MY 2016 HAUL
So, I collect baseball cards. Graded baseball cards. I started a few years ago and I LIKE IT VERY MUCH. So here’s a post with all the stuff I got in 2016 because I’m bored and want to share.
1.) 1982 Donruss - Cal Ripken Jr. - PSA 10
Boom! Wow! So nice! One of the 3 cards that have avoided me because the price is too high (the other 2 being Griffey & Henderson) Been looking to buy this one since I started collecting 4½ years ago. I nabbed it in early January so a really cool way to start the year.
2.) 1981 Donruss - Tim Raines - PSA 10
About 2 years ago I bought a PSA 9. That’s not good enough for me though because I’m nuts. So I got a PSA 10. Look at his afro. It’s so big his hat can barely fit on his head. This one rules. I kind of want his Topps Traded one also...but he’s getting in the Hall so the price is only gonna get higher.
3.) 2003 Just Rookies Felix Hernandez BGS 9 AUTO 10 (87/100 Gold)
The King has had it rough the last 2 years, but he’ll be OK I swear!!! I think I technically got this one in 2015 but I only graded it for 2016 so it gets on the list.
4.) 2003 Just Rookies - Miguel Cabrera BGS 9.5 AUTO 10 (73/100 Gold)
Hey this Miggy Guy, he’s kind of good right? Got this and Felix together in a deal - but again, wasn’t graded until 2016.
5.) 2010 Grandstand - Manny Machado BGS 9.5
Not one of his pricey ones but I’m fairly sure it was his first one. Machado is great, and I hope like Mussina he waltzes over to NY once his O’s contract is up.
6.) 2013 Donruss / Panini - Kyle Schwarber (Auto 1/50)
When Schwarber went down with a season ending injury like 2 weeks after I bought this card I decided I wasn’t going to get it graded. HOWEVER he ended up being back just in time for the World Series and hitting .412, so that’s kind of great. I’ll probably get it graded this year, though i’m a tad worried about those corners and that auto going off the edge. It’s #1 of 50 though! Neat!
7.) 2010 JUCO World Series - Bryce Harper BGS ?.? (READ ON!!! WOW)
This is the big one. An alternate to his overproduced JUCO card, where only 2 sheets of 24 were made, and one was destroyed.
A true impulse buy. Discussed it with a dealer over an entire weekend. Made the decision not to buy it, but then with 20 minutes left in the show I sped on over and made the purchase. At the time, only one 9.5 of this card existed.
I got it graded. It came back:
Make that 2.
8.) 2012 Leaf Valiant Draft - Carlos Correa BGS 9.5 AUTO 10 (Orange 25/99)
Correa is probably going to be a star. Not much else to say. Another young great player. This was really the year I put money into some prospects.
9.) 1976 Topps Traded - Willie Randolph PSA 10
A card that has been on the watchlist for well over a year, never getting a hit until July. I find Willie to be one of the more underappreciated Yankees. I legitimately did not even know a 10 existed until it popped up, so I poured a giant bid on it and was lucky enough to win it. Turns out, only 10 exist. Really glad to own this one, and not the crappy shared rookie.
10.) 1959 JCM - Sadaharu Oh
I was lucky enough to get to attend the National Sports Collectors Convention since it was in Atlantic City. It took 6 hours of walking around just to see everything and apparently this was a small one??? Insane. I ended up finding ONE table with old Sadaharu Oh rookies and it was like “holy shit why did I not think of getting one of those”. No idea if I’ll ever get this graded, but it’s extremely cool to have.
11.) 1997 Bowman’s Best - Roy Halladay PSA 10
Cheap purchase of a really good pitcher. Not much else to say here. Sorry Roy!
12.) 2000 Multi-Ad Peoria Chiefs - Albert Pujols (JSA Authenticated)
Another big get this year. Albert Pujols is among the greatest of all time. Thinking of getting this graded next week. I’m a bit worried about how the edges, but if this grades well, it would shoot up to being the biggest prize in my collection.
13.) 2011 Leaf: Valiant Draft - Jose Fernandez BGS 9.5 AUTO 10
About a week or two after Jose Fernandez tragically died. :( Bought with the Pujols card. Had wanted one since he came up. Glad I eventually got one.
14.) 1991 Topps Traded TIFFANY - Jason Giambi PSA 10
Giambi fuckin rules. Also LOL 3B. No other comments.
15.) 2013 BBM Rookie PREMIUM - Shohei Otani
Shohei Ohtani is great. MLB is garbage for having a system where he can’t just show up now without taking on a shit salary.
16.) 2004 Bowman: Stars of the Future - Joey Votto PSA 10
Votto is a star. Even in a year like this one where he’s garbage for the first half he comes back and bats .326/.434/.550 on the year. I got this one for way cheaper than I should have because bidders were sleeping. My last baseball card purchase of the year - super happy to have gotten it.
Anyway, that’s all of them! Boom.
