Waylaid Interference Black Sails Musical Parallels | XVII. XXXII.
I spent a year rewatching Black Sails and tracking all the bits of music that repeated at any point during the show, and my findings are reinforcing that Bear McCreary is a genius and this show should have been called 'parallels that will kill you over and over again'* (tag | chronological)

This is ur invite to rant ab the sh finale,,,, 👀
THANK YOU!!!
ok SO
the obvious is that it was rushed which i dont really blame them for because they did what they could and like thank god we got the malec wedding right BUT
there were NO scenes of magnus with his family before his wedding however there were scenes of alec with his family so like????? (ofc why did i expect anything else, like im not saying alec shouldn't have scenes with his family but what about magnus??)
magnus did all the planning??? bitch no he didnt alec and magnus did it together bc theyre BOTH getting married and they BOTH are excited about it
we have this wholeass talk with fucking jace who's so surprised about the fact that ALEC IS GOING TO LIVE WITH HIS HUSBAND??? and then he's like "don't be a stranger" and we wasted minutes on this stupid talk for no reason because guess what? alec goes halfway across the world away from jace so like WHAT WAS THE POINT????? WE COULD'VE HAD MAGNUS WITH CAT, RAPHAEL AND MADZIE BUT NO (a 1 minute scene of them helping him get ready would've been ENOUGH)
we didn't even get to see magnus asking cat to be his best woman like WHY
iNSTEAD we got a fucking lorenzo redemption arc WHICH BTW wasnt even a fucking good redemption it was the typical 'the show is ending so we're going to give this character who made the main characters' lives miserable a redemption arc so that its all happy!!!!!' like fuck OFF
and then to top it all off we had fucking reyhill becoming canon which we did not need (them being gay is literally homophobic i can't) like people literally FORGOT that lorenzo made magnus' life fucking miserable (didn't allow other warlocks to help him -> magnus lost his magic, fucking took his loft when he has a MANSION) just bc he was confirmed as queer like S T O P IT
omfg also izzy deserved to be alec's suggenes like who did alec go to for magnus advice??? who wanted their happiness from the starting??? who DESERVED to be suggenes???? IZZY DID!!!! NOT FUCKING JACE (who we all know was suggenes just because hes alec's parabatai)
also um RAPHAEL DESERVED TO WALK MAGNUS DOWN THE AISLE (HIS FUCKING SON NOT MARYSE) look i get it, maryse got a bs redemption arc which she did nothing to work towards and she was the one who told magnus that alec was going to propose but omfg magnus is centuries old,,,,,,, he's wanted to be married for SO long and maryse is an ex circle member, she's killed many of his friends and his people and its such a slap in the face to not have his OWN SON walk him down the aisle instead of MARYSE
WE GOT MADZIE DANCING WITH LORENZO INSTEAD OF MAGNUS AND CAT AND ALEC AND RAPHAEL!!!!!!! LIKE WHAT???? i deserved to see madzie dancing with magnus can you imagine 🥺🥺🥺
look even if magnus forgave lorenzo (which um no he shouldn't have, people are allowed to be mad at their abusers shut up with the forgive and forget bs) cat and alec and raphael wouldn't,,,,,, do ANY of them seem like the forgiving type? especially when it comes to magnus? NO they don't
ragnor is alive and should've been at the wedding tbh
also um i know the only reason behind the wedding being at the institute was spite (and also bc they had no time) but magnus deserved to have his first and only wedding in a place that was not a place of oppression for his people and for this very reason It Is Canon that they have vow renewals every decade at fancy places that they both love
ALSO luke wasn't at the fucking wedding WHY? (ik they gave a reason but i dont remember it and it was probably bullshit)
tldr: i KNOW they didn't have the time but they wasted what time they DID have on stupid fucking scenes
anyway um ik i just complained about a ton of things (and ykw im not going to apologise for it, i am right) but one thing i loved was malec's last scene it was just so 🥺😭💖 like the parallel....... it kills me every time

oh by the way, after what todd finally admitted, y’all ready to stop worshipping at his goddamn altar now and stop pretending he hasn’t always been the racist, homophobe that he obviously is? and y’all ready to stop defending underhill as an OC insert character and his entire storyline? like i said, he was just there for unnecessary malec dramatics and 3x06 was NEVER about just friendship. todd literally introduced another gay guy (a gay!jace, it was no coincidence he’s that he’s another blonde white) just cuz he was going to make alec cheat and let all the racist haters in this fandom have a field day with it. are y’all ready to finally stop clowning now? i called the clalec BS back in 2a before he copped to that while everyone was busy justifying/ excusing that, and i called this underhill BS while everyone was busy doing the same here. todd never supported malec or either of them as individuals. anything good we got was from other people on the team shutting him down and doing what’s right. he only valued alec for jalec and clalec purposes, and he only valued magnus for fake brownie points and to disrespect every chance he got. any malec fan who still defends/ loves todd or underhill is NOT a malec fan. you can’t hide anymore with todd just continually running his mouth. and that makes it even worse. he’s got no shame about it at all. can this fandom finally get a grip now and just call a spade a spade. todd’s a racist homophobe, and always has been. darren too, he’s just quieter about it.

I'm betting it all that this "Underhill doesn't like Magnus being there" bs is just going to end up being something like he fears that someone could use it against Alec especially with Jia watching his every move and the whole drama with the Clave that's going on, which is pretty relatable bc as much as I love Confident Gay Alec it can always happen that he oversteps some kind of boundary that Jia can use against him. And Alec having to step down as HOTI??? That would be catastrophic.
Well, we will see. But the amount of nonsense I have seen today already because of some BS a reviewer said or because of the synopses... like... do you ever just wonder if people are allergic to use their brains?
And also, when will someone explain to certain reviewers that getting people interested in the episode is not the same as causing a mass panic of nonsense you are saying. Honestly, I am so tired and I already fear the day when 3x16 happens. Or the rest of 3b in general. Please pray for me y’all.

Shadowhunters: “the final hunt”
Shadowhunters: “the final hunt” the final hunt”
So we’ve all heard by now that our beloved MALEC show has been cancelled by the financial backers and to make matters worse, season 3b is now pushed to spring of 2019 - so they can film a 2 hour “special” finale to wrap the series - and I, like most of us, have a few thoughts on this.... situation
1. Freeform obviously banked on it’s international/domestic contracts with Netflix and Hulu for this show - Netflix had all the promotional materials for S3 - the cool posters made out of new pictures (unlike freeforms marketing, which was just bad Photoshop of promo pics taken in s2)  - Hulu accidently released the premiere episode hours early and had to pull it... what I’m saying is, Freeform didn’t give two shits and now we’ve lost our show. (and by the way this isn't fair because in America it's not on Netflix at all)
2. The promotion that s3 did receive was done all wrong - suggesting that Underhill was a cause for cheating Alec when that story was a mere blimp on the radar of this seasons actual plot and btw, that wasn’t the point of their scenes at all - the addition of Charlie for shits and giggles - giving Lilith and Heidi and Ollie and Jordan ample screen time to fully explain their backstory/bullshit while cutting main leads out of entire episodes or arcs - I got off track here but they didn’t promote the fucking show so ya, the ratings slipped because no one knew it was fucking airing.
3. This means they are going to have to force stop Saia and make Sizzy happen but They best not pull some bullshit and break up Malec again only to end with a clace wedding. I’ve done that kind of TV before and I promise you, if I have to see Clace get married and Malec is still “dating” or whatever, I will be getting arrested for burning down a TV Studio. no BS
4. Why flat out cancel it with a 2 -hour “special” finale? There is nothing special about rushing through the end of a show that needs at least one more full season! and why push it all the way till this time next year? 3b is filmed!!!! anyone who is not emotionally invested (unlike myself and anyone reading this) will have already moved on! And now the “Halloween” episode is going to air in the spring?  ...never mind that’s so not the point right now
5. Yesterday one of our cats passed away and now you devil people took my damn show so FUCK THIS WEEK - I’m sleeping till Friday or possibly spring 2019

Thank you. Who thinks Alec will cheat? That seems extreme. They had one gift well discussion and fighting again in episode 3X06 but that is kinda crazy and some Glee writing. If you watched that show then you know what I’m talking about. Alec tells Magnus he loves him, 3 episodes into season 3 and he was practically dropping wedding vows. (Magnus does the same.) This is not a soap opera either. Can all the Jace stans also get out of Malec tag?! They are back on this Malec has no chemistry BS.
It’s people just becoming paranoid for no reason. Underhill has been nothing but respectful and considerate–just like a friend would be. It’s people fishing for unnecessary drama instead of focusing on how refreshing it is to see realistic conflict between a healthy couple and watching them work through it. They aren’t even thinking that Alec talking to Underhill is his way of working through it–it’s not related to cheating at all. He’s simply seeking counsel from someone he knows respects he and Magnus as a unit. And he’s a neutral 3rd party–he will be honest with him and give him unique insight. It’s just like Magnus seeking support from Clary. But, once again, people aren’t looking at how beautiful it is to see that, and instead find the negative.

SH Live Review, 3x06: A Window Into An Empty Room.
I’m back with another live review!
As you know, I try to avoid spoilers (minus promos), and haven’t read any of the books. I’ll pause to address any questions or concerns I have about the episode, and I’ll definitely scream over Alec at least twice. Feel free to watch along, or read after you’ve already seen the episode.
The character analysis will follow soon after (by popular demand) and then I’ll be free to answer all your wonderful questions and provide thought-provoking discourse.
Here we go!
Who is this?
Oh, Heidi’s crazy ass. Yawn.
Who the hell is that behind her???
Simon and Kyle training? I’m going to enjoy this.
Come on Kyle, you should’ve known that was going to happen. His magical mark is still effective.
And this is why I always leave at least one light on before I leave the house!
Heidi is so annoying jwjnvfinvs I just don’t like her.
Is it bad that I wanted her to make a move and be blasted across the room by the mark? No? Okay.
OHHH, THE MALEC SCENE.
SALTY ALEC IS MY FAVORITE ALEC.
Matt’s lips look incredible in this scene, fyi.
And his hair, too. Whew.
Yikes. Alec does have a point though.
I like the fact that he went to Izzy afterwards. The purest siblings.
Yes, Alec! Let them know! Clearly, I’ll discuss this later.
Maryse always looks so good, that must be where Izzy gets her fashion sense from.
Her runes are gone ):
Clary is so stressed. I’m still shook over Ithuriel’s death.
PAUSE. Lilith is creeping me the hell out. It’s started to look like she’s got some creepy obsession with Jace. Using him to help get her son back is one thing, but again, this is getting creepy. Well, creepier. Pressing play.
Maia coming through with the realness. To be fair, Simon didn’t mean to turn Heidi. If anything, Raphael is to blame.
I live for mother daughter scenes.
PAUSE. I feel for Maryse! Being a Shadowhunter was such an important piece of her lifestyle. To have something so prevalent be torn away has to be heartbreaking, even if she’d done something to “deserve” it (which I’m still calling BS on). Pressing play.
Strong, brave, and beautiful, but no longer a Shadowhunter. That hit me right in the feels.
A family outing? Yes please!
Ah, I love the growth. From disproving Izzy’s choice in men, to being happy someone has made her daughter smile. My heart is about to burst.
I don’t know why I almost forgot about Ollie.
Aw, Luke. Can we give him a girlfriend or something? I’m tired of seeing him alone all the time.
Alec doesn’t believe a word he’s saying LMAO.
Taking a walk??? BULLSHIT.
Jace is so fucking fake, I’m hollering.
THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN CLARY HUGGED HIM. LORD
Now Clary knows how Alec feels when he can sense something is wrong with Jace. Oh, how the tables have turned!
Sweetie, Raphael is gone.
Ugh, Heidi again? I’m bored.
Who cares? Obviously Simon, since he’s asking.
Simon is so sweet.
The way he ducked that kiss euifreivieg I need someone to make a gif.
Magnus and Clary? This is new. I dig it.
Magnus should be a detective!
Biscuit! Ah!
Magnus and his patience. Not everyone has that kind of time, honey!
Simon being concerned about Maia. Aw.
Jace looks so out of place.
Alec is the most adorable son.
“Why am I the last one to know about this?” ALEC PLEASE.
DAMN IT JACE.
Pediatrics! My friend is going into pediatric surgery!
Alec is like “jewelers? that’s the best she could do?”
From wincing at a sip, to ordering a double. Started from the bottom, now we’re here.
LUKE AND MARYSE. THE PAIRING I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED.
Luke really is the right person to go to for something like this. I forgot he was a Shadowhunter before becoming a wolf.
Ooooh, cue the cute memories.
THEY’RE SO CUTE? I’M BEAMING.
Clary checking up on Magnus. Cuteness overload.
I love how everyone just knows he and Alec will get through this.
Brother Zachariah is lowkey fine.
Helping out a warlock and a Shadowhunter without the rest of the brother’s knowing? I like him already.
OH SHIT. THIS JUST GOT INTERESTING.
Simon is the SWEETEST, holy shit.
Drunk Alec! Yes!
Underhill is me at every party. When I’m not the one that’s drunk, that is.
Heidi again? Can someone kill her already?
Izzy was ready to end it ALL.
She’s going to take all of this the wrong way and think Simon loves her or something, I’m calling it now.
Charlie, don’t do it!
PAUSE, PAUSE, FUCKING PAUSE. Alec in this leather jacket? With this hairstyle? Even the way he’s leaning is attractive? Jesus. Alright, pressing play.
My poor son.
Finally someone tells him not to be so hard on himself!
Alec refusing help even when he’s drunk like the subtle control freak he is.
Is no one noticing how strange Jace is acting right now? I mean, look at him!
For a second, I thought Simon had turned her in to the clave himself. I’m pleasantly surprised.
“You don’t lie to someone you love” But...sigh.
Oh shit, now Magnus is figuring it out.
Off topic, but isn’t that the same alley him and Alec reunited in? The lanterns look familiar.
I ALMOST DROPPED MY DRINK.
A fight scene! That’s what I’m talking about!
LMFAOOOO LUKE SAID FUCK THE MAGIC, I’M FIRING.
OH MY GOD.
NOW OLLIE IS GONE TOO.
WAIT, IT’S OVER? FUCK. I wanted more.
I have! I will definitely be watching this over again. For science reasons, of course. I must say, I expected a little more from that owl reveal scene, but maybe it was underwhelming because they were in shock. I’m assuming we’ll get more of a reaction from them in the next episode. If they don’t tell Alec in 3x07, I swear...
Anyway, thanks for reading! See you in a bit.

Anon honestly get a life. Considering your only hobby is stalking Jocelyn you’re not any good at it. It’s clear you’re slandering her name with zero facts. The last picture her sister posted had some massive houses in the background. Also her sister very likely has posted at her friends houses? Jocelyn’s other sister boards multiple horses at Beth Underhills stables, and Olympian, for those that don’t know her sisters horses are likely worth 6 figures EACH and to train there is like 15k a month for 2 horses. I know because I’m also an equestrian and can’t afford to go there. Her 16 yr old sister even wears a bunch of designer. Her family has MONEY get over it anon there is no conspiracy and she actually works for a living quit trying to bring her down. And shame on you pb for entertaining so much bs when you said Jocelyn was only ever nice to you
I post what I get, so get over it.

I'm still salty about what they did to Billy's character in season 4... "he betrayed his brothers because ANGER" GAH WHY
2nd message:
vincisomething ha dicho:  I mean how can you take the ship's mother and then be like "he's angry now and doesn't care about anyone anymore" ?? ??? He still sided with Flint for the sake of his brothers, but I guess nvm??
Hi there!
I know how you feel. It’s been almost a year since the show ended and I still can’t get over Billy Bones’ fate in season 4 nor understand the hate he gets in the fandom.
This morning I was talking with my bf about this message you sent me and how I haven’t been very active in the BS fandom lately. Every post of BS  in my dash is about Silverflint or Flinthamilton (which is great for the people who like their relationships or who are in love with those characters, but it’s not my case) and I got bored of having them in my dash. When I see a post about Billy I am skeptical, I mean, I am like Billy (as honorable as they come) so if I see that someone has said something bad about him, or are rude to him, I simply avoid them, I don’t like to have verbal fights (after all everyone has their right to give their opinions) so I just act like a ghost and let them be. It wasn’t until I saw the post  “how to fight a BS character”, or something like that, where they  suggest to push Billy again to the sea, when I had enough. I had enough of people joking about him, enough of people being rude to him and enough of people not understanding him, that’s why I made the comic post. I needed to show my support for  Billy, and I needed to let people know that he’s not the villain of the story. My bf has told me that if it wasn’t for all the character interpretation or explanations I gave to him about Billy during the 4th season, he would had seen him as the villain of the story too and not as the victim he is. He also understands his motivations and everything that he’s been through the show, and he doesn’t get why people can’t see it too. We both believe that Billy deserved better.
During the last season, and even though I was (and still I am) a  Billy and Flint shipper, I only wanted one thing: Flint and Billy to have a proper conversation about their situation and truest intentions. I didn’t care about Blint or Flint anymore, I just wanted someone to thank Billy for everything he had achived and I wished there was someone who could listen and respect Billy the way he deserved. But then again none did, not in the show and even less in the fandom (well there were some people who were defending Billy too, but then again we were very few).
In my opinion, as I told in the comments of my last post, I think the writers screw Billy up for the sake of Silver and Flint’s relationship. I don’t know if it’s bad wrtiting or not, I am not going that way. But I think that the writers wanted to make Silver the hero and free Flint and they needed  a close or familiar villain to do so, and there enters Billy.
On the contrary to Silver’s character, Billy is always in the wrong place at the wrong time, he's unlucky. He gets to know things too early or too late, or never at all. His thoughts and actions are misunderstood by his context. Even though he’s pure at heart and believes in the good side of people and cares for his crew, his dark side, his traumas, had made him very paranoid and straightfoward when there's something that he doesn't see as right or that is going on without his consent. I am the first to say that Billy is a cinammon roll and that he's just a puppy, but the truth is that Billy is a man who has gone through so much trauma and physichal pain that he can act too bitter and cold hearted when the tension explodes. The fact that we've never seen him that way before season 4 doesn't mean he's not a dark character. The reason why he hadn't explode earlier in the show is because he hadn't had the time to happen. I mean, he has been left for dead in season 1-2 after he discovered Miranda's letter. Then he disappears and we never get to know if Flint pushed him or not from the ship, he doesn't even care about it. He comes back changed.
He always does. @kelofthesea explains it very well in this post (please take a look at it and then continue):
Then again, when he comes back from his second time being tortured by the English Navy, he still sides by Flint, by his crew. He wants to protect all of them, even the Captain. What he wants in season 3, and Silver also does, is to get Flint aside of the power, they don't like what James "suicidal mode" Flint is making to the crew after Miranda's death. He believes that Silver, for the sake of the crew, wants the same as he, that's why he creates the legend of Long John Silver. He stays in Nassau for the sake of the resistence. Vane dies, but it wasn't Billy's fault. Vane wanted to die and he tells Billy not to rescue him. Vane valued and respected Billy as a pirate like no one did, and he knew Billy would understand his will. So we can't blame Billy for Vane's death, that's for sure.
When season 4 starts,  Flint and Silver are already friends, and Billy doesn't have a clue about it. Flint has told his story with Thomas to Silver (and Billy is still clueless, and it's funny becauise Thomas is the reason why Flint fights for) and, as we end up seeing at the end of the show, he has shared some fighting strategies with Silver too (while Billy was maintaining the plan in Nassau). In those scenes Flint asks Silver about his past. Silver tells him that it's not important, maybe because the trauma doesn't allow him to speak about it. But Flint realises about one important thing when Silver tells him that he was born in Whitechapel: "I remember when you first told me, it sounded like an invention. About one story that bled into others I’d heard told elsewhere to the crew. I didn’t think much of it at the time. I suppose I assumed that if you ever became somebody worth knowing, I’d learn the truth of it eventually. Only in this moment, I’m realizing that never happened. And what is of some concern to me is that despite how invested we each are in the future of the other you just told me that story again". Flint wants to know the truth about Silver, his truest backstory, he has entrusted his. He knows that one story was just a ticket for Silver to survive in the crew, Flint might thought that after the traumas Silver has gone through in the Walrus (loosing his leg, witnessing Muldon's death...) and most importantly his frienship with him, Silver would have told him a more intimate and truer backstory. But he doesn't. Why? because he's a liar. He's always been. I am not sayig that Silver's relationship with Flint is fake. Just saying that I've never trusted Silver cause he uses the stories (his or anyones) for his own benefits, and even if the trauma of his past doesn't let him talk, we never ever get to know were he comes from (or any kind of anger caused by that trauma).
Billy case is similiar but different. He never gets to talk about his past, we learn about his childhood when Flint tells Abigail about it. Flint knows the truth, knows how the life of Billy changed when he was just a kid. He witnessed how Billy changed again when he killed his first man and he realised he couldn't go back home to his parents because he became a murder. Trauma changes people, and Billy has change from trauma to trauma. We have witness it. He doesn't talk about what they did to him, or complains about it, he acts as if nothing had changed in him. But the truth is everything has change, and then he gives that powerfull speech to Dufresne about the tortures effetcs. He's showing his backstory without showing us what really he went through.
In season 4 Billy goes from one misunderstanding to another. First one when Flint's ship is attacked and Silver falls to the sea. Flint inmidietly blames Billy. But then again it wasn't Billy's fault. He gave the alarm and sent Featherstone to tell them. Then we learn that Max was behind it all the time, was she ever condemned by it? No. When they are at Miranda's house, Billy is having enough of mainsplaining from Flint and he faces him telling him that Flint is not the one in command in Nassau. Billy is the responsible of the resistance and he has fight and bleed along the men, not him. And he's right. He's also fucked up because of the disappearance of Silver, cause he was his friend too, so he continues to act according to the plan, get Flint out of the war. But he doesn't count with Madi, so now he has Madi as Flint's ally so there's not much he can do to continue with his plan other disobeying Flint's commands.
What happened in Underhill was Billy's fault, ok. But he was done with the situation of having everyone against him, having Flint telling him what to do. As I understand it wasn't a racist attack to the slaves. Billy knows what it feels like to be treaten like a slave. He was kidnapped when he was a teen, so he knows how this people must feel, being parted from their family, just like him. In my opinion he wanted in one hand to continue with the plan, not hearing Flint's advice (though this time Flint was right) and in the other hand he wanted to rebeal to Flint, just to show him that he wasn't under his control anymore. I understand his acts and I support him, why not?
When he gets the crew killed (I can't remember very well the plot cause I'm still unable to rewatch season 4, so tell me if I am wrong please) in the first episodes of the season, everyone started to hate him, cancelling him and stuff like that. And I was like, why are they condemning Billy now and not other charaters who did similar things before? Didn't Flint killed Gates because he was revealing againts him after Billy's death? Didn't Flint killed two crew members when they all were going through a rough time in the ship when they were adrift? Didn't Silver planned to steal and played Flint with the Urca's gold (and someone who was working in his plan got killed in the way)? Didn't Anne Bony killed Longan and then Charlott (a pure and inocent gilr who created Jack's flag image) in the burdel? Why is it so difficult to forgive Billy? He was the leader of the resistence and did what he had to do, they were collateral damage, and he is responsible of that, yeah, but he is not the only one who has taken bad decisions in the show, but it seems like he's the only one who people can't forgive, and that's something that I can't understand.
Then, when Flint is in the fort and they are about to "give" Eleanor the treasure, Billy stands and tries to get Flint alive and the treasure back, but what he doesn't know is that Silver is playing him, bringing him to a rat trap. And it's funny cause that's what at the end Silver ends up doing: setting Flint free (letting him become James McGraw again). At least that's my opinion. Billy didn't want to kill Flint, he wanted to restrain him, cancel him. But then again, I guess Billy's next moves made him untrusted again when he goes to Rogers and claims to be Long John Silver himself.
But what did people expect Billy to do when he has been tortured for the third time in his life by his crew and his friend? How would you feel if you had a plan with your best friend (or co-worker friend) and you both wanted to get your crazy boss out of your way, but then you realized that during the time you were bussy creating and maintaining the plan they both become close friends and then they blame you for everything, never revealing you the truth? How do you think Billy would feel in that situation, being tortured for the third time (I repeat)? That moment was what made him change compleatly and made him go to Rogers. I was glad when he went to him and told him the whole truth. He is Long John Silver, he has being fighting and scaring Nassau with the resistance. He was the one behind that legend, and nobody thanked him anything the whole time. He screwed up creating that persona, yes, but it was necesary for the resistance. So yeah! I was glad about it, and at one point I thought that maybe Billy was planning to play Rogers for the sake of a plot twist, where we could find that Billy was good all along... but it didn't happend. What we got was, once again, an ally who was going to use and abuse Billy and who was not going to listen or respect him. So yeah, it's sad, very sad.
At the end, when he fights with Flint, I truly don't know what to say... it's painful for me to remember it, and even harder to get a conclusion. The only thing I know is that Billy is one of the greates characters I've seen. Too dark, and to too pure. When he gets up in the beach and realises that he's left alone in the island we can clearly see all the shit he has gone through.
For me it feels like both Billy and Silver are like the most hard working kid in class and the cheater one. When the hard working (who's backstory seems kind of dark) gets good marks and compleats every homework or task the teacher asks it's always fine. Everybody kind of envies and admires him cause he's never ever gave any problem before and they know what to expect from him. The cheater copies, tells jokes, is charismatic but everything he does is always wrong (we don't know for sure his backstory but we know it must be kind of bad). He sometimes blames others or makes up stories to get away with punishmients, he's unexpected. But what happens when the hardworking starts to rebeal and the cheater makes one right thing (hen the hardworker has had enough of dealing with his traumas, and the cheater who has suffered too, redeems himself or another)? That they all punish the hardworker for his behaviour, not expecting it from him, and prize the cheater for the only good thing he has done, that was also unexpected! That's not fair. They both need to be treated in a more equal way. Yeah, the good guy made a mistake, but pay close attention to that mistake and find the truth behind it, help him to get it from his chest. And yeah the cheater is great too, we can encourage him to be that way, but not forgeting all the things he has done before.
I don't know what kind of metaphore I came up with, but what I want to say is that I understad Billy and his actions, in fact I understand every BS characters decisions and acts too and I also support them. I think that what I really mean is that Billy has gone from being the mom of the Walrus to the reek of the Walrus because they wanted to prize Silver. I mean, I think that Silver is a very complicated and interesting character and I love his arch, but I still believe that he's a liar and I still can't believe the ending of the show, cause it's a story told by himself, and we all know that stories could be true or not, so I mantain my instincts. And about Billy, who knows, maybe he didn't end up that way... and season 4 never happend! ;)
Thank you so much for the ask. It's been a long while since I wrote something about Billy and his character arch in season 4! As I told before I haven't rewatched the 4th season, so maybe I am wrong in somethings, forgive me for that in advance an let me know if so. I don't know if I answered your question, but it all came to me as I was writing it (I spent the whole afternoon in this). Thank you again!

The only characters I can remember dying off screen on Black Sails are Underhill & his family. Literally every other named character dies onscreen or their dead body is shown onscreen after the fact.
Seems to me that the one major theme of BS is that If You Don’t See a Dead Body, The Body Isn’t Dead.

Black Sails 4.06 Notes
I think I died during that episode. Black Sails seems determined to keep one-upping itself over the course of it’s last season in just how far they can push the characters into tragedy. Remember when Randall was spitting in Muldoon’s bowl, or when John’s ‘cooking’ gave everyone the shits... Or when Captain Naft was arguing with Mr. Fraiser over the details of two paintings...  Ahh good times.
I will say though that if 4.06 has an overarching theme it’s about everyone having to live with the choices that they have made.
“You chose. Live with it.”
Billy is answering for the suffering he caused the slaves through finishing the raid on the Underhill estate, Silver is living with the consequences of choosing Flint and Madi, Max is having to live with betraying Jack and Anne, Eleanor with her own choices, Rogers (still living unfortunately) with letting the Spanish indiscriminately destroy Nassau etc.
Eleanor’s plan might have worked if she hadn’t been married to bloodthirsty psychopath of the century. I don’t know if i’m angry at Eleanor for being so deluded about Rogers despite evidence pointing towards the contrary or just overwhelmed by how tragic the whole thing is. Flint’s the one who leads Eleanor and Madi to Miranda’s house, a previous sanctuary. The house and all its contents that Charles had claimed was so fragile. It used to be bright, warm and welcoming but now the interior is quite dark.
“One can be happy that way can’t they? A life of isolation and uncertainty as long as it is lived with someone you love... And who loves you back.”
You could take this to mean so many different things, I wonder if Eleanor was planning to leave and raise her child somewhere away from everything, away from Rogers. Spoken in Miranda’s house as well it calls back to how for the longest time she and Flint only had each other to rely upon, only each other who knew the truth about everything that happened in London. For Madi it could have also meant giving up the war, running and hiding, that it would have been okay because John was enough for her.
HOLD THE PHONE FOR A SECOND. Didn’t Zethu say in an interview that Silver asking Madi if he was enough for her would be re-addressed? How can they do that if she’s dead? Arrhh I don’t know what to think. It seems so unlikely that she made it out, I don’t want to believe she’s dead but I don’t want to get my hopes up.
Unless Madi’s reply to Eleanor’s question, “it is”, was supposed to be the confirmation that if it came to it she would leave with Silver, and she’s not just referring to her and her mother living in the Maroon camp. Following this line with a tiny smile to herself, possibly taking a moment to imagine living somewhere peacefully with John. Which just makes everything just that tiny bit more tragic doesn’t it? *Excuse me while I go grab more tissues*.
I love that Jack still manages to throw a tiny element of humour into the mix, telling everybody to leave because there’s a Spanish invasion in such a nonchalant way. Jack chooses to wait and see if any of their allies survive instead of running straight away. For all his flaws, Jack does have his occasional moments of unselfish-ness.
And now to broach the uh... the scene. You know the one I mean. That did upset me. It was unforgivably brutal in the way the soldier relentlessly attacked Eleanor. The way it was framed though... The fight is two against one, he’s already been shot/stabbed by the British guards, Eleanor manages to shoot him again but two of our main female characters still manage to be killed off in one fell swoop. That is if Madi is dead, there’s a tiny chance Madi did escape but I doubt she would have left Eleanor. I get why people are angered by this, I am angry too, especially for Madi whose end seems to be so senseless. I thought maybe Eleanor would use the last of her strength to save Madi... but she couldn’t.
Eleanor survived one Spanish raid on Nassau, but she does not survive the second. A place she gave so much up for, a place that she refused to give up on, it’s tragically poetic almost how she dies in the sand that would never love her back. Flint’s lie is a final mercy to her.
My faith in the writers though isn’t totally destroyed. They have a track record of treating everyone brutally yes, but they’ve never made a habit off killing off main characters just for the sake of shock factor - these things usually come with consequences. I wonder if Mrs. Hudson will tell Rogers that Eleanor was pregnant.
For someone with no experience of war or fighting, John seems to be handling the battle pretty well. Oh God Flint’s face when John asks where Madi is. These two are killing me in this scene. In this moment... It’s like everything is over for John, what’s the point in fighting anymore? BS is laying the tragedy on thick. I wonder how Flint managed to convince John to leave with him rather than just stay at the estate.
Jack adding “It will take some time before we fully know all we have lost today” is another one of those lines that carries so many different meanings for everyone.
FUCK YOU ROGERS. JUST... FUCK YOU. YOU ARE A MONSTER. This whole thing is actually sort of reminding me of something Abigail wrote when she was onboard the Walrus:
“What happens if that man decides the theater no longer serves his purposes and he lets the monsters loose?” Which is essentially what Rogers has done, he’s been playing a part, others have commented on the idea of Rogers putting on a sort of stage production during his time on the show, and it seems it’s come to the point of screwing the facade and just letting the ‘monsters’ in to indiscriminately burn it all down. Great plan Rogers, great plan *sarcasm*.
Stop it Luke Arnold. Stop it. This scene with Flint and Silver is gorgeous. The way Flint says ‘I’m sorry’ the same way Silver has done about the deaths of Thomas and Miranda - completely honest and open. The way Flint so carefully chooses his words before gently speaking. The lingering shoulder touch that communicates what a thousand words cannot. It speaks volumes about how close the two have gotten, and how they’re probably going to be tied up in this until the bitter end (their bitter end I suppose I should say).
“It’s not your fault.”
I honestly can’t tell who Silver is trying to convince here. It’s just as likely that he’s trying to convince himself that it isn’t Flint’s fault that Madi is dead (we think) as he is Flint. One other way I’m starting to look at it though is that Silver is in fact addressing himself, trying to force himself to believe that despite the warnings he received, it isn’t his fault.
Billy’s words from earlier must be coming back to haunt him: “live with it.” Billy did warn him about Flint being a risk to Madi, and it’s not difficult to believe that John is now going over and over that warning in his head, conflicted over who is the one at fault here.
What was that line I love way back in season 1 about making guilt go away? This is just a baseless speculation, but we might be getting a glimpse into one of Silver’s long-used coping methods here. Again I am insatiably curious to find out what happened to Silver prior to season 1.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems as if in the last scene in the Maroon camp, there’s something about the Queen’s expression that suggests she has hardened herself to the idea that Madi might not survive. She is an experienced leader, her duty is to her people, and she does not ask where Madi is. Maybe she knows. Or maybe this is just going to be one of those times BS skips over what might have been a significant moment. Maybe they know we’ve had enough tragedy.
I also love the way the episode ends on the look exchanged between Flint and Silver at the news of the revolution being underway. After all they’ve been through, when every part of Silver wants it to be over, they need to keep fighting. This war he’s been swept up in shows no signs of stopping, and I have a bad feeling that Silver is going to grow to resent Flint over it.
Extra thoughts:
- Wait so where’s Billy gonna go? He doesn’t stay with the pirates, he must escape the estate, so I guess he’s just going to find somewhere to run and hide?
- So what does Max plan on doing? Obviously she’s going to tell Eleanor’s family what happened and then use their influence and standing to what, see Rogers arrested? Driven out of Nassau? This would be probably as close to a victory as they’re going to get. I don’t appreciate her shouting at Jack about it though, at least he gives as good as he gets xD
- Ah so Madi’s mother never let the cache leave the island. So it’s not just currently chilling in the middle of the ocean. How would they have even known where to dig it up though?
- Thank you for about 3 minutes of Anne. More next time please.

YES, MORGAN & UNDERHILL are teaming up again to fleece the county.
This is not news to most of us, but Morgan has gotten much more bold with his latest campaign to discredit the BOCC for the extra fraction of the budget that he is not getting. The most recent confabulation is that he will have to cut SRO’s out of schools, end funeral escorts and cut courthouse security. This is moronic for many reasons but the best reasons are that a.) SRO’s are funded 50% by the school board. Pulling them out means Morgan will have to make up that 50% of SRO salaries normally paid by the school board. Thus no money is saved, but expended.  b.) court security is paid for entirely by Pam Childers. If that is pulled, Morgan would be on the hook for those officers entire benefits and pay.
The funeral escort situation is there to play on Southern civility which isn’t affected by the school and the courtroom scare. It is truly the only service in dire straits.
This is where UnderLING steps in. Morgan is making such a stink about not negotiating and has started a propaganda campaign, disclosing commissioners email addresses and direct phone lines. His call to action hasn’t turned out the way planned but Underhill is sending out emails to ECSO and the school board that clarifies his want to give in to Morgan’s demands.
This email fails to address the fact that according to Fla Statute, SRO’s can be funded through the controversial LET Fund.
Tumblr media
While Morgan and Underhill conspire to keep anyone from looking at Morgan’s budget closely,  I suggest that the people start a real “ask the sheriff” by calling him & emailing him to ask why he is floating these BS scare tactics about schools when it is to his fiscal detriment that they are removed…a bigger money problem.  Or contact your BOCC chairman, UnderLING, and ask why he is trying SO HARD to cover the gap to keep the Sheriff happy.  Who cares what makes Morgan happy?  It won’t fix the problems in the ECSO.
Sheriff Morgan’s contact info: 850-341-7553; [email protected]
Doug Underhill’s contact info: 850-281-1981; [email protected]
Why aren’t people more pissed off that Morgan created not-so-safe neighborhood and THEN threatens to pull SRO’s out of schools? Isn’t that adding insult to injury? Aside from the money,  he made the neighborhoods more dangerous by running off deputies left and right.
THIS ISSUE IS ABOUT MORGAN MISMANAGING THE MONEY HE HAS ALREADY….NOT HOW MUCH THE DEPUTIES SHOULD GET PAID. THEY ARE THE VICTIMS OF HIS POOR MANAGEMENT. ALSO, MORGAN CANNOT AFFORD TO PULL SRO’S OUT OF SCHOOLS OR THE COURTHOUSE.  PLEASE CALL HIS BLUFF AND TELL HIM WHAT A LIAR HE IS AND TELL UNDERLING THAT HE IS NOT DOING HIS JOB BY GIVING IN TO MORGAN’S MONEY GRAB, SCARE TACTICS OR HARASSMENT OF THE COMMISSIONERS.
NEXT TIME YOU SEE MORGAN THREATEN TO CUT SOMETHING OR JUSTIFY HIS SPENDING, REMEMBER THESE POSTERS.
