ipc is so well known for, since britain was the one who sent their prisoners to australia. additionally, the ipc is very similar specifically to britain's "east india company".

i overall think hsr toes the line very well with having real world analogues to their worldbuilding.

on that note: holy shit the religious (catholic specifically) allegory is so blatant with sunday and robin i fucking love it. like his name is fucking sunday. and the confessional scene?? robin leaving the nest and her being so lesbian-coded (even the eye dots)! it's great. and singing being such a huge part of their religion? the hypocritical greedy underbelly of people who claim to be "the strong protecting the weak"? i could legit write an essay on penacony.

and don't get me started on the disnep allegory throughout the imagery, characters, and music; bc it fits so well with all of these themes, i love it.

also, another allegory i love in penacony, and big spoilers here for firefly: the trans subtext that's pretty much text. like i gotta find the voice line, but she literally talks about her mechanical body being something that the world wishes she had never left. about most of the world seeing her that way. when she tells blade she wanted "to be in this body for a little longer" i legit started tearing up. and literally when gallagher was looking for her, he said they were looking for a stowaway boy with grey hair. and sam, the body she's stuck in so often and how much of the world sees her, being referred to with he/him pronouns? i love her so much.

the stellaron hunters are overall such a beautiful found family of outcasts that i can't help but love them. honestly they're just a great parallel/foil to the nameless. kafka is similar to himeko, charming her way through situations. welt is like elio, maybe, that one's the most tenuous tho. maybe pompom is elio's foil, idk. obviously blade and dan heng are foils for one another. firefly and march 7th are parallels for eachother, in their shared transfemme themes, but in their likeability they're foils (sorry for the slight march hate, but being trans doesn't make you exempt from being annoying). and as for the trailblazer, they were kind of in both groups.
